Someone's been posting an ID for a Bandland stage, but I haven't seen any pictures

in case anyone missed it from this morning's thread, here's a repost with the revised Click Clock Wood v3. If you downloaded the older Click Clock Wood stages I strongly recommend updating to this new version.

I'm pretty happy with how this turned out, it's based on Shifting Sand Land from Mario 64, the main gimmick is there's one of those rotating boxes that crush you unless they fall on their hollow side.
It was really tough to get it working in a satisfying way but I'm mostly satisfied with the result (the only problem is the glitchy lava collisions but that's out of my power to fix)

It would be pretty neat if you could make levels based on gruntilda's lair (interior) and grunty's furnace fun. But those might be more trouble than they're worth.

She was a gift from someone a few years ago, it's from a site called Budsies. They make custom plushes, though word of warning; they are difficult to work with now. They've gotten so big that getting on their waitlist is next to impossible these days. I've been trying for well over half a year to get in.

Your click clock wood stage is definitely a contender for the best custom stage ever made. In stage builder, I viewed how you used moving platforms to move your backgrounds. I was blown away. Good shit, dude. Seriously.

Good luck to you if you try, I don't even understand how their system works now. Once FurAffinity found the site, it basically exploded in sales to the point they've had to restructure how they do things because they don't have enough staff to handle the amount of orders coming in and it's a mess. I hope it fixes soon, but it's been forever. Plush commissions are always hard, even when you find high quality artists who take them they always fill fast.

Honestly I kind of gave up too, it used to be a waitlist system but now it's some sort of ballot one where you get a number and they randomly choose them or something. So with how huge the pool is now, the odds are really stacked against you.

She's my own spin on the Hanako San urban legend from Japan, I designed her to have her curse make her lower body look like a slimy gross thing that would crawl through pipes, so it's a mix of an octopus tentacle and a centipede.

It's a shame that I didn't get that Lucii stage on time.

when I started on Click Clock Wood I tested various mechanisms to figure out how to do it - including an idea I had for Grunty's Furnace Fun. Unfortunately, the Furnace Fun mechanics didn't really work so I've kind of scrapped the idea since. Might try thinking of something new entirely for it, or even just recreate it visually without any fancy mechanics involved.

As for Grunty's Lair, I don't know what location(s) to focus on. As much as I'd like to do a travelling stage for it, much like my Click Clock Woods and Hailfire Peaks stages, I don't think it's feasible to do that to cover all the key locations of Grunty's Lair. The amount of hoops I had to jump through just to get 4 seasons of CCW in one stage was insane, and in that stage I was at least able to recycle/repeat elements due to the seasons taking place in the same location.

that's quite a compliment, but I'm still kind of unhappy with how CCW turned out. Lag can still be a problem, albeit rarely in the revised version I just did; it also irritates me that I was unable to get it to consistently cycle between the seasons in order...it gets out of sync after the first cycle. But, fuck it, it took forever to make and I'll quite happily never touch it again now. if you think the mechanism is impressive, you should see the ridiculous lengths I had to go through to fit in all the details in each season

not sure how I'd make the engine room both look good and play well/accurately to the source material. Also, not sure if I want to do stages of specific locations within levels. I wouldn't rule it out entirely, however, I just need more of a vision for it first.

personally, I'd love to try making previously suggested gunty's lair after I'm finished with these 2 BT stages, but I'm struggling to think of how to do it. Even if I do magic changing backgrounds again, it'd be impossible to fit each section of the lair into one stage.

Anyway, I kind of regret not including some kind of reference to the engine room in my Rusty Bucket Bay stage now. I guess I could revisit each level from BK and make alternate stages for them? (engine room for RBB; the interior of Mad Monster Mansion; etc.)

That actually looks very good. I guess the simplest way to animate the arms would be to just make them rotate in place instead of moving from side to side? One on the roof and one on the floor? Maybe make them lava so they're actual obstacles. Diggernaut is my favorite 2D Metroid boss fight, I hope they take heavy inspiration from it if the rumors are true and Mercurysteam are working on Metroid 5. This is coming out even better than I could have imagined so far, great job dude! I've been really looking forward to this. Sometimes I think bumpers embedded into objects works better as hazards, instead of making them lava. It doesn't deal damage, but it can still be a hazard, and doesn't look really ugly like lava terrain can do. I would put Bumpers into the drills

Damn that actually turned out good, I guess with the Diggernaught it kind of fits thematically having lava since you can say it's shit that it just pulled out of the ground while excavating. This is one of the best Metroid stages yet

I'm a little conflicted about stage builder.

Stages made to look like levels from other games never look quite right due to limitations. Drawings look too simplistic as well. Layout-wise, they will never be as good as official levels. Yet I really enjoy stage builder in spite of all this.

I'd take it one step further and say I'm so far gone at this point when it comes to Stage Builder that I don't even like playing on the official Stages in the actual game anymore and would always prefer playing on the Customs at this point. Nothing's coming to mind for a music choice, though. This is really making me more frustrated that Sakurai refuses to put any Wario Land stuff in Smash, because the brass in those songs would work wonders for this Stage

I got one warning from Nintendo for my one banned stage and they didn't reprimand me at all for it past that, even if it wasn't really anything sexual, I doubt they draw the line on that stuff and it's just a strike system. The thing is, I actually got one warning already. Posted an update to my 9/11 stage that got deleted (even though the original version I was updating didn't get flagged). So this will technically be my second misdemeanor. I'm worried.

I'm making a stage based on Meta Knight's boss room in Kirby's Adventure and I'm trying to decide on the platform layout
There are 3 platforms I'm thinking of including in some combination but I can't choose since there are pros and cons to every choice.
>Just C
This is the most faithful to the game, but it's a somewhat awkward and asymmetrical layout since there is only one platform and it's high enough up that it's hard to reach
>B and C
Not quite as faithful to the game but the platform in the middle at least fits in with the windowsill so it doesn't feel like it's just randomly thrown in; platform B makes platform C more accessible
>A, B, and C
Same as the previous, but trades faithfulness to the original for symmetry
>Just B
The most neutral option, but quite boring and doesn't reference the game as well (though despite being boring it's to my knowledge a unique stage layout compared to any built in stage)
>No platforms at all
Doesn't add anything that isn't in the original, and doesn't have the awkward high platform C, but is basically just an omega form (maybe worth posting separately as a variant)
I'm leaning towards B and C but I can't decide

The whole commission was for a naked character with a horse thrusting. It was incredibly difficult and I hit the weight limit many times. Had to redraw the body and the horse more than I could count. But to answer your question, the commissioner was insistent that the horse's body be there and not just a floating weenie. I also suggested a dog for ease of space and movement but he seemed insistent on the horse.

I might make a couple just in case I don't get to post for a while after this one. They'd be worksafe though since this is the one and only time I'm making a lewd stage. Couldn't resist that dough. I'm getting Super Mario Maker 2 with it.

B and C for sure

Hey Blargen, just wondering, what stages do you download and keep around? I imagine you hit the download limit pretty often, so I'm dying to know which you consider with keeping.

I've got them all. My save will be full in a day or 2 probably, so I'm rip my save either tomorrow or Saturday, then be able to upload those.
My guess is they don't want people trying to use stages as a homebrew entrypoint, I think Project M did that in Brawl.

I actually am so close to hitting 99 with just the Stages I have made that I had to delete all the ones I downloaded recently, sadly. I'm around the 90 mark at the moment and it sucks. I'm going to have to start culling some of my lesser stages I've built soon just to keep going

Before that though I had saved a bunch off and on but I think the ones I most recently had were Clanker's Cavern, Freedom Cradle, Jasmine & the Magnemite, Donut Lifts, Pavel Destination, that Sonybro that sucks you into his butt , Strongbadia, 64 Desk, Star Hill and that Pool Table off the top of my head

Wow I'm so amazed you still managed to fit 8 Player compatability into that one, it doesn't look like it would be. I haven't made a single Stage yet that fits 8 Players, I'm terrible with always hitting weight limit in basically all my Stages. That's a good song choice, since there's nothing with a lot of horns in it I can think of in the game that's a pretty fitting alternative

One thing I worry about is whether or not there is a limit to how many Stages you can have uploaded, it's another reason why I am reticent to go back and fix some of my dated ones still. Has anybody out there been able to go on record and say what happens if you post over 99 Stages online?? For all we know they roll over and erase previous uploads at a certain amount

I guess my priority list goes something like Neutrality >= Faithfulness > Symmetry, and A+C has to sacrifice both of the former for the latter.
I think I would only include A if I was already willing to make the neutrality/faithfulness tradeoff by adding B.
I suppose I can always just make multiple versions if people really want them.
For now though I'm going with B and C, here's the ID.

To be honest I'm embarrassed at this commission I'm uploading because it goes against my otherwise PG/PG-13 sensibilities and I feel like you and I get along rather well in that regard.

With the exception of Click Clock Wood, I always start designing a stage with the 8 player limit in mind. I quickly sketch out a rough version of the stage, using as few material types as possible, then redraw everything to merge separate objects of the same material type into a single shape (cleaning things up as I do so). In more extreme cases, I'll redraw multiple times to get everything connected and hidden behind other layers. Click Clock Wood does this to an absurd degree just to fit in its detailing, which is why I made it as the last BK stage as I knew I'd have to know how to optimize the shit outta things before even attempting CCW.

As an example, the shadows+crack detailing on the background cliff in the Terrydactyland stage are all part of the same piece (including the doorway which is hard to see at that angle)

Here comes another Paper Mario stage, boys. I ended up creating two versions, one with a non-slippery snow (marble) aesthetic, and one with a slippery ice aesthetic. I made the ice version first, and thought that while it would be a lot of fun for shenanigans (the terrain at the bottom creates some crazy ice halfpipes that are really fun to fast-drop onto), I'm sure a lot of people would prefer having traction so that their fights don't get too fucked up and unpredictable.

It's kind of funny, because I actually occasionally draw nsfw and even do nsfw art commissions for people but I haven't had any desire to make anything like that at all with the Stage Builder, the closest was my Lucii one but that barely counts and was just true to her character as a succubus.

You really have to be the master of shortcuts and keeping weight down out of everyone using the Builder at this point, even my stages with the most conservative amount of pieces don't come close to some of the things you've pulled off like that. I have never even played a single 8 Player match now that I think about it, I hope I can have my first one on one of your stages. Yours actually look like they'd be fun to do it on, you make them big, and have good platform layouts. I see smaller stages that are 8 player compatible and I can't even imagine how much of a mess those must be to play.

Sorry arena bros, both for the arena getting stuck on my shitty Star Wars stage and for my controller disconnecting.

I actually am really conscious about the amount of objects I put into my stages, and I still hit the cap every time. With stages like Mt. Rugged, I'm utilizing all four layers to create the illusion of depth. Here's an overhead of it so that you can see what I mean. The only solution in a case like this really would be to "compress" the whole thing into one layer and sacrifice that depth.

On stages where there's not a lot going on, I usually think it's a worthy sacrifice, because honestly I would guess there aren't a lot of people who go out of their way to play 8-player games, and I think a more detailed end product is worth it. But your more efficient approach is also equally as good, and as we've all seen in these threads, you still make some great looking stuff even with the more minimalistic style.

Depends on how much you'd have to get rid of but I think it would be workable, especially with some tricks.
I think you could cut down by something like 10 objects without losing the soul of the level if you're careful and clever, pic related is some ideas that came to mind that you could try.

fairly sure those dirt lines could be done as 1 or 2 connected objects with very thin lines connecting them as one piece. Also, it should be possible to do the each fence on the bridge in a single piece rather than the 4(?) pieces you have per fence; at very least, it's certainly possible to do it in 2 pieces per fence.

Remember you can also draw things massive then scale them down to get far more detail as well as smaller/thinner shapes than is normally possible. Also, another tip is to take advantage of layering things to disguise when objects are shared - with some small tweaking, you could get those 2 green bushes as part of the same object with this this in mind. this user covered what I mean pretty well.

Already is. Though on the right side of the stage, you can see that part of the background, just below the eastern bridge post, is on the furthest layer, so I gave up some more depth to make that whole thing one single object on one single layer.

Diggernaut user here, took a break and found out platforms messed too much with the character spawns. They really need to address this in a patch. Also it's version 2 since I uploaded it and didn't notice that the lower drill prevented any taller characters from staying under without being hit so I raised it.

Personally I find it really fun to try and get around the object limit in creative ways, as well as implementing features and contraptions that the builder doesn't natively support. Maybe I'm autistic but that might be, like, half the fun for me.

I've played all of the above but I'm still enjoying it. Story mode is short but it's fucking Warioware, the appeal is playing it arcade style. Plus having all those microgames in one release is totally worth it. I'm eagerly awaiting Warioware for Switch that can use all the nifty joycon tech.
