It's been some time since I have played a game with hard dungeons (Hard is the key word, not tedious). Any recommandation outside of dungeon crawlers?

My pic related is from Xenogears and that game lands all the way on the tedious side of the spectrum, so not that.
I'm not a huge dungeon crawler sort of guy but Etrian Odyssey and Dark Spire are pretty cool.

I'm playing the FF games right now, I'm at FFIV and the dungeons have been quite underwhelming so far for FF1 and FF3.
I've always thought that good dungeons were a key part for the JRPGs, but so far I don't remember many games striking the right balance with the length and what's inside the dungeon.

Final Fantasy games have very bland level design for the most part.

Best stratum theme for sure, the progression from the first to the fifth one was great in the first game. And that twist man I wasn't prepared. I have fond memories of the game, all these "Oh shit" moment while exploring, the stress of loosing progress. The difficulty really makes you invest in it.

Babel was decent because it was about the only dungeon in the game that wasn't just bland corridors, it actually felt purposeful.
And then you get to the last section where you have to ride those elevators to the top and if you fall all the encounters respawn, that fucking ruined it.
