Place your bets, what will sell better?
The Index, or the Quest?

Meme showdown

They're not even comparible headsets, they're for 2 different target audiences

Yeah, so?
What will sell better?

Probably the Quest because it targets a wider audience.

Valve can't even produce enough units for it to be a proper competition.
Quest will sell better because it targets a wider audience, has Facebook advertising, and is actually available outside of the US.

Quest is selling quite strongly.

No bets here because VR is a meme gimmick fad that is already: over.

Attached: ansanalien16.jpg (657x650, 141K)

Have any proof of that?
The index is selling out.

Got an Index on the way but you guys are high as fuck if you think it will outsell Quest

Attached: 6dpzg5lmza221.jpg (1024x641, 39K)

>:
Thanks daddy

Attached: spit trail.jpg (461x424, 98K)

I'm not saying Valve only produced 20 of them but Kikebook is making Rifts on a much much larger scale.

Valve is a dying company ever since they refused to make Half-Life 3. Zero consumer trust.

This won't age well

not him but does the amount matter?
we are weeks away from the index hitting the market and word of mouth will cause sales too skyrocket
okay the rift outsold the vive first time around mainly due to pricing, facebook took a hit to sell at those prices and HTC is greedy bastards

>the quest
nice meme.

Attached: JgV7RLT.png (1334x750, 1.64M)

>okay the rift outsold the vive first time around mainly due to pricing
The Rift S has an even bigger price advantage over the Index than the Rift over the Vive, I'm pretty sure. Plus that easy setup too.

Quest will sell better. Not because it's better but because it appeals more to mainstream audiences.
It's cheaper
It's portable
It doesn't require a PC
It doesn't require any set up
It's directly linked to facebook and the occulus ecosystem (a good thing to normies, even though it's a bad thing for people here)

So yeah, in terms of sales, Quest will blow Index out of the water.

you are not wrong however the rift S does not bring that much to the table compared to the index, muh knucles and all that
besides wont the rift S end up being viewed as the vive pro? a improved headset which is overly expensive and fucks early adapters in the ass

>wont the rift S end up being viewed as the vive pro? a improved headset which is overly expensive and fucks early adapters in the ass
What? No.
It's complained about because it's merely a side grade when everyone wanted an upgrade.
It's like $400 to the Indexs $1000, and is probably the single best staring point for PCVR atm.

>quest

Attached: 7sn3u02zqoo21.png (1887x943, 2.13M)

why do you think video games matter when it comes to vr? the only thing its used for is porn.

Attached: nod really.png (801x577, 7K)

okay call me a fanboy but buying into facebook crap is a dealbreaker
remember those threads around ´12 when it was said this would kill the market?

That only becomes remotely true after you've exhausted the currently existing content. Before that, all you want are games and, to a lesser degree, "experiences".

>after you've exhausted the currently existing content
so after 5 minutes?

The quest will hands down sell better. It's made for normies and console gamers who dont have high end graphics cards or $1k to spend on VR, plus I've seen a lot of people who are getting the index and the quest just for the fact its wireless to use when they arent at thier gayman PC.
(Also worldwide availability day one is a massive advantage over valve's very fucking limited release over time schedule)

Attached: image(7).jpg (396x349, 62K)

>buying into facebook crap is a dealbreaker
Facebook is shit, but not a deal breaker for most people.
Yea Forums is pretty far divorced from the general market.

At least 10.

When will the autistic vr community recognize they got memed out of a bundle of cash for a product that will not succeed for another few decades, if ever? If battery size even can get to the point where it can power a slick lite headset for hours, which barring a miracle probably wont happen in our life time, and if speeds get to the point where the graphics quality is actually good, if the price point gets to $200, if during all of this a must play game is designed, developed and popularized, and if it can fix the fact that a significant portion of users get motion sickness maybe it'll have the popularity and success of the PS vita.

Attached: 1555322766180.webm (1920x1080, 2.98M)

obviously the quest because theres a lot more poor fags that us rich folk

That and the Index is limited supply.

>NOOOOO YOU AREN'T HAVING FUN
>STOP UPGRADING YOU JUST HAVE BUYER'S REMORSE

Attached: 1553032513613.png (1280x538, 1.11M)

Hotaru makes my dick tingle.

That's right. You are having artificial fun, it's not real.

>That reaction webm
>Telling me I'm not enjoying it
Wow you are a faggot. Come over to mine and we can play VR games. And then I can smash your teeth in while I play beat saber and pretend it was an accident

The dark souls of gimmicks

Index sold out in like 30 minutes and has been reserved all through August, so there's definitely strong interest, but I'd expect Quest to sell more. Low-end and mid-range always move more units than high-end, Index is much more expensive and most people don't care about quality to any significant degree, so I'd expect Quest to sell more.

No, Rift S is a downgrade compared to the original Rift in pretty much every way except resolution (and supposedly better lenses).

It's an upgrade for me. 10fps less sucks but it's a good tradeoff for not needing all those damn sensors, the higher resolution and better optics.

Not index unless they sell them in physical/eshops around the world. Not just on steam.

Better resolution, no sensors/real setup, less god rays, less sde, apparently. Unless someone is really strapped for cash and has to buy a used Rift I don't really see any reason to not just get an S and be done with it.

No sensors mean no tracking for your hands once they arent in your view

quest is a piss of shit

It's also fussy about how much light is in your room and can't handle reflective surfaces.

Oculus Go sold that much? wtf?

Quest is gunna be a hit for sure if that's legit.

The quest because it's cheaper and probably the most my parents would be willing to spend on my pathetic 27yo neet virgin ass.

>not squirreling away NEETbux to buy something neat once in a while
Sorry for your lots.

is that the rhythm game? You paid well over $1000 to play a fucking rhythm game lolololol. jesus christ, who's more pathetic star citizen cultists or the vr dolts. i think star citizen has the better shot at success lmao

For a rhythm game tho?? I guess that's the POWER of vr technology rotflmao

About how much could I sell my vive for if I keep the base stations? I.e. selling just the headset and wands?

>dollarydoos

>Rift S/Quest
>sold out in less than 30 minutes, next batch ships out 3 days later than release date

>index
>sold out in 30 minutes
>next batch ships out 3 months later

either valve is a retard and didn't expect that many people to buy a crazily overpriced kit, or they're going the Nintendo route to create artificial scarcity.
I think rift S will win in terms of PC VR because no one wants to spend 1000$ on a headset and then wait 2-3 months for it to even ship

Attached: 1556811057160.jpg (600x427, 66K)

you can be a millionaire, but if you spend 1k on a headset that's barely better than a vive and has 300$ controllers sold on a mere promise of future games that'll be compatible with it, you're a retard. a rich retard, but a retard nonetheless

I think Oculus is just better equipped for this stuff than Valve.

DELET THIS

Valve being retarded is probably the best explanation

Why the fuck did Valve name it Knuckles with that stupid meme, every time I research VR Knuckles I get that stupid fucking sonic looking piece of shit laughing at me everywhere, jesus fuck do some basic marketing research good lord, there's like 1 fucking VR meme and that's what they chose as their name? Wtf?

>cherry picking one image from 6 months ago from an alpha build that it's confirmed to look way better than that
Shill cuck

Not to mention who even cares. It's literally not even attempting to target high end graphics. That's what the Rift S is for. Want high end graphics? Get a rift S. Want a reasonable priced VR experience that doesn't require a PC and/or desire portability? Get Quest.

I got both and I can't wait

The Knuckles
Already ordered mine

what's even good about the Rift S that you can't get on a WMR, original Rift or Vive?

>30fps
>nintendo switch tier graphics
>i-it was a beta!

yeah nah.

Attached: 75wo9k4f8po21.jpg (960x1080, 164K)

they changed the name to index controllers for that reason alone dumbass

Attached: 1556763037147m.jpg (827x1024, 133K)

From what I saw it's monthly batches, they're just backed up that much in reservations already
Still not great though

Index alreadly sold out.

I still don't get this image.
top is clearly an early development picture on an underpowered stand alone VR headset, while bottom is a final product on a PCVR headset like a rift S or Vive or index. if anything it just shows how good devs have gotten at optimizing VR games to look better and run just as well. that and well, don't buy a glorified phone VR headset if you have a PC .

quest obviously

>make 1000 units
>sell out in 30 minutes
INDEX WON GUYS!!!!! THE INDEX WON THEY RAN OUT OF STOCK UNTIL OCTOBER!!!

>make 30k quest and rift S units
>sell out
>make more units 3 days later

Attached: 1556285270527m.jpg (574x1024, 64K)

Normies buy $1,000 smart phones, $3,000 TVs, and $50,000 trucks. $1,000 for a vr headset is nothing.

>top is clearly an early development picture
What is this delusion? There are people playing the game and writing reviews for it right now.

venturebeat.com/2019/03/31/robo-recall-on-oculus-quest-looks-like-a-downgrade-from-rift/

If you think a game that a game that was meant to run on a gaming PC will run just the same on a battery operated wristwatch processor you're out of your mind.

>phones can do a hundred things and are basically necessary for modern communication and entretainment
>TVs can stream YouTube, Netflix, movies, cable, used for videogame consoles, etc
>vehicles are literally necessary in the 21st century
>VR headsets play a handful of niche tech demo games and nothing else
>300$ controllers can't even be used fully yet and only work for a tech demo and a failed game
>spending 1000$ on a promise that something good may come out
yeah no. this isn't a normie device. there's a reason normies pay 400$ for a console and not 1000$ for a gaming PC

reminder to get in on VR while it's dominated by white males, and before it reaches normie and female and minority populations. It won't be long until there's a social thing that causes women to flock to VR, and the platform becomes locked down because of the ensuing sexual harassment they face that is "more real than ever, imagine that guy on twitter right next to you, able to speak to you, whisper at you, touch your body and encroach your personal space!"

It is all about the knuckles for me.
The index+knuckles is what I wanted from gen1.
I got the first rushed out vive commercial version, but it didn't turn out so bad, thank goodness that HTC and valve thought a little ahead and went with a modular forward compatible design.

>God awful headstrap
replace with audio deluxe strap.
>Annoying cable
add a wireless module
>Bulky wands with shitty grip and no finger tracking
Replace with knuckles
>HMD starting to show its age
Replace with a better HMD that is backwards compatible with lighthouse v1.0

I am mainly bummed about the index reverting to LCD instead of OLED and not going for a similar resolution to the HP reverb.
The RGB over pentile sub-pixel arrangement would be better but the increased FoV reduces the benifit of the resolution and subpixel bump.
I wonder how much the difference in black levels would be noticeable in dark environments.
I love pitch dark levels, dark environments are easy to bump into if you play flight sims and horror games.

You are posting a still image from a badly encoded youtube video

If people are fine with having worse graphics, so what?
There are a ton of advantages to the system, no wires, low friction: no setup and instant startup, no starting your PC, starting steamvr. It's a cool piece of tech.

Quest doesn't even look bad.

>lying about fps
>posting the exact same image
>haha look, got u!!
Yikes. Everyone can see right through your bullshit

Are there even any good games on the horizon?

index already sold out and they're honoring backorders

That's my question too, I don't really have an opinion on VR but all i see is meme bullshit "experiences" and what look like dev test libraries and social rooms/rythym games

who gives a shit until it has stellar RPG's, Action titles and well-developed actual games on it? I'd throw money at if it had actual games

We can name some, but you'd just say they're literally who garbage so there's no point.

>400$ device marketed as a VR console with instant setup
vs
>1000$ device + 700$+ gaming PC that requires you to drill holes in your walls

really makes me think

Also valve are retarded for going half a year without a game release specifically for the index

Attached: 1550420241220.png (697x420, 719K)

>who gives a shit until it has stellar RPG's, Action titles and well-developed actual games on it? I'd throw money at if it had actual games

Unfortunately most AAA devs care only about maximizing profit with minimal investment and as such there will be no pull from the AAA dev community towards VR UNLESS people start buying more VR sets. If you want to see more games on VR, buy a HMD, even a cheap windows mixed reality or quest counts.

I actually want to know though. There are a couple of actual GAMES out now, but they're only as deep as a puddle and there are too few of them. I want to know if the situation is improving at all or if VR will be on life support for years longer.

>standalone VR headset
>that runs on a battery

can't wait for this shit show to leave a bad taste in plebs' mouth and makes them all think all VR is shit.

Holy fuck I need to become a female and open a Patreon.

If you want singleplayer games that are longer than 5-6 hours besides skyrim and fallout 4 it's not happening anytime soon.

Of course you can mod stuff like alien isolation with mother VR and get facegunning on an AAA title but it's not quite the same thing

Facebook is funding AAA releases, including a 30 hour long RPG, unlike HTC and Valve who just release hardware and hope some indie garage dev makes something interesting

sadly this is already a thing. too many dumbass women going crazy about sexual harassment when one of those vrchat/secondLife (they have VR now) trolling YouTubers touches their virtual ass and tits, and ofc you get the e-white knights, complete with basedboy playermodels coming over, mouth breathing hard and telling you that you're sexually assaulting the poor milady and they're calling the admins.

10FPS is pretty important with a strobing screen, though. The difference between 80Hz and 90Hz can mean visible flickering, that depends on each person. Rift S also does not have IPD adjustment, so if your eyes aren't exactly right for the device it will look blurry and if your IPD is far off it will probably be unusable due to eyestrain and/or headaches. The audio is also going to be much worse and the tracking is worse for sure.

So the only real advantages are better resolution, but not by much (and the virtual IPD adjustment with no physical movement will waste more screen area too, that's another thing). Lenses are also supposed to be better, but if your IPD isn't exactly right you're going to get blur anyway, because lens spacing cannot be adjusted. It's a really shitty product, it's not even really a sidegrade, it's straight up worse in too many areas to be worth calling that.

Without external sensors the headset also won't work well in the dark (or rather: won't work), the camera FoV will not pick up anything behind the headset and probably won't pick up the controllers in other scenarios, like when they are very close to your body. Yeah, it saves you a one-time 30min-1h setup procedure, but then it works worse for hundreds of hours you'd actually use it for. Pretty shitty trade. If it actually worked as well as external sensors it would be a plus, but it's shittier and the setup "effort" required with sensors is too low. I mean, the things came with stands. You literally just place them down on your table, or on top of a closet pointing down or some shit and they just work.

>Exclusives
Reminder that Valve is paying VR developers not to be exclusive, which is better than what the zucc is doing.
The quest shilling in this thread is immense and very obvious

what did he mean by this image?

is VR one whole "pay up goy" scheme?

Most action titles felt underwhelming to me.
It is just hard to get the mechanics right for a satisfying experience when you have limited space.
Dodging always felt so unnatural and unsatisfying, especially with teleporting which creates a disconnect every time you use it.
Sarentino was alright, I've enjoyed that action title the most so far.
Cover based FPSes that are slower paced are more satisfying to me, given the current tech's limitations.
Pavlov was decent.

I am more of a fan of slower paced detailed simulations such as cockpit sims and H3VR.
Funnily enough, the most time I have spent using VR was with flight sims like il2:BOS with rudder pedals+hotas.
VtolVR was such a fucking great flight sim concept.
I loved interacting with virtual instrumentation using my hands, but everything was so chunky and ugly looking.

Meta verse type applications and MMOs would be great if done right.
VRchat was a good example, mostly due to the user created content but I still found it lacking quality wise with the minigames.

she's up to 300k/month if you check now btw

how do we stop the beta males?

>Without external sensors the headset also won't work well in the dark (or rather: won't work), the camera FoV will not pick up anything behind the headset and probably won't pick up the controllers in other scenarios, like when they are very close to your body. Sure, but that one time setup is an entry barrier working against mass adaption. You as an ethusiast might think its silly, but the direction facebook is going is clear. 400$ pricerange, low friction.

I do think IPD is important but PSVR is very successful despite not having a physical adjustment, most normies dont even know what IPD is.

Why would this anger anyone it's fucking sales figures
Why does Yea Forums bring up metacritic/sales as an actual argument now this is bizarre

wow the consumer can choose to upgrade if they want to but still be able to play with the base kit surely this is the jewing of the goyim

I won't disagree that it is a non-gratis solution.
Eventually it will all get cheaper and more accessible.
A decent amount of options are available at various price ranges. Lowest without going for chink or used HMDs is around $400.

The main problem is the lack of a solid lineup of content that you could play and enjoy beyond first impressions.

Did you expect any less from a nu/v/ shitposter?

Rec Room had a pretty decent if very clunky one IIRC. The map was huge though and it looked and ran like shit

So wait, are all the VR headsets/companies exclusives models where there's a selection of games explicitly for each headset?
It's not a standardized IEEE thing where all games work on all VR headsets????

give them an anime GF AI in VR

Attached: IMG_20190429_191140_917.jpg (280x300, 19K)

Almost all VR Vive games work with the Oculus, but not every VR Oculus game works with Vive.

waiting for vr botw ft. sao tower myself
youtu.be/Jn16hBYiUkY
mmo is so far off, vr would need to somehow be mainstream considering the genre is a shadow of what it once was even outside vr

*natively, that is
You can still sort of run them through ReVive, though in some cases it doesn't work too well. Depends on control setup.

it's like this
>buy rift/rift S
>access to all games on every platform
or
>buy wmd/Vive/index
>play only whatever is on steam VR and if you want to play anything else you have to download a glitchy buggy third party program that makes your headset think it's a rift but the software has to be calibrated or whatever for each individual game so if a game isn't popular enough you're shit out of luck and get to play with default settings with jumpy ass visuals

so are people just using oculus quests and go as porn media machines? what are they using these for, certainly not gaming

Oculus funds some games and locks those to their system because they are kikes (third party revive lets you around it)
Would bet my sonic & knuckles that HLVR won't lock out Oculus users

no porn on the oculus store. doesn't even have a web browser

Come to my office for a meeting. We have much to discuss.

Attached: 73d8af622f6cfbc3684f9a90a555bb69.jpg (640x512, 36K)

Casual gaming (most VR) should work fine
It's obviously not intended for anyone that resides here

>You as an ethusiast might think its silly
You're acting like this is some highly involved procedure that requires an "enthusiast" to go through. You literally place the fucking things down on a flat surface, then plug in USB cables. It's about as complicated as setup for a Wii sensor bar, that didn't seem to hinder mass adoption of the Wii.

Rift DID have issues with how picky it was with USB controllers, but time and progress to better controllers (like 10Gbps) have solved that shit without Oculus even doing anything.
>most normies dont even know what IPD is
That's even fucking worse, because that shit can actually fuck up your eyes and cause physical symptoms. Not like, "VR sickness" which you adjust to, that shit will fuck up your eyes if the lenses don't fit you properly. I tried setting my Rift to the wrong IPD and other than looking blurry it felt like wearing glasses when you don't actually need any. The eye strain is fucking awful.

>HLVR won't lock out Oculus users
Of course not, if Valve makes a game it will be a SteamVR title and those work fine on Rift.

Yup, that's the part that sucks because they don't even sell the Rift here any more so it's either buying a Rift S and hoping you're part of that 70% or whatever that can use it properly, or buy an old used unit.

They'll just start throwing their phat moolah at women escorts acting out their fantasies in virtual space until AI advances enough.
Imagine the sheer amount of shekel you can bank until the entire process is automated.
You just need to modulate a female voice and have mad ERP skillz.
Hell you probably won't even need that with advances in vocaloid tech.
I wouldn't be surprised if males outdo women in that space, it would be funny to see.

w-what, its got a snadragon 835, which is already dated, the growth for these games graphically are already stilted

Attached: 1532100004901.png (200x200, 38K)

You could create and control AI for different avatars personalized for each victim that would manipulate them into paying up as they do with streamers tapping into their revenue pool.

With a dedicated enough team, all that can be a reality and more. Import a couple Russian AI nerds to work a personality matrix, let the user customize their woman, lease amazon's voice thingy and you can start harvesting betas like a pro.

>doesn't even have a web browser

Thats just a lie user

Or dump Oculus and buy SteamVR/WMR. WMR will have even shittier tracking than S, but you can get better screens and I believe there are also models with IPD adjustment, so at least you are guaranteed to get the sharpest image possible and no eye rape.

As a Rift owner I'm honestly happy with the hardware itself, but I regret paying for games on their walled garden. Those games will never be officially playable on any other headset I buy in the future and now Oculus doesn't even make headsets which I can use anymore and I know that for a fact because my IPD is 70-71mm.

its overclocked, fan cooled and not limited by throttling in a 5mm case.
Carmack says its as powerful as a PS3, that puts it in the realm off the switch in terms of power.

1. There's a browser built into it, literally one of the five buttons on the dashboard
2. you can side load

using D&B as an example is bait tier. That's not exactly a graphically robust game.

That's honestly fucking awful for VR. PS3 has a GPU derived from a GeForce 7800/7900 or something like that. It's been almost a decade and a half since GeForce 7 came out. As for Switch, you can have a look at how 'well' BotW runs in VR and how nice it looks, despite its already very simple graphics.

youtube.com/watch?v=CvrjNLsGQZI
Actually really looking forward to trying BOTW with a real headset after some more development time. Some of the environments look like they would be really nice in VR.

Would be amazing with some gameplay mods like eating taking time and some alterations to how weapons break and gerudo femdom

Haven't really looked into CEMU. Hopefully that's possible.

That reminds me to shill pirating Skyrim and loading it with tons of mods like MageVR and VRIK.
Old vid of my modded Skyrim streamable.com/1qr97
It can actually become a decent VR game with mods as long as you don't engage in too much melee.

Wonder how hard I'm gonna have to gimp my mods/SS with the Index soon as I'm already struggling to maintain 45 fps on a 1080ti without OpenComposite. Hopefully it runs better under just SteamVR with no Oculus runtime overhead.

Do you have an image of the recent build? If not, it's just hearsay that it's better then.

>Not to mention who even cares.
Everyone who cares about the simulationism of video games but also wants greater comfort in a device that is inherently more uncomfortable compared to playing without it.

The quest comes out later this month. Then everyone can laugh at you and anyone else dumb enough to buy into vending machine VR.

I call bullshit. No videos of the Quest in play look like that.

wtf I thought he was like a boomer

Just imagine his 24/7 shitpulling power

This is the worst thing about life.
When I was a kid I genuinely thought my parents were full of shit when they said that life would be so much harder when I was an adult.

Then I finished studying and had to get a real job and suddenly my easymode life stopped being easymode. I hate working.

Epic are masters of their engine and performance, you can hate them all you want but you can't deny this, Fortnite is living proof.

A reasonable argument might that Robo Recall is the best looking game on Quest and that won't be exceeded for a while if ever. Most games won't look that good and it doesn't look that great.

Still can't fucking wait to get my quest. I already have a Go which is awesome, and I know Touch is amazing, so throw those two together, i'm sold.

lol I always knew they weren't
When you're young everyone is super understanding and you can basically get away with being shit at things

Because I bought the Index, it sold more. I am fat as fuck and count for a million people

lmao just stop working and be a neet like me
then get a job doing VR porn, like me
Then go from a high school dropout neet to making 40k
lmao

This world is a joke.

the one that doesn't cost $1000 obviously

Let me enjoy my fucking escapism don't remind me that I'm not gonna have the education safety net anymore again in less than a month.

Also you basically get infinite chances at everything. When you're a kid if you screw up everyone is just like "It's okay kid, you can always try again".

When you're an adult and you screw up you're fucked. Having to actually do things right every day or face serious consequences is so tiring.

you know why

Quest will obviously move incomparably more units, at least for the foreseeable future.

Index is introducing features that will become standard, just like the Vive did.

The Quest is barely better than those phone VR things they sell at walmart, I can't wait for the backlash once people start playing all those ports and realize they spent $400 for N64 graphics

Index is already sold out, quest is literally a phone without the phone shit.

Index is topping the steam sale charts which is by revenue, comparison to the game mordhaus player counts gives very rough estimate of ~26k units sold, as of yesterday morning.

It's funny when people tell me the Quest will be bad because I already have a Go, and the Go is a quest with 1 3dof controller instead of 2 6dof Touch controllers.
Oh, and better screen, but it's already damn good on the Go.
So tell me again why it's so bad? Because the graphics aren't as good as my 2080ti can produce? Cool, I'll go on my PC when I want that with my Rift S.

The advantages make up for it. Also, who even cares? The most popular games usually look like shit - see minecraft. When you can be immersed in a world it doesn't fucking matter.

Quest is going to be based.

you dont think dudes are encroaching that space already?
let me tell you something shit like vrchat has tons of dudes well on their way to pull shit like that

I kind of like work more than I liked school. With work it's 100% out of my mind when I leave the office, once I'm out it's all free time. With school I'd get out of school and then have a bunch of extra school work taking up a good chunk of my day anyway, I really like the hard separation between work and private life I have now.

If it was possible, the chinks would have made them already.
Maybe valve will make some pucks, but I doubt they will be cheaper.

Attached: vrfish1.webm (852x480, 2.96M)

Looks better than the chink fishing games I've seen on steam user.
It will be crazy when a decent fantasy game has tons of little minigames like this, smithing swords/armor, farming, cooking and woodcutting.

Because HTC is greedy.

You will thaw, drain and surrender that ball to me, at which point I will use it to bombard you! Bombardment!

VR runescape when?

I started making that, and I have individual prototypes of almost all of them (at least, archery, magic, melee I struggle with but I'm almost there). Different crafting systems.

The problem is a game like that needs actual content, levels, a story, dungeons, etc. And that takes time. Too much for one person. So I've settled for making a fishing minigame into a full game (hopefully) so I can get something out.

You mother fuckers lied to me.

Funny, my "easy mode" started when I finished school and finally started working. I have all the money in the world, I get paid for being at a place I don't like for 8 hours unlike school, and since I live on my own I can do whatever I want.
I swear I had way more responsibilities and things to worry about as a teen than I do now. No homework, no exams, no nagging parents, nothing.

What about that cancer slowly eating out your insides?

I've always had that

the cameras are for passthrough just like the vive and vive pro. in the index they're higher-quality cameras chosen for their suitability for computer-vision applications. the unstated intent is that 'the community' create a hack to let index work like WMR and possibly to do native hand tracking. just like 'the community' create ReVive. in the future buying just the Index will be a viable option.

Index cameras "cant" see depth, so no, no hand tracking.
Have to smack a leap motion in that slot. But Knuckles already "does" fingrr tracking, so no need for it.

Because Valve are scum. There's literally no reason they can't sell a cheap puck with a couple of sensors and a pin-out for a cheap development board like a teensy or an arduino or something.

What's sad is the pucks were intended for peripheral development, except nobody has bothered making anything with them. You're supposed to eventually swap them out for custom mounting of the sensors so you can save a lot of money for yourself and the consumer, but instead brainlets use them for leg tracking.

Fucking this, was just about to say this. Other user doesn't know what he's talking about

The stupid thing, it should be stupid easy for some chinese company to come along and mass pump out a bunch of tracking points, or 'pucks' with IMUs slapped in them, on the stupid cheap, but no one's capitalized on it yet.
github.com/ashtuchkin/vive-diy-position-sensor

I mean 72fps is still pretty low for VR.

Do you realize that all the HTC products were never first-party Valve products?

I can see your point, but you could just as well program the arduino as a HID gamepad and use the puck for it's intended purpose, tracking.

>people are reposting my shitty mspaint edit
nice

I wonder if anyone will actually figure out some worthwhile addon for that expansion port. I can't really imagine what you could add.

>'the community' create a hack to let index work like WMR
Sounds basically impossible. The Index controllers do not have IR LEDs on them AFAIK, they just have sensors. The cameras cannot 'see' the controllers. Hand tracking with no controller would also not sound very plausible, simply because the cameras aren't even pointing down, not to mention that with hand tracking alone you wouldn't even be able to actually play games. How do you shoot a gun? Make a finger gun and play pretend? How do you move? It doesn't work.

cause if retards are stupid enough to pay 1000$ for a vive that lets you put it 1cm closer to your eyes, they're stupid enough to pay a fuckton of cash for some cuck pucks

you could fit a leap motion there.

>hz=fps
Are you actually retarded?

But would a leap motion really do anything for you that the Index controllers don't already do?

PSVR or Oculus Quest? Keep in mind these are my only two options as my PC isn't that good and it's in an office space anyway, not even close to being big enough for motion controls

>Have to smack a leap motion in that slot
The current leap motion won't fit the slot.
There's a possibility for a new model though.

Backwards compatibility for applications that require one.

so what does a 72hz refresh rate translate to in terms of framerate then?

PSVR, it has more worthwhile exclusives.

why so many

Attached: emu2.webm (602x370, 2.46M)

You can't really see more FPS than your screen can refresh per second, can you now?

If Index came with FBT out of the box I'd be able to stomach the $1k price tag more, since that'd be $300 less in Vive pucks needed.

>>VR headsets play a handful of niche tech demo games and nothing else
Actually, they can stream Youtube, Netflix, movies, etc. in a movie theater environment, and you can share the environment with others on Bigscreen, etc
There are also games like VRChat where you can import 3d models you made yourself and express yourself with others.
VR can also be used to simulate a 100" 2d screen or multiple screens which you can watch movies on or use your mouse + keyboard to do work with.
All of this shit already exists and will be made far better by new headsets with better resolution and audio.
There are endless possibilities, the only thing we need is more software and game developers. Most of them are busy working on their shit which will take years to complete.

Attached: hammerspin.webm (1920x1080, 738K)

nothing? you can have a 144hz monitor, doesn't mean you have 144fps you absolute retard. God damn I can just tell you're a 14 year old who watched a review of a monitor on YouTube from some basedbox unboxing channel who knows nothing about tech and now you think you know everything

Knees and elbows

Still have to jump through Disc*rd hoops to get that?

It's because this shit has no consumers.

When I went shopping around for something as basic as a plastic grip to turn my Vive wand into a gun shape with a sane grip angle, I found the only real option was some guy in America 3D printing this shit for 20 bucks.

When I wanted a stock, again, you're looking at 50 bucks minimum for a bit of fucking plastic. God forbid you wear glasses, because if you don't want to scratch your lenses you're looking at 70 bucks minimum.

This is what happens to all niche hobbies. They're set upon by opportunists who jack the prices up to justify the mediocre sales they're making.

so it might as well run at 30fps then

Attached: 1460435238667.jpg (108x169, 5K)

You doing some mocap my duderino?
Noice.

Do VR applications which require a Leap Motion even exist?

>Refuses to use something even if he can get something he wants out of it
Why tho
And don't give me "Muh privacy" horseshit, you can make throwaway emails and not download the client

Is this a joke? The Quest will move more units. The Index on have to sell 2 for every 5 quests though, so who knows about which will earn more.

Valve have never sold pucks you mong

Sure, not for the public though. Our company makes VR applications for automobile companies for example.

VRChat can use it with a plug-in I think.

hz = cycles per second
60hz = 60 ps

You idiot.

>graphics are all that matter
I bet you thought the Switch would flop too, huh?

pedantic faggot obviously something can run lower

>What's sad is the pucks were intended for peripheral development, except nobody has bothered making anything with them
Almost all of the mixed reality videos used a puck. It was the main point of the hardware being made, so you can do that sort of video work. Even the Rift did it by allowing a third Touch controller to act as a tracked object for similar tasks.

I know this is a bait, but why 200 dollars? Consoles are usually much more than that and succeed fine. Even new iphones reach the 1k mark.

>The quest will hands down sell better.
I believe this is correct and it won't even be close. The Quest is a truly stand-alone unit. It is has no wires and does not need to be connected, wired or wirelessly to a PC. A person can take the Quest headset with him while travelling and be able to use it almost anywhere.

As for Quest being owned by Facebook, it's not going to matter. Even though FB is evil incarnate, it still has hundreds of millions of users who either don't care or are too stupid. The people who care about privacy are a very small minority who don't get a lot of publicity (perhaps in large part because of the fact that they care about privacy) and the loss of their business isn't going to matter.

The only question is how many units the Quest is going to sell. I have no earthly idea but I'd expect it to sell at least 10x the number of Valve's overpriced, underwhelming Index headset.

>Even new iphones reach the 1k mark.
99% of people who buy new phones are not only braindead, but they buy them on contract, where they get the phone for "free" and then just pay 2 grand over the course of the next year so they can make texts and browse twitter.

Consoles offer 10 times more than VR does.

Valve's production line is probably not as robust as Oculus'.

PSVR has better games. Might want to wait to see what gets announced for PS5 though, because VR for that is supposed to be backwards compatible anyway.

But there are plenty of phones that can do most of those things alot cheaper, but people still opt for the more expensive route

gamu?

>it's like I'm really sitting in a room playing video games!

Attached: 1548974551040.gif (400x400, 2M)

Quite the opposite. I thought it wouldn't but it did.

No one is going to look at a self-contained VR unit as a system/platform, so they're going to expect it to be priced according to what they perceive.

Unless Apple made one, in which case enjoy your $4k payment over the period of two years. On that note, wonder what Apple is doing in that realm since they were actively doing VR R&D a couple years back.

>Switch
>flop
Oh, you're just retarded. Okay.

>all baby's-first-unity-project snap-together trigger events
I want to have to push that disc in to pop it in securely, and apply force to get the PS1's tray to slam down.

Plush why are there no controllers hooked up or cables on the snes

>can't get any real games
>capcom had to abandon it due to lack of power
>Nintendo literally about to leave the hardware business because nothing they make is good enough to compete with real systems
>turned out to be worse than the PS Vita

But nah yeah enjoy that cardboard, I suppose.

Attached: caseyanthonyST_939920e.jpg (429x546, 27K)

>Consoles offer 10 times more than VR does.
Thats arguable but even so i would say that means its a software issue, not a price issue.
I think the quest's 399 price point is actually a pretty fair bar of entry
i bought an index though

You forgot the basic bitch unity plugin for screen capture that adds a shitload of latency.

I really fucking hope VR gets some real devs at some point. There are so many really basic things that are still a total pipedream.

From what I understood it goes beyond joining a channel and asking for a key.
I remember some VRChat community basically wanted you to rep some faggot every other day so you can use his stolen assets.

>Nintendo literally about to leave the hardware business
The Switch is literally the fastest-selling home console in both Japan and the United States
I doubt they're going anywhere.

Attached: 1458484064016.png (847x714, 1.19M)

The Quest will sell five times the amount the Index does.

It will be considered a failure with a bunch of unsold units.

The Index will sell through every last unit.

Fuck off dude, a headset is worthless if it's not possible to simrace on it.

Attached: 1550703621763.jpg (662x463, 64K)

They aren't going anywhere but they said they want to stop making hardware since all they can make are sorry excuses for systems liked only people with severe mental problems. They'll continue to make games for phones and other consoles.

it's almost like the switch is a portable and they want to continue making good portable or hybrid consoles

>some blogger
It's what furukawa said, you dolt. Why do you think it's getting such wide coverage?

TLDR: Right now we can only give the nintendo experience on our own systems but we don't want to focus on that anymore. As tech gets better, we never do so we will want to bring the nintendo experience to other platforms instead.

>the only thing its used for is porn.
>there is no uncensored jav vr porn for the western market

>NintendoLife
>wide coverage

Google it, moron. You want screenshots from every single article or something?

I don't think you know how Google searches work

>rift S

That thing that can only run pre loaded phone games?

there is no doubt in my mind that there will be an almost immediate hack to make the Index HMD itself recognize as a WMR HMD.

That's the Quest

You're thinking of the quest. Rift S supplants the Rift.

That almost certainly will not happen, first of all because Index is not designed for it and secondly because I see no purpose to it. Why buy a more expensive system with superior tracking and then hack it into an inferior version of an already inferior system which you could buy cheaper from the get go?

I'm getting an index for flight/space sim games and there's nothing you can do to stop me.

Also the porn

why would you want to downgrade your tracking system?

I might buy an index just because I have over $1000 of steambux sitting around, even if I don’t know what games I’d play. How long would the index last? I assume that because it’s a peripheral there’s nothing stopping me from using it a decade from now when the hot new vr set has released?

>want the Quest for comfort
>want the Rift S for better graphics
>might not have room for Rift S but definitely have room for Quest
>most of the games I want to play won't be on Quest
fug, wat do

Buy a Rift S, Quest, and Index

I'd guess the hardware itself, as long as it's built decently, should last. The only potential points of failure I see are the motors/mechanical assemblies in the beacons and the built-in batteries in the controllers. No idea about where VR would be in 10 years and whether current systems in terms of tracking and controls would be entirely superseded or not.

I'd think rather not, I mean tracking is already basically perfect and I don't see much else a controller could do beyond finger tracking like Index already does. Haptics maybe, but that shouldn't make controllers without haptics unusable.

It will happen because it will be easy to make happen. The cameras were chosen for their suitability for CV. What value it may have, especially in the absence of any particular control input, is another question. All-optical hand/finger tracking will also be very achievable with the Index cameras, but will be harder and probably take longer.

The cameras don't even point in the right direction. Beyond that, there are a couple of fundamental problems.
If somebody DOES get hand tracking working, hand tracking without controllers is useless for SteamVR games.
You cannot track the controllers, since the controllers do not have tracking LEDs like WMR controllers do.

>Index cameras "cant" see depth, so no, no hand tracking
but they already released a SDK for hand tracking on Vive/Vive Pro
youtube.com/watch?v=Jp_kQ1se5O0

This, and I can almost guarantee you it will work with the index with minimal adjustment. Same for WMR tracking for the HMD. Someone will spoof the Index to recognize as a WMR HMD within the first week it's out.

>Same for WMR tracking for the HMD. Someone will spoof the Index to recognize as a WMR HMD within the first week it's out.
And do what exactly with no controllers? Play KB&M games on a more expensive headset than a WMR kit which could play those AND play actual VR games too? For what purpose?

>want the Quest for comfort
The Quest weighs significantly more than other HMDs, due to the battery and such. It isn't the kind of comfort by a long shot

I'm just saying it will happen. We don't know if the cameras have IR sensitivity or not, if they do, I imagine the WMR spoof will also support WMR controller tracking (and possibly Touch).

I really can't see why anyone would be motivated to work on turning an Index into a shitty and yet more expensive version of WMR, but sure.

shame, i couldn't tell the difference

if it were $500 + $100-150 WMR/Touch controllers it would be undoubtedly the best WMR HMD.

>it would be undoubtedly the best WMR HMD
As long as you wish to stare at the floor in order to get your hands in the camera FoV, sure.

Quest is better interms of actual headset hardware (screen, lenses, tracking), but as of now ps4 has better processing power and probably more compelling titles.

thoughts bros? Comes with headset, the controllers, charger, and a $25 psn card. Only thing is a used headset could be kinda icky but he says it's barely used and I'd check it out before buying

Attached: Screenshot_20190503-142742_letgo.jpg (1428x2428, 1.9M)

just like every other two-camera WMR

Except 2-camera WMR headsets tend to have the cameras angled down, not forward, plus they may have higher FoV, since tracking is their actual purpose and not a hypothetical 3rd party hack. IIRC the guy from Tested said that the camera FoV doesn't even cover the headset's FoV in pass-through.

>psvr

Don't

I don't have a pc for vr, is the psvr that bad?

It has some good exclusives, but overall it's not that good of an alterative to PCVR

>Sold out in the first 30 minutes
>Everyone after that has to wait until September
>Not even a word of when they will sell it outside of America or EU
FUCK

Valve are probably manufactoring the headset themselves like they did with the Steam Controller so I suppose they're still trying to work out international shipping.

I'm just disappointed that they promised a June release and in reality it looks like canucks and strayafags have to wait until the end of the year.

How can you keep the Knuckles safe from drop bears?

Don't. Save your money for a better VR headset. As much as the meme glorified tech demo thing is thrown around a lot it's especially true of PSVR.

Attached: Ace Combat 7 VR is shit.png (1155x97, 31K)

Quest without a single doubt. It's cheaper, more people can buy it, and the novelty factor is there.

>400 vs 1000
>wireless, worse hardware than even the new Rift, closed store that might not get new games immediately unless the Quest does insanely well
Quest will sell better but I think if your interest in VR you go for the Index and better hardware. I bet you could count the pixels on some Quest games.

I hope the Knuckles are as good as people say they are. I've seen the Oculus controller and I am surprised the Quest doesn't do a larger iteration on it. The Knuckles seem like the best implementation thus far, and is what the Quest would liked to have had.

This.
Quest will sell better but stuff like Index is what will keep pushing the hardware and APIs.

Nah, I reserved it second wave, says July 31. People coming in later will probably be September/October.
They are probably ramping up as we speak.

Fuck. I got third wave August 31st.

how do you check the expected shipping of your order?

They're changing something. After a they ran out, the estimate was September 30+, but after even longer it changed to August 31+, when I reserved mine. I'm kind of pissed I thought reserving would require some money or something, I would've reserved immediately had I known you just click a button and get a reservation with no commitment to purchase.

I didn't want to pre-order because I want to see real reviews and real user reports before dumping 1079EUR in Valve's lap.

Anyone use Rift here and actually decorate that apartment they give you?

Attached: oculus-home-2.0.jpg (1920x1080, 513K)

Can't say I have, I put my headset on and run a game. I honestly wish there was a way to disable that shit and stop it from loading.

Mail when you reserve.
I was gonna buy it, but was out getting pizza so could only reserve it when I got back. No payment up front, but I will get it one month later now.
At least I get to see the reviews from first wavers, and have time to make my bedroom into a vr room.

Something I've noticed with the advent of motion controllers is that interaction physics are pretty key to immersion. Models simply doing animations and not responding to knocks or awkward surroundings are a dead give-away.

Maybe we'll go back to simulated animations, like in Jurassic Park: Trespasser. While it looks janky, it would mean everything is physically interactive and because npcs aren't just animations played in bounding boxes, giant and tiny ones would work in most scenery.

I wish they gave the option to deactivate it entirely. They even patched out a hack that let me disable it before.

Been saying that what gaming needs are dedicated physics processors for ages but the industry decided to go with shitass ray tracing instead, as it makes for better promotional screenshots.

this is exactly what is happening. boneworks, gorn, etc. 100% physics-driven games.

So this is your first headset? I never would've even considered a ~1100EUR kit if I didn't know what I was getting into, that I already liked it and perhaps most importantly that I did not suffer from motion sickness. It would be too much of a gamble otherwise.

What are some VR remakes/mods you want to see? For me? It's Trespasser.

I'm absolutely devastated that it costs so much money. I was banking on it being 700 dollars minimum.

You think something like The Sims could ever work in VR? I want to pretend I'm a normal person.

Maximum*

My order email didn't say anything about shipping.

Nah, got a wmr, lenovo explorer a few months back since I knew new stuff was coming this year. Rift S look like it will be shit and vive is old, vive pro is a cashgrab.
I havem oney but nothing to spend it on, and VR is one of the few things thats actually a novelty for once. So Im ok with throwing money on it.
Also gonna get FBT for an extra £300.

It's entirely possible. Stuff like vrchat is proof positive that it works and can work.

Consoles killed physics. In the quest for a graphical "leap" they drastically reduced the amount of overhead allotted to systems like this.

Mine says estimated availability 31 of June.
I guess you will have quite an wait id you didint get a date.

Would love to see a ground up remake/HD enhanced port of Ripper. Since VR is caught up it'd be funny to play this VR with retooled puzzles and floating around in the cyberspace bits.

VRchat is nothing at all like The Sims.

That's true. Though right now it feels more like they're just dangling in strings while their limbs IK around. It's a start though.

Obduction gave me a bit of hope for that. Especially how it used live actors and what I think was 3D capture. Older games would probably be impossible to remaster that way though.

I don't think the Quest is gonna move the needle, so I say Index until the reviews come out exposing it as underwhelming.

Time Crisis would be nice to see but they'd have to do something about the transitions between spots. Even if you're not motion sick, it could still make you dizzy on your feet.

With Index finger tracking,I can finally rub my vrfu's vrcock's frenulum with my thumb.

That is it's exact purpose.

Thoughts on the pimax headsets in general?

Loved mine but it was always something temporary until Index

imagine grabbing clown peppos nose and honking it hard

>Quest
Creativity programs look good but the mobile games aint got shit on psvr, which has actual games and costs a similar price and pc vr which shits all over the above. Quest is just an overpriced and even more closed mobile phone

>Blood and Truth
>Everybody's Golf
>Mini-Mech Games
>something else(?)
What are you looking forward to this month? Personally I've got nothing but backlog until Tokyo Chronos comes out. We're definitely lacking in the weeb game department.

Not looking forward to anything. Bought VR Kanojo so probably gonna patch and play it this weekend.
Looking forward to it.

Shadow of chernobyl

PSVR is great if you want to just play with the dualshock while sitting down. It sucks for anything that requires the motion controls. Below are the good games that you can play with the dualshock, that I've tried:

>Astro Bot Rescue Mission
>Resident Evil 7
>DOOM VFR
>Moss
>WipEout Omega
>Ace Combat 7 (limited side mode)

Dreams also looks very cool, and I think it's dualshock friendly.

Kingdom Come. It's perfect for VR.

Definitely. I'd like there to be an optional off rails mode. House of the Dead be prime too.
