There are probably some indie adventure / 2D games that have the same kind of feeling. I saw a 2D indie game called Sundered that had a cool unknown-alien kinda feel to it. Some of the boss music had that brassy sound to it like in the Alien movies too.

It's not. Dead Space 1 is more what you're looking for. Dead Space 3 has the "I'm telling you you're hopeless but not showing you" vibe with its narration, paired with gameplay just being an action game. It's like the difference from Fear 1 to Fear 3. Dead Space 1 has the gritty, impactful, intense combat but also has the atmospheric intensity and sense of dread.

Subnautica and Stalker are great choices. I feel like if you want something more adventure/puzzle there's Obduction which is more of a Myst-like game on an alien world.
