I think it's really overblown, honestly. Smash fans need to chill the fuck out about Fire Emblem. It gets to the point that they get mad anytime FE is talked about in a Direct or some shit, from what I've seen.
Fire Emblem has five separate characters and two echos. Roy is also basically a semi clone of Marth, so it's closer to four and a half characters. It really isn't as bad as a lot of people make it seem.

I actually play as Corrin a lot, but mostly because I feel like the character is unpopular, which I feel bad about since it's a pretty fun character to use, and I actually enjoyed Fates quite a bit, with maybe the exception of Revelation.
Most corrin "mains" dropped them because pin isn't stupid anymore

I wish the Koopalings had a separate slot from BJ. Them being costumes is kind of weird.
I haven't seen that many Corrins since Ultimate came out. They don't seem nearly as broken as in smash 4. Is their counter still objectively overpowered? Also, I haven't seen any good Cloud players at all. They're usually easy K.Os for me.
Corrin is a victim of circumstance. I don't think the character would have gotten nearly as much hate had Roy not been brought back before them. It also didn't help that they were our only Nintendo newcomer.
Chrom still seems like the bigger dickpull "I picked him to win" character, which is fucking annoying because I loved Chrom and vastly prefer him to Marth/Lucina/Roy
I personally play characters that I like from games that I like. I have no clue if they are actually good or not. For example, when ever I play as Pac Man, I use is up air a lot. I don't know if it's any good, I just Like Pac Man World 2 and the move was taken from there.
Corrin's counter was already fixed in 4.
Cloud players have to actually try now with the limit nerf, nair nerf, up air nerf, cross slash nerf, and other various nerfs. He's still in a way better place than bayonetta. She can stay garbage forever

Personally, I care more for gameplay than story, even in rpgs, so that's probably why it didn't bother me so much. If anything I thought it was kind of funny, especially the twist of the final boss.
I love pikmin, one of my favorite series ever since the first launched on GC and I absolutely cannot wrap my mind around playing Olimar in Smash. Same with Megaman and Shulk. All the character I love and wanted to get into smash I can never play as. The only exception I guess is Simon Belmont though.
Play who you want. I like Captain Falcon on basically the same level you like Olimar, and in 4 I was called a tier whore by a Lucina player. Tell the salty people to git gud. Nobody in Ultimate breaks the game like Brawl Meta Knight or Smash 4 Bayonetta did.

I dunno man you kind of have to be thirsty and tryhard to do well with Corrin in this game. Flat out numbers wise you don't get rewarded very well for stuff that's hard to pull off. I'm playing Conquest on an emulator right now and it's probably one of my favorite games of all time. I like Corrin a lot because it's neat to have a vidya MC that just wants to minimize violence wherever possible. Oh fuck I have to leave the thread now because someone mentioned the ending and I'm still 100% unspoiled.
