nothing to play
I am waiting for this to come to PS4 and Switch, senpai.
But I am.
Don't tell me what to do.
because I have been awake for the past 30 hours and now I'm sitting around on Yea Forums unable to sleep
Playing SMT Strange Journey Redux on Citra.
I am, I'm playing Strange Journey Redux, its fun
Zelenin a cute
I'm actually about to try to finish up Vesperia tonight. I've already got 70 hours in it and I've loved it.
If you're not using the Orchestral Overhaul Mod then you're doing it wrong
I just got back from work after having to stay an hour later than I was scheduled.
so I am not in the mood
Why did I buy DQ11 on PS4? The OST is completely fucked
Just got this bad boy, first time too.
Been playing P4G and started the Character Quests in Legendia
I just finished Blacksouls.
Playing FF VIII right now and I always get caught in a loop of getting stuck at a boss, rage quitting and swearing off jrpgs forever, then coming back to beat the boss and proceed until I get stuck at another boss.
I am.
Currently playing Star Ocean 4 and it's actually pretty good, I knew Yea Forums was fucking wrong yet again
make sure to join the hunters guild before you depart, it will save you a lot of trouble.
I’m playing chrono trigger on my iPad pro
Ran out after DQ 11
I can never finish VIII, furthest I got was partway into disc 3 before I got bored, its almost entirely because I spend more timing playing the fucking card game than playing the actual game
I had Squall's ultimate weapon on disc 1 and most others had their's or close to, I had several gamebreaking spells well before I should have had them and all battles were a cakewalk from then on so I just got bored.
how do you get stuck on FFVIII? its very easy to just break the entire game to pieces without realising it
Just picked up Ni No Kuni 2 for a cool $5. I want to hop in but my list is long. I want to replay FF6 again soon too.
Thanks for the tip user.
I'm finishing making my levels in Disgaea 1 and after that I will start on Xenoblade 2.
I didn't know how the junction system worked until disc 3. Then the difficulty spiked up and I didn't have enough high level magic drawn to my characters to boost their stats. I don't want to grind, so I have to rely on strategy rather than cheesing things.
...
makes sense, I experimented with the junction system quite a lot and I learned about item and card refinement early on too, once you know just how powerful you can get from item/card refining, you almost never need to grind for magic ever again.
>1 tent refines into 10 curagas
>everyone has 3500+ health before going to Timburr
>several common cards refine into excellent crafting material and high tier magic
>several common items also refine into decent magic perfect for junctioning
really, take your time with the junction system (and play lots of Triple Triad) and you just piss on the challenge, its awkward too, once you have an idea of how it works, the game simply ceases to be a challenge, because you have to intentionally gimp yourself to find challenge, not knowing how the system works will certainly offer challenge, after that, not really.
doesn't help that the junction tutorials are honestly very frontloaded and hard to digest, especially since the abbreviations are fucking terrible, when I first played, it took me until the end of disc 1 to actually understand how it properly works
Junctioning MAG was actually important even you don't use magic too.
I'm 20 hours into Dragon Quest 8 and I can't decide if it's boring or not. I might be able to push to 40 hours but I doubt I could last all the way to 80 with it. Where exactly does the game end? I see people say it's 40 but here it's sometimes 80+.
What are the best action rpgs of all time?
I like some turn based rpgs. But I guess I just like the interaction of real time attacks and whatnot. It keeps me in the zone.
Beyond Ys VIII and Xenoblade Chronicles 2, what's some stuff I might be able to find on my Switch?
Jrpgs are for virgins, women and faggots. Are you a virgin, a woman or a faggot? Dont tell me its none of the above cause those are the only options.
Sorry, I dont want to play a game where some limp wristed pretty boy andgrogynous faggot with chicks WAY WAY WAY out of his league walking around some faggoty anime world to fight evil dude #120837448593. You need to grow up and be a man at some point user.
>I entered a thread that I didn’t like and I’m really mad how could this happen to me
K whatever fag
Based lawfags
Putting off going to Temple of the Ancients, I guess.
Im not the fag who self inserts as a basedboy to pretend my weak limps could ever actually do anything in a real fight or get a chick wet.
What's the best JRPG that can be played on the PC these days?
The ones that aren't shit ports and actually makes good use of the mouse for once.
Suikoden was on sale but I completely forgot my PS4 can't play it and I'm too fucking lazy to switch to by psfat
Because I recently just finished FF2 and it crippled me.
>JPRGS
>Use mouse
Uhh none of them?
been thinking of giving CT a replay
Pretty much all of them, since the vast majority of good JRPGs are for systems that can be emulated.
Not action based but switch things, pick up Octopath Traveler, it's got a fantastic OST and a lot of heart. It's a good title.
Switch is pretty dry on actual games
Because I just finished DQXI and the game dragged on for too long. I'm burnt out.
>this games music
Had to play on mute
Because I playing through warcraft 3 right now
I'm lvl 30 in devil summoner soul hackers and its the most fun I've had since persona 3.
What is it?
Already played all of them except The Lost Child
I am though.
When can I start raping in that game?
So far Demon's Kingdom is the superior dark souls parody: better fighting mechanic, with timed blocks and you can rape every enemy defeated, too bad isn't translated and the sex scenes feature the same poses.
So none?
That's sad. I guess it's back to emulation then.
SO2 is very expansive.
>can pickpocket
>can cook
>can craft and shit
Somehow, the soundtrack is kind of annoying compared to when I was a kid.
>When can I start raping in that game?
Like 5-10 minutes in.
Glad you could make it, Uther.
what's an underrated jrpg
can be something people missed or something that has flaws but still has something to it
>equip Mischief
>get random items every few seconds
As for the OST, I like it but a lot of the songs are way too short before they loop.
Sen no kiseki
Thanks, I ended running until I reached the witch house.
Why do the japanese still work with rpgmaker vx just move to mv damn it.
MV is a bloated piece of shit.
>Finals week
Thank god. But holy hell this week is gonna blow.
No, it's not...
Uh... At least I have more control over window size and don't have to resort to alt+enter that shit.
But I'm playing KH2 FM and going for the platinum trophy. All that's left now is Terra, getting the point requirement for the Cerberus Paradox Cup, and a fuck ton of Gummi Ship crap.
List some JRPGs with fun, engaging and satisfying gameplay that paces the inevitable story/dialogue/cutscenes nicely, and I will play them.
Chrono cross is still underrated
FFXII
Persona 3/5 which I personally suggest emulating P3P through a CFW switch
SMT Devil Summoner Raidou Kuzunoha
FFTactics war of the lions (patched)
MOTHER 3 if you haven't played it start there
Lunar 2 Eternal Blue
How’s Star Ocean 3 and Star Ocean 4 on PS4?
It’s very long and has a big epilogue. It’s also very boring, the plot won’t get better.
Ys Oath in Felghana, Tales of Graces f, KH2 FM are the Holy Trinity of Action JRPGs.
I gave in and bought Tokyo Xanadu eX+ for $12 despite hearing it’s not good. I just want to play more fast paced action RPG like Ys.
What is the best?
Xenogears
Ff8
Ff12
Wild arms
what's that?
probably one of the Dragon Quest Builders games
I only play H JRPGs. Real sick and tired of No Way Fags in the average jrpgs. The disdain for low T protags increased 10 fold after getting a real gf myself, ironically.
am I supposed to feel overpowered this early in the game? I just got the buggy, but all the enemy skills Ive learned really seem to break the game
granted, beta is OP, but aqualung and matra magic wipe the floor with people
Playing FF7 on switch, Despite playing it half way several times I've never actually played it all the through to completion. figure It might as well at least once.
Should I ?
Gameplay - 12
Package - Xenogears
People usually don’t have those enemy skills at the point you are, try not to abuse those
im sorry but how do i make demons stronger? do i keep fusing them?
Playing Persona 5, dislike the writing/dialogue options and some other stuff but love its style
its also not generic High Fantasy or Future/Steampunk so thats easily a plus
just bought stella glow, been meaning to play it since i hear it recommended everywhere, and i loved final fantasy tactics advance as a kid.
hopefully its good. but for $20, well, i won't really feel cheated anyway.
You probably will like the OST and maybe the story/characters but hate how slow the enemy turns are.
Played everything from Snes/Genesis to PS2 era
Which route did you pick in Der Langrisser?
tough, since allmost all jrpgs gameplay is just "grind mobs to spamm x"
but guess star ocean 3 and 5.
they have a kind of more action oriented combat system while staying at its crpg nature appart from it.
also radiant historia has kind of a good gameplay
But I am. I'm probably going to finish the first episode today and then move on to the next one.
Actually, I'd be glad if someone could help me out with this: should I play episode III's original localised version or the udubbed one? I've read that they stepped up the censorship in the third one and I was going to go with the undub, but I've gotten used to the dubbed voices and would like to have them through to the end. Is the censorship really that bad? Does it involve actually changing plot point or is it just removing blood and things like that? I imagine I could handle it if it's just the latter.
already played
star ocean 5
also the crossbell ark from legend of heroes. its only available with english patch so many people didnt play it yet, but zero/ao are easily one of the best jrpgs that exist
The censorship doesn't alter any plot points, but it's heavy-handed and obvious enough to be distracting. It really harms the impact of one scene in particular.
Also, though there's no harm in trying it, you shouldn't feel obligated to play through all of Xenosaga 2 if you end up disliking it. Barely anything actually happens in 2 because the game spends so much time on flashback sequences and such.
How does your body compare to this one, user? Post a picture for all to see.
If I wanted to play a game that I just press forward and confirm over and over again to beat I would just replay KOTOR
A friend and I had a challenge:
I would platinum 1.5, 2.5, and 2.8
He would unlock all of the (still available) achievements in the Master Chief Collection
We began on the same evening.
That was the most tedious grind I've ever subjected myself to, and I used to play old school maplestory. I wouldn't wish these platinums on my worst enemies pets. The base game is fine, but level grinding, gummi shit and the fucking journal were too much
I still feel really conflicted about 3, but I'm probably going to try to will myself into playing the undub for the better experience. I guess I'll have to get used to the original voiceover though.
Regarding 2, I wouldn't feel right skipping it regardless of the quality. I think I'm just against skipping parts of a series on principle, even in cases when these parts don't hold up to the rest. I've heard 2 is the shortest one anyway, so I'll just bear with it, if it turns out to be worse.
i used to play a lot of them, but i seek games with faster, unscripted gameplay now, and i've really moved away from a lot of story-heavy games in the past 6-7 years. they're still cool, though
Also, just to makes sure. The undub leaves the original translation's text intact, right? Just applies it to the uncensored Japanese version?
Great game, enjoy. If I had a switch, I'd double dip just to play this from the comfyness of my bed
anyone played or started this?
it's super discounted right now and would like to hear from here how it is
I'm currently playing through the whole Ys saga. Chronicles, I and II are already down. Starting to get into Celceta but I'm not really feeling it on Vita. Maybe I'll buy it again on steam, where I have all the other games
I have played every single one that I would care to.
>ants.jpeg
Recently bought Ys origin from the steam sale, which ones should I get from the same series and which ones should I skip? Also any other suggestions to get before the sale ends?
I'm doing something even better
1+2, felgahana and ark
skip the rest
i want to continue my playthrough of nocturne, but i find it really boring for some reason.
I completed P3/P4/P5, IV, IV:A, DDS and Soul Hackers but i cant connect with this one...
Don't force yourself. If you don't like the game, don't play it. Video games tend to create impression for the first time to drag the player in, your game that you're playing right now failed.
what about lacrimosa of dana? I heard the game was good
Ys 8 is pretty good.
I don't get that pic, it's a shop and the opposite of what happens in game. Is it supposed to be funny somehow?
i really dislike newer ys games that play like some sort of tales of game
the combat is not nearly as satisfying as the old ones but you might enjoy it
>Not defeating Midgarsormr and getting Beta at the first encounter, on your first playthrough and with your girlfriend watching
Scrub and Beta as fuck
I'm a virgin woman faggot, does it count?
Listen here little baby. You're gonna get a lot of hurtful and degrading comments, but that ain't what I'm about. Let me just say, you are perfect the way you are. You hear me sugar? PERFECT. Don't ever change. You deserve anything and everything you want. Stay safe for me, baby girl.
>mfw thinking of you hurting
look up the trails in the sky series. its very comfy.
>action rpgs
read his post. he also said he liked some turn based.
Take your own advice
best rpgs of all time would be dark messiah of might and magic and ys, no clue about arpgs for switch though.
also, action rpg doesnt mean no turnbased.
damn, mant best Arpgs of all time
>I'd double dip just to play this from the comfyness of my bed
I purchased X/X-2 just for this reason. I'm autistic and would rather spend my time on my PC playing games I can't play in bed but want to play FF in bed or on the shitter.
>fun, engaging and satisfying gameplay
>FFXII
Is this a joke?
>Persona 3
>not SMT3 and DDS
This is the current state of Yea Forums, everyone
It's the only tales where combat didn't feel like strugle with bad controls.
Is Ar Tonelico good?
It's also extremely cliched, and its combat system is made of stolen ideas from popular jrpgs.
>This is the current state of Yea Forums, everyone
>cherrypicks 1 post of a retard
>suddenly the whole board is this guy
yikes
Wanted to order the new Atelier but Gogift fucked me over with my gift cards so now my money's in limbo for an undecided amount of weeks.
Every community is judged by its lowest.
5/10 its OK
H jrpgs?
>best Arpgs of all time
But thats Diablo 2, user.
I got sucked into it for a bit but couldn't finish. Had some pretty good cutscenes, dialogue wasn't overwhelming, and charging the spirit bomb in battle was oddly satisfying.
Story was pretty unremarkable.
It is very good imo
Kamidori is just the best JRPG. H or not.
You are like tutorial bandit miniboss in jrpg that gets fucked by my starter weapon.
I still need to finish Etrian Odyssey Nexus.
I started on it, but something about it just feels off compared to the previous games.
Just finished FF7. Thinking of picking up 9 or 12. Does 9 use the atrocious ATB system or can it be more compared to FF10?
I'm playing RPGMaker games.
why arent you making a jrpg right now??
Just picked up a copy of RPG Maker 2003 on steam sale recently, actually.
godspeed
it seems like all the best rpg maker games are still made in 03
Still waiting for the death of Square Enix and for the resulting ghost of its past to rise from the ashes of mediocrity as SQUARESOFT once more. Wouldn't that be wonderful?
but I am
Did you play Evenicle?
Well it was cheap and it looked to have enough functionality compared to the newer versions. Still have no idea how to properly balance a JRPG but I guess I'll figure that out.
i have sworn to never try the non-traditional Final Fantasy games, but is FF 13 different from 14 and 15, 11 and whatever. my autism cant handle it being called main IP # instead of like 'Final Fantasy Online 2, 3, 5, etc'
How good is Ni No kuni 2 what would you describe it as, also I have only played FF7 and FF9 how good is 6
I hear the game is bad but the story is amazing
i will still play d2 LoD
how different from other versions of RPG Maker is 2003?
Most of FF games are ATB, at least XIII plays itslef.
I am playing Persona 5 on my PS3.
>non-traditional Final Fantasy games
Thats nonsense, FF was always supposed to be squares more experimental jrpg line. Only 11 and 14 are mmo.
WOLF RPG > RPGmaker *
>Story was unremarkable
>Didn't finish it
Sure
really fucking great, you gotta take it all the side material and all songs (with translated lyrics) too
what would be considered more traditional than FF senpai
if FF13 is not an MMO, what style or direction does it take and is it similar to what FF15 is? what is unique about 13
But I am, playing Digimon Cyber Sleuth Hackers Memory
Me too
Although i have no idea how i got myself on the law alignment currently
taking a break to play a slav rpg
got Precursors off a keysite for a little under 2 euros
loving how you can store stuff on your car and change the tires for fresh ones when they get shot out, it's pure jank bliss
Hoy! Based choice of game, but since you guys are lawfags instead of chaoschads such as myself, I'll have to laugh.
What game is this?
why can attacks miss? that's so dumb
Does this count as a Jrpg?
Just finished persona 1 SEBEC, going to start playing Strange Journey Redux next
What the fuck is wrong with the game's music apart from the small selection of tracks?
You probably fell into the trap of making sensible decisions, which the law choices always are. Don't listen to
Do I dare?
her leg looks like a huge PENIS haha
That "Whatever" quirk was just lazy translation.
legendsoflocalization.com
thats not healthy. why cant you sleep
Whatever.
I havent but my cousin told me he thinks he's near the end and its very generic
I'm playing Stella Glow. Characters are either broken or awful, there's very little in between.
On the positive side, there's Lisette, Popo, Hilda, Nonoka, and post-update Alto. Maybe Rusty. On the negative side, there's literally everyone else. Special shoutout to my man Keith who has all the agility of a crippled turtle and the incredible ability to hit a stationary target from five inches away.
Dragon Quest Builders
>radiant historia
If I were to get that, should I get the remaster or original?
Because I just got three months of Xbone game pass, and there aren’t any worthwhile jrpgs in there. Gonna play Alien Isolation, Prey, etc
How do you mod a PS4 game?
Why is everyone(including me) playing redux?
How far are you in and have any tips, because I beat SMT IV/IV:A/Nocturne and DeSu1/2, but redux is really kicking my ass.
One attack of an encounter takes like 40 to 60% of my health depending on who it attacked it.
remaster.
looks better and has extra content
I love my wife Iris!
Recommend me some PC/PS4 jrpg that are on sale right now
Does Yakuza counts as jrpg
The remaster sucks balls. They ruined the art direction, made the game more grindy to incentivize DLC purchases, and added a Marie character with a shitty extra arc in typical Atlus fashion.
I can't stand the grind.
How would a chart like this look with JRPGs?
I guess the twin purist category would be Dragon Quest V or something similar.
conflicting answers but thanks
But I am.
It wasn't released that long ago, and i rarely end up playing games around launch
I'm currently in sector Eridanus. I guess the biggest tip is always to pay attention to alignments so that your squad can fuck over most encounters in 1-2 turns. Other than that if defense is your problem i guess you should grab as much forma as you can to unlock better gear at the lab
The first one is pretty damn good, but I didn't finish the second one because my PS2 died and I never bothered to emulate the game. It is such a shame that they never ported the series to PC, because this kind of game sells well on Steam.
dq11
This game is on sale on Steam, should I buy it? Looks pretty comfy.
How's the Switch version, resolution and framerate wise? 720p/30? As long as it's at least that much docked I'm happy.
>Chrono Cross
Based. To the user asking, if you place a lot of value on art style, atmosphere, or music, you will love it. Battle system is unique too, and has some nice systems that encourage you not to grind heavily and let you flee from any battle in the game (even bosses).
This user is right on the money.
I played Xenogears for the first time a few months ago and loved it. It's slow at first but stick with it.
Shit user, are you me? I'm at the Song of Nephilim, just got to the second tower and the enemies here are pretty damn strong. How much longer do I have?
Just ordered pic related so now I have the whole trilogy on deck, hopefully III is as good as its made out to be.
anarchy is probably train simulator
There's an uncensored translated version of Xenosaga III, you know.
Persona 5, Nioh, one of the Yakuzas.
>he isn't creative enough to utilize the gambit system to its fullest extent
I feel sorry for you
who won
What is a good jrpg that I might have missed over the years ?
Legend of Legaia be moved to Structure Purist Mechanics Neutral
Started playing Resonance of Fate on the pc it is pretty fun so far
Don't.
I'm thinking about buying Dragon Warrior VII for Ps1.
Is it any good? Everyone seems to hate it b/c it's "basic" but that doesn't really bother me.
>How much longer do I have?
Not much at all. I literally just beat the game an hour ago. You have the third tower in Nephilim, which is mostly just a puzzle and then one more dungeon straight after that. The enemies there are tougher, but I spent some time just grinding tech points after Nephilim, so I pretty much breezed through it.
Also, I just booted up Episode II. Holy shit, Shion's new model looks terrible.
Please tell me more, if that's true. I came upon this a while ago:
psxplanet.ru
But it seemed kind of shifty, that some russian forum would be the only place on the internet to host something like this, while the version doesn't really get mentioned anywhere else, from what I've seen.
VII on PS1 is really clunky and slow. 3DS version is really the only right way to play the game now imo.
Have you played the other DQ games? V is my favorite, but VIII, IV, III, and IX are all pretty good as well.
i only have an xbox
I'm so sorry for you
I played IV and V on DS and VIII but the only thing I have nowadays is a PS2 slim so I was just looking for an rpg I haven't played.
epforums.org
Technically, the author doesn't want people handing direct links, but who's telling?
Disc 1: mediafire.com
Disc 2: mediafire.com
Because I was a bit burned out on games atm. Going to try again tonight, but it will be something short like Dragon Warrior
nigga, use the widescreen hack
holy based
I fucking love you, user.
Guys I haven't played a FF since 7 and I've been wanting to get it for Switch but now that 9,10, and 12 are on there I'm wondering if I should get one of those instead?
The prices aren't an issue it's more that I lose interest in games pretty easily now and don't want end up with dozens of games unfinished so I'm trying to be selective.
if you cant bear old jrpg's pace then go for an emulator with 1000x speedup
Full disclosure - I didn't like the game very much. But I feel like I could at least share the best version of it to play in English.
Never played Xenosaga, i'm grabbing this. I guess i should look for undub isos of 1 and 2?
Cool, didn't think I was that close!
Any tips outside of grinding? I haven't used AGWS once and my party right now is Shion/KOS-MOS/chaos. All my characters seem to be stuck at slvl2 no matter how many skills I extract so I'm not too sure what to do there.
Ah, then I suppose DQVII is your only choice. Still, I'd look into other franchises. Xenosaga seems neat so far if you're more into the story side of things. Also all of the SMT games for PS2 are fantastic, especially Nocturne. There really isn't any game quite like it in terms of atmosphere.
It's not pace necessarily. I was playing I Am Setsuna recently and enjoying it up till getting the airship and then lost interest. I don't know how FF9,10,12 compare, but I'm sure if I got 7 I'd play it all the way through since I only did it once when I used to have it on PS.
I honestly don't know what to play. Unlike people who say they have nothing to play, I have too many things to play and honestly don't know where to start.
The last 2 RPGs I finished (actually replayed, but who cares) were Chrono Trigger and Chocobo Dungeon I don't know what to try next. Moonligter, Strange Journey Redux, Enter the Gungeon or Child of Light.
I’m playing my first Ys game. Does Adol ever fuck?
Yes during the credits of every game
Up to fighting Elly in Gears, I'm not really feeling it. Does it get better?
I'm playing Strange Journey Redux and I'm realizing that I don't remember half the shit from the original release. I completely forgot that Demon Sources, Forma and the entirety of Fornax existed.
Story-wise? Yes. Gameplay-wise? Never.
I haven't used AGWS either, outside of the very beginning of the game. They seem completely inferior to properly prepared characters. You may want to switch out chaos for Junior, since a couple of the bosses from here on out can make themselves immune to ether attacks. Junior was my main damage dealer - equipped him with Bravesoul and at times he could pull off doing over 3K damage in a sungle turn. Skills don't seem very useful either in my opinion and you're basically done with the game, so there's no point in getting hung up on them - just equip your support with the Angel Ring for halved EP consumption and you're set.
adol is adventuresexual, he will die a virgin.
Most MegaTen games are worth playing over DDS, P3-5 included.
Nah, he's adventuresexual through and through.
I'm thinking of emulating either Rogue Galaxy or Xenosaga. Help me choose.
I mean, to be honest, Fornax is basically nothing. There's that whole shitshow with Jimmy and Cap'n Jack but that's basically all that happens.
Yeah, but I still feel dumb for forgetting about it. I spent the whole game thinking I'd go straight from Eridanus to Grus and the thought that there would be a sector F between E and G never even crossed my mind.
Im playing Soul Hackers as my first SMT game. How is it compared to the others? Ok representative, better, or worse?
>Yea Forums tells me game is shit
>buy game
>it's shit
Still having fun tho
its different from the others i listed, if you like first person dungeon crawlers, i think youll like it.
for more info, check pic related
I was playing Radiant Histroia but the final boss is a huge health sponge, and the combat got really stale towards the end.
Not him, and I've only played a little bit of Soul Hackers because I was a bit burned out on first person dungeon crawlers when I tried it, but from what I played it seemed pretty inline with SMT1 and 2 mechanically, with how you have a party member you always have with you and then you have other slots for Demons making up a party of 6, and the dungeon crawling itself is like those two games as well, along with Demon negotiation and fusion being in there like it is in mainline games. The most distinct thing about it mechanically is the loyalty system which is only in Devil Summoner games, as far as I know. The setting is pretty different from mainline SMT though, and there's a lot more fights with other devil summoners than there would be in a mainline SMT game. It's generally considered a good game though, and a decent amount of people consider it they're favorite MegaTen, so I'd say it's a fine place to start.
Thanks for the insight!
trying to plat that game.
The final boss on Godly difficulty is a pain in the ass but the game gives you a new "difficulty" that reduces enemy HP by like 75% and like x10 EXP or some absurd shit like that.
What should I play on my PSP, Yea Forums, Ys Seven, Star Ocean, or Tales of Phantasia?
Phantasia
Def Phantasia
Serious answer? I don't find turn-based gameplay to be engaging at all, I could never get into any RPG since I was a kid.
If someone out there can enlighten me on the way to appreciate it more, then be my guest.
It's chill as fuck and you can play it for hours without getting carpal tunnel.
Have you tried an ATB system like FF or the rolling HP of Earthbound?
Dunno, I only listen to the soundtracks
should i play smt 4 or strange journey?
Have you played a smt game before?
That could be a nice way to think about it, kinda like a game of chess.
No and no, but I heard about Earthbound's HP system requiring you to act on your feet with healing items to avoided killing blows, so that seemed like an interesting quirk. Don't know a thing about the ABT stuff though
>I guess i should look for undub isos of 1 and 2?
They exist, but if you want them for the lack of censorship rather than original voice acting, then don't bother. The first two games were barely censored, wheras the third one removes all traces of blood and basically cuts a pretty vital scene. The first game in particular is actually more graphic than the Japanese version in one scene.
The ATB (active time battle) system is essentially turns are given based on a speed stat. It's tricky to explain so skip to 1:20 and this video and pay attention to the lower half of the screen.

When a character's atb bar is filled they can act, but casting spells and using more powerful commands take time to activate, so it's a lot about planning your actions ahead of time.
does the uncensored version of 3 linked here have japanese voices? if yes, i will play 1 and 2 undub. i don't want to swap from english voices to japanese.
The linked version is uncensored with English voice acting. There is also an uncensored undub version, which has Japanese vocie acting. 1 & 2 have undubs as well, but only get them if you want original voices, because the censorship is barely an issue, as opposed to how it is with 3. If you don't care for the Japanese voice acting, then play 1 & 2's American/European versions and then the uncensored English version of 3 linked here.
Huh, that looks pretty neat, like it adds another layer of strategy in there.
definitely looks engaging, might try picking up FF6 then.
Heaven difficulty is just there to minmax and make you have a powertrip, it's easier than normal and honestly just a waste of time, if you beat God there's nothing else to the game.
Most turn based systems are unengaging since they're pretty barebones, most of the times they end up being slow too.
If you're not the kind of guy who likes to micromanage and plan ahead though, even the better turn based systems might end up being not much better, it's just a matter of tastes at the end of the day.
I myself only accept turn based systems for RPGs, but I have to say most turn based systems are just as bad as action based ones.
Of course, you can try the bastardizations like ATB or RTwP, but they're honestly just an amalgamation of the worst of both worlds.
oh so it's english voices, i automatically assumed it would have japanese voices. anyway thanks, i will play dub version then.
I'm playing secret of mana I'm in the goblin dungeon
Was the first Ni No Kuni released on PC? Can't find any torrent for it.
nope. ps3/ds only.
The first game (or the expanded version anyway) was only released on PS3, but you can emulate it fairly easily AFAIK
They are too long.
I’ve started playing P5, not as into it as P3. Also wont stay in he thread after posting as some arse always has to post spoilers to games
Redux is my first SMT. I have played Persona 5 though, so I got the gist of combat before starting. But yeah, enemies seem to kick my shit in at the start of every sector and one wrong move will wipe my party. By the end of each sector, I'm stomping everything though, so I guess it's balanced in a weird way. Up to sector E and the only part I truly struggled with was Asura, but I'm 100% convinced he's a meme fight so I just password summoned a demon that reflects and nulls all his attacks.
I'm at work
Cocksucker. I started yesterday.
That is Builders, not 11.
>you can try the bastardizations like ATB or RTwP, but they're honestly just an amalgamation of the worst of both worlds.
Interesting point, and could definitely be true on my end as well, but it's honestly been so long since I actually tried an RPG that I might as well try something like this.
Thank you anons for all the input, by the way.
I'm replaying Persona 5 though
>but I'm 100% convinced he's a meme fight so I just password summoned a demon that reflects and nulls all his attacks.
Sasuga, Son of Man.
I think doppleganger is good against him since that one reflects phys.
I got a lot of use out of dopple.
your pic reminds me, for some reason people think that having positioning and movement in-battle makes a system better, but that is not always the case. I'll take a fast&responsive battle system without changing positions over a clunky one with positioning.
Like going from SFC RS1 (which does it wrong) to RS2 (no in-battle formation changes, but much much better). The former does have switching positions during battles but in the most nightmarish, clunky fashion conceivable.
what game?
Can i run RPCS3 on my i5 7200u laptop? Only have a Xbone and would love to play Persona 5.
the "trick" to beating Asura is just to desummon all your demons, get raged, and unga bunga him forever
I don't see why not, after the shaders are compiled it should run pretty well.
The problem with ATB is that, by nature, it oversimplifies combat because there's no way you can have actual depth or strategy when you're on a real time limit.
RPGs are all about selecting the best options you have while gauging your current problems, in order to do that you need to take your time, ATB doesn't let you do that so in order to not be a completely unplayable clusterfuck it simplifies combat to the bare minimum.
In the vast majority of cases, that results into mindless spam and combat that feels even worse than busywork, Square games also add unnecessarily long animations because it's the only thing they can do to convince you the "gameplay" is good, which makes the game also slower than the average turn based system on top of it all, then there's the rare game like Last Ranker that actually simplifies combat in a decent way by turning it into a rhythm game with RPS elements and makes it work, but again, 99% of ATB games are trash.
RTwP has the same problem but the fact that it lets you play like an RTS does make it a bit better than ATB for the sole virtue that it allows some degree of depth to it all, and a more simulation oriented kind of gameplay, which is entertaining in its own right and a more coherent choice than ATB, which stands on very shakey grounds of being too abstract but at the same time not enough abstract to work well on top of the other problems.
Most people think that more mechanics=better games, but what matters is how you implement those mechanics.
It's alway good to have wide array of choices and more mechanical depth, but only when it ends up mattering, RS1 tried and failed to implement a somewhat realistic formation system with knockbacks to attacks and active position switching but it ended up crude, clunky and barely relevant, with RS2 they successfully reworked that by giving formation inherent bonuses on top of the original positioning factors.
>The problem with ATB is that, by nature, it oversimplifies combat because there's no way you can have actual depth or strategy when you're on a real time limit.
This is complete and utter bullshit.
Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song on the PS2, it's the remake of the original RS1 for the SNES.
>This is complete and utter bullshit.
Except it's completely true, FF games are the testament to that.
seems nice, added to the list.
I miss old Squaresoft bros
>FFX-2
>FFX-2
>Depth
It's not a casual friendly game though, give it a try since it's a SaGa game and all that but don't expect it to be like other JRPGs, they're game made for a very specific audience.
Yeah, autistic pedants.
Whatever you say buddy.
It's true, though. Wasn't that the SaGa game where someone had to make a ten-part video just to go over its bizarre mechanics? I remember something like that being posted on GameFAQs back in the day.
yeah agree. I really hate it when a RPG /SRPG etc. battle system has unreal amounts of pointless moving back and forth, whether it is Baldur's Gate, Ultima 4 or FFT. People often hate on JRPG combatants just standing in place but I like how it puts focus on the actions that matter.
lol what a simpleton.
>lol what a simpleton.
I'm sorry I like treating video games as a hobby and not a spergy research project. Go back to GameFAQs, poindexter, before I steal your lunch money.
I'm still mad that never came out on the vita
it is the perfect handheld rpg
I don't know, I don't follow Youtube E-celebs or anything and there's basically no western community outside of isolated hubs here and there.
The games are mechanically complex, some entries extremely so, because they're specifically made for people who like mechanically complex games, that's why it's a core series, it's made for a very, very specific audience who likes a very specific kind of game design, there's nothing really wrong with that either, you might like a cinematic game like FF or a lighthearted, easy going RPG like DQ, some people don't.
That's why I warned user about that, I love the series, but I'm very well aware it's not for everyone, for better or worse.
excuse me what? I think you have many misconceptions about the series. Except maybe the batshit crazy Unlimited SaGa and arguably MS, those are perfectly down-to-earth games.
It wasn't an e-celeb. It was some GameFAQs user or something who got tired of people asking the same questions about some Saga game. I think it was Minstrel Song, IIRC.
Not many good ones these days. Last ones i enjoyed are the original NNK and then DQ XI. Nothing really in between those two. There are no words to descrive how dissapointed i was on NNK2. Guess the direct influence of Ghibli is not something that can be copied easily.
FF is been trash since the PS3 (some would say since late PS2 even) and the same thing can be said about games like Star Ocean. 4 was just terrible in every sense. Eternal Sonata was nothing more than ok. Ys looks terrible and Persona games have always bored me. To top that KH3 was a royal let down. I guess i could re play one of my older ones but honestly if i wanted to play a japanese game now i would finish Automata.
>JRPG
about half way through nocturne and stopped for no reason
Unlimited SaGa is peak ludo.
The only down to earth games in the series are the GB trilogy and SNES RS1, and even there it's kind of pushing it for RS1 since it was the game where things began to go weird.
Even RS3, where they played it very safe was a lot different from the other games of its time, not just because it also reworked previous established mechanics like BR into the proto ecology system that was later fully realized with the PS2 games, it just has a lot of weird stuff like a full, alternate combat system (a prototype of TLR no less), weird mechanical design like the Greed system or the various Economy/RTS sim minigames that look like Uncharted Waters submechanics that lost their way home and stopped by a Square game while drunk, weird characters and weird quests too.
People tend to vastely exaggerate the extent of mechanics in these games and falsely call them incomprehensible and random, but they're still far off the average standard, even something relatively grounded like Frontier is, and games like Unlimited are just the dark side of the moon to people, even to most fans of the series.
I was planning to get some gaymes this sale
Is Ni No Kuni 2 worth it? I don't care if it is too easy
Is Nioh worth it? I like Souls but I don't get autistic if it doesnt play 100% like Souls
Do you think the Dragon Quest XI for switch update will launch on PC someday? Should I wait for it?
Ni no Kuni 2's fun.
I'm a brainlet and don't know how to emulate
However I wanna emulate ps2, ds, 3ds PS3, Wii, wiiu and gamecube games
Just don't.
I've sunk hours into many final fantasy games. This one made me feel like all my time was wasted.
It's impossible to get emotionally attached to any of the characters, the world is weird without invoking curiosity and the story is bland.
>Is Ni No Kuni 2 worth it?
No.
You fucker!
>Asura
He is a bitch, I never got people's issue with her
I only needed those summons for Meme Aleph
i dropped ni no kuni 2 because i found the combat to be dogshit as far as action rpgs go. they released some harder difficulty modes later though so i don't know if those fixed it somewhat.
at least that asshole has good taste in tohous
are games actually playable on Citra yet?
I love Squall!!
Yes
Unless your pc sucks
I guess strange journey if you want something a little different, but I personally think 4 is a bit more fun to play
I got it for 3 bucks, my only problem is its absurd size
It's better than VIII, II, and XV.
Great suggestion, I was just considering playing some Mother 3.
This game is seriously blowing me away.
I know it's not technically a JRPG, but Deltarune.
Tried xenadu EX
Drop it in about 30-40 minutes. Waiting for ShB and Royal.
If you knew it why did you bother posting that trash
This.
She saved the thread from 404
>she
Way to samefag, tranny
Rance 6 is way better dude.
Itching to play a JRPG
Do I get Dragon Quest 11 or Trails of Cold Steel?
Literally just download the games, and download and run the emulators, user. If there's some issue with the games, google it or fiddle with the settings until something works.
DQXI for sure.
Playing Tales of Vesperia on PC. Can't wait for it to end. Characters, dialogue, and story are so bad. The only thing that keeps me going is the battle system, which is fun.
>Trails of Cold Steel
Haha...
if you can wait until the switch release of DQXI
I feel like I remember anons shilling it for world building or something. Art style is mad generic though
nothing they're brainlets
Have you tried labyrinth of touhou 1 and 2? Those really are the only games with good ATB.
Never trust those anons, world building is just "talk to npcs for hours for pointless details"
Are there gonna be any big differences?
I own a PS4 and Switch, don't mind waiting if it's gonna be really different
Those were Skyfags, Cold Steel is much more streamlined and fast-paced. It has Xenogears as an influence as well, if you're into that.
If you have to choose between Trails and something else, always choose Trails.
I've been playing FFVI Advance and it's pretty damn good. Got to the World of Ruin last night. This isn't my first time playing it but I've never really given it a fair shake as I would always get lost or stuck when I was younger.
I strongly dislike how I have to board the airship to switch party members and can't just do it at a save point. I also hate how you can deprive yourself of good loot by hitting a fucking switch too early in some dungeons, permanently closing you off from accessing it. That's shitty game design in my opinion and encourages save scumming (something I'm trying to avoid).
>It has Xenogears as an influence as well, if you're into that.
Now that's just an insult to Xenogears. What the fuck, user?
Why are you getting stuck? Are you over-leveling? Not properly junctioning or refining magic?
>t. Skyfag
Trails is hot garbage, and Coldsteel even moreso.
Baten Kaitos
>Japanese voice acting
>Tons of QoL fixes (text speed, dash, bell)
>Party Follows (this is the main reason I'm waiting)
>2D Classic version of game bullt-in
>Includes 3DS quests where you go to past game areas
>Orchestral music
>Marriage System
>Fleshed out relationships with everyone
Because they never made a sequel to The Legend of Dragoon.
Last I checked, Xenogears didn't devolve into a trashy harem JRPG with full of high school kids.
Thank god for that.
I still can dream.
games like monster hunter 4u and generations even work online (with other emu users) and have their own discords for that
Yes, instead it devolved into a visual novel with tantalising scenes of areas that you could've played, and with a godforsakenly slow text scrawl. Cold Steel at least has the decency to give you finished games.
I need some info on this game.
Currently playing Xenogears and I'm 90% through, but I really had to drag myself through it after 30 or so hours.
The combat was so damn interesting at first, until I realized that it's really only viable to spam the very same attack so the whole combo input string thing ended up as a meme.
Gear battles were also really cool at first but quickly lost my interest, to the point where they became just obnoxious to get through, in my opinion.
How do the Xenosaga games fare in these aspects? What about the story and its pacing, is it similar to Xenogears? More character driven, more philosophical or maybe less?
>How do the Xenosaga games fare in these aspects?
Combat only really gets bearable by Xenosaga 3, Xenosaga 2 is unironically even more of a movie than Xenogears.
>What about the story and its pacing
Dreadful until Xenosaga 3 where it gets more or less alright.
>More character driven, more philosophical or maybe less?
It's the usual Takahashi shlock with cool mecha stuff here and there, outside of again, Xenosaga 2 which is the lowest point.
Doesn't sound very appealing.
Guess I'll just play Chrono Cross or Dark Cloud instead.
I'm the other user whose just about done with the first game and the battle system is a lot like Xenogears. There are changes so that you're not gonna be doing the exact same attacks over and over, but you still need to do similar "deathblow-like" attacks most of the time, and the animations are a little longer meaning the battles tend to be slower.
I know the other 2 games have different systems so I can't comment on those. Apparently II's is even slower but I hear III's isn't bad.
As for story, it is similar. More of a slowburn but it seems a little more character-driven. All the party members seem like they'll end up having interesting backstories like Fei did.
Chrono Cross is great too. Some of the best music and art in vidya imo.
I never could get into JRPGs. The only ones I really liked were the Paper Mario series and Final Fantasy 7. Then again, there aren't really many others that I've given any real attention to.
Recommend me a JRPG. Doesn't have to be modern.
Does Dragon's Dogma count as a JRPG?
I find them tedious and tiring to play. I wish i could love to play them again.
Try Mother 3 if you want something laid back.
Try smt:nocturne if you want something interesting
Try Super Mario RPG or Secret of Mana if you never got to try those.
Really wished namco bandai remastered this game
FF12 literally plays itself
My joycons are fucked.
>I spend more timing playing the fucking card game than playing the actual game
Happens
Disgaea and SaGa, any of them is good.
>Trade Rule DIRECT has spread throughout the region
Well fuck you, too, Card Queen.
Fun FFVIII fact:Seifer's stupid gunblade pose is because Laguna did it in a crappy movie.
WHY IS THE PORT OF 13-2 and Lightning returns so bad??? I get 60 fps then 20.
Neat
>Incidentally, they talk about hot dogs in the English version, but in the original Japanese script they talk about pan: Japanese-style breads that usually have filling inside.
EAT YOUR HAMBURGERS APOLLO!
I have never finished FF, and only played it back when I knew but a bit of english, but Squall is sounding like a dick.
oh well
and Seifer's dream to be the sorceress's kniht is from Laguna's movie
and Squall saves girl in Timber because Laguna saved another one there 17 years ago
and Moomba say Laguna Laguna on Squall because Laguna is his father
and there are statue of laguna because of laguna
and there are some keys that laguna drops 17 years ago, you can find them in present time
and julia sing "eyes on me" because of laguna
and man in FH talks about him
and timber maniacs and stuff, and this game is about Laguna, who depeloping as character, and we see him and his whole life
Do you think they'll add them to the other versions down the line?
Like a rerelease or a paid update like World of Final Fantasy Maxima?
I can't be arsed to switch to my alt account on Steam.
should i wait for builder 2?
builder1 is ok actually, you can play it
Since we're talking emulation, what should I play next? Just finished DMC 1.
DMC 3 of course
I'm 12 hours into Trails of Cold Steel, but I'm not really enjoying it. Might just drop it.
Onimusha
DMC3 doesn't emulate well
I was playing grandia 2, but I got stuck on fighting some insanely strong enemy outside of the final dungeon. haven't been bothered to go back since I don't think you can exit the final dungeon and I don't wanna grind either.
why do you have manakhemia 1-2 but no atelier iris. iris1 is very good, more than every atelier after ps2
p4 is only good on vita
dot hack is very good, like 12/10
grim grimoire is ok
kingdom hearts 2 is good
mgs ofc
>more than every atelier after ps2
pffft
Give me jprg with most skills, attributes, abilities, perks, you name it. A game where i can eugenic my characters into perfection.
Elona +
dunno. maybe somethinig like Nocturne. but still, i think you taking more about something like Elder Scrolls games, not jRPG
Unlimited SaGa
>460836362
Disgaea
Im currently at the Song of Nephilim in Xenosaga episode 1 and was surprised to see how hard it is. JRPGs are usually more on the easier side but not this, a lot of the bosses are quite tough and do insane damage. Besides they can boost just like you do and wreck you hard.
>Uses Fallen Earth two times in row
Learn 2 boost better and the game becomes easy.
I was playing one but DQ8 is pretty uninteresting. Lost interest when the game made me think it was over for the 3rd or 4th time only to prolong the suffering.
I hear I am actually very close this time though so maybe I will go back and finish it just to say I did.
What JRPG would allow a mouse you retard? They are so brain dead simple it makes no sense to use anything but a controller. Only WRPGs can make use of a mouse properly.
They lost the fucking source code. This game is lost to time.
