They literally have no choice for actual console gaming, Switch is not a direct competitor, Xbox is dead brand in Japan, PC for nips is just a visual novel machine. The market for consoles is held hostage by Sony.

for now. I'd like to see what happens during the next gen, I'd like to remember you the days of PS3 when every jap games of any relevance was on DS/3DS.

PS3 was only getting fucked in the japanese marker in its first 2 years, and it wasn't in favor of NDS, it was in favor of the 360 that still had actual incentive from Microsoft in Japan but after a few years of not getting the playerbase they wanted Microsoft abandoned the Xbox brand in Japan so the PS3 started getting stuff for the local japanese market since the devs had nowhere else to run.

What can the upcoming 9th gen even change? Microsoft still shows itself to be completely distant from the japanese market and the japanese still don't care for the brand, as long Phil Spencer can secure just the AAA japanese titles like Final Fantasy games to be multiplat he just won't care for smaller japanese games, which again will have nowhere esle to run but to Sony.
