It's in Smash, that's why.
>not taking the opportunity to stab Jimmy Fallon in the throat with a pen.
Internet culture made it more easy for people to share things: People see the aesthetics and are like wow wee
I thought Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel were the same person all this time
Leftist game
these are exactly the kinds of people i expected play cloud and joker
It isnt, you are just getting exposed to the fans more because social media
3 reworked the entire franchise and was a big hit with the nerds
By the time 4 came out, tons of casuals were brought in
From the start, 5 was already mainstream.
That's just a logical progression.
Persona 3 and 4 were massively popular too, they just came out over a decade ago so you didn't see people talking about them on social media.
No they weren't. Where the fuck do you get such misinformed opinions from? Persona 3 was a niche spin off to a niche series that released on a completely dead console and was a sequel to games that had never been released outside of japan. Nobody cared when it was released. Even hardcore no life jrpg fans didn't like it that much, check its metacritic user score:

I'd guess persona 5 is about 50-100X more popular and its fucking annoying seeing you cunts say something so blatantly incorrect.
I started with 5 and, ironically, I ended up liking 3 the most. I can see why nerds liked it.
Some fucking "ninja"
everyone shilled for persona 5
Persona slowly grew in popularity thanks to re-releases (particularly persona 4 golden on a console with no good games), plus anime and other game spin offs, plus the growth of weeb culture becoming very mainstream, plus the death of console jrpgs in the ps3/xbox 360 era, plus the increased hype from being a console exclusive in this current era when exclusives are rare. But really its not so different from how other fandoms grow. Through snowballing over time. Persona 3 started the ball rolling and by the time persona 5 released its popularity had grown many times over.
>that fucking bald spot
Based and redpilled. It's literally just bullshit. Persona 4 was even worse.
Unironically reddit.
reddit these last years skyrocketed ironic weeb ''culture''
A game like this that appeals to all Yea Forumsirgin redditors needs, is going to have tons of attention.
it's the same that is happening to nu-fire emblem. Only out of touch denialfags think that game will flop. It surely will be shit but all these ironic weebs are going to love it.
>Ninja advertising Smash
What kind of shit timeline we live on?
Exactly. Shitkurai added a nobody into smash and suddenly whatever 5 is the best game ever.
And notice how P5 never got this much attention since joker's addition to smash.
>check its metacritic user score:
All the persona and SMT games were reviewbombed a few months ago. check the wayback machine, it was around an 8.5-8.7 before.
because western games are so shit this gen people needed to find something else to play
>he says while posting a .gif of the most reddit class in any FPS ever made
Normalfags weebs. The kind that call everyhing a waifu and have seen 3 dubbed anime on netflix
Jimmy Kimmel used to be funny, Jimmy Fallon has always been cringe.
because its Sakurai's favourite game
Am I the only faggot who preferred P2 to everything else?
I remember the day my brother asked Walmart for Persona 3 in its full Japanese title and they were like what the fuck is this kid on?
ironic weebs
But he's the face of current SMT. Sorry your pick didn't get in.

>ninja just spams forward smash
Whoa...so this is the power.... of the greatest gamer on earth...
>in its full Japanese title
Persona 3 isn't that weird of a title
because previous games were released on dead systems. I mean, P4 was released on fucking PS2 in 2008 and then on the fucking Vita of all places.
I'm glad the Persona series went mainstream.
that was really pathetic, should have made it at least 2 or 3 lives, making normies play smash could be funny but they just play badly and win quick it isnt engaging nor are they funny or try to be (i think)
You can thank P4 for that. P4 was the most normalfag friendly Persona game to date and a lot less off putting than 3. Thanks to two popular animes, 2 sucessful fighting game and a lot of word of mouth P5 was poised to break out into the mainstream for good and ill
it was released on vita when it was under a year old you know
Persona 4 was big with normies, but it was a PS2 game released in 2008 when people moved on from the console and the genre (kinda)
Persona 5 came out on a current gen console and when JRPG/Japanese games have made a big splash again, especially in 2017. You're a fucking moron if you can't see it beyond that.
Politics:For when you don't have anything substantial to say but have to say something
Again. Dead systems.
I honestly don't get these people who act like Persona has always been popular. Even when 3 and 4 were new and "popular" none of my friends who played video games knew what those games were aside from me.
Out of the modern Persona games, 3 has the best story, characters and atmosphere. If it had the updates added to the battle system in later games and real dungeons then it would be uncontested.
Why?
Not to mention the Evokers put a lot of people off and were a source of derision for the game, but it generated buzz, so when normalfag friendly P4 came along more normalfags were open to give it a try. Then those normalfags watched the anime and got their friends into it so by the time P5 was ready they had a whole slew of normalfags ready to shell out
Gaming itself is more mainstream now
>and was a sequel to games that had never been released outside of japan
The only Persona game that wasn't localized when P3 came out was P2IS. Persona 1 was localized a few months after it came out in Japan, although it was heavily butchered and P2EP was localized like half a year later after the Japanese version.
He means when it was Shin Megami Tensai:Persona 3, P5 and I think P4 dropped the SMT part
You can thank P4 for that. P4 was the most normalfag friendly Persona game to date and a lot less off putting than 3. Thanks to two popular animes, 2 sucessful fighting game and a lot of word of mouth P5 was poised to break out into the mainstream for good and ill
It's like how more people take part in HL3 never coming out jokes than have actually played any HL games.
Social media is good at getting people hype for shit they wouldn't be otherwise.
Yeah, they stopped adding SMT to the title when P4 Arena came out.
Absolutely not. Party members losing their autonomy would not fit the theme of learning to live with YOUR OWN choices. The only thing I would say to add is an ability to tell them not to use certain moves (Marin Karin).
Fuck off, the game's themes have nothing to do with the battle system. It's just retards trying to make up shitty excuses for such a bad decision. If they actually intended it to be that way then P3P wouldn't have given party control back.
>Monster Hunter World
>Sekiro
>DMC 5
>P5
>DQ 11
This is true look at how a bunch of the niche series all got HUGE in 2018/19
Because it didnt release on dead handhelds or consoles from the previous generation
PREQUELS ARE GAMES THAT TAKE PLACE CHRONOLOGICALLY BEFORE BUT WERE RELEASED AFTER. SEQUEL + "PRE" PREFIX WHICH MEANS BEFORE.
USE "PREVIOUS RELEASES" "PREVIOUS GAMES" "OLDER GAMES" YOU IDIOT.
>Best-selling game in the SMT franchise
>Uhhhhh no nobody actually cared about it according to me
Hahaha
>talk about video games with 20 year old zoomer at the job
>I mention persona
>''what the fuck is that? its probably bad if I don't know about it''
Persona is not mainstream.
P3 didnt even outsell P1 though
This, I know everyone on Yea Forums was born in the year 2010 but P4 was super popular for a JRPG back in the day.
>Party members losing their autonomy would not fit the theme of learning to live with YOUR OWN choices
That... wasn't a theme in Persona 3 though? The main theme in all of these games is very obviously always power of friendship and Atlus took a risk to force players literally rely on your party members to convey that.
You don't get too choose in Persona 3 anything outside of your Personas. In fact, only fucking choice you get is how you want to fucking die, actually knowing your destination regardless of your choices is the theme of Persona 3.
I didnt notice P4 being any more popular than 3 until P4G released
It came out at a time when gaming and anime other than Dragon Ball and Pokemon have gotten more popular.
but 3 and 4 do take place chronologically before 5, watching TV talks about Chie who's now a cop, Naoto the detective prince and Rise who's a full-on idol
Sorry you thought your character was relevant before the Smash reveal.
What's SMT?
Sóy Manlet Tiers
Yukiko and her inn is mentioned. Katsuya and Akihiko is mentioned when they say talk about a "handsome detective with red sunglasses, to a legendary gumshoe who took down a bear". Yukari is mentioned with her Pink Featherman and college life. And Adachi is also interviewed briefly
Weirdly the game never referenced Mitsuru and the Kirijo group though, I would've thought there would be SOME mention of either.
it's in smash BECAUSE it's more mainstream than its predecessors, smashfag. now take a shower.
Have soap
>2 million sales worldwide
>mainstream
Ironic weeb leftist zoomers latched onto it.
"more mainstream than its predecessors" =/= mainstream.
>multi-million sales
>not mainstream
>P3P wouldn't have given party control back
they obviously gave party control in P3P because its a time killer hand held game for jap commuters and the narrative direction is on the back seat compared to the dungeon crawling. it isnt an upgrade or "haha see?! they backpedalled on the party control decision" kinda thing.
Just selling a few millions worldwide would be considered a failure for any mainstream franchise.
3 was niche but I felt like 4 was huge.
why does Jimmy Fallon always act like he's only just holding himself together while talking to people?
4 had the same size following as 3 on release but the anime adaptation blew it up.
Because it has the best waifus
