Something I'm curious about is raid bosses teleporting players to them. One of my most vivid memories of BWL is stealthing up ahead of my raid and activating the Chromaggus lever because I had no idea what it would do. The ensuing confusion and panic as the boss started teleporting each raid member only to one-shot them and summon the next one to him is something I'll never forget. I don't think I've ever seen this mechanic or even heard anyone mention it on any private server before.

Forgive me, but what do the numbers actually mean? I can understand that more stealth level = harder to detect (right?) but how does it stack up to the natural stealth detection, or perception, or paranoia? Or uh.. i think there's a potion also.
Am I understanding it correctly that the "effective stealth level" means you'd be like you're level 65 to a level 60 as far as detection goes?

Every +5 units of stealth bonus, is equivalent to being stealthed as one level higher

Night elves have a flat +5 stealth bonus racial. So a level 59 night elf rogue and a level 60 human are equally spotted at the same distance from a level 60 orc, let's say.

Conversely, stealth detection works the same way. So +30 stealth detection from paranoia gives you 6 levels of stealth detection. Meaning a level 60 warlock would see stealthed mobs around them, as though they are a level 66

So question. I know Fury warrior is shit in Vanilla, Arms was good at PVP and that's it and Protection was the best tank. But what spec do I level as? When I played Vanilla in my teens I went arms but I had no idea what I was doing because I just picked what looked cool. I heard Fury 2 Hander is a thing but is it good to level? Or should I just go slow and steady with Protection?

You can level as arms or fury, so long as you update your weapons regularly.
Both perform close to each other in the hands of an average skilled player, but I will say go 2h, since updating one weapon is cheaper and easier than updating two for dual wielding.

Related to rogue leveling, is it stupid to go primarily sub? The stealth and pvp talents look really useful.
I know combat and riposte are amazing for leveling and grinding, and that combat is the default raiding spec (i believe.. i have to read more, maybe it depends a bit on weapons too) but i've always leveled in a pvp spec on private servers, but that came a bit easier since i was leveling hybrids (paladin/shaman).
I'll keep reading so no need to spoonfeed me. Getting pretty curious how much private server info, guides, etc will translate accurately to classic. For example, eye of the storm as a shaman or reckoning as a paladin won't be nearly the same as /sit i now understand has been bugged on most private servers.

I leveled as a sub rogue in vanilla. Personally I would into master of deception+ improved stealth CD/speed + improved vanish CD

Because life without those perks is honestly hell. And theres a lot of quests as a rogue where you can finish them early, if you stealth into a giant enemy camp and loot an item, or stealth into a camp and down a target, and those perks really help.

Going straight sword and board and facetanking everything but be optimal. But if you play on a pvp server, you will really appreciate the vanish CD and stealth speed

Fury is the best melee dps spec in the game but it doesn't shine until you have dualwield and shitloads of hit gear, which won't be available during leveling. During leveling always stick to a two-hander. Weapon is the most important upgrade for warrior and levels 30-40 will be a nightmare on a launch because there is a serious lack of weapons unless you do high level quests to upgrade like whirlwind axe, spade from STV or one another from Arathi I believe or run RFK until you get Corpsemaker. Alliance have it easy because they get a good weapon from Scarlet Monastery quest.

Put the first 40 points into arms and rest into Fury. There are some talents that are flexible, like improved charge and obviously axe specilization.

Sub has nice perks but it's hard to go anything else than combat swords because you get some many powerful talents for leveling. Shit like +5% hit, Riposte (6s cooldown, 6s disarm), blade flurry, sword spec, adrenaline rush + blade furry allows you to kill 4 mob packs easily, etc.
I'm sure you can play some combat/sub hybrid but once you get the two swords from SM and RFD quest, I don't see any reason to not play combat. At level ~47 you get thrash blade from Maraudon, and you will be using that weapon until 60.

There's also the frontstab build it could be one of those private server things.

Front stab never worked in vanilla. It wont work in classic. Rogues are squishy as fuck and 5% parry chance over 1.5 min reduced vanish CD? I dont care what some private server autist says. In vanilla, you needed vanish way more than 5% parry.

Raids have like 8-12 warriors consistently, and most of them are fury, Mages, Rogues and Fury Warriors are the top 3 DPS in the game. The only theoretical chance at playing arms/fury 2h is on Horde with windfury, on Alliance you'd only ever think of equipping a two hander in PvP.
For leveling I'd say 2h Fury has better talents until you reach 31 points, then you want Arms for Mortal Strike.

Jokes on you. I'm rolling gnome warlock on a pvp server. Which I did back in vanilla after I checked my PVP servers statistics, and saw that warlock was the least played class. So I picked it. And then when I hit level 30 and made my way to STV....I understood why

Warlocks bridge the gap between meme DPS like Hunters, and the top 3. Unironically summon is one of the best spells in the game.

Cata had a strong start, but then Blizvision just took a huge dive into the deep end with catering to tards (more so than usual) and nerfed all content, with the only difficult thing being heroic raiding.

Vanish is rogues' only real "oh fuck" button. Which I relied heavily on while leveling a rogue. Because you're super squishy as rogue. What's more important at level 28? 5% parry or 1.5 reduced CD on your "oh fuck" button? How much do you like corpse running?

Hope you picked night elf then, cause you'll be corpse running a lot. ESPECIALLY if you play on a pvp server

Not true. Evasion is incredible and you also have Ghostly Strike bumping you up another 15%. Then you have Sprint which can be used for many things like getting back into stealth, especially if you have Crippling Poison up. Speaking of getting back into stealth you have Blind which is a fantastic CC assuming the enemy doesn't resist it. Besides you don't need to be sub to vanish. You just get prep with Sub which

You misunderstand what I am saying. You would pop evasion on whirlwind because it's an oh fuck situation otherwise you die. You don't vanish because then you just pulled right out due to bleeds or WW itself. It's a huge "oh fuck" button that even allows you to tank for a bit if you pull threat by mistake which is very common back then.

BfA had the biggest fall off in quality. Legion was the best nu-WoW expansion by a large margin and instead of just progressing the order halls/artifact weapons they decided to scrap what made the systems good and keep and amplify the grinds. WoD still makes me the most mad because of how little effort they put into it, but atleast that work got put into Legion. BfA is irreedamble though, it's obvious Blizzard have this desire to reinvent the wheel with every WoW expansion and I hope that work ethic doesn't seep into Classic

Well that's not really what I would call an "oh fuck button." Well I would but just a different kind. I used to also use Vanish to mitigate damage back before they fixed it. Remember how Vanish dropped all the time due to latency? If you used it at the right time you could make spells miss. Like vanishing while a PoM/Pyro is in the air and it will miss you. Now the mage doesn't have either CDs. Almost all, if not all, of a Rogues utility can be used for both offense and defense.

Warlocks has improved shadow bolt debuff (+20% damage on most casts) and +15% shadow damage and +5% crit from talents
Mages has +6% hit, +6% damage and +10% crit from talents
Also max rank frostbolt is almost 10% less damage compared to max rank shadow bolt
Warlocks also has the highest damage aoe ability in the game
I'd say average warlock damage is higher than fire mage as well but it's harder to compare because of ignite

So, I wanted to ask what you guys think about progression and old content in WoW. Is constant gear progression in these games something you enjoy at this point? Do you still enjoy the gear treadmill and constantly striving to get new and better equipment? How you feel about old content being pointless outside of transmogs, mounts or achievement grinding? Would you appreciate it if old content was updated and brought up to be onpar with your current level cap? I know that timewalking raids and dungeons is a thing, but it hasn't been touched since MoP.

Well, yeah, a lot of WoW's current issues are due to core mechanics just being absolute ass to deal with like azerite grindng and stat squishes they did in previous expansions. Hell, they even have your optimal rotation planned for you these days.

I've been thinking about how you would even start fixing the deliberate gimping to the game's mechanics and start introducing mechanical depth again.

In a nutshell, modern wow game balance is way too overly-managed and moderated. Its like theres invisible walls everywhere. Youre not allowed to progress too fast, not allowed to do too much damage, nothings allowed to do too much damage to you

Because the maximum rep you can grind in a day has been capped, the most amount of damage in a burst you can do is capped, the most amount of damage an enemy player can do to you in a burst is capped. All these caps and limitations were put in place probably by a left wing neon haired retard who never had a thought of good game design, or anything resembling intelligence, enter their brain at any point in their life

Cataclysm was kind of the beggining of all the issues we see today, but honestly that xpac was fun as fuck + the world revamp was absolutely neccessary, since with tbc and wotlk no one hung around azeroth anymore and it was pretty empty.

WoD I would say was a fun expansion, until we realized they ran out of content almost immidietly. Still, up to that point it was okay I guess.

BfA on the other hand just feels like badly rehashed Legion.

tbc certainly improved on a lot of things. but the image is certainly right that it started a lot of bad trends. the day dailies were introduced I died a little inside. they were so insanely boring and yet so profitable and required for some rep grind that you couldn't really avoid them if you actively played the game. stuff like this.

That's actually a concern they haven't addressed to the community yet on how they're going to resolve it. Back when there was no sharding, client netcode and hardware servers were running on had to be optimized to be able to accommodate to massive amounts of players in one area, but after sharding was introduced, they wouldn't care about that anymore and now with the new client they probably have to hack in old netcode bits or who knows what i'm just talking out of my ass here.

i don't know fuck all about neo-wow, but i imagine their sharding solutions are managed by a database that redistributes players to keep a basic bitch performance level across all of their server racks. having one server (blackrock, 2005) queued 24/7 for months, and a low pop server hosted on different boxes fundamentally means your heat management/hardware has a harder life hosting blackrock. distributing that load means you can take advantage of ALL of the hardware, easier to maintain and monitor, and saves on costs and downtime at the end of the month.
but classic wow can't depend on that solution- someone has to ring the gong, someone has to crash the kazzak raid, someone has to run to redridge with 200 horde.
so basically, what you said, they have to nigger rig a solution which accomplishes both things- partition hardware to manage high load situations, create a new database rule to manage it that's unique to classic, and do all of that on their existing servers. or start from scratch and come at it from a different direction

Why drag a healer around when you can just do that alone and get all the exp? At the end of the day the killspeed of the mage is dependant on their dps and mana pool, not their survivability and health pool. I could see Shaman being a solid contributor but that's only when they're not playing "a healer".
On the other hand, if the mage is bad then I suppose they need a healer as a crutch. But that isn't exactly poopsocking.

Because they can help tag, and keep you from dying when you eventually(and you will do this often) underestimate the strength/numbers of ranged mobs etc.
They can help with DPS too, some slows, fear, totems, etc. Here at Rexxar Kwon Do we use the buddy system, no more flying solo.

when i did this for first time in 2005, what we would do is round up literally mob while mounted, priest would tag the oddball solo or duo mobs with wand, i'd round them up using low rank ae to catch aggro if needed, tighten their pack up, then he'd bubble me.
frost nova->flamestrike->coc->ae spam and kite, wand any stragglers, drink and repeat. would clear 15-20 at a time, loot drink, respawn repeat.
you can do the same solo but kill speed on blizzard is like 1/2 of ae spam, and if we had any pvp, we'd sheep the fuckers/fear and finish the pull. what it also let us do is round them up quickly with both players, meaning we could grab much larger packs and clear an acre at once. think of spots like arathi farms, or tanaris pirates, or wpl undeads. we could also use silence and cs to pull casters into the ae. it works just fine

There's nothing stopping you from cock-kiting and spamming AE on your own. Did 50-60 in BRD on Elysium that way. Safety margin and the PvP advantage of having a healer is a big deal though.

Frost (17/0/34 something iirc) is the usual spec for low geared players, ice barrier is needed since mages has like 0 stamina without good gear and you have a lot of survivability and cc possibilities with it as opposed to just straight up dmg
Elemental is for higher geared players for big damage and pew pew
Pom/Pyro is for big oneshot damage every 3min, good for killing flagcarrier in wsg or for trolling people

There is a semi new uo shard that is supposed to be pretty darn good, and H&H reset not that long ago, but for either of those i'd need a buddy and dont feel like spending a lot of time either way.

I don’t know about better, there’s a big sense of meta and needing certain things to be viable on all the servers that’s a bit suffocating. Though people on the wildcard servers have been pretty chill since it’s all RNG anyway. But it really got me even more excited for Classic.

I really enjoy the RNG aspect too. I'm a bit conflicted about classic, as i remember well the amount of time and effort your have to put in to get gear. Which is going to be paramount for the classes i want to play.
It's so time consuming i almost want pay to win, don't tell anyone though.

However if /wowg/ and /wpsg/ is any precedent, you'd be better off with literally anyone else.
Reasons to play with /vg/:

>you are part of the inner clique and know the LC will benefit you
>you are incapable of joining a guild where they wont gkick you for calling everyone a nigger after losing a roll

I know I'm being negative but unless the things listed above are things you 100% want, you are in for a bad time playing with a /vg/ guild. It becomes more reddit than reddit lightning fast, you get a mix of dudes there to jack off, dudes there to long-con you for memes, a few there to take advantage of autists with no social skills, and the biggest demographic: literally underage players.
These issues are independent of eu or na, tho either region will have it worse for some of these things.
