Welcome back, to part of, us making a TF2 map in hammer. When we left off, I added a mcdonalds, a death pit, the payload path, trenches, and a taco bell! Several teleporters were also added to various locations.
Custom Textures, Sounds, and Mode elements (I.E Payload speed). will get added upon a get.
To keep it simple and because I need to compile this map (which takes fucking forever with my PC), the first 15 gets will get added before I compile and pack the map!
Thats the beauty of it user! I haven't touched playtesting this map, only compiling I did was to fix pointfile errors. This map might somehow be horribly broken and we'd never know! good thing we have a thread full of guinea pigs

xenon is that you? Also add a secret button that drops this onto the middle of the map and then disappears for like 20-30 minutes/map restart. Make the bomb play a gachi soundbyte or something when it explodes, too.
One final map overview, before compiling. Because hammer is shit, compiling takes about 30 minutes, so give me some time! now we hope that the map didnt somehow horrendously break itself when adding all this garbage into it or else that'd really suck haha

have you done a lot of mapping before? pretty sure you have to use VIDE or some shit to put all the custom textures in after youve compiled, dunno if thats common knowledge or not.
I made like 3 maps for previous vans. I'm not the best map maker, but I partially blame that on hammer because awful. I have more experience with the Portal 2 Map then anything else.

While we wait, heres some fun factoids about hammer: Hammer has not changed at all since 1995 when Half-Life first went into production. It has stayed fundamentally the same since, they've just added ontop of it, similar to what Bethesda does with Gamebyro
Source 2 is going to make hammer more user friendly and less of a hassle to use, so experienced and new map makers can make good products without needing some ancient knowledge of map making.
Hammer can't handle convex shapes, the map becomes unstable and hammer usually crashes if one is made.
Hammer is described as a "tool" not a "maker" because of the shit you can do with the engine. Though, only the experienced elder gods of yor know how to do anything like that
Source can't actually handle a lot. In fact, a fairly simply map like "Trainsawlaser" pushes source to its breaking points.
Hammer's compile times are random. Some peoples CPU's can take 2 hours to even compile something like Upward, while others take 30 minutes, while some take 5 minutes. Nobody really knows what causes this, as even people with high end CPU's can struggle to compile maps.
No just that valve never fucking finishes their shit these days.

They are still working on it, apparently it's coming out in like 2022 or 2025, Valve has been working on it since 2012 and it will be 10 years in the making. What Dota and CS:GO run on is a very early beta version of Source 2 that we haven't even seen yet. The entirety of it is going to be an open source engine like with Source 1, and will be easier to use and feature a new version of the SDK which will overhaul hammer, the model maker, the face poser, ect. and allow the user total creativity without the constraints of regular hammer being a piece of shit.
Also, like VR, it's going to have 3 flagship games to sell it, though thats literally still years down the line so who knows.
Included is the Bsp and Vmf incase you wanted to see the map as is in hammer. Anything that may or may not be broken isn't my fault, I haven't even playtested this map yet. So it might be catastrophically fucked

Yeah, so like I said, apparently the map has catastrophically corrupted itself. I never added lighting, it's always been full bright, and also the payload kind of kills you. Which shouldn't be happening. So if anyone who knows how to map, knows how to fix this shit, please do. Because I literally changed nothing between today and yesterday.
Add a bunch of super overcomplicated secrets. Secrets are the best part of TF2 maps.

Thats the thing though user, lights wouldn't effect fullbright. Unless i've just been getting lucky this whole time and whenever i tested with lights they never fucked it up. Huh.

Maps will only automatically start in fullbright when there aren't any lights in there, so maybe it's on your end or something. Check your config or something? I dunno.
