if you never jumped over a bunch of cars in GTA2 going in circles to make sure you never landed, being amused over the fact that your character is breaking the laws of physics by flying, you dont know shit about video games

Can jump over firetruck, cant jump over the fence
nigga, 95% of this board hasn't played anything before GTA3.
Also, that squealing tire sound when you handbrake in GTA2 is permanently seared into my brain.
>you will never take turns with your friends entering a bunch of cheats then getting to the highest wanted level untill you die before switching over ever again
this game taught me to hold homicidal thoughts towards groups of elvis impersonators.
>you will never feel the joy of mashing the dedicated fart/burp button

the very video i took the screenshot from
i always abused the floating over cars shit to get onto buildings by going off a ramp and then jumping out midair, best place to do this is the prison in the second district.
>tfw this is one of the few games my dad got really really into
I miss watching him play games where he was actually better than me at them.
I did in fact do this but i still dont know shit about video games.
did literally ANYONE play the missions in this game? all we ever did was run around shooting people and steal cars
Didn't you have to do the missions if you wanted to unlock the other maps?
you had to do the missions to get to next cities man.
didnt everyone just use the cheats
I played more GTA 1.
never found cheats to be fun. other than the model replacer cheat in later 3d gtas and the low gravity cheat.
suck my rocket
>he didn't jump through the underground railroads
DAAAAAAAAAAMNATION
I usually don't ever cheat at games but I had no problem cheating with these games
now THIS is gaming
Same. Thats all GTA was.
>he didn't memorize the CD key
I am the ONLY person in this thread who actually has GTA 2 installed on their PC right now.
GOURANGA
I wasn't even born when it came out, weird that I'm sharing a board with people who were playing it before I even existed
>banjo&kazooieconversation.mp5
I was 23yo when GTA 2 came out, i'm old enough to be your dad
Post a pic of your mum
post a pic of your lawnmower
Shouldnt you be window shopping for coffins. Your pretty much dead lmao
Jokes on you, I reached my 40's, will you?
>Can jump over firetruck
Can't do that in GTA1. You can only crawl under tall vehicles.
NO ITS 2019 AND HAVING FUN WITH BUGS AND GLITCHES IS FORBIDDEN HELLO?
Dreamcast version of gta2 was pretty great.
It even had a working monorail and day night cycle iirc.
ASSOLE
Is that on some DRM shit or something? Doesn't look like a directory or a Windows start menu shortcut
of course I did that and things like that in general, in gothic I would literally spend hours climbing over areas I shouldn't be in and figuring out how to break every game I played in general
might explain why I'm a failure irl, though I don't feel like I'm mentally autistic
How was swat3
>Elvis Presley impersonators
>uh huh-huh
I remember the ps1 version was isometric
>drive a car off a 3m tall ledge
>instantly explodes
wtf were they thinking with the physics in GTA1?
Did you enjoy deus ex?
No.
I didnt grow up in the dark ages so yeah lmao
Fuck, I remember doing that.
of course
Tfw you will never fly by failing to fall to the earth
>How was swat3
I remember playing the hell out of the demo but never bought the full game, maybe because I already had Clancys Rainbow 6, looking forward to Ready Or Not though
Let's suppose hypothetically that an acquaintance of mine in real life is a TOTAL FILTHY FUCKIN CASUAL that wants savestates.
Is there a way to get savestates working in GTA 1 and 2, on a version of the game isn't complete watered down cut out low limit garbage?
Have you played prey2017?
why isn't there a car crusher in the new games? it was one of my favorite things in gta2.
I'm fairly sure GTA1 on PS1 is identical to the PC version so you can get your savestates there.
Well I'm wrong but there was a version that wasn't completely 2D
of course
Nice. I'm going in.
so this board doesn't know that RESPECT IS EVERYTHING ?
>Ready Or Not though
Is it still coming out?
I bought swat3 and it had only 12 missions but came with a Tshirt
I prefer the crane from GTA1. You could literally finish the entire game just by stealing and selling expensive cars. In GTA2 you only get powerups from crushers.
Its a well made game desu
It's weird how the opening FMV for GTA 2 looks more like it's for GTA III than for 2.
>Is it still coming out?
As far as I know, the last update on their twitter was in march
It is underrated with very strong art direction and gameplay approach variety, two things I enjoy a lot.
WOO
YIPPEE
Arkane are ok though, any idea what other immersive sims are is development?
>played this during my comp sci class in high school
Good times.
>As far as I know, the last update on their twitter was in march
Actualy this month I looked at pinned tweet
youtu.be
man i wish they brought that guy back. was GTA 2 supposed to be a television show or something?
In development? No idea. Last immersive sim I have enjoyed was consortium.
There's a good amount of them. Arx fatalis, dark messiah, system shock, thief etc
you didn't think you are the last boomer in here, did you?
who here sided with the loonies
peek gaming right here
>the mission to kidnap people and shuttle them to a meat packing factory to be turned into food
OP here. i just wanted to thank you all for spending some time talking about GTA2 with me. I thought for sure the thread would die after a response or two due to all the children only caring about reddit shit.
GTA 1&2 (less so London) had some genuinely fucked up missions. It was before they started trying to make the protagonists have personalities and anti-heroes.
I sometimes wish I lived in vice city.
>consortium
Thanks friend
Its not just zoomers here, I'm glad
if you really really want to talk about it, just go to /vr/ desu
that board is too new and scary
And that friend's name?
Albert Einstein, right?
just saying. they talk about videogames and threads last for a week instead of an hour.
I honestly thought you were my ex for a second with those questions. Way too fucking real.
If it's you, you made the biggest mistake of your life. Until you actually realize that and actually make steps to convey that, and you never will, which I don't expect, then I want nothing to do with you.
I miss when GTA games had gameplay
what the fuck
Don't date anyone who browses this place.
Yeah, you start by telling your friend he's overdue to dilate.
whats this? steam?
Don't browse this place if you can't be bothered to be anonymous.
Who gives a shit. I admit it startled me for a second but whatever. It doesn't really change anything, anonymous or not.
nigga you want to see the next district don't you
Based kivlov poster
If you never ran in reverse after getting those groups or cops aggro, and fired a rocket launcher to watch them fly toward the screen, you don't even know shit about this game by itself.
But you had to make a few missions to get the multiplier up or you would die of age
I just fired up my age-old installation of GTA1 and discovered edited textures, custom cars made by myself and real-world car names
Your thoughts on taxi drivers, sir?
>actually kept track of real-world car names like a normie
Why are you in this shithole exactly?
TAXI DRIVERS
I loved parking next to the bridge and watching the cops fly past me straight into the water.
>illuminati meme
fuck off redditor
The reddit and twitch faggots infest other threads, since none of them can even tell what the game is in the pic, this thread is extremely safe.
>finding a group of Hare Krishnas in GTA1 and leading them all onto the train tracks to be elctrocuted
>He doesn't know life is fragile yet.
Look man, just appreciate it and don't be such a silly goose. Plenty of people never see 30
NYPD
LAPD
LIPS 106
Still a little mad. Also too scared to listen to that parody country (?) song I used to love in case time has rendered it trash.
The only reason why literally everything in GTA has an unfunny pun name as opposed to the real name of its real-world counterpart is legal reasons. If games were allowed to depict the real world in their fiction just like everything else is, games wouldn't need to have fake brands all over the place.
Also because GTA1 is top-down instead of 3d, all of the cars are actually accurate depictions of their real world counterparts as opposed to slightly changed versions for legal reasons. Only the names are different, for legal reasons. It's not an artistic decision.
now this i can get into
I miss in older gta game i would ust run around and raise chaos for hours without doing any of missions. In gta 5 after completing the mission i don't even want to play game anymore. Multiplayer somehow fixes but grindy gameplay and loading screens get annoying. I haven't played the cutsom multiplayer in 5th but samp and vcrp was tons of fun.
I still remember it to this day, as I remember Radio Gaga (?) which made pedestrians violent until you shut the transmitter down.
If you had a memory card for ps1 you never beat any game in your life
EAT HEARTY, COMRADE
I remember one where you got a flamethrower mounted on top of a firetruck.
Yooooo! How about telephone sound? That shit scared me when I was a kid
Ok fellas I really want to play this game but for some reason isnt on steam. Is there a place to download/buy it officialy? Also, I remember that the games top down controls are a bit clunky with a keyboard. Does it have controller support or is there a gta2 mod that allows controller support?
its the windows start menu you fucking zoomers
Rockstar provides free download of GTA1 and 2 on their website.
I thought so at first but the cancerous color scheme that nobody in their right mind would apply to the Windows theme made me question that hypothesis.
>cancerous colour scheme
what?
TAXI DRIVERS MUST DIE!
Great found it thanks :D! Any info about the controller support?
Nobody uses Windows in white on black. This is what it normally looks like.
I've been using dark themes for years because it protects my eyeballs from pure white
Oh. Ok then.
Hence shopping for dirt pillows, ya dead man walking
dude they took those down a long time ago
Thanks for the memories man
Fuck. Are they mirrored elsewhere then? Why did Rockstar remove them in the first place?
>ywn go it your buddy's house when you were in high school and take turns playing GTA for hours on his PS1, replacing the game CD with a Sublime CD and having it randomly play tracks from it instead of the radio in game
I want to go back, life sucks now
Fuckin kek
>replacing the game CD with a Sublime CD and having it randomly play tracks from it instead of the radio in game
was that an actual function?
For me it was playing the Liberty City 90-minute restricted demo with a friend and switching players when the time runs out
nope I been lookin for a legit copy too, looks like we will just have to pirate it or suck someone off for a steam key
>ywn go it your buddy's house when you were in high school and play GTA 1 on his PC for hours uninterrupted while he talks to his fat, ugly girlfriend on the phone
thanks dustin
Both games are available on their site again, just checked.
That user is correct, only dark themes are acceptable
I found both GTA 1 and 2 off rockstar website after a quick Google guys.
gta.com.ua
what the shit I look like a retard. I been eyeballin that page for months great timing.
fake link but the games work so shout out to the based ukranians

>equip molotow or grenades
>jump onto a car
>mash the throw key like a mad retard and fly everywhere while cops chase you by foot
>get into a strange area downtown
>find a green blob
>turns out it's a freaking tank
>secure an undamaged FBI car during a chase
>spray N pay a random car
>proceed to roam the streets as an FBI agent pulling over random taxi drivers
Damn GTA 2 was the shit!
They should remake this game desu
ZAIBATSU
Is there a full version of GTA 2 anywhere? The ones I keep finding are missing a bunch of sounds, especially the radio stations.
GTA 2 is literally my favorite GTA. Can't even count the amount of hours I've spent playing it back when I had a PS1.
>>find a green blob
>>turns out it's a freaking tank
I still remember the squee of joy I made when I found a tank near the redneck base. I spent half an hour just smashing cars around the city.
Good times.
Tsunami fm!
>played this game a lot as a kid on the old ass PC
>main thing I knew about was the tank location in the first map
>mfw always go on a rampage killing everyone until I finally blew up
Amazing times were had, never played through the story since I didn't know how to read, only how to boot it up and find all the fun shit in the first map.
I love the three different areas. Which gangs were your favorite to side with? By area I like Yakuza, Rednecks, and the Russians. My favorite mission is the one where you take a bunch of dudes to a meat factory and turn them into hotdogs.
Best setting, best main menu music
youtu.be
Didn't any of you found the later two areas difficulty curve a bit harsh? I still didn't finished industrial area to this day because it really isn't fun and compared to previous two areas it looks ugly as shit.
A lot of PS1 games used redbook audio for the ingame music. It also meant you could play it in a regular CD player.
I liked the second area. Zaibatsu best gang.
youtube.com
Best radio station.
>Which gangs were your favorite to side with?
By area: Loonies, Scientists, Russians
>My favorite mission is the one where you take a bunch of dudes to a meat factory and turn them into hotdogs.
My favourite mission, too
>the moment when you get to observe the prisoners entering the meat grinder or die trying
Kino
HEALTH!

MACHINE GUN!
KIIILLLLLLLLLLLL FRRENZY
>Teriyaki-chan was voiced by Seiko Yoshida, voice actress just 13 years old at the time of the release of GTA 2.
That's cool, I had no idea.
Does anyone know what she's saying when she goes on her Japanese rants?
(At the start of Toys are Real's "Flymutha")
"This is me from Funami FM, somehow I'm here, Teriyaki-chan! Oh, it makes me feel sick, it's irritating, isn't it? This bad weather, bad traffic and bad crime! Stop fooling around, who do you think we are?! And you can't never tell if a Yakuza is friend or foe, really... Astonishing?! Johnny Zoo and Danny Zoo have both become car-criminals, this computer game is starting to become shitty... Is this really fun at all?!"
(Towards the end of Toys are Real's "Flymutha")
"So, I will play a new record now! It's such a pleasant day, really... it is quite hot though, now! Pull up the song next!"
(Just before Future Loop's "Garage Acid")
"Stop fooling around, who do you think we are?! Who knows whether a Yakuza gangster is a friend or a foe?! Good song next one!"
(At the start of Ido's "Ball Blaster")
"Ain't this really shitty?! Is it really any fun at all?! Yes!"
>tfw too dumb for missions and multipliers so I just drove a tank over cars until I had the millions needed for the next city
>SUCKY, FUCKY TERIYAKI
>TERIYAKI TASTES LIKE SAKE
What did they mean by this?
>Do this to complete first area
>Try doing it again
>Gang members now have molotov cocktails
Friendly reminder that if you can't find the PC version you can get a Dreamcast Emulator and a copy of the game.
holy shit exactly this. I still have the original copy somewhere
gta.com.ua
Rockstar's Ukraine site still has the downloads available.
Yeah. If the game was designed to fit the current level and other assets into RAM, this would let you take out the game disc and then put in a music CD, and now use that as the soundtrack. Obviously, you'd be prompted to reinsert the disc if the game needed to load data again ie. you switched to a new level. There were other uses for this, like Monster Rancher games was known for letting you use any CD for a seed to generate new monsters (or give you specific monsters for certain CDs).
They would probably fuck up the art style. It's edgy 90's interpretation of a futuristic dystopia where the cars look like they're from the 1930's. Criminal gangs are so powerful that they have their own research facilities and fusion power plants.
What timing. They just recently put up a Jesus saves billboard on the road I take to work and it made me think of this game.
PEICE OF SHIT
I had so much more fun with car bombs in GTA2 than any 3D GTA, I think because it was so much easier to get a bunch of cars to pile up and cause a chain reaction than later games. I can't remember using them in III or later games aside from when it was required by missions.
>mfw used to know where to find the hidden tanks on each map
If I recall correctly each map had two hidden tanks on the opposite sides of the map from each other.
Rockstar doesn't have a Ukraine site...
if you didn't mod the text file to replace starting car with a tank you dont know shit about video games
What I never realized until recently was how fucking terrible GTA2 on PS1 looked compared to the PC version I played. It's missing almost all of the vertex lighting on the environment, plus never zoomed out as much.
>that fucking intro
It was a different time.
Wait, Game Hunter still works?
I need to set it up again. I remeber having quite a lot of fun in multuplayer.
That is when I wasn't playimg against some hyper-competitive fuck who used combination of over9000 exploits to murder me before I even properly finished respawning
There was like 8 people in the lobby when i last used it a couple years ago
Me and my cousin always liked to run over those orange joggers and still remember the sound they make
Because PSX is a piece of shit.
There are three versions.
GTA2 for PSX, Dreamcast, and PC. From worst to best. PSX hardware was pretty weak so all of the game is in the day time. Dreamcast hardware was next gen, so it allowed for street lamps, light effects, and more stuff on screen.
PC version had both a day and night option that you can set before starting.
So basically there are a bunch of people who played GTA2 on PSX/Dreamcast who had two entirely different experiences due to the change in atmosphere/mood due to the limitations of hardware.
Nope
you needed a certain amount of money to get to the next level.
Missions gave a multiplier on the cash you recieved.
I had gotten to the point that I could get from city 1 to city 2, just using the two tanks you can find on the maps.
Still can do it too
Dreamcast port came late, so it's weird it's missing stuff over the PC release. PS1 release is likely a case of a shit port, since there's nothing about the game the PS1 couldn't handle with ease. It's 2d sprites everywhere with blocky environments, that's an easy 60fps for that hardware, and the lighting should have been kept in.
When you blow up so many vehicles your old pc used to lag to shit until it cleared. Or picking up max respect gang members and taking them to the enemy gang or making them fight the police for you
Back in the day when FPS drops in a game meant it ran in slow-motion.
