The only saving grace of the genre is Grim Dawn and D2 mods, but even those aren't perfect in a lot of areas. Is there anything new I've overlooked that I should play to fill the void?

PoE is meant to be played in hardcore SSF, no autistic trading, no currency flipping, gear drops actually matter again. I'm never going back to standard.
They keep remaking the 1st act. I think this is like the 3rd iteration of the game they're at now. I'd definitely wait for them to finish the game before buying, if they ever will (I doubt it).
Maybe try Drox Operative. It's an ARPG but you play as space ships, so at least the flavor is a bit different. Feels kinda cool upgrading your ship into a bigger and badder one too.

Actually, it's pretty fucking bad. There's no challenge. It's just pure tedium. The game isn't detailed or interesting enough. The storyline isn't even that good. It's an absurdly bland game. Forests are fucking TEDIOUS. Literally just patches of grass with a few trees that go on forever fighting a million copies of the same fucking enemy. Blizzard really dropped the fucking ball on this game.

Though honestly the hc part is only if the extra tension floats your boat. 90% of the issue with SC is how lack of a gear sink distorts the economy.
they nailed the feedback of the combat, it feels as impactfull as diablo 3 if not more. and the graphics are pretty fucking good
the problem is everything else, still early beta.

Been playing the mod for years and always dump about a month in when a new league starts.
I fucking despise this chink art style. It makes everything look god damned retarded.
D3 is a good console game, not a good PC game. In fact I'd say it's possibly one of the best console games released in recent time and feels like a throwback the classic games from the 90's. It's so fast and fluid when playing Grifts it just feels like you're in an arcade or something. At least for the builds that work good with a controller, that's what it's like. Try playing a leap/earthquake build with might of the earth set. It's like an arcade game on crack.
I just can't get over how lazy they were with the PC version tho. They removed so much instead of just creating separate modes for people to play how they'd like. No offline is a dealbreaker for many. Why couldn't they have created different leagues with trade, with self found, with AH, etc similar to how GGG does it for PoE? Blizzard is just too cheap or lazy. The itemization is so poor compared to Diablo and DIablo 2 but particularly Diablo 2. Everything is sets and legendaries with no variation. The small party size limits and lack of custom named games. There are no cool little details like world event in Diablo 2. Game just feels soulless on PC.
The other thing that's great about MedianXL is it runs on practically anything. I played it smoothly on an old integrated graphics dell intel PC with no slowdown whatsoever. Throw it on a work laptop and it will run fast and fluid. They fixed a lot of the graphical artifacts that I remember annoying the shit out of me back in the day that made me just not play it ever again. Bumping the rez up to 1024x768 is nice. MedianXL is a true gem.
