I thought about it today. I remember hearing Knights could solo Thor's volcano and Lord Knights could solo Odin's Temple if properly prepared, I always wanted to try it but I never get far enough for it.

I'm always thinking or talking about RO
pic of last time I played

Attached: screenChaos018.jpg (1600x900, 236K)

i really wished they fully fleshed out the mobile version for pc or something.
There's obviously a demand for this game to be on a larger platform but the developers are so fucken incompetent

Attached: big-version-780x439.jpg (780x439, 110K)

Renewal just doesn't feel the same with all the stupid gimmicks and P2W store.

I left a bump limit thread on ragnarok open for a week just to relive the memories, user.

Is there anything even remotely close to RO?
Do I seriously have to play jank ass TOS?

the only one that is popular anymore is the mobile game

>mobile

it's pretty faithful recreation of the game on mobile devices but the stanima limit is fucken bullshit and the fact that the game has so much potential to be actually good if they just took all the models and maps and just make a 1:1 recreation of the orignal game pisses me off too much to recommend to people

RO was a perfect storm, there's nothing that compares.

Attached: RagnarokOnlinePoringMouse.jpg (500x419, 31K)

>it's pretty faithful recreation of the game
Except that there's literally a bot integrated into the game and a heavy P2W store.

> bot integrated into the game and a heavy P2W store.

idk that sounds pretty faithful to me

Attached: 1367758978936.png (412x416, 46K)

Both of these problems only became a real issue in renewal. Pre had no store and botting was a problem, but not nearly as much as now, last time I played on iRO about 9/10 players you encountered on the fields were bots.

Play Renewal! It's fun!

Yeah I got a phone emulator to play it but I didnt like anything apart from the art style.

the only thing i remember from ragnarok was being a rogue and tagging the screen. and those japanese straw hats

Isn't this just the Eternal Love shit? It looks identical to it.

As a private server developer my #1 fetish is for the source code of those remakes to leak. I want to usher us into a new age of Ragnarok prosperity with an engine not from 18 years ago.

I want to see how much we can speed this game up without breaking, like my old server.

Attached: 1515201726028.jpg (714x1000, 157K)

I'm literally listening to RO's ost right now
I miss the good old days

me too buddy
every christmas i listen to the christmas music from ro, it feels more like the holidays than real christmas music to me

I once leveled a dagger sin to lvl 99 in toy fac 2. Good times.

The only RO remake that I would endorse right now is the VR fanmade one that's never going to be released.

Literally can't think about Ragnarok without thinking of Temp it Up and subsequently thinking of PPGD Battle in Megaville made on Flash 2.

I was listening to the some remixes of the songs just yesterday. I really really miss this game and the friends I had on it. Playing WoE twice a week was one of the greatest thing I was part of in my adolescence.

was Ragnarok pre-Renewal the single most soulful MMORPG in history? even more than vanilla WoW

Was it the only game to ever do magic and spell casting right? I think so. Apart from some one or the other game like Dark Messiah, it truly was ahead of its time.

It has the tighest, most balanced mechanics of any game I've ever played. On top of that it was 100% organic too, it actually felt like monster spawns were naturally placed and not there just because it was the next part of progression.

On top of it all, Ragnarok features the weakest player characters compared to enemies of any game I've ever played. It punishes you for dying and reward you for being properly risky and daring.

Attached: Ragnarok world map.jpg (2416x3732, 1.91M)

It forced you to interact with people and I love it for that. All modern mmos with their streamlined convenience systems really ruin that aspect. Ragnarok being more of a dungeon crawler at heart probably helped to shape a lot of the systems that people remember so dearly.
No breadcrumb/ mainplotline to follow - just go out there and explore the world however you like! Can we have this sort of thing back, please?

Post the lore screenshots.

Trolling on EssenceRO was a prime period of my life.

Quality of life improvements killed MMOs.

>Can we have this sort of thing back, please?
There isn't enough people that genuinely want this to sustain a game. The truth is that people just want to play a single player JRPG disguised as MMOs and have become too used to eating shit in the form of gacha and P2W.

>No breadcrumb/ mainplotline to follow - just go out there and explore the world however you like!
People don't want this now either. Modern gamers can't go without handholding.

Just play the mobile version

>pre had no renewal
Ask how can I tell you're a renewal baby.

Took them long enough to shut down that travesty.

iRO itself is okay. I mean, Renewal sucks and fucked up some of the best parts of the game but it was necessary in order to keep the game alive. Compared to other MMOs it's still good but that's a very shitty metric to compare anything.

The iRO servers themselves are beyond saving, though. They've been up for almost two decades and have been merged with several other servers, including from other regions that had completely incompatible business models. It has an economy that can only be described as FUBAR. Nothing could ever hope to salvage it but it's too large to shut down. In a sense it's almost like the real world's economy.

If only we could get our hands on the ragexe.exe compiling source code, private servers modders could make anything our hearts wanted with the game. No more limitations on anything, true freedom to redesign the game as we wanted.

Attached: 1461763082334.jpg (833x688, 132K)

I wrote a blog post about it some years ago concerning this but the tl;dr:

Old-school MMO:

>No hand holding
>80% of the content is not doable solo
>Some classes require a party to be fully utilized
>Possibility to create class builds by using different stats and skill points
>Sparse use or no use of fast travel
>Level cap doesn't give anything special
>Face-to-face trading, require interacting with other players

New MMO:

>Constant hand holding for everything
>Achievement for not breaking your spine during first two minutes of the game
>80% of the content is doable alone
>Homogenization and lockdown of classes
>Huge rewards for hitting level cap and only then does the game start (usually PvP/GvG)
>Faceless auction houses that lead to no skills with bartering or interacting with other players

Good times

we have to go back

Attached: rovalkyrie-prontera2.jpg (590x443, 201K)

You could order CDs with the game's installer back then. I got the game out of nowhere because my dad used to work at the postal office and by that time, they could just pick up shit that couldn't be delivered because of wrong addresses and all that. I did not know what to expect and was completely blown away by it. I did not know that MMOs were even a thing.

stay far away from ToS

Same. Feels weird the amount I think about this game.

The greatest thing about RO was that it shoved you into this world and didn't tell you how to do anything past the tutorial. In a way the game forced you to interact with other people if you wanted to advance. The fact you could create a guild with just only you inside and start from rock bottom was really something else. You could start from the ground up as a guild master and slowly make your way to the top, recruiting people along the way who would go on to become your friends.

>MIT student
>it's not actually MIT
fucking third worlders

>when I was at University, all my friends and I played on the same server
>we had our own guild, even got up at 3am to take some castles in WoE
>fast-forward 15 years
>only one friend even still has RO installed anymore
>we only play for maybe an hour every 6 months
>aimlessly flywing around killing stuff together
>every few months when I log in I see the server pop is getting smaller and smaller.
>tfw even the biggest servers that were at 2~3k pop a couple of years ago are already down to 500~600pop now
>worst part is 2/3 of those are afk vendors
fuck multi-boxxing. it's ruined every MMO I liked.

Attached: 1424564018794.jpg (1200x888, 406K)

Multi Boxing didn't kill MMOs, the game should have just allowed you to vend offline in the first place.

>Quality of life improvements killed MMOs.
Unfortunately this.
I'd love to play on a low-rate private server with no warper, no reset girl, no healer/buff NPC but the servers that are like that literally only have 20 people playing.

Personally I don't mind healers because I don't have all the time in the world like when I was 12 but everything else is just lazy. I can deal with warpers too but unlimited resets really fucking kill the game.

Attached: 1443584898896.jpg (694x965, 131K)

Fuck RO Mobile
It was a great remake ruined by one of the most greedy and incompetent publishers/developers I've ever seen

eh multiboxxing has changed every MMO to some extent.
in RO nearly everyone had a priest alt because they got sick of spamming "BAPS PL0X" in town for Agi Up.
even Eve Online has been slowly ruined by people with 15 multiboxxed alts. instead of trading goods with someone so they can ship it for you or relying on someone with skills in X it's just "oh let me log in my such-n-such alt". Shit even ruins the economy in MMOs because you get a few autists that multibox fuckhuge numbers of characters for mining or farming. There's an American dude in Eve who mines with 92 characters, and he's not even one of the big dogs. Chinese and Russians regularly pay for and multibox 300 accounts at a time so they can make more money/hour.

I just miss when everyone had 1 account and 1 character.

>the servers that are like that literally only have 20 people playing
That's because it feels like a total waste of time nowadays, when there are other games to play and other things to do. The people that would play such a game/server are probably in the 100s worldwide. The audience for MMOs has completely shifted since 2010 or so.

What servers do you play on, if any?

Well it's difficult to police such things. With multiple computers, VPNs and RMT going on, how can you hope to curb these actions?

This is also the reason why all MMOs should be subscription based.

Attached: 1464455774031.jpg (752x1064, 631K)

>multi-boxxing
animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2017-02-03/japanese-video-rental-store-owner-has-truly-insane-gaming-setup/.111697

Reminds me of this guy's setup multiboxing in FFXI.

I mean, everybody did it at some point in RO. It wasn't what killed it, Renewal was partly to blame but also the game was quickly aging, only the most hardcore people would still play it today.

Why was Ragnarok anime so hardcore?

Attached: ragnarok merchant.webm (400x300, 2.3M)

I remember it was very depressive

I found my first gf through RO who later died in a car crash.

The Ragnarok anime is the best anime of its kind. And not just "Anime adaptations of video games", I mean the entire Fantasy genre.

What other game can satisfy my urge to play a blacksmith? Crafting your own weapons and selling them was so fun.

The best thing about RO M is the graphics. They are perfect and that's exactly the kind of art style an RO sequel should have.

Imagine a higher quality version of those graphics for an RO sequel on the PC

Can't go wrong with Amatsu Dungeon, Payon Dungeon, Yggrasil Tree, Niffheim and Byalan Cave. Not coincidentally, these places have the best music.

Thanatos and Juperos are some of the best designed area in video games, too. And I suppose I can't go without Kiel Factory either.

Creators were bullshit and acid demo was imba.

We are old and nothing will top early days RO.

More like gooks can't make good netcode. The gameplay was okay but only if you had sub-10 ping and lived in the Korean peninsula.

It was supposed to be balanced around the fact that it was expensive as fuck but all the materials could be botted easily.

ffs this god damn game gave me a lifelong priestess/nun fetish, alongside all those memories.

>tfw spent countless hours in c_tower1 with my sin farming bathories for easy exp
good times

>make a game that lags infinitely harder than ro ever did with thousands less players

trying to pvp in tos was pretty eye opening
gear system is pretty garbage as well

>Pre-renewal RO had the most balanced and varied class experience of every MMORPG ever created

Prove me wrong.
Also, Clown best class.
AGI-DEX Clown bestest class

Hunter/Sniper is the most broken and everybody knows. Literally everybody with an iq over 70 rolls a hunter as their first char.

That's because pre-kekneval RO was designed with macro class cohesion in mind rather than singular class balance.

This means that each class felt powerful and fun as fuck yet they were balanced out in groups because they synergized so well.

No other MMO developer has done anything like that.

>Hunter/Sniper is the most broken

Attached: 1551273571918.jpg (845x828, 50K)

>Tree of Savior PvP
Literally the most fun I've had since my RO days. Yes it was garbage and we were playing at sub 10 FPS(sometimes going into literal 1 FPS) but the sheer lack of limitations and consequence made it brutal and addictive.

Add to that the fact it was a new game and everyone was running for-fun experimental builds. It was pure chaos.

>you will never declare war on 12 guilds simultaneously, kill them on sight on every non-city map, instill fear and respect into the hearts of everyone and still win major showdowns
>with a band of ragged randoms and armchair theorists from /vg/

Attached: screenshot_20160510_00016.jpg (1920x1080, 1.04M)

>All the skintight habits
>That porn of the priestess and hunter fucking minotaurs pinned in place by arrows

Exactly.
The whole system was built up with the notion that cooperating was a must and a necessity and not an option.

In recent MMORPGs, a support class can faceroll their first levels with ease, maybe even reach mid-late alone.

Good luck running out of sp by using heal in payon until you had enough sp to actually kill 1 ghoul per minute in glast heim lmao.
And don't even get me started in the literal dantesque hell that was trying to solo level a fucking soul linker.

Holy mother of fuck.

>You will never
Yeah cause that never happened lmao

Who else actually managed to hit 99/70 on an official server? I did it with a High Wizz and it took me about 10 months of daily grinding.

Tree of Savior was such a wasted opportunity. It did things actually well like:

>graphic/art direction
>combat system
>tons of classes with actual variety

things it fucked up on:

>the optimization
>dumbed down skills
>dumbed down bosses (no MvP style)
>shit PvP with 5 fps slugfests
>ranged was OP
>GvG was fucked

Basically take the WoE system from RO and put it in ToS exactly the same. Fix the optimization in the game there is no reason modern system shouldn't running this style of game at 60fps constant. Copy class skills from RO.

Know what fuck that. Toss the entire game out. Take Ragnarok Online pre-renewel and make it look like Tree of Savior. EZ money

Attached: tree-of-savior.jpg (620x354, 69K)

Were Soul Linkers difficult to level? I mean, by the time you've finished raising a Taekwon to Job50 with an INT based build and you get Esma, I don't see how it could be too difficult. Except maybe the period between job changing and actually getting Esma.

t. someone who played on the seamonkey or subamerican servers

I stopped playing official before rebirth, but I was on of the first lvl 99 Monks on euRO, "Pater Artemis" was my nick.

Got to 98/70, but not sure if it counts cause it was Sakray. Took a looong ass time too.

I managed to get my Blacksmith and Monk to 99 in euRO. Red Pirates guild. Good times.

ToS was unironically getting better over the past years but was also ruined by multiboxing autists.

And how to you level a Taek with int, my dude?
You need either a powerlevel from a friend or speccing into STR that will get you nowhere afterwards.
The other option is to spec into full Dex and use Yggdrasil leaves on Anubis, but you need both the money and a friend to tank.
It was a chore and a really underwhelming experience, as SL is mainly a spirit bot that will fit in close to no parties.
Also called the Tilewarmers of Prontera.

It was obviously post Renewal because I only played pservers during my youth but, on iRO, I was on of the first high level Kagerous. I had to explain to people what my character could do in parties by the time I was around 13x(it was max Lv150 at that point). I think I parked at 147 and never finished leveling it but I was easily in the top 3 for a very long time.

I never got to play with Rebel class or the new furry jobs. Maybe I should resub.

Attached: 1459034853310.jpg (714x1000, 438K)

How P2W are we talking here?

I was so close with my Knight, level 96 till I stopped and dicked around creating a blacksmith and a crusader that got up to level 92

yea but I did a hunter so i sailed through it on easy mode. i tried doing a monk but ended up quitting

Just go to Anubis and wreck their asses 24/7

I love this game. Started in Morroc and killed some Porings on the map above it, even Pickys were relatively strong for a low-level novi. The next map had Wolves and Pecos, they were super intimidating. Some Swordy came to me and told me to hit them, I was like "no way I'll die", but eventually gave in. He always provoked them before I managed to hit, he was tanking for me when I didn't even know what tanking was.

I wanted to be a Mage. When I arrived on the map south of Prontera, I learned from other players that you need to go to Geffen to become one. So I started my journed through fields and forests. After 3 days of wandering, I finally arrived at a town. I was so excited that I finally found Geffen and could become a Mage. Except it wasn't Geffen, it was Alberta. Lol, good times.

I wish I knew where to get the files to set up a local pserver of old versions like the beta or at least before all those power-creep patches came in.

Attached: 1528363245481.jpg (867x1106, 254K)

Upgrading gear has a chance of breaking it forever and there's like a 0.01% chance to upgrade something all the way to +10, unless you buy premium upgrade mats, those will still fail all the time, but your gear won't break so if you want to you can throw a few 100$ at the game and max out all your gear.

yea i learned about that place way too late. like 5 years after i quit the game.

>had to make a merchant to sell things and for discounts/overprice sells on the crap that drops on your main which you send over

i miss that kinda autistic stuff.

Attached: images (2).png (250x202, 8K)

ratemyserver.net/index.php?sk_name=running&page=skill_db&sk_search=Search

>Running (Skill ID# 411, iRO Name: Sprint)

When you use this skill, your character starts running straight forward. You cannot change direction of where he is running while running.
You can stop using Running skill by simply using it again (no SP cost to stop), or use another skill, or run into the wall.
When you use this skill (At least at level 7) and then immediately stop, then there will be +10 STR buff and a +(10*SkillLV)% damage to the Kick skills for 150 seconds if you are un-armed (only works on TK and SG, not SL).
When you do not have any weapons equipped, the kicking skill damage will increase by +10 per level of this skill, for maximum of +100.

You spec Running to Lv10. Run and stop immediately. Doing this gives you a huge damage boost, allowing you to level up without any STR. Add to this the fact that you'll always be doing between 50~100% more damage because of unlimited elemental swaps and at the very least you've got a viable method.

You will need some deep pockets in gear to keep yourself alive but it's possible. The problem is that this stop workings for Soul Linkers so you can't make use of it btween Job Change and the moment you get Esma.

Supposing you level to Job 48(you don't need the last 2 points), you need to spec 1 point into Sage Spirit and 1 more into Wizard Spirit to unlock both Kaite and Kaina. You need to max out both to get Esma, a total of 14+2 points before you can start putting any into Esma.

This hell where you can't support or deal damage sounds worse than Taekwon hell.

Attached: 1459116020349.png (700x723, 331K)

How did they get away with putting Moonlight Flower into the game?

Don't forget Isis and Maya, plus their cards. Maya even has visible nipples, at least on the card.

Ragnarok Online had tons of nudity. At times it was a full-on monster girl game.

Attached: A269dYjCEAA38KR.jpg (600x450, 69K)

Even if it's doable, it's incredibly tedious.
I mean, if you want to do a challenge run, yeah, it can be done.
But back in the day we just powerleveled the fools that dared to pick that doomed foresight of a NPC that is the Soul Linker.

But hey, I'm not to talk. I've had the most absurd builds and they all laughed.
Until my Agi-Dex Clown was unbeatable.
Or my Agi-Vit sacrifice Paladin 2 shotted the enemy guild top geared Assassin in PvP and they started sweating profusely.

And don't even get me started on the wonders of the cast 0 Dex-Int Stalker with Byorgue.
It's so fun to see them actually try to counter a lvl 10 no cast Jupitel Thunder that fucks you up 3 ways from Sunday.

Fuck dude apart from being mobile this looks like it could be the one

Aye, I still think about this game everyday. It was incredibly popular at the time here on my country. It even had some pretty sizeable female population on that game. I made some good online frens on that game, but my autism and overall edgyness ended up pushing them all away. Heck, even a 24 yo woman (real one, I saw her via webcam) wanted to drive all the way over to my town to meet me when I was 14, but I didn't realize what she wanted and ended up being an edgy cunt. That happened more than once.

Soul Linker was ass but nothing compared to making a forger/crafter Blacksmith/Alchemist, a Super Novice, or even a Baby character.

I am glad to find another fine gentleman that appreciates the flexibility of this game. My all-time favorite is definitely the MDEF-based Lord Knight although the Final Strike focused PvP Ninja was also my jam.

Attached: 1447042138709.jpg (798x1129, 355K)

Definitely not a very balanced game, but it was very fun.
Hunters could annihilate anything from fullscreen by spamming a basic skill
Priests were better tanks than the actual tank classes
Mages could literally break the game with firewall, icewall, safety wall shenanigans
Thief is way better than the other classes for autoattacking on welfare

Not to mention the gimped classes like sage, bard/dancer, merchant...

The worst thing about the game was needing a ton of extremely rare cards to have a decent character.

Yep, I'm from Brazil. RO was the first MMO to be translated to Portuguese, and the publisher at the time had a pretty clever way of getting people to play the game: they mailed you the CD. Most people at the time had shitty internet, so downloading nearly 700mb was impossible. They mailed the CD for free, and you had a 30 day (or maybe a week, I don't remember) free trial. There was also a lot of private servers, which were pretty comfy too.

Attached: 7238267826.jpg (1200x900, 185K)

Ahh, lemme guess, full fucking Goibne's set Ninja, my dude?
That was the shit.
For sneaky kills, the ultra sekrit buildo of "Cloaking Sniping Gunslinger" was also pretty fun.
It was like a Falcon ASSault Sniper but doing actual damage instead of making a full out of yourself.
You could also pack a rifle with status cards like Breeze and Magnolia if those were the bleed and curse ones, I'm really rusty

You don't actually want to play a game where you get rekt by a creamy in the starting area, do you?
You really needed to have friends or guides to get around back then. Just going wherever you felt like was super bad; even after 2nd job you were pretty limited by class on which areas were worth doing.

>Priests were better tanks than the actual tank classes

Best design decision ever. Having one offensive skilly (holy light) which was only tickling a bit made it fair.

Attached: 231311-ragnarok-online-knight-vs-priest.jpg (900x710, 118K)

Monk was by far better at tanking than priest.

Based gooks.

Attached: 30901f948f70b2a818be82b0903bf273.jpg (750x1000, 212K)

Utterly based. I had fun with some shenanigans too:
>create female priest
>discover quest related place that you could save as a portal
>you could only get in/out if you were doing the quest (or with an item)
>go to a place where the merchants are selling stuff
>either lure a monster (orc village) or use a dead branch to kill the merchant
>cast a portal into the feet of the dead merchant
>revive him and send him to nowhere
I would also cast a portal on my side, select the place but wouldn't hit enter just yet. I would sit while my guildmates lured people, saying that "her boyfriend just broke up with her, can you cheer her up?" to some random. As soon as he would sit next to me, I would hit enter and teleport him. We saw many people complaining on the forum that they got stuck into a room without exit.

Everyone was good at something. You just haven't experienced all the facets of the game.

>bard and sage being gimped
kek

Not the Goibne set, Lord Knights could get some crazy MDEF without any of that shit.

>10 from Endure
>10 from Silk Robe[1] armor
>15 from Drooping Cat questable hat
>4 from Wool Scarf[1] on shoulders
>7 from Kapha card on Wool Scarf
>7 from Megalith Card on shoes or 10 from Crystal Pump
>5 from Gibbet Card on headgear, if a Sunglasses[1] is available
>10 from 2x Rosary[0]
68 MDEF without using a Shield. Could go even higher. MDEF was really underappreciated because it both reduced the chance of being Frozen and also the Freeze duration, on top of actually cutting down magic damage. You could stack up some elemental resistance on top of it all and become unstoppable at WoE except for Asura and Acid Bomb.

Found about RO with a similar way. Got the CD through a local gaming magazine.

I always wonder how would have my life turned out had I never got the CD into my hands.

Had to repeat a grade due to my 4 year RO obsession back in 2005-2009

Same here. Although I didn't had to repeat a grade (shitty school, teachers didn't care), I did used the game as an escape outlet, specially after the doctor misdiagnosed me with schizo when I was 15. I lived inside that game for many years.

When it comes to gimmick builds you gotta put your money where your dreams are. Remember: In RO, the more DEF/MDEF you have, the more benefit you get from every additional point. If you have 60 MDEF already, adding another 5 MDEF points reduces all magical damage, freeze chance and freeze duration by 12.5%.

All this madness existed for the purpose of becoming nigh invulnerable to freeze and magical damage while, at the same time, keeping your armor slot free. Plus this setup saves you money by using very cheap items on certain parts such as Armor and Accessories.

I found Yea Forums when someone on my server's forums posted a 4 panel rage comic.

Instead of making the game they wanted and the tens of thousands of foreign players, IMC fulfilled every desire from the Korean playerbase to streamline the gameplay, make everything brain dead, kill PvP and GvG, implement whale-friendly subsystems, etc.

Remember when MMOs allowed you to go into a dungeon with a party of healers or any combinations of characters you wanted?

Remember when this party was formed by creating a chat room outside the entrance where people socialized and joined?

Remember when the dungeon was actually a part of the world map and not a mini-game?

Fuck. Why can't we have modern good MMOs like RO or Tibia?

I wish I still did, sprite porn is great. I remember one that had a hilariously poorly written incest story to it.

Remember when redditors didn't post here?

back in the day, undercutting red potions was big fucking business. straight up market PVP.

If only someone had a pet Poring that could grab the card.

There are literally thousands still playing on Warpportal, feels just like 10 years ago.

I hope prontera's or aldebaran's theme is played on my funeral

I honestly think this pisses me off the most because it looks like it's a good advancement of the series but it's only on mobile with that shitty mobile interface because the chinese are developing it

the game was a glorified chat room at the end of the day so it makes sense

I was GM on some shitty private server with 100-ish players, I'd get drunk and change my sprite to one that I had and kick everyone out of the pvp arena. The head admin was literally afraid of me for some reason so I basically did whatever I wanted, he even made me some gear that would deadly poison anyone that hit me.

I didn't even read your reddit spaced shit. Suck a dick.

>mfw own a whole collection of a private server's webcomic

Attached: sock19.jpg (650x1186, 223K)

Yeah, that shit was insane.

were you there when Yea Forums used to play on the server? God I'm still fucken bummed that I lost all my screenshots from that time years ago when I played on that server with them.

they gimped the game unless you had premium to get around the massive jew shit they were doing with the market
you were highly trade limited and the auction house had something absolutely insane like a 30 or 40% gold tax
you also had limited dungeons you could run daily unless you had premium, then it gave you like an extra daily run or something

it was very anti consumer, took months and months of everyone yelling at them to change it, and they only begrudgingly yielded way later, but by then it was too late and everyone had already up and left the game because you just couldn't play without paying

>Oh no the formatting is WRONG for this website! I WONT READ IT!
Exactly what he was saying, ironically. How you can't do anything other than what the devs intended. Or how more space between your sentences won't be tolerated, just like experimentation on classes and shit back then.

My Ragnarok days are sadly what I would call my "glory" days. Ripping the client apart and getting it to do shit it wasn't supposed to do was fun. I miss the community from eAthena and the servers I ran. I sometimes wish I could go back but it just wouldn't be the same.

Put that shit on archive.org, I wish I still had copies of that old RO comic, probably didn't even save them back then, retard that I was. Not that it would have mattered, that computer is long dead.

HHHNNNGGG

Attached: 87398237.png (601x850, 718K)

I wish I knew then.

The reasons everyone is giving you are BS, I actually played the game for a couple years and the reason it's niche is because it's RO in an age filled with exploiters, hackers, botters, wasn't optimized for shit, and frequently had gamebreaking bugs in the early days like trying to quest in a party resulting in players being permanently frozen until they logged out unless they were a certain distance away. In addition launch ToS was too grindy for the average gamer, and even though the game did hold onto a niche audience it has gradually faded over time because it has become outright impossible to keep up with the players who control the market without exploiting the game.

looks fine just maybe like the player is lagging out a bit?
The ground indicators are fine and the screen is a clusterfuck of aoe attacks.
The worst looking part is how the whirlwind knockback basically fucks the player completely

Almost 1/3 of the posts in this thread are responses to mine. I'm the OP and I fucking LOVE RO, however I do hate redditors and tibia playing BRs, such as the user I was replying to.

Attached: Capture.png (1337x427, 75K)

Being a GM and always having cute girls masturbate on cam because they think you'll give them shit. Those were the days.

That explains why you're such a faggot

No one in here is actually going to believe in me but met my 12 years long relationship fiancée in RO.

She was a Monk and later with the updates an Arch Bishop. We still play it for a few hours once every month for the old times.

Living together in a house, with jobs and having dogs keeps us from going full RO through a whole day like we used. Fuck life catching up to us. I wish we were still 15 years old having teenage romance fun and playing RO together for ours and ours. Cherish this, Yea Forums. We are much closer to our last day on this earth than you think.

No way you could take on maya at level 60~ but hey, the bosses were straight broken back then anyway.
I'd like to try this one out at least. Prob the closest recreation yet unless you want to play on a dead pserver or with broken ass 3rd jobs+renewal mechanics.

I haven't played ToS so i'm not disagreeing with you about anything, but iRO was fucking full of bots even before it went f2p.

Had the time of my life with RO from 2002 to 2006 or so, when I quit and started with WoW. Had sex with two girls I've met in RO, too. Without RO, I'd be a wizard now and forever.

Also played on some pserver for a short time around 2012 with Yea Forums, Yea Forums, /vg/ or whatever, though it quickly fell apart as people were quitting. Can't believe I've had fun with guys from Yea Forums. Spent all day killing valks and MVPs together with a champ.

this image makes me rage and feel fury and frustation at the same time.

>end up with 0 items but full of cum

This.
This was back when playing as a girl when being a guy irl wasn't as common as it is today.

It can't, a huge part of the charm is the visuals and something like that just wouldn't be made today.
Also, you've played a shitload of other games since, and RO, if made today, wouldn't hold your attention as much. I feel like the only reason that to me, RO and Lineage 2 are the only good MMOs, is because they're the ones I spent a good chunk of time in as a teenager and was new to the idea of going on adventures and meeting new people. Now I never want to fucking talk to anyone online. That's just my personal experience, though.
The weirdness of private servers probably isn't as pronounced anymore too, I remember playing on an L2 one full of poles where the top clans were all variations of 'White_Power1/2/3' etc led by elves with names like Lindsay_Lohan and Christina_Augilera. Shit was just plain odd. I think I made an orc and went around bix nood muhfuggahing at people.

I actually knew some of these guys, we were forming a clique in the open beta hanging around in geffen2 and such, later forming a guild after the official release.

Alright how many hoops do I have to jump through to get this running in NA?
Bluestacks?
Fake chinese account?

>he didnt play on private servers with crazy power levels and asura spammers and blacksmiths spamming millions in white pots every few minutes

Attached: asura.png (794x241, 301K)

Specially since you had an account gender so guys were much less likely to make a girl character.
I did lots, though. Swordsman-line clothes on girls were too cute

I miss ERP in RO.

probably just bluestacks

Of course I fucking did, that was 90% of the fun.
Or those ridiculous servers with custom sprites for everything, i remember logging into one with a friend, finding out that some zenny dupe glitch that was patched out of more recent versions worked and completely fucking ruined their economy by just gifting billions to random people. Got banned pretty quickly but I doubt they managed to reverse the damage.

We can only hope, brother, but I'm afraid is correct. Banter was a huge part of RO, and we would shittalk each other constantly. I can't imagine playing an MMO today because the old habits would kick in and I would get banned. I can only see it working if someone with fuck you money like Notch decided to create it's own MMO that wasn't bound by some faggy "muh diversity" publisher.

I'm glad your kind is gone from mmos. No one liked edgy kids.

I got /ss/'d by a girl in my guild back when I was 14
It was some 20 year old goth girl who knew how old I was and would still talk dirty to me and pull me away to private locations to talk

In hindsight it was very weird

Fem knights were super cute, actually I can't think of a single class where the transcendent shit didn't look worse than the 2nd job.

Enjoy your discord trannies who will get you banned if you sneeze at them in the wrong way.

Attached: eRO server shutdown.webm (640x360, 971K)

The whole fucking internet is an edgy kid now, that's part of the reason why I wouldn't want to play anything like this ever again. Its fucking trannies and nazis the whole way down.

Any GMs on private servers here? Hook me up with items I want to pvp. Fuck I miss switching 4 manteaus and headgears with my SinX while swapping daggers and swords spamming Soul Breaker while guessing what element the opponent's armor is imbued with. Fuck modern mmos fuckkk

You're about 13 years too late, buddy. I'd help you if I could, loved doling out overpowered shit to people just to upset those fags who'd hang out in pvp all day acting like they owned the place.
That said i'd probably switch your sprite to one that crashes your client after a bit since i was a spiteful fuck.

same as other guy. I was a GM on a server like 15 years ago but not now. I didn't give anyone free shit and gave them a 10 hour ban for begging for items.
Was fucking annoying with how much "gib zeny" and "itamz pl0x" I got as a GM, literally 5 or 6 PMs a minute.

>That said i'd probably switch your sprite to one that crashes your client after a bit since i was a spiteful fuck.
GMs can't do that, nice made up story tard.

I forget the command but i'm pretty sure you could, either that or it was my own sprite i'd switch and crash out everyone around me, this was a long fucking time ago.

Is this it by any chance? I don't have the whole series though, just 2 random ones I saved because they were silly.

Shut up spic

Nah, it was hand drawn in pencil and felt like an amateur version of the manga but focused on adventures in the game, I think it even had a classic hot springs part. I probably mostly remember it because the girls were hot, along with the possible death of the guy who made it.

you can, i used to be a gm and people usually wanted me to turn them into a pupa or another stupid sprite.

>that moving pupa animation

I'm genuinely not sure if he's right or just got bored and fucked off. This was all so fucking long ago. I definitely remember some code to change to a sprite that most people didn't have that would just immediately crash their clients, along with changing myself and friends into monster sprites and other stuff you do for fun.

There's no going back. It's over, we must cherish the memories we made, and that's it.
For even if things were still as they were back then, especially regarding how easy it was to talk to someone else about whatever, and eventually make friends that way, it's us who have changed the most.
Remember that RO's launch was about ~15 years ago by now. Most kids from then are now adults, in their late 20s or early 30s even, and that's probably the case for you too.
You can't hang on the past, for life is not eternal. And for many, is that fear of a wasted life what impedes them from enjoying things as they did back then. You see threads from time to time in Yea Forums where people say that they no longer enjoy videogames. It's the same thing.

fuck this mobile bullshit

Live servers are 90%+ botters.

Private servers are marginally better, but they're pretty much all pay to win.

We've had a few servers that weren't pay to win that were fun for a short time, but they all died due to shit management.

I remember some of those names. The geffen2 crew in the beta with Sohma Yuki, Leda Etoile, Neptune, etc. were my heroes when I was still a newb, seeing those crazy high levels wreck shit in geffen2 and mids4 was so awe inspiring.

Attached: 1533901420985.jpg (1024x768, 221K)

Before there were any jobs/classes. You could go from novice to very basic first jobs and thats it. Also before as a thief you had unlimited dodge in a sense (it didnt matter how many enemies were trying to hit you as the dodge was calculated per enemy). You used to be able to get a train of mummys going and bring them down on some noobs (osiris too).

very shortly before ep. 5, juno, on the european server.
Played a few days and then had to download another large file (the update installer) which got me confused back then, since I just downloaded the large game with my slow internet connection back then and now I had to download another one?! No game I played before did this, so I wasn't used to that kinda stuff.
Will probably never forget and it was worth it.
Still playing to this day.

I loved this game so much! It was easily one of my favorites but I never got to play the "Real" game just a few private servers. No quests or shops or anything, just going through some zones and killing shit with friends. I remember my best mate and his GF played together, the server we were on let you get married and "Adopt" another character and you all got some neat items and buffs and stuff. Then they broke up and it was a big mess. So me and him went to a really high level aggro zone when she logged in and summoned her and then I summoned him so when she loaded in she'd be getting assaulted by aggro mobs and he'd port out about the same time getting her killed. Fun times.

Female Swordsman outfit were the cutest of all.

Might as well just post the Bio lab MVP card art.

Attached: rocard10.jpg (1800x437, 724K)

>being exposed to the fairly new world of the internet
>everything is new and exciting

RO was also my gateway to hentai. The female priest outfit makes me fucking hard, then only to find my first hentai about them called DL Action. It was untranslated, but goddamn I came while I was just reading it because that was when I knew what masturbation was.

>played with trial accounts on kRO, jRO and cRO when iRO was down for like half a year between the beta and release
>on kRO people were much nicer than on iRO, even had a guild there for a while until my trial account ran out
>on jRO everyone was super nice, incomparable even to kRO. I met someone in the field who said I had shit gear, then dragged me to town and gave me a bunch of gear for free just like that
>cRO only had 50% exp and it took fucking ages to get anywhere
>regularly made trial accounts on kRO sakray to test out the newest updates
Once I had a sin there when one of my bros found an angeling card and traded it for a triple crit jur. This was just after GH/CT came in, at least a year before iRO would even hear of it, and critsins were hot shit. Shared the account with my bros playing the critsin when they were rare as fuck and everyone would drool just looking at one.

Same here, but in my case i was fapping to a female High Wizard getting spitroasted fanart.

Man I fucking hate how in all these new games the mages have stupid default magic shoot attack with high damage and with 0 mana cost

All you niggas played on private servers and didn't support the game anyway.

>Base EXP Rate: Player chosable between 1 - 100
>Job EXP Rate: Player chosable between 1 - 100
>Quest EXP Rate: Player chosable between 1 - 100
kek
nice

pservers offered a legitimately superior experience.

It's shit because it follows the modern MMORPG formula
which is linear single player game with chatbox

Try not being an ESL faggot before calling anyone retarded.

Leika?

A home run in terms of character design. The man who made these is a hero.

Attached: Character_Priest.jpg (1024x768, 464K)

The game was only good for xration porn.

Nakajima's doujins were the best. Her characters started as novices or 1st class, went on adventures, through job change quests, leveled up, found items and so on. Just characters living in RO, interacting with each other, adventuring and fucking too of course.

Attached: 1535677873093.jpg (2259x1599, 962K)

Wait, is this another version of RO ?
How many of RO Versions nowadays besides the good old RO1 ?? can someone list it ?

Attached: 54234124.jpg (315x441, 39K)

It wasn't worth supporting after they added the cash shop and F2P

That's pretty much what I pictured RO 2 to look like
>on mobile
Fuck! I know there are Android emulators, but that means it's going to have a shitty mobile interface. And tons of P2W bull shit. If only there were private servers..

The best part of RO is making a shitton of money and buying a ton of deadbranches, and then finding a populated area/people selling stuff and unleashing a zombie horde onto them. Never got old.

>calling different games versions

Was that whole sex thing canon too? XDDD

I feel guilty each time i kill this monster.
Same as Porings, Munak, and that monster riding a harp in Thanatos tower

Attached: 1170.gif (110x107, 12K)

Why not just make a Yea Forums pre renewal server with a patreon where people can throw a dollar for server upkeept cost?

Attached: 56546.png (210x380, 62K)

Old RO had healer too. It's called inn.

Because I already play on an official serevr, because I really like this game.
And because I like this game I don't wanna hurt it's production so I have better hopes on future content.

>game runs at about 2 fps in crowded situations (basically all the fucking time later on)
>server was garbage and extremely laggy
>class balance was utterly fucked with many classes being completely useless
>leveling was just questing, literally, grinding was a waste of time except in a few maps, but most level ranges had nowhere to grind
>gearing was so stupid that everyone just used a lvl 15 gear set forever until the mobs started getting too strong and then you used something with more defense
>becomes a daily simulator later to farm for shards to upgrade your gear, best way to progress is to make more characters to farm the dailies

the beta was unironically better.
ToS now is way better than it was on release but it's super dead so nobody cares anymore.

Already been tried. Truth is, people like the idea of playing RO but not actually play it.

the issue isnt upkeep, the issue is interest.

I miss RO man ;_; there are no other MMORPGs like it.

Attached: honeymoney_007.png (941x1400, 336K)

Ragnarok had some decent lore in it, especially later on and it wasn't on your nose at all, you had to go look for it.

>What was 404ro

not RO but

>play a game called Dragonica on EU servers
>shit is super alive and I love it
>eventually gets shut down cause the publisher was retarded
>literally fucking cry as I lose my character I spent years on and all the friends I made since nobody really used outside communications at the time
>eventually the NA server lets EU people in
>start playing again
>they recently banned all EU players for some reason

EU niggas just can't catch a break

Attached: 1546287759396.jpg (753x601, 29K)

I tried playing RO on a private server ended up just falling out of my mind. Those dream like days are long gone.

Attached: 1529714509085.jpg (531x612, 68K)

Honestly it was fun but ultimately it was nothing more but a giant chatroom. When I was young and in school with no job/responsibilities to worry about this game was perfect. But really thinking about it now, there wasn't shit to do and it wasn't deep or that challenging either. I dont regret playing it but I would not play it now. I still listen to the comfy OST sometimes and wonder what happened to all those countless people I played with and lost all contact with.

I never even played the game for more than 2 hours but it was the first mmo I played, when we first got internet

SEA here. This game was planned to release in SEA, but it was cancelled due to lack of interest. Even China itself has low playerbase on that game.
That game is deader than Tree of Savior.

What prevented it from taking off? mistakes can be learned from

Attached: 1553050678890.png (719x717, 401K)

Ragnarok would be ripped apart, if it came out today.

do you know why it died?

Other SEA here. I see a bunch of people playing the Eternal Love version of Ragnarok on mobile on public transportation. Its funny to me that only 30+ year old boomers play it and not real young people below 20 years old

Its in closed beta in china. How did you come to any of those conclusions?

Attached: 1556791705091.png (383x400, 174K)

Lack of interest. RO M and other MMO games like PUBG mobile dominates the market

The admin and Harbringer and the fact that nobody on Yea Forums actually wants to play RO, they just want to nostalgiafag for a bit

Cartel got the owner for making an RO server with their money.

Imo MMOs don't work anymore because the gaming market is oversaturated as hell. If you're looking for an MMO, you'll probably see 20, half of which are shit, the other half ghosttowns. What did we have back then, RO, Ultima Online, Everquest? And many people I knew came from UT, Q3A, CS, so they were not exactly "genre interns".

Makes sense considering RO came out in 2002, or even 2001 if you count the alpha. That game is older than half of new-Yea Forums. And even if you were older and looking for a MMO to play, you'd probably choose one of the more recent ones that have healthy/growing playerbases and aren't in planned decline. I know I'll play WoW classic, but Blizzard will probably find a way to fuck it up, those greedy incompetents.

Also, remember when new players would ask another player where the Thief Guild is, and they would escort them there, or ask other players about good builds? That doesn't happen anymore because you can just look up everything on the web now.

fuck that webcomic was fucking great.
i need to find it and download all of it before it disappears from the net.
>mfw I found an old CD from 2002 that was full of old web comics like Megatokyo, Sexy Losers and the first 50 strips of CtrlAltDel (back when it was good)

I started playing about a month before Turtle Dungeon got added, in the months when retail RO was still free to play. I quit and moved to private servers when they wanted people to pay a subscription. ($6 for 3 months? WTF!?!?! who would PAY A MONTHLY FEE to play fuckin GAMES!?)

>Imo MMOs don't work anymore because the gaming market is oversaturated as hell
Wrong, they don't work because old mechanics that people used to endure wouldn't fly with today's generation. Sure, some old timers could still enjoy those but it's a niche market and not worth the invesment to create a fully fledged MMO.

biggest market is Chinese, Japanese and Korean commuters who want to throw money at a phone game they can play on their 1~3h of daily train commute.

Give me your best homunculus/genetics arts. I found like 1,5 arts for Sera and Eleonor. I know there is more.

BASED

>market is oversaturated as hell

for mmos?
they don't come out very often anymore and there's only a few mmos to pick from now.

it's more about new generation of kids not giving a fuck about mmos, they just play phone games

unfortunately this. the only MMOs that survive these days are the same ones that came out 15~20 years ago and are well established.
>WoW
>Eve
>FFXI
>RO
>Guildwars
>Everquest
>Ultima
if anything FFXIV's been surprising because it's the only modern MMO that's lasted so long, but that's mostly because Squeenix used profits from XI and other games to keep throwing money at it for 10 years until it finally could support itself, before throwing FFXI under a bus to try and make people move over.

>make my own private server back in the day with a friend

the classic

>Try to play private servers
>most of them have less then 100 people and the ones that have more then 100 have a fuck load of bots standing around 24/7

That's actually how it was (and still sort of is, displayed in some MMOs) in quite a bunch of korean MMOs

>all those hours spent trying to ledge sniper mvp
man, those were the times

All the Biolab Lv 3 monsters are extremely OP if you play on standard rates.

You just need to kill them with a party, they are easy then.

Only on High Priest and Sniper. Meet High Wizard especially the boss level or MVP ? instant death

Swordman has so much soul.

high wizard literally couldn't do anything if you cast LP

I just reinstalled iRO a few weeks ago since nostalgia hit me. I can't remember what I saw that made me revisit RO again. Anyone else tried running a personal private server? What are your experiences with it? I tried running a private server on my PC years ago (2008 I think). I just wanted to try all the classes fully leveled up. It was an OK experience, the monsters were lagging a bit though, weird since the "server software" is running on the same PC. Ofcourse the real MMORPG experience is the best.

>polish beer

Pivo is beer in polish. Just looked up the brand you're right its croatian. I've had that beer plenty of times in Poland so I just figured it came from there.

It's spelled with a w in polish and I've literally never seen that brand of beer here.

WHAT THE FUCK
Are you sure this guy isn't stuck in a temporal loop so that it's always 2005?

>private servers don't let you dance out of your animations by moving because they consider this an "exploit"
>every private server is just some huge hauling piece of shit, doesn't matter if it's renewal or pre-renewal
>can't play on iRO because europoors got blocked and don't want to play on euRO because it's shit
>doesn't matter either way because it just isn't the same anymore
I'll just let go of it and let it stay in my memories, it isn't worth going back, even if there was a big reboot or new game made.

That's pathetic and sad. I only think about RO almost weekly.

I still think about my girlfriend I met in this game daily.

Sure he did, i don't doubt it. He was a good online girlfriend

>buy premiums in game
So how long to get good gear when you play this game without spending any real money ?

RO classes are too satisfying, Priest have great support spells and plenty of tricks against undeads and demons, Hunter elemental arrows, a falcon and nice traps, Wizard XBOX huge AoE spells, etc. Other MMOs can't compete.

If you powergame by supporting your main character with 2 alt blacksmiths and playing smart, then 2 weeks is enough to build a solid level 90 character. 1 month premiums range from 1.5 million zeny to 4 million depending on its rarity, and you can easily make a million zeny each day.

Ehh, Lineage2's raid is arguably better.
But I agree though RO's 1v1 is the best.

You're supposed to play it with friends.

Not everything exists for the sake of progression. PvP is its own purpose and a limitless fuel of drama, action and happenings on an MMO. PvE content is exhaustible easily and fast but PvP can go years without going stale.

>GvG
Let's not go into how awful that was. Current whale guilds swap wins for victories to share benefits, right? That's what happens when you bind PvP to progression rewards.

A factory of dreams, it was.

Item swapping was unique to RO because of how items were made. Today in MMOs you never do that because pieces of equipment are objectively superior to others and there's no room for discussion or swapping.

Literal boomer opinion.

>had alts to use as plants to say 'OMG I GOT GTB CARD' and other rare/MVP cards so no one catches on that they're being fleeced
>I did this several times and never got caught
God I was an asshole, there was also the one time I ended up causing a huge spat of drama between two huge guild alliances for laughs using alts in both guilds to stoke the flames and instigate attacks between the two
Like that shit was so bad, members were sending death threat PMs to each other and getting banned for flamewarring in the forums and ingame, some of their members whipped out the hacks during WoE as well and caused an entire month's worth of GVG progress to be rolled back or wiped which fucked over other guilds as well.

This game was truly one of a kind.

>priest just sitting there dead and not respawning back to warp into castle again.

Most Lighthalzen / Yuno / Arunafeltz shit was fucked up, especially the popes brother being kept frozen, the interior of the sacred grounds and the entire bio labs shit. The Gaeblog Family curse and having that lead into the Nameless Island was amazing too. I miss those days so much

I was the one who decided to break our relationship because I've grown tired of it but I just realized how I badly fucked up this decision
I already fucked and went out with other girls but there is still something that I feel that's missing. I want to get that first taste of love again.

Attached: 1539276192713.jpg (213x237, 8K)

The entire "main" questline leading from Curse of Gaebolg and going into Nameless Island was kino. It was the perfect example of how to do questing in MMOs because it was non-invasive, totally optional and you were never the "chosen one".

Does it have to do with that game that had all the proto-ideas for RO?

Attached: 1551839992688.jpg (270x400, 104K)

This is sort of what I think whenever someone cries out for "I want a new RO".
Odds are the majority of people who do want a new RO would want it as some bizzare experience they got on their own, probably with a healer and a warper at 50x rates and would find any other way "alien".

Yes, it got fan translated last year too.

This game's longevity was incredible though (mostly thanks to pservers), even after the gooks tried to kill it with Renewal it still kept going in some manner to this day.

Of course it would never work today, people were more naïve back then and not everyone had internet access yet, meaning only the most dedicated people played online.

Which features does Yea Forums judge essential for having fun in RO today?

Personally, I think that

>autoloot and autoloot of specific item ids
>free healer
>Warper(maybe not free and unlimited)
>Main chat or some other sort of global, in-game chat tool
>PvP rooms

There's some cool nu-RO stuff that I also think is cool but people don't know very much. For example, modern RO clients can open up in-game browser windows. I also consider RCX essential too.

I'll never play this. Are those characters important?

Attached: 1505861534599.png (700x950, 213K)

I only need a skill/stat resetter.
everything else I dont care much for.

>even after the gooks tried to kill it with Renewal
lmao renewal was their last attempt to resurrect RO
RO was fucking dead in official servers in 2009 and Renewal saved it from its last legs
>b-but my private server needs to leech more pre-re content how could you do this to us grabbity

they are the lead characters of the game, so yeah.

Attached: 2.jpg (1024x768, 296K)

>actually reading the quest
Nerd!

lol j/k. RO questing is great.

>skill/stat reset
This shit severely kills much of the fun of the original. You can just run a PvE-oriented and easy to play build and then respec into something actually useful later when you've maxed out. For example, crafting alchemists and blacksmiths become too common and too broken and every monk you see can instantly turn from a party tank to full Asura Strike build.

I dont care. Being forced into one choice is the most anti fun. It completely kills experimentation. At that point you essentially have to play by guides and the exact meta or you fuck your character forever.

Its shit.

>complaining about skill/stat resets but wanting healer/warper
lmao what the fuck

>This shit severely kills much of the fun of the original.
Yes, unlike the implementation that lets you teleport to any dungeon you want and constantly arrow storm/ASURA STRIKE > butterflywing (or god forbid, @go 0) > heal > warp back to dungeon and repeat

The mobile version has everything that's been introduced to the genre in the past two decades that shouldn't be part of the genre. It's disgusting that it calls itself Ragnarok.

There isn't really any experimentation left. It's just a choice between what is easy and what is rewarding down the line.

Healer/Warper saves time but having resets completely changes how you plan and play the game.

I think they are good, but only is they are also money sinks and/or limited by time (1 reset each week or 10 days). Minmaxin and being able to level funbuilds without living a nightmare is cool in my book.

>autoloot and autoloot of specific item ids
Merchants exist
>free healer
Priests exist
>Warper(maybe not free and unlimited)
Priests exist

The server I used to play had around 1k~1.5k players. It had an skill/stat reset feature, but it was limited to twice a month per character, so you couldn't just abuse. Yet, it was fair enough in case you messed up something and/or wanted to change your build. Pretty comfy.
I would go with:
>autoloot
>healer (faster than inn, but with a small fee)
>warper (faster than taking multiple kafras, but still with a small fee)
Let's face it: we enjoyed playing the game without those things back in the day, but now the sense of wonder/exploring new things is gone, so there's no point on excluding features that would save some time.

>>warper (faster than taking multiple kafras, but still with a small fee)
They real problem with warpers are the ones that warp you straight to dungeons or, even worse, to every dungeon level.

Ragnarok was definitely killed by multiclienting. It's a game that has multiple classes that are almost entirely support oriented and multiclienting allows you to basically not need to have dedicated players for those classes. Also everyone gets access to their own priest buffbots and warpers.

>Healer/Warper saves time but having resets completely changes how you plan and play the game.
So being able to cut back on STR (carry weight), VIT (HP/Pot efficiency) and INT (SP Regen/total SP) because you don't have to worry about making long back and forth treks doesn't change the way you play? Being able to heal and warp around meaning that even if your soloing is glass cannon and kind of shitty, but you're still able to farm doesn't change the way the game is played?

What are you smoking, shit like @autoloot, healer and warper change the way you play the game much much more than some shitty skill/stat reset.

The second you implement those three trios of private serverdom, you give archers the biggest buff possible for any sort of farming, thanks to their ability to constantly weave back and forth while being able to shoot shit from a safe distance. You also fuck over every MVP in the game by letting glass cannon asura fists roam free.

Oh no, those would suck. I was talking about a Kafra that takes you to most (if not all) the towns and a few dungeon entrances, like Payon's cave or the Orc Village. If they sent you straight to the 3rd level of a dungeon, they may as well make the @warp command available.

I never really got the chance to get into RO since I didn't have good internet when the game was booming so I had to make do with RBO.
youtube.com/watch?v=QCbi5C4Hxc0

yeah it changes the way you play, it improves it.
healer and ESPECIALLY warper changes the game too, and they make it way worse.

Warping with commands is cancer, teleportation should only offer up to dungeon entrances or maybe certain parts into the larger ones. You want to save time on parts of the game you're not actively engaging monsters and just moving from Point A to point B.

Resets are fine if you can do them only up to a certain level and then no more. If you allow a max level character to reset even once then you're opening the gate for a Knight that leveled as easy-peazy 2H Sword-Agi built to respect into full VIT built, turn Steel Body tank monks into full Asura machines or Alchemists to become perfect crafter and Acid Bomb-tossing beasts.

Aye we want to give people less reason to multi-box and leave AFKs in town, not more.

Heals can be free but everything else should cost zeny. The game is inherently flawed in the sense that it just pumps money into the game and doesn't have enough sinks for it to go away. That's what leads to inflation and item-based economies because eventually, all money becomes useless.

Easily fixable but it wasn't that bad. Most buffs don't last long enough that you can wear them in town and still use them for long enough that it makes them useful.

Not warping straight to the maps and not for free. Those things would be possible with multibox alt characters even if we don't have them.

You see, this sort of opinion is the "back in my days we didn't have any fancy features like that" but when you actually get to playing, nobody wants to sit for 5 minutes to recover HP.

Dungeon entrances only. Maybe a few levels in for very long dungeons like Thanatos.

Attached: 1541912190785.jpg (443x455, 96K)

>then you're opening the gate for a Knight that leveled as easy-peazy 2H Sword-Agi built to respect into full VIT built, turn Steel Body tank monks into full Asura machines or Alchemists to become perfect crafter and Acid Bomb-tossing beasts.
I see literally no issue with that.

>You see, this sort of opinion is the "back in my days we didn't have any fancy features like that" but when you actually get to playing, nobody wants to sit for 5 minutes to recover HP.
It's called meat, fresh fish, potions, or LV 10 HEAL you mong.

Besides, if you're up for healers and warpers but are against skill resets, then you're just forcing people into AFKing in magma dun/thor to get leeched and in what fucking way is that fun ever?

>kRO implemented the ability to buy/sell items for items
who ready for a ZENYLESS RAGNAROK

Second Rebirth fucking when?

When everybody becomes super, nobody is super. MMOs are about rewarding your commitment not just taking the easy road every time.

You still need to get within 10 levels range to get leeched. Life is hell even in the lower stages because you can't hit and can't do damage. This sort of thing keeps the most broken builds from being common and the most broken craftables from becoming common.

And then people complain they can't go 5 steps into WoE without getting Acid Bombed in the face. Everything comes back to bite you in the ass, sooner or later.

>meat, fresh fish, Heal
It's better to charge money for heals than forcing people to buy recovery items, using them and then moving on. Again, less incentives for AFK tile warmers.

That's basically endgame when no proper inflation control is done. Your economy basically becomes Venezuela.

Attached: regret.jpg (801x713, 94K)

>MMOs are about rewarding your commitment
There is no commitment when you just follow the meta so you don't fuck up your build.

> Vitata Card on Scholar/High Wizard

>not just taking the easy road every time.
t. man who can't be bothered to fly wing to nearby dungeon

Do you not understand what commitment is? Look it up in a dictionary.

We're talking about an 18 year old game so yeah, they're fully charted waters. It's not like the game lacks builds.

>waste time wait for heal bad
>waste time get party bad
>waste time walk dungeon bad
>GROG LIKE WASTE TIME MAKE ENDOW SAGE
>GROG LOVE SLAP MUKA WITH 99 LUK
There's a reason the only popular servers are either the ones that have no healer, warper, skill resetter or have all of them.

The middle ground is garbage and there's a reason why nobody wastes their time with it.

I don't consider following someone else's path commitment.

>warper is fine because walking/FW to dungeons and fields is choring
>but leeching a BS to 99 is fine
That guy can't be real.

Attached: 1523006866921.png (500x500, 7K)

Another example of nostalgia speaking through you but nobody would actually want to play like this. 9 out of 10 people will simply multi-box.

We can't beat multi-boxing. The only way to avoid it is not giving people a reason to use it.

None of these features changes the fact that there is nothing new to explore in this game, it just makes certain paths easier than others.

the fuck does any of that have to do with multiboxing?
begone retard
give me the full deal or give me nothing, don't try to push this half assed "walking and healing is outdated and nobody has time for it but going trough terrible leveling isn't tee hee"

>arguing semantics of pservers from a dead game
Get a life nerds, this was a nostalgia thread.

People played most time on pservers than iRO. Heck, the majority of Yea Forums posters never played on officials.

Flywing moving and waiting for healing is not gameplay, you're just blankly staring at the screen waiting for the cue to play again. Leeching a crafter class to max level is not as simple as leeching, there are tons of other factors at play.

It is almost like the people ITT do not understand the price in blood and tears that comes from wanting to having a min-maxed character. Are you all zoomers or something?

Basically every single feature discussed is available as a character skill. By making those available as NPCs we can cut own on people who would multi-box while at the same time charge a minute amount of Zeny for the service, slowly but surely keeping inflation from spiraling out of control.

Attached: 1493169614033.jpg (341x403, 73K)

not having a skill resetter is probably the biggest motivation to multi-box out of everything
do you expect me to actually level my BS to 99 without leeching on an archer or some shit?

>calling people zoomers when you literally want to zoom around the world instantly

Attached: 1533665577718.jpg (359x347, 72K)

WGR > DL Action

Attached: 001.jpg (1062x1500, 173K)

>do you expect me to actually level my BS to 99 without leeching on an archer or some shit?
Yes I do. Because you will have to level two characters simultaneously at half speed and have to gear both of them.

The skill/stat resetted means anybody can level an STR/AGI/DEX BS to 99 and then restat to crafter and spam the market with elemental weapons, further making EVERYTHING a breeze to level. And then when elemental weapons become cheap then nobody will have a reason to make any.

Everything comes back to bite you in the ass. Hard learned lesson.

You can zoom around the world effortlesly even in the most vanilla version of the game. The difference is whether you charge someone Zeny directly or force them to multi-box a Novice character slave to do it for you.

Attached: 1403142438745.jpg (800x720, 89K)

It is almost like you never paid the price in blood and tears that comes from wanting to having a min-maxed character. Are you a zoomer or something?

Thank you based Xration for all the faps.

Play LoM you fucks

reminder that the highest population official server doesn't have fly wings, teleport or warp portal

once again showing that Yea Forums, as usual, is wrong about everything

I remember playing it with some friends on IRC for a couple of months. We didn't get very far and I thought it was a shitty game, but the soundtrack and art, plus the fun we had, have a way of giving me serious nostalgia

I basically think it's wasted potential. It could have been so much more

too bad he forgot the concept of proportion these past 2 years

What is that?

How many of you know how to dodge an asura with a Champ?

Which one is it?

Ragnarok without flywings is fucking hell. I can't even imagine it, and I don't want to.

Attached: 1470423701457.gif (480x270, 382K)

Acronyms only work when people know wtf you're talking about

>free healer
no. downtime and actually interacting with others is important

Taiwan, Hong Kong, Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia and Brazil (sort of) all have no flywings, teleportation or warp portal.
The highest populations is debatable and can be either Taiwan or Philippines.

Godspeed, lad. I hope that the source code leaks and you can usher us to a age of glorious RO grinding like the old ages.

Finally, some good opinions and counter arguments. I agree can agree with your logic.

If we were talking about a huge population then I would agree. Not nearly as effective in a low or mid-pop server, and specially so considering modern distraction. People would just seek instant heal items or alt-tab/browse their phones.

Other communication tools such as @main chat and the inevitable Discord channels got this covered. It's not exactly like >muh 00s feelan~ experience but you can't fight against what you can't fight. Another hard learned lesson, you can't tell your players how you want them to play your server.

>you'll never spend an allnighter just outside orc dungeon chatting to random people
it's not fair Yea Forumsros

Legends of Midgard, yet another otherwise really good LR server ruined by a retarded admin who cannot into marketing (he didnt even bother advertising the server before launch and still hasnt almost 2 weeks later lmao)

>tfw grinding to this for hours

Will check it after weekend.

Playercount?

>using shitty mods for pvp
common faggot

i made a RO thread and didn't know this one was still up

Attached: Kafra.png (3368x900, 3.09M)

Mods? Its a grf for better precision. And that WoE not pvp, and lots of people use them in WoE

230ish average, ~300 peak, server will be 2 weeks old tomorrow.
DOA server of the month unless the admin does some heavy advertising real soon imo

Auto potions software is common nowadays in servers right? Last one I played even promoted one in the forums

>7-man guilds
>"WoE"

lmao

That's worse faggot, literally git gud you fucking shit faggot, also using a shitty custom GRF for a woe of 6 people looks pathetic.

>2007 was the last time I played RO
>was 19 at the time
>now 31
Those were the good old days. The internet and everything involving it went to shit after 2007-2009, coincidentally that's also when fecesbook started getting popular.

Me too, user.

Another private server? What about AtlasRO?

>everyone sits around watching a wizard insta-cast Storm Gust on an entrance at 3am for two hours
>one guild usually controlled most of the castles so most of the server didnt have access to the unique loot
nah not really

>tfw lost my virginity to a girl i met in ro

There are probably characters in this webm with items worth thousands of dollars.

same here
good feeling

It was @diguise. I'm actually the person that developed that command. There was a lot of fuckery involved in getting that to work.

>There's a reason the only popular servers are either the ones that have no healer, warper, skill resetter or have all of them.
lol i wish
servers like that never have a population over 20 players.
all the busiest servers are low~mid rate with full healer, dungeon warper, reset girl and the whole shebang

>had an internet relationship with a girl on RO
>met her by randomly calling out her name when she walked by me because I liked it

It went as far as phone sex and cam sex. Cams being relatively unpopular and we had to resort to MSN messenger. Was 15 at the time.

If you guys want to continue reminiscing of better times.

originsRO gets 500 players and 700 vendors on weekends which is more than what most servers get

OriginsRO is most boring server that has ever existed, plus its full of duped items (boss cards included)
