Is there a noobs' guide to fight sticks? I don't know what I should get as a first stick, don't even have a budget range. I'm currently playing DOA6 but I'm interested in learning older titles you can play free on GGPO.
Is there a noobs' guide to fight sticks? I don't know what I should get as a first stick...
Grab anything with sanwa parts basically. Don't buy small sticks like the one in your pic, they are garbage.
Anything with Sanwa or Hori parts.
Fight sticks are memes, don’t get one unless you actually like how it feels
This. It's purely subjective.
well, hes gonna have to get one to actually know how it feels.
only real advice I can give is get something heavy so it doesn't move easily when you use it. you can adjust to almost anything else but a moving stick is just pointless to own
If you want it to last don't be cheap about it, try to spend the extra cash on a nice one with good parts because cheap ones WILL break and then you're going to end up spending even more on parts or another replacement
Are you ever planning to play in an arcade?
Find some arcade machine and try it to know how it feels, because it is very possible you find it awkward to play something like that
Why haven't they made a wireless fight stick yet?
They did.
Where is it?
Well why exactly do you want one in the first place? There are actual benefits to using sticks but it still helps to know the reason.
There are, I know the Tekken 6 Collector's edition had one but it had latency issues.
>it's another fightsticks are memes claim on Yea Forums
inhale water
Literally takes 5 seconds to google. Now explain why you would want additional input delay when winning or losing can depend on 1-2 frames of input windows.
i own two of the ones in your pic. swapped in sanwa parts and really enjoy them. i'm also a filthy casual
I don't really care about winning every match, I think I competitve gaming is for faggots. I just want to casually use a stick from a distance instead of being up close to my TV.
I have extremely fucked genetics small hands, are there any micro sets with small buttons that still have that nice clicky feel?
People tell me arcade sticks are terrible for shmups but the only times I have gotten 1ccs on MAME or Steam releases has been with the stick.
Explain?
Qanba Obsidian
Microset? Anyway you can probably just get a custom one that uses 24mm buttons instead of the 30mm default ones.
It is absolutely a meme when you have people who have never touched a fighting game in their life buying a 200 dollar stick out of the gate. Or people who unironically think that a fightstick would make them better at the game they play. There’s nothing wrong with sticks themselves, I get triggered by stupid people wasting their money on something they might not even feel comfortable using
They look fun
>Find some arcade machine
You mean go outside?
You are the cancer killing this board. Not only are you a casual but you can't even fucking use the internet.
Lose some weight, faggot.
Thats because they're using shitty Santa's. Seimistsu is much better. Ls-32 is standard in jap arcades
LS-32 is a piece of shit
>illustrate that some dumb people buying sticks is a meme
>therefore the stick itself is a meme
What? People making poor decisions with money is not the fault of an inanimate object. Yes players should try or rent a $5 stick at a venue before they commit but it still has inherent advantages over pad.
I got that one but it was the 500 version.
$85
Works on my
PS4
PC
Switch
Added a seimetsu stick+ game finger buttons and it's top tier for platformers and 2d games which is what I use mine for.
>Played through Castlevania SoTN and hallow knight with it
Such a great experience.
Not him but it's better for shmups. Still, this is a fightan thread so sanwa it is. Also keyboard is still infinitely more precise.
Sanwa parts + PS4 compatibility in some capacity and you're golden. I recommend any old Madcatz/HRAP you can get for cheap because the Mayflash sticks need to use some bluetooth fuckery to be used on consoles and that inherently puts you at a disadvantage in fighters.
>Or people who unironically think that a fightstick would make them better at the game they play
Fighting sticks "unironically" do make you play better in a lot of fighting games. And I don't even just mean people who know how to play the game. Try playing Street Fighter on 360.
>it's $60+ now at Playasia.
>my money barely clears it.
For fuck sakes. Gonna need to bank in later.
Does it need the Pro controller for the switch?
not gonna lie, i'm mostly buying this because i wanna draw something for the artwork.
Yes. Because you are taking the risk of wasting money for something you may not feel comfortable to play with
I want to get one for shmups I heard the ls40 is better is that true?
Nope. No controller needed, only for the PS4 and Xbox.
Buy something on the more expensive side that's going to last. I've had my stick for almost 10 years now and it's still perfect despite all the abuse, it's built like a fucking tank.
>People tell me arcade sticks are terrible for shmups
Touhoufags playing on keyboard aren't people.
>Tfw was on the fence since it's 90 bucks on Amazon
>Checked playasia its 20 less
Ordered one, thanks for telling me user.
>implying you can't change directions faster on a keyboard let alone tap more precisely
Obviously they are not terrible but come on.
What are you guys playing right now anyway? I need to scratch my itch but every other game seems to be hibernating until E3/EVO announcement season.
Metal Slug, they're pretty fun. was thinking of getting into shmups but I'm not sure what one to play, Radiant Silvergun looks cool
UMVC3 because it's on sale on pc, not very good at it but i always liked watching it at tournaments
I know, keyboards are great. I just wanted to shit on Touhoufags.
The "waiting for Samsho on PC" game. For shooters I was thinking of buying Graze Counter but I'm not sure I need more games I'll barely play. I also want to 1cc arcade Strider. Can't be that hard, right?
killer instinct and tekken 7
>playing something right now while KSB is in full swing
just use a keyboard
Do people buy their $50 sticks? Is there much difference?
>I think I competitve gaming is for faggots
shitter
No market for it. Fighting game players don't like wireless controllers because of input lag.
>using mushy virgin sanwa buttons and not exquisite chad seimetsus
Tekken 7
I play Tekken 7 but I'm hoping someone will gift me UNIST unless I can get some money together for it.
im better at street fighter with a xbox controller than a stick, what now faggot?
>lying on the internet
cringe
im not lying, but i really am better with a controller than a stick
>playing a tourney of ranma½
Not him but try the 8Bitdo one. It's supposedly built to be customized if you don't like the vanilla buttons and is reasonably priced.
many of us started that way, but the best players in the world play on stick. Your ceiling is lower on a pad. Right now you're better on pad, if you put in the time your ceiling with pad is lower than with stick and you will someday be better with a stick than you ever could have been on pad.
>can afford a stick but not UNIST
wat
If you're on PC (Like you should be), you can get any of the various good Xbox 360 sticks for dirt cheap. You cant go wrong with a Madcatz TE.
I put together the stick a long time ago and my financial situation was different then.
Sorry to hear. Hope good fortune finds its way towards you.
Fight sticks are a meme when you play on pc. Just use your keyboard it's like a hitbox with smaller keys. So why would you get one when keyboards and hitbox is far superior. Only get one when your only other option is to play on pads. Pads are shit for fighting games and only retards who can't afford a stick/good keyboard/hitbox or are too lazy to learn a new input device play on pads. There is not one scenario where a pad would be better.
Wait you got to find a bunch of pieces and stick them together yourself? I still have nightmares from endless hours of reading reviews on different sites for pieces when i built my pc and then worrying if they would work once i put them together, it was boring hell.
No
I'm not in a bad way or anything, I'll be able to afford UNIST in a bit, golden week sale fell on the same time I pay rent so I'm broke for now and don't get paid again until it's over. Maybe I'll get it next sale or something.
>anime
holy fucking cringe
you can piece them together or buy them pre built
I do agree that hitbox is probably the best input method but it's so fucking bad to get used to doing motions that I'm just going to stick with a stick.
>Brought Hori RAP N
>Can't stop playing 3rd Strike because I want to get use to using a stick.
I'm getting there but I want to get used to playing shmups with it as well.
>I still have nightmares from endless hours of reading reviews on different sites for pieces when i built my pc and then worrying if they would work once i put them together
I'm in that boat right now, it's been Hell these two weeks
Some of the greatest fighting game players in the world play on pad these days, there's no shame in it. Tons of people coming up today have never set foot in an arcade.
Hitbox is probably the best but if you also play games on MAME and whatnot you're going to want that arcade stick to replicate the controls. Or atleast I do or my nostalgia immersion breaks.
I've never done it but you can, for cheaper, and get exactly what you want. The inside of a stick isn't that intimidating actually, kinda makes you wonder why they're so expensive.
Good to hear
>Matsudaira

I can understand that. A stick isn't that bad. What made me angry are all the posts i found on the internet that recommend pads over keyboards.
I researched it a few years ago and seen many of these posts over the following years.
It really boggles my mind how many people say pads are just as good as sticks or a hitbox
and think they are far superior in comparisson to keyboards.
The reality is keyboards are the same thing as
a hitbox with smaller buttons and everyone
who is interested in a hitbox and doesn't know
if he wants to spend money for one should
first try out to play one a keyboard.
I personally owned a stick and modded it into a hitbox. I never looked back. A stick or dpad just can't compare to it.
>Some of the greatest fighting game players in the world play on pad these days, there's no shame in it
This doesn't proof anything. They would be much better if they would use a superior input device. If the best Dark Souls speedrunner would use a DDR dance pad that wouldn't mean it's the best input method.
I get the second part of your post though and think people can use whatever they want to play their games. It only makes my blood boil when people just can't see why a certain way of doing things is better in most cases.
