Fallout

Was it really that bad?

Attached: fallout-4.png (765x497, 628K)

Worse

It was about the same as Fallout 3 on the whole. Maybe a little better.

I had fun with Fallout 3 and I had fun with Fallout 4 too.

>bellow average shooter
>terrible rpg
i'd say yes.

It wasn't "bad"

It makes Fallout 3 and New Vegas look much better in comparison. The exploration was well enough, Far Harbor and Nuka World added make it pretty good, the voiced protagonist was... mishandled if not inherently flawed, the story was insulting being just a flip of Fallout 3, settlements are pushed too hard.

7/10.

5/10

Making it a mainline entry was a good financial choice but really bad in the long run. If Fallout 4 had been called, I dunno, Fallout: Wastelanders or something and had been focused almost entirely on looting and shooting and building then it would be fondly remembered as a neat spinoff. However, the attempts at being a story driven RPG it makes are fucking pathetic and laughable. I don't know a single person in real life who bought the game and finished it. Most people just played about 10-30 hours of fucking around building and doing side missions before giving up after having their fill.

76 was what they really wanted to do with 4, and they went ahead with it despite the fans' criticism. Ultimately the next Beth game will get the same criticisms but it won't matter because of the casualisation of the market, whereby they'll make record sales - ad infinitum.

its an ok timewaster, the settlement building is meh at best and is pushed way too much, honestly they should have just scrapped it if it was gonna be this halfassed.

companions were decent, some quests were fun some were retarded but thats usually how it goes.

76 was also just horrifically cheap and Jewish. If it had the time and resources poured into it that Fallout 4 had, it may have actually been close to acceptable.

Pretty much me to a tee. I got to the point where you go through the irradiated waste (which was awesome), power-levelled tech and had a monster suit of Power Armor. Didn't give a fuck about settlements or Minutemen. Have never gone back since then and honestly can't enjoy it without getting it running at 60+ FPS (and that's a fucking chore).

fun shooter
shit rpg
horrible entry in the fallout series
4/10 would rather play STALKER

One think I wouldn't mind carrying over from Fallout 4 is making companions matter, a like and dislike system, a perk for gaining their favor, a story for them, New Vegas did the latter brilliantly, keep that.

Elder Scrolls companions don't matter, but they've always had a more special place in Fallout.

The companions are really the only thing of value I can remember of fo4. Just going about the wasteland cleansing the filth with my nigga Danse

It is terribly underrated around here even though it was better than fo3. It was worse than NV tho.

I'll be surprised if tes6 companions aren't at least as fleshed out as f4s. Settlement building will probably also be present in some form given its popularity.

Almost no room for roleplay
Dialogue is railroaded to the "right" choice 90% of the time
Legendary weapons made it that you're more likely to get upgrades from random mobs rather than interesting "dungeons"
Nonsensical overworld, with rival factions seemingly living within 100ft of each other peacefully
Everything is levelled to you so nothing is ever hard or easy, just a constant slog of average
It's another "you're the only one doing anything", despite having the infrastructure to command small armies to do menial tasks

If fallout 4 wasn't a fallout game, I'd enjoy it a lot more. But seeing how they stomped on New Vegas, and even fallout 3, I can't enjoy it.

Unfinished and overall total shit. Have not enjoyed a moment in Fallout 4. It only sold well because it was made for casual players. Fuck bethesda.

The island DLC is a lot better than the main game.

But would have still been criticised by the fanbase.

Question remains, where do they go from here?
Is the franchise buried after 76?
Do you anons think they will ever make fallout 5?

Why wouldn't there be a 5? 4 sold very well and 76 was always intended to be a spinoff.

Unless they go out of business, yes, after either ES6, or Starfield 2.

All they need to make 5 a success is for Todd to come out and say ", Fallout 5, no online, no microtransactions", give a cheeky smirk, and walk off stage

5/10 is probably more fitting, it's very average. Saying that i can't help but keep coming back to it and i have no idea why.

It's better than Skyrim as you don't need 12 million mods to even consider starting up because you drowned out the rest of the game in an attempt to make a shitty porn mod so nah not really.

500 hours in it, 80% of it basically with the settlements. I fucking loved the settlements system.

i dont get why they try to force massive multiplayer on people all the time, literally all people want is a singleplayer game with the option of having a friend play as one of the companions to make it coop

jesus christ thats horrifying

Not nearly as badly. Hell, make it a co-op game instead of whatever the fuck it ended up being and not a mainline game and I think people would have been more accepting of it. Tell people there WILL be a Fallout 4/5 down the line and this is just another way to explore the world for now.

i just want a fallout with optional coop

there is something wrong with you if you enjoy the settlements. its broken and adds nothing to the game

As an RPG it was terrible

NV > 4 >> 3
Hating on 4 this much is just stupid.

It was fun but the focus on base building was trash, the main story was average and it doesn't let you create your own backstory like New Vegas for those who like to dive deep into roleplaying this is a problem.

4's entire gameplay in one note

Attached: wuhdasd9wq511.jpg (1920x1080, 203K)

I have another question. Something about 4 really seemed "off" to me, but I can't say what exactly. Was it quests, or should I say, complete lack of them? Like, you have a couple of cool quests from the start and then, about the time after you kill Kellogg, the quests just vanish. All you left are some radian generated bullshit quests.

It was a bad RPG and had very bland gameplay.

Comfy Fallout 4 Thread? Comfy Fallout 4 Thread.

Why is Purified Water so OP in this game? Not only does it restore shitloads of health, it's easy to farm as the first settlement you get has a huge river that can carry about 20 large water purifiers, meaning you get like 700 every 24 hours in game and can sell them for bucketloads of caps.

I like these kinds of broken mechanics, kind of like potions in morrowind, makes bethesda games have charm.

Attached: images (1).jpg (168x300, 7K)

bethesda literally cannot balance a game

Attached: 1455115643787.jpg (1280x1280, 380K)

For every good idea, it felt like there was a "but"
>Guns are highly modifiable
But there's only 10 or so, and no alternate ammos
>Game character is voiced
But there's only four options when talking.

Also, hate how Bethesda always uses the same fucking enemies. No-name generic raiders, super mutants, animals with an extra head, and deathclaws with either a prefix or a suffix.

Not to mention
>guns are highly modifiable
But almost every modification is just upping numbers. Plasma and laser weapons are the only ones with any sort of flavour in modding. Basically everything else just has a best in slot and every other mod is worthless

yes

that is every single rpg ever though so what is your point?

you didn't find the railroad did you?

can you tell me how to do this?

It's not bad at all. It's a pretty above average game compared to what had come out that year and I can still find some enjoyment out of crafting weapons and robots. But out of the other fallouts? It's really underwhelming and you could find much better experiences from NuFallout like 3 and NV. Decent game, bad fallout

it was basically just post-apocalyptic Far Cry with a dialogue system instead of cutscenes.

cute

based and redpilled

Settlement would be fun if you had to defend them for more than 10 seconds at a time.

I remember putting a carrot in piper's ass.

There's some guides on reddit I think, but it's pretty simple. Haven't played the game in a while but, you know how in settlements you can build water purifiers? Well build the largest type of water purifier, and as many of them as you can, in Sanctuary Hills. Then every 24 hours or so, check your workbench, you'll find hundreds of new purified water bottles deposited there. Just pick them up and fast travel to vendors in the city and sell them. If you build vendors in your settlement it's even easier.

Fallout 4 is objectively not "fun" to explore. The map is levelled. The loot is levelled. There is no story telling whatsoever with item placement. You know that everywhere you go, itll be a somewhat linear dungeon with a teasure che- uh steamer trunk with some ammo, a leveled weapon and a pipe rifle.

I think the worst example of this was the secret listening station underneath the abandoned shack. What could it hold? Evidence of some enclave activity, or some notes abotu their history in the area? Some secret prototype device? A new map being shown on the wall with a possible future game?

No. Its fucking bethesdas fallout 4, so you get a bunch of copy pasted enemies, a leveled frame of power armor, and a fucking steamer trunk. Fuck that game.

Get science, get materials to build large water purifiers, build as many as you can and enough turrets to have more defense than water+food so you don't get attacked
Every time you go back to that settlement you'll have 100+ purified water in the workshop inventory
Alternatively that water also counts to supply other settlements if you set up supply lines, so if you have a water settlement and a farming settlement, you basically never need to worry about setting up anything except defense

awesome! thanks

+combat less hideous
+power armor is lots of fun
-voiced MC is awful
-SPECIAL is boring now, VATS equally so
+scavenging feels meaningful
+comfy gas station house
-almost zero capacity for roleplay
+base building is a fun autism side-project

if you go into the game without wanting to hate it, you will have fun.

Bobbleheads for major locations, magazines for minor locations, and everywhere else just has standard levelled loot. There's what, 5 actually unique weapons and armour pieces in the game? A small handful more with DLC. Everything else is just legendaries with little to no value.

I can't bring myself to be angry at Bethesda or Todd Howard anymore. Their job is simply to sell games, after all, and Skyrim and Fallout 4 were excellent products in this regard. Fallout 4 is inexusable garbage in all aspects except maybe the technology, which is bearable. Seeing a competent developer get their hands on the IP and Fallout 4's engine would be awesoem.

I would argue that the voiced protagonist is a fundamentally terrible idea for an RPG in addition to being poorly implemented in F4.

its a classic case of 'this is what the normies want' when in actuality, normies are perfectly fine with text as long as its not walls of text.

I think it's a 6/10 because I honestly think it's a better than "average" game

but it's NOT a better than average Fallout game

If I were rating on a 1-10 scale with 10 being the best Fallout and 1 being the worst Fallout I would give it a 2 and Fallout 76 would get a 1

compared to fallout 3:
>better gunplay
>marginally better rpg mechanics
compared to fallout new vegas:
>better gunplay
>worse rpg mechanics
>worse story
>worse quests
>worse characters

enjoyable if you turn off your brain

>Significantly worse roleplaying than any of the RPG titles in the same franchise before it
>Seriously, everything that makes a WRPG great has been downgraded compared to the 4 proper Fallouts before it
>Gunplay is mediocre at best and as clumsy as a shitty late 90s build engine shooter at the worst
>Village building gimmick as awkward to use and unrewarding
>Piss poor performance for the level of visuals provided
>Even the DLC with a decent setup is plagued by awful design choices
If BoS and 76 didn't exist it would easily be the worst Fallout. 6/10 if you're feeling generous.

Attached: serveimage.jpg (1200x675, 72K)

It was bad considering what I expected, but I like it and think the Far Harbor DLC is a good display of what Fallout 4 would have been in an ideal world. It's half-baked but enjoyable.

>Village building gimmick as awkward to use and unrewarding
infinite money ammo junk and drugs is unrewarding?

I saw some gameplay where you get a mission to kill raiders. The raiders are just a stones throw away and don't do anything and so pose no urgency, and the quest giver was more than able to eradicate them. Shit's dumb

>Gamebryo
>terrible RPG elements
>terrible shooting aspect
>terrible melee aspect
>all other aspects are lack-lustre
>boring and non-memorable soundtrack
>boring and non-memorable characters save a few companions
>boring crafting, settlement and trading system
>years behind other open world rpgs and fps' in all aspects
>broken bethesda levelling and enemy scaling
>shit main quests, side quests and misc quests
>faction system is barely developed
>downgraded perk system
>karma system removed
>skill system removed
>trait system removed
>yes, yes (sarcastic), maybe later (yes), yes if you pay me more
>lore retcons, discontinuities and inconsistencies
>shit DLC (FH was ok)
>recycling enemies and factions
>shit graphics and performance for 2015
>terrible AI makes

It's shit in any measure or genre, a 4/10 at best
Anyone calling it a good FPS and terrible RPG has never played a good FPS in their life
OG Doom and Wolfenstein are better shooters/FPS'

Just because combat isn't as shit as it was in 3/NV doesn't mean it's a good FPS/shooter, it's still shit

Attached: 0be50cc5f925691e930cf5f707c9e607.jpg (1200x1294, 246K)

It's fun
Settlement system was great

Felt more like an OCD cleaning/recycling simulator than a RPG.
