USFIV Juri and Baiken are both pretty playable, Angel is impossible to play and there are way better waifus in KOF, Shiki doesn't look like she'll be joining this roster, she's pretty straight forward

Playing others and improving is the appeal, at least to me. I overlooked the genre outside of casual arcade play through the 90s but got into it around '99. Once I got into it it was really fun to beat better players, get beaten, then go back to the drawing board to train/change my strategy. I just recently started going to fight nights at a nearby game shop and usually have a game night dedicated to fighting games where my buddies come over and we all play.

It'll always be a niche genre, or one that struggles to really keep on lots of players. You've got to basically love the grind and I do. Every loss just makes me want to come back and decimate that person, hoping they'll come back and be better too.

Jack-o does not "pull stuff off", she is the ultimate "you fucked up" kind of character. She capitalizes on a passive enemy or an opponent who makes too many wrong decisions. She's easy execution and doesn't play like any other character, so not really recommended if you want to learn the game. Her gameplan and "universal" controls don't match the others.
If you want straightforward gameplan and easy execution along with Jack-o's pressure, just do Ky, Raven, or possibly May.

As far as personality/story goes I don't hate nor dislike him, but he's the image of this thread's subject. Especially the game he comes from. People bitch and bother SNK for them that you'd think that there would be nothing, but Rocks out there in his every playable appearance, and MotW would have like a million active players, but that's not the truth now, ain't it? They get asked so much for it that Oda, the current head producer/game director at SNK, says they'll get to it eventually and even one time when he was asked for a released date he just said there's no current plans for it and broke out laughing, so much so that the guy that was basically his creator is asked about it constantly whenever he posts a picture of 3D models he even clearly states they are only for practice and people still take it as a hint of something to come (it never is).

A more grounded game would be UNIST. They're both very seyplay and pressure heavy though, sometimes you'll have to hold a blockstring for 8 seconds. Both games have strong defensive options to balance things out. Imo UNIST is an easier game to stary with, but you can play either first, depends which one you think is cooler.

They're both about equal with playerbases, they both have good tutorials, pick whichever one you like more tbqhwyf
