And the naysayers still try to write it off as a flop.

The bundle is only like $50 cheaper than the components sold separately. The Knuckles look cool, but I'd also have to buy base stations to use them, and the combined cost of them + controllers would be nearly twice what I paid for my entire Odyssey+ set.

But realistically, I'm betting there will be several used sets for cheap by Christmas.

Imagine throwing ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS away on a niche piece of hardware with no games.

NO no no user don't say this I just spent this months rent on the index validate me

what's the appeal of VR if I'm not a sexually frustrated neckbeard interested in mutual masturbation with other men via VRchat

>no games
I'll never not hate this meme. I get its a joke. but it just ticks me off

Again, people keep mentioning this, but all im hearing is someone masturbate.

If you're masturbating while playing beat saber, you're probably playing it wrong.
Unless you have a tracker attached to your dong.

Nice projection bruh

Voice command games are pretty cool
Excellent party game system

Didn't Capcom specifically make a VR port of RE7?

>Didn't Capcom specifically make a VR port of RE7?
It's on PSVR though, which doesn't count according to Yea Forums

The ps3 with the big hard drive cost 999 in Australia.
Imagine how the people that brought that must have felt.

1000 dollars isn't even much.
perhaps try not living off government funds.

>>sell small amount of stock
Why would they do that? People are offering the money right now, so there's no point in faking scarcity.

Give me 20 GOOD games that aren't gimmiks like a shooting gallery

>according to Yea Forums
>according to me
no one cares, it's a vr game.

So you're just ignoring the answers you got in the last thread then? Typical naysayer.

this lmao, its an artificial shortage to build up hype,

uuuhhh.. beat saber?
uhhhh.....

>no one cares
Besides the PC fags who constantly say that PSVR is shit and call it mobile tier.

All I saw was desperate cope such as
>suddenly Yea Forums (aka one person) likes AAA games, what happened???

RE7 is the only good game from that bunch. I would know because I've played all of them.

what do those not count? they are games that can be played with a VR headset. thus VR games.

nice job on moving goalpost

If this were compatible with mechwarrior I would buy it. But then how will go about inputting keyboard commands?

Deja vu
I've just been in this place before

Beat saber! And... uh... s-skyrim?

With a keyboard maybe

they make way too much money to try and milk the artificial scarcity meme

either samefag or obsessed hivemind

It's a little much to be expecting AAA companies to make brand new games JUST for VR. Most of the ports are at least revised well to use the motion controllers.

Attached: check them dubs.gif (366x360, 1.97M)

I didn't. I am probably going to buy one though. I just refuse to buy something when I have no way of knowing the ins and outs of it from actual customer feedback using real world playtesting.

So I'm happy to wait until I have some real info on how the Index is.

>devs that matter
>Bungie
My fucking sides

I already decided up front that I was going to wait until it was released before possibly buying it. I wasn't going to get swepped up in scarcity shit, you don't make good decisions if you're pressured.
I'd rather see reviews and see if it's significantly better or not.

That doesn't even make sense for a privately owned company. They have no one to try and impress.

Repeating htc’s mistakes with that pricepoint is not going to improve VR’s situation one bit.

Nice quints user.

Not to mention you'll avoid early model manufacturing flaws

The full bundle is $77 less than its individual components, the HMD+controllers bundle $29 less. All HMD offerings are sold out back to July shipping. Controllers and base stations are still shipping in June.

>there are still idiorts on Yea Forums falling for the VR meme

pastebin.com/ngRpgDDV

As much I love the idea, the hardware and software support just isn't ever going to be there, just too many limitations and too much money to solve said issues that most devs and publishers aren't going to mess with the shit, it's time to let that pipe dream go and come back to reality and realize that VR is a commercial failure.

>le beatsaber is only game for vr xD
I pity poorfags that can't even afford a RIft lmao

Why do people say never for ANY tech

If any company could have sold at a loss without worry to build an ACTUAL install base worth making games for it was valve. I’ve instantly gone to despair for VR wholesale, if this is what means even for other vr users to get better hardware there is no hope.

Maybe you should lay off the clickbait articles.

>$1000

Attached: 1535956030429.png (963x900, 172K)

Nintendo could single-handedly resurrect VR from the commercial grave if they decided to go full force with it and take some of their IPs to the scene. They have several that could make use of VR in an interesting way, Pikmin and Paper Mario being just two that come to mind immediately. Not to mention Mario Kart (there's already a VR arcade game in Japan), and Mario Party. Their games also have simple and colorful graphics which would look very good in VR without a great loss of visual fidelity. Damn shame they don't want to take the risk, though I don't blame them.

There are cheaper headsets out there to choose from so Valve is covering the higher end of the market. Pretty simple to understand.

imagine buying A CAR FOR TEN THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS instead of using your bike

I’m happy for this, because retards spending money on VR means it might stop being a meme. And I can still pick up a kit later if valve actually announces something.

Retarded comparison

exactly, money is for buying things

PSVR has sold 5m+ units since launch. Even when discounted, those sales at a loss carved out a market bigger than a niche.

virtamate

I regret my vive purchase from a year ago, I'm not sinking $1700 AUD into a motherfucking headset.

brainlet

source

but what you said literally isn't an ad campaign

I'm just gonna wait for PS5VR's official announcement. Sony's the only company I trust to deliver games. They're the only company TO deliver games so far, too.

I know, I wanted to watch an epic stage reveal on twitch.tv

nice try

VR is a dying fad and everybody will forget about VR in five months.

Tell me how a company posting their new product on their platform is an ad CAMPAIGN its an ad yes. not a fucking campaign. they didn't spend any money or hire anyone to put a banner on steam.

Attached: MMMMMM.jpg (680x695, 34K)

It's not Valves fault your monopoly money is worthless. The smart move is to wait anyway, make sure all the bugs are fixed and some games are out.

Reminder that PS3 preorders sold out too. It was still a massive flop of unprecedented levels.

>$1000 VR system
>on top of a $1000 bare minimum high end PC

I'm not poor but I don't like money sinks either

I have VR and am upgrading to the newer VR, and yes VR is a niche meme with no actual games, and I say this as a VR fanboy. it's the promise of future big games that keep me invested, cause honestly, all we have now that isnt tech demo tier is
>csgo in VR
>Arizona sunshine aka basically a light gun game
>badly made vr ports of non-vr games like Skyrim and fallout 4
>DDR but with your hands (the most popular game right now)
>have a social life and pretend you're a girl like you've always wanted to you fucking faggot simulator 2019 (aka VR chat)
>shooting gallery who's Dev is a cuck and fears making targets that are human shaped
now what's keeping me invested into VR, honestly Is whatever rift and oculus are making/funding. games like stormland look to be an actual original full fledged built from the ground up for VR experience, meanwhile valve is over there making rock paper scissors simulator 2019: portal edition and "promising" a game.
honestly, if we were talking about VR headsets like consoles, I think rift won this generation, mostly because the cost, but also because of the games from the oculus store which are being made great, while index, while a good headset, is a 1000$ kit with no serious games for it (yet?), and you have to use a mostly glitchy/buggy third party program to actually play good made for VR triple A games

Attached: 1556500260614.jpg (328x323, 34K)

>launch new hardware with zero software to accompany it
i guess just being valve branded is enough to sell

>it has no actual games
>actual games
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS AN "ACTUAL GAME" A GAME IS A GAME AND IT HAS GAMES

look at all these good VR games I just listed! there's uhh...
>glorified tech demo
>glorified 60$ tech demo
>non VR game with a hastily made VR port

>games that don't support VR in any way but I used a third party program to think my VR headset is a mouse so I can pretend there are VR games

>Be game dev

It takes every fiber of my being not to hang up during the phone screen. Fuck this rotten industry, and fuck AAA publishers chasing fads. It's so goddamn hard to find a good project to work on these days.

There's a difference between VorpX and actual VR mods.

they can be good games and still be just tech demos, I mean, look at Wii sport, that was just a simple tech demo but everyone loved it. still tho VR has tech demo games only

>VR has tech demo games only
incorrect but you will still deny it anyway

Hey I can do some baseless assumptions too. I bet they just made a few thousands of units even tho to the factory cover the costs of making the assembly lines and first units they should at least start with 10 or 100 times that.

That's an exaggeration but the fact is that for every good VR game, there's 10 good games from the same year that don't need VR. It just doesn't make sense to bother with VR yet.

>there's 10 good games from the same year that don't need VR

Ports and games with no VR support at all.

A coordinated series of linked advertisements with a single idea or theme.
An advertising campaign is typically broadcast through several media channels. It may focus on a common theme and one or few brands or products, or be directed at a particular segment of the population. Successful advertising campaigns achieve far more than the sporadic advertising, and may last from a few weeks and months to years.

Does VR really need exclusivity?

that didn't answer my question

you're like a retard in the mid 20th century still riding a horse because you're holding out for a tesla

you'll spend your whole life waiting for 'VR' the way you define it and you'll die never experiencing it.

I don't think ports are ever going to be system sellers. They also can't take full advantage of what VR offers.

businessdictionary.com/

Nothing in the Index to make it worth the upgrade over a regular Vive / Oculus or a Vive Pro from ebay. Many systems already struggle to maintain the 90fps for each screen in the headset as well as what has to display on your monitor. Good luck pushing 144fps for both eyes and the PC's monitor without anything short of a 2080ti or better. I would have personally preferred a higher resolution, higher FoV, and better lens personally. This also fails to compete with the upcoming Vive Pro Eye.

Might pick up the knuckles separately, they're the only things here worth the money.

Doesn't mean you have to have exclusivity. You say port here like it's a bad thing.

Overload wasnt "ported" to VR.

I've owned a PSVR since January 2017 so I have experienced it.

...

>refresh rate is shit you need a good computer to get that many frames!
>please give higher resolutions so my shitbox can explode

What do you mean by exclusivity here? As in for certain HMDs, or just for VR in general? I do think VR needs more VR-only games, because games that are playable without VR won't attract many VR adopters since people could just play the games and save $400+, and certainly not enough adopters to make a substantial impact to the market.

I'll never understand these kinds of posts. You talk perfect sense, and then you ruin it all at the end when you buy into the fucking knuckles.

Finger tracking is a pure gimmick with no real world use. If you wanted an analog stick so badly you could've just bought a Rift. 300 dollars for these "upgrades" is not a reasonable price, and even if it was 50 dollars for the set I probably wouldn't bother buying them unless my wands broke.

>Why
Because VR is not a hot ticket item. It's not something the masses want. Especially not a thousand dollar fave monitor. So they estimate supply to a couple thousand units (example). Easy to make it seem like it's super popular when that small amount is sold out.

Last 5 numbers in your post is the amount of games there is for the valve index

a lot of vr games are kind of unremarkable without vr desu. Rez infinite for instance is a completely transcendental experience in vr, but played on a TV its just a cool on rails shooter. better we see more games designed for vr from the ground up.

>better we see more games designed for vr from the ground up.
I agree and that's exactly what I'm saying.

yeah I was just agreeing with you bud

I wish VR had enough money in it for a proper Rez sequel to be made, Rez Infinite is fun but it's an absolute cakewalk thanks to how overpowered the aiming is.

One day you might want to take a girl out or even leave your neighborhood and realize this was a dumb thing to write.

I'd need to upgrade my computer before upgrading from my Vive, so I doubt I'll need it any time soon.

I do want those controllers at some point, though.

Literally a Kickstarter for a multi billion dollar company

When your wands do crap out, which they will because of the design defect that wears out the trackpads over time, the knuckles will either be $20 more than just replacing them, or will be on sale since valve marks down hardware super quick. It's definitely not worth it now, but there'll be no sense sticking with the wands in the future, and valve can afford to play the long game.

>Everyone: I hope now that the initial stages of headsets is over we'll get some cheaper but better quality tech
>Valve: introducing our new $1000 vr experience
At this point id rather get one of those VR headset thingies for my phone since realistically i'll only be jacking off with one anyways

Attached: 15533521282370.png (600x589, 564K)

sucks to be you

Attached: 1553814863811.jpg (1280x1280, 248K)

There are plenty of cheaper sets on the market. WMR sets sell for around $200 or so depending on the OEM, Rift sells for $350 for the set, plus the Vive usually dips to $400 if you hate Facebook. The Index is not trying to compete with those, it's aimed at the Vive Pro/PiMax/other high-end sets.

The resolution in these things isn't that amazing to begin with, I just want to screen door effect to be gone. I also never said the increased refresh rate is bad, just that it's pointless. I'd rather push a higher resolution at 90 frames x3 than a lower resolution at 144 frames x3.

I agree the current price is unreasonable but the Knuckles are an upgrade in every way compared to the shitty vive wands they're meant to replace when standalone. You stand on finger tracking is subjective at best, but I'm more interested in (yes the analaog) but also not have to squeeze the fucking controllers the entire time I'm playing. It'll be nice to actually feel like I'm picking up or letting go of firearms or melee weapons.

Valve should just have made the Index cost 99$ or less. Then it'd be guaranteed that everyone would be able to get one.
Valve don't have to worry about losing money on cost when they got Steam backing them anyway.

Preordered the Rift S. Fuck sensors.

Attached: Capture.jpg (564x81, 8K)

>which they will because of the design defect that wears out the trackpads over time,
I had a quick look at this, and it looks like a very fucking easy fix. I've already had one of my wands open because of a squeaky trigger, which a bit of silicone grease fixed right up.

I can imagine them eventually failing because of sweat damage or something, but honestly I don't know if I'd bother with the knuckles. Valveshit tends to have a lot of QC issues, and thumbsticks aren't something I care much about. Having tactile grip and trackpad buttons is far more important to me.

rez sucks.

Anyone else buy one of these just to resell it to retards at double price?

>Besides the PC fags who constantly say that PSVR is shit and call it mobile tier.

But it do be like that.

>Fuck sensors.
You'll be saying that any time you reach behind

>It'll be nice to actually feel like I'm picking up or letting go of firearms or melee weapons.
I feel the opposite way, because it still won't feel like that. The only difference is that you're now going to be relying on a fucking vibration motor to let you know you've applied enough pressure to activate the grab.

Because you're going to want to have your hands wrapped around the controllers most of the time, using the buttons will feel like shit if you're letting it float with the strap. And I can instantly tell you that playing something like H3VR is going to feel like hot AIDS, because that game already uses a vibration to let you know you're in the pickup circle. So you don't know if your grip vibration is because you moved your hand, or because you gripped something.

An actual button with activation is always superior to force-sensing.

Nobody's going to bother, since you can still buy the individual parts for not much more.

It’s just for porn bro and the occasional game

Aren't they all sold out though? I got two from the first batch so I get them in June, some rich kid is gonna want his then rather than wait and he might buy.

Yes, just like you need some kinda program to run any media file. Dipshit.

Yeah, like i said, i understand the technical bit about actually making it, but not how you can stream an "ordinary" mp4/webm file straight to the VR with all the data it would require. I would expect there to be a special kind of file to store the data in, rather than the usual.

Holy shit you are way underpowered for any VR. Get a 6GB GPU as soon as possible and upgrade your mobo&CPU soon after if you can afford it.

Ah, the bitter poorfag trying to rationalize why he's a broke nigger while everyone on /biz/ from 2016-2017 is multimillionaires today

>these retards buy VR gimmick
lmaoing @ ur life m8

literally on the same page as the ordering

Thats a huge fucking assumption to make that better tech will be cheaper.

I'm assuming those players just project he file on a dome around you, and render a simple 3D space.

holy shit this.

>SURELY VIVE AND OCCULUS WERE EXPENSIVE, VALVE WONT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE AND INSTEAD RELEASE A CHEAPER VR KIT

>$1000

Why are we still stuck on sub 2K resolution?

>Didn't Capcom specifically make a VR port of RE7?
The game was made with VR in mind which is probably why it's shit.

At least it's cheaper than Vive Pro

If you haven’t noticed those specs are from a laptop

>The game was made with VR in mind
No, they started out wanting to hop on the trend of first-person horror games but then they heard about the upcoming VR headsets and were like "Hey, our game could work well in VR"

you had better be just pretending to be that retarded young man

this.

Wrong. Sony made them turn it into something that could push PSVR.

>Sony made them turn it into something
exactly. From a non VR product to a VR product.

They clearly didn't since it plays fine without VR and doesn't use hand tracking.

>t. "those darn bitcorns will never be worth anything! Even at 10 bucks it's just bullshit!"

idk what you were expecting with a laptop.

>~

VR is good for Sims and Simracers (and porn). In fact, I'd go as far as saying that if you don't have a VR headset; you shouldn't even play Simulator games.

Everything else is a trash to medicore experience at best.

So VR isn't necessarily dead, it'll always have a niche. Unlike 3d tvs.

It's bad value desu vr hardware ages so bad
I can't into 3d waifus anyway

lmao, fucking called it

There is something from doaX series for VR, but it's only for PS4 Chads.

$500 for vr controllers from a reseller is too much. Jesus.

The primary market of high end VR is jaded boomers

I'd love to have one but the fact that it's literally useless without a half-decent PC is the real downfall.

Isn't that the whole point of Quest?

>TFW going to get an Index and knuckles and enjoy every minute of it

Feels good not being a dirty poorfag that can't even muster up measly $1000. Most of the doomposters ITT are just jealous that their computers can't even begin to run VR.

Attached: 1439785784652.webm (960x720, 2.47M)

Yeah but it's going to be restricted to videos or mobile-tier graphics.

One would think Yea Forums would be forward thinking and embrace a new technology for games, instead VRfags need to defend themselves from people who HATE VR for some reason.

A fool and his money are easily parted.

Attached: 1 int.png (530x460, 213K)

that cpu is a notebook processor, and laptops can have nvidia graphics chips

will I be able to have a flawless VR experience or has RTX really taken off and I need one of those cards instead? I see people here with 10 series and others are claiming it's underpowered.

Attached: speccs.png (707x429, 21K)

which is why I bought a used vive that I can sell for essentially the same price if I get bored.

I don't think I own a single RTX VR game besides Minecraft
Outside of RTX modes your performance matches

I'm pretty sure you would need unreleased specs to run RTX in VR

Attached: tumblr_oljnyxQQsY1u25kiio2_540.jpg (540x405, 47K)

that's not a mobile gpu though. look at the specs again.

honestly the upcoming rift S looks like it will be "the thing" the makes VR go mainstream

But is spending money on something you enjoy foolish at all?

Attached: 1440636649336.jpg (322x366, 22K)

Rift S is an awkward middle ground, Quest will be the big seller.

hey man, I'm not even the first guy who said it was a laptop. I ain't going down that fucking rabbit hole of headfuckery. maybe it's an external gpu, maybe it isn't and the person just bought a cheap used cpu out of a notebook, maybe we are all being lied to, or it's the ayy lmaos trying to distract us. Point is, I don't care enough to figure this shit out.

Bought a regular Vive a month ago, the 3 year old crappy one with the shit controllers. Had to box it up and send it back when we heard about Valve Index since we knew if we were going to get VR, it was gonna count. Well we've been hooked ever since we tried it and we genuinely miss playing in VR. We cannot wait for Index to come out so we can get back in with actually good controllers, higher res and refresh rate, more comfort etc. The only people who shit on VR are the poor 3rd worlders and NEETfags that cannot afford it.

how the fuck do people still get scammed with the 3gb 1060 in this day and age

Quints of truth
no gaem = no buy

external gpu is a thing now.

It is nice that they made the entire thing backwards compatible. They could've easily jewed people on that.

Attached: DieQLG8.jpg (633x900, 50K)

It keeps happening again and again. I was gonna play games, i swear

They would have no reason to do so.

The real problem is how fucking blurry it is.
I have 300 hours in the CV1 and that was my only problem with it.

>cheap
>runs games well
>anything over $250 for a graphics card is stupid

Not him but I have a 1650 and it runs games great.

Dude money lmao

Attached: fB6vBuT.jpg (1020x677, 126K)

How would they profit from it?

Buying another set of base stations or not being able to pick and choose the headset/controllers so you have to give in and get the entire bundle

A lot of companies try to fuck people like that and it's probably worse for them in the end but they do it anyway

Valve have always been quite open with their SteamVR and lighthouse tracking.

Not even close to being possible.
Valve makes 4 billion dollars per year from steam, VR is just something they're doing for fun.
That's why the Index isn't priced for consumers and that's why they don't give a shit in general. If they made 500K from selling extra base stations they'd throw it in the trash out of disgust of how little money that is.

Attached: 1544752682898.jpg (600x350, 34K)

Quest looks horrible in comparison though, doesn't it?

I don’t understand the knuckles. How do you masturbate if you’ve got to strap shit to your hands?

For the mainstream audience that won't matter.
Remember, PSVR sold like 5 million units.

I was going to preorder one but was too late, might just buy a vive or oculus instead since wait time is do long and then get an index when they are more available.

two fingertips is more than enough

>Naysayers so BTFO they're falling back on 'NO GAMES' and 'they only put 50 units on preorder' memes.

Attached: vvvvvvvvvvvvvvv.jpg (540x815, 44K)

Be warned the SDE is really bad on them
Better off waiting this late in the game

Is VR even at the point where it's worth it for stuff other than games? I know the WWE set up a bunch of cameras for their big shows with VR cameras, but I can't think of any other entertainment companies or sports orgs that utilize it.

Do we know how the Quest performs compared to PSVR? I played PSVR and it was blurry as shit.

I love how the Quest is wireless though. What's the battery life on that thing?

Anyone know why Valve doesn't embrace globalisation and manufacture these in some shithole for pretty much free?
How the fuck is it a good idea to manufacture anything in the U.S anymore?
That's probably $300 right fucking there.

>NO GAMES
name 5 games that aren't tech demos or ports

I want to buy into the VR meme so I can cyberpunk larp and make software for it.

you dont need any input in beat saber besides motion and 1 button (usually trigger), it will always be compatible with any future VR controller

Is it like a Vive and an Occulous combined into one?

Slavery is so 2010's
youtu.be/uCgnWqoP4MM

What’s the market for this? You need like a $2500 computer to use it and there are much cheaper alternatives. Unless Valve has a huge launch of unannounced exclusives, i don’t think this will go well

I bought a Vive on Gamestop store credit alone. I traded in nearly nothing but scratched garbage I bought for pennies on the dollar to trade in for it for a few months.

I'm waiting until more games support the Knuckles before I buy an Index, I already have a Rift so I don't see a reason to get one day 1.

Umm... No. You need a $1400 computer from CyberPower if you want the most out of it. My old GTX 780 did okay with the Vive. It wouldn't play a full AAA game on the Vive, but the 1080ti in my CyberPower will.

Shit, nice.

Maybe I'll just preorder index and wait, is sde better on it?

Nobody wants poorfags shitting up vr so nobody is going to make a poorfag vr headset

lmao fuck Yea Forums holy shit, someone should firing squad all the jaded teenagers in this thread for their own miserable benefit, its only gonna get worse from here

The US needs as many home-based companies as possible. As it stands, most companies here either:

1. Give all the jobs to other countries, reducing the number of available jobs and trained individuals in the country who can teach the younger generation how to do things, as well as lowering the amount of funds in circulation in the country since these other countries don't give as much of the money back to us. Or,

2. Are European-owned and so they live off the fat and take extended vacations while the US works its ass off and becomes one of the top workaholic countries in the world.

Especially when IT is revealed

read the damn thread theres like 20 lists posted every time this comes up
and dont you dare run off with that goal post after youre done it stays right where you left it

>What's the battery life on that thing?
2 Hours, apparently.
The standby is pretty good, only using up 1% after 2 hours yet it's able to be played in seconds.

>Tech demo
See, the problem there is you call anything that, even if it has hours of play, simply because it has VR elements in it. There's no winning.
>or ports
That's irrelevant. A majority of regular games are more fun and immersive in VR, even if it's regular joypad controls. Just because you can play them on a tiny monitor doesn't mean they don't count.

In any case, I know my points are just going to fly over your head and you'll just say "huh but you couldn't name any XD" so here.
Lengthy campaigns: Lone Echo, Wilson's Heart, Blind, Moss, Edge of Nowhere.
Good VR ports: The Forest, Distance, Hellblade, Subnautica, Serious Sam.

Stop being an autist.

did you play them or did you watch youtube videos of them?
do you have VR at all? maybe theres a reason why people who have VR recommend the same games so often?

why didnt valve invite tyler to that event. thats pretty fucked up

I remember a really popular theory among /pol/, /r9k/ and nofappers that watching porn made you both a cuck and a gay (one for being the third person viewer, the second for somehow connecting female moans to pleasure gained by another man)
Does that mean VR pov porn is the single greatest tool to make men manlier alphas?

>I-ITS REALLY BAD, HERE BUY MY TRADITIONAL CONSOLE GAMES LIKE I DO

It's amazing what people have managed to make and do. Yet Yea Forums can't even do a hadoken.

It's a $500 headset though.
The rest of the cost is the lighthouses and controllers.

yes, it should be pretty good. best for SDE is Odyssey+ (which has a physical blur filter over everything), but it looks worse in motion and some people react very badly to it. Index will look like something between Vive Pro (same resolution) and Pimax 5k+ (RGB LCD).

Attached: odysseyplusSDE2.jpg (1920x1080, 887K)

I don't really agree.
The U.S is doing a really great job transitioning to a service based economy, that alongside the people being able to buy ridiculously cheap products leaves the average american with more disposable income than they would have if you guys kept a few more minimum wage manufacturing jobs around.
Remember, the U.S is still the puppetmaster with a lot of overseas manufacturing, almost none of that money escapes to where things are being manufactured.
You're going to have to make the transition to service based eventually anyway so it's best you get a headstart now and don't fuck around and die like we're about to here in Australia.

>implying that valve didnt literally state themselves that it was a limited quantity product.

they literally said it themselves that it is a limited quantity product.

Poorfags really not taking it well.

Pic related should somewhat give u an idea of the quest compared to the psvr. Also, the battery life is expected to be 2-3 hours depending what games you're playing. They do include a long ass cable that you can just charge and play.

Attached: chrome_2019-05-02_13-22-59.png (1046x708, 79K)

Hard to even consider it when it is more than the original Vive price at launch.

Valve themselves stated it already that they were only gonna make a few

Stating it's a limited quantity doesn't mean it's a small quantity.

Because Valve actually aren't evil.

If it makes you feel better, the Index HMD itself is made in China. Probably just a logistics thing, proximity to the components.

The games I've played this year are RE2 Remake, Devil May Cry 5, and Sekiro. I'm also thinking about getting Days Gone and I'm looking forward to Cyberpunk 2077. These are the only kinds of games I play, since I have a job and have other interests besides video games. So, as far as I'm concerned, 95% of VR games are tech demos and mini games. The only one I've played from start to end and enjoyed is RE7, by the way, just to seal the deal for you.

Attached: Screenshot_20190502-162804.jpg (1078x1887, 466K)

>Artificial scarcity is okay when Valve does it

But when the amiibo you want to hotglue is sold out REEEEE NINTENDO WHY CAN'T YOU MAKE ENOUGH FUCKING ARTIFICIAL SCARCITY REEEEE

>I'm also thinking about getting Days Gone
Just wait a month and it'll be in the bargain bin, it didn't do well

Only if we can thrust into waist attached fleshlights
My actual take on it is that porn desensitizes you, making you need crazier fetishes and more unattainable women to get off. That sure as fuck isn't going to go down with VR.

oh shit sorry, if i had known i was arguing with someone with such high taste i wouldve backed off to begin with. clearly you havent played any VR nor know much about it but i will disregard that anyway because you only play the highest of "kino", well done, my mistake

Look up 'relatively' while you're at it. It could have been thousands of units and still be limited. The word just means it's finite.

That I didn't know. If anything, that debunks the 'scarcity' conspiracy even more. What's the point of doing it on a product with a fixed price when you're not going to make more for the hype?

As I said, I played RE7 from start to end. I played a few other games on PSVR but didn't overly enjoy any of them because they were small indie games like what seems to be mostly featured on the lists posted in this thread.

this is true and probably why i like it so much
everyone on it is just a rich boomer having fun, much more wholesome interactions than the super srs kiddie-pool 3rd-worlder fest that regular gaming has become

I have og vive but would recommend oculus quest to every newfag. considering it costs only $400, it's an absolute vr unit

yeah it debunks them using scarcity to drive profitd, but it doesn't debunk

stop talking shit about pc you fag

Why the Quest over the Rift S, or the regular Rift?

>faking scarcity
They're not faking scarcity.
It's real scarcity.
Valve bought a manufacturing company to make their own hardware.
They used this to produce prototype models faster.
They fabricated their own boards for the chips in the devices in-house to speed up the development.
If Valve is having trouble producing enough it's because they are constrained by their production assembly.
Also, who knows how long ago they finalized their revisions.
They could have only just started production of their shipment on the day of announcement.
Why else would you need to per-order instead of outright purchase?
They don't know what the demand will be so they don't want to overshoot their sales.

Right, so they're deliberately cripple their profits on a major product, just so they can say they sold out for a short term headline. That's genius business sense.

og rift's resolution is ass. rift S is tethered and you need a decent pc for it.

what's the fov on the index and rift s?
what was the fov on og rift and vive?
my google doesn't wok

Unfortunately that price is way too steep. I'll stick with my Odyssey+

have they made a VR set yet where movies at least look like 1080p quality or do they still look like shit

Index is around 130, everything else you listed is around 110, though some people claim the original rift is slightly lower. There's no standard for measuring fov in headsets.

They're not crippling anything you fucking moron.

They made what they thought they would sell, that's all there is to it. They looked at the current market for VR equipmen and their target pricepoint, and arrived at a number they thought would be realistic and not leave them in a bad spot if they undersold. There's no fucking conspiracy or underlying marketing schemes. If it turns out there's more demand than they anticipated, they'll make more to meet that demand.

Its pretty fucking simple.

I bet you REEEEEEE'd super hard and cried ARTIFICIAL SCARCITY every time Nintendo released something that sold out, too. They do the same thing, they make what they think they'll sell and made more when demand exceeded their supply. There's nothing to be gained by making too few units and not meeting demand or making too many and having units rot in warehouses, that does not benefit them in any way, shape or form.

Watching movies is probably all the HP reverb's screen will be useful for when it comes out.

>have they made a VR set yet where movies at least look like 1080p quality
You'd need a display with 16k panels for that, and you'd still have to be less than a foot away from your virtual screen to hit that kind of resolution.

Come back in a decade.

I preordered 2, Valve is based and needs the money to buy their exclusives back from Epic

Buy original vive set for 300

Enjoy VR for a few months before the Index hits retailers or pre-order opens again

Toss the vive HMD and buy the Index HMD-only kit.

Enjoy having $560 worth of peripheral and accessories for $300

Heck you might even find some poor soul that is looking to replace his broken Vive HMD and sell it to him for $100-150

Fuck the knuckles, get them later. $280 is STEEP concidering not a lot of game is going to support it day 1

Learn what sarcasm is. I'm calling claim idiotic.

$280 is barely more than what HTC charges for a pair wands, and good luck to him finding a second-hand pair of them with working touchpads in a $300 bundle.

Attached: gadgeteer.webm (1280x720, 2.9M)

Its not idiotic, Valve aren't the ones writing the fucking headlines. They likely did just offer a small number up for ore-order for exactly the reasons I stated. If there's more demand than they anticipated, they'll plan for that.

Because the 8k one wasn't actually 8k.

Threadly reminder: Anti-VR is leftist agenda.
Don't be a leftist. Be on the right side of history and don't get left behind.
Valve should have kept the entire Index project hush hush and only announce that they were looking for developers who'd be interested in the tech. They should not have made ordering it publically availble in limited quantities, especially at a time in what was almost certainly a provocation towards the Oculus event. Ultimately, this sours things not just for themselves, but paints VR in a negative light overall.
As a reminder; VR is NOT a GAMES CONSOLE. The Oculus Quest attempts to simulate this, but the technology alone should not be treated as such. VR does not need the petty argumentitive types that games consoles and graphics cards generate.
We are currently stuck in a negative situation where we likely need to wait a minimum of two additional years for the standard to reach what the Index is going for.

>for the standard to reach what the Index is going for.

Meanwhile communists in china have already surpassed valves shit standard and are the only ones really advancing it forward.

That recent XTAL hands-on video and its through the lens shots nearly ruined current gen VR for me. I was expecting the Index to be able to pull off that 1.0x render resolution too thanks to its fancy lenses. A massive shame.
