It's one of the best jrpgs right now. Make sure to get the Orchestral Overhaul Mod if you buy it.
Is it actually long or padded with mandatory grinding?
No grind at all if you play it for the story like a sane person would.

the nonary games is fine for ztd, but don't play 999 on it. 999 was made for the ds and all the ports kinda ruin things. also I wouldn't buy an entire series all at once, because maybe you'll hate it and end up wasting all that money. just buy dr1 and go from there if you like it, and same with 999

Any VNs actually worth buying on steam or are they all censored shit which requires 3 to 4 patches to get the same version you can get for free off pirate sites?
I don't pirate anymore since i caught a RAT and i was using some good private trackers. Now matter how good are your precautions, some day you will catch a cold or even something worse.
