Playstyle really hasn't changed, and he has the same strengths and weaknesses, but it's just so much more doable (a part of me misses smash 4 up smash though)

I have to be retarded or something because this is one of my hardest matchups. There’s a guy at my local scene who plays Chrom and Robin (I assume he likes Awakening), and while I can go even with Chrom, his Robin rapes me every time. He keeps trapping me at ledge with arcfire and punishing me, and when I asked for advice in those situations he keeps telling me “don’t get hit by it in the first place”.

In the past I said that I'd main K. Rool whether he was the worst character in the game or the best character in the game if he could just make it in in the first place.
I'm happy with how things turned out, he's loads of fun.
Also picked up Ridley as a secondary. Was going to take back the trainer as a secondary since I'm thrilled that my brawl main came back but they just don't feel right in Ultimate and I don't know why.

It was at a tournament but I wasn't competing because I still suffered from choking and nerves at the time. I beat his Greninja in a friendly. It's something I guess.

Cloud. I mained Charizard in 4 but Zard's gotten so bad now, and I really don't like the way Squirtle plays. I've always got a pocket Falco but I've played him way less than I have any any game hes appeared in. One thing I don't like about Falco is that, for whatever reason, it seems like in every game you have to play him way differently than you did in the previous game. I think he's better than he was in Smash 4 though at least.

but yeah I'm maining Cloud because I like how he plays and I like FFVII.

It's strange, my best characters tend to be DK, Dedede, Palutena, and Yoshi. I don't know how the last one happened, people just point out my Yoshi's really good for some reason.

Honestly I like Ken the most probably but I fucking hate the auto-facing mechanic so god damn much. I miss RAR bair a lot, especially RAR bair into b-reverse shoryu on shield which always felt super satisfying as Ryu in Sm4sh. I also REALLY miss the sour fair or weak nair>footstool>jablock>focus attack sequence too so Ken just doesn't feel quite right for me. But then again, no one feels quite right for me in Ultimate. I've been a Dedede main since Brawl but I've grown a bit tired of him after ten years. I also like Joker, Greninja, Wario, DK, and Shulk in Ultimate but again no one feels quite right for me. If they tweaked the shotos a bit I'd be set but since that's not gonna happen I'm just hoping for a win with the DLC at this point because I don't really enjoy anyone enough to sit there and lab out their tech like I did with autistic Gordo placement and Ryu footstool practice in Sm4sh.

Pretty sure most high tier+ characters are.

I've never played the street fighter crew and I don't understand the auto-facing at all. i feel like it is such a drawback to perform certain combos. I could be wrong though. DDD seems like a really good contender in Ultimate though if you're burnt out I can really see your point. i hope you come across a main soon and/or a gifted with a dlc character who feels right for you.

There's honestly a strong argument for which between Melee and Ultimate is the best.

Seems like Brawl is always on the third place just because of the subspace emissary.

Nobody seems like they played the original.

4 is clearly getting hated the most and only the former pro-players who failed to transition to Ultimate seems to like it now.

I need to rant here for a bit, anons.

I have mained samus since melee and it HURTS to play as her. I feel I need to be working and thinking several times harder than other characters. Either I am able to predict what's my oponent's next move or I'm completely fucked. Then you find some falco or fox or most non-heavy characters and you feel they don't really need to think ahead. They just spam nairs or smash attacks I can't really punish because they can flee out of them before Samus can do anything. Also battlefield is way too small to take advantage of my arsenal against some of the quick characters. Plus the projectile nerf in 3.0 hit her hard because breaking shields was very important to her game.

Probably i'm just whining and need to git gud but I can't shake the feeling that she has it rough. Stuck at 4.4mill btw.

projectile heavy characters are at a disadvantage in Ultimate especially compared to fast characters and characters with quick reflectors. i wouldn't give yourself too much hell. the nerf was definitely another drawback.

Have you made a samus mii gunner? This doesn't unsnib the snab, but it is a good fun alternative to samus.
I main Jiggly, and frankly it is painful what they've done to rest. Unless you catch somebody in the air or on one of the upper platforms it is almost never viable. A smash attack is always safer and more reliable. It is laughably ineffective against heavys, but it still is a very fun mechanic. Its just disheartening to finish a sick combo chain on an opponent leaving them at around 60, landing the rest and then seeing them come back to the stage. Still, her of stage game is my favourite of any character.

Thanks user. I've been losing a lot lately against people i'd swear is not better than I am. I starting to get pretty mad when i see someone choosing flowchart-heavy characters because even if they are predictable, I can't punish them as hard as I should. Plus MUDA MUDA MUDA jabs are bullshit and not fun. They come out fast, up your percentage and work as kill moves at high percentage and you can barely get out of them, but that's probably a case of sour grapes because samus' jab is officially useless.

Thanks for the (you) but I refuse to use those mii characters. Plus I can't really feel sorry for you because jigs is tiny and Samus is so lanky that I can't hit it at all, and it's even harder with projectiles. Plus jig's air attacks are just disgusting and can get you killed at low % without escape if the player knows what he's doing.

Personally i like to get up close and personal and pressure with bombs a lot, and use grabs or zair whenever they try to get away

The best advice I can give as someone who's tried Shulk out, but is still subpar at this game is, master your short hop aerials and the way you space them. Dtilt and Utilt are some of your bestfriends.

In terms of what the monado arts do, Speed is for combos and catching landings with Utilt. Buster is for big boi damage. Jump is for recovery and going for deep edgeguards. No need to explain Shield, but try to use this when you're getting comboed. Same thing for Smash, which couples well with Air Slash, though spacing is even more crucial here.

Samus is a lot of fun but the problem is that in higher level play you absolutely need to keikaku your oponent or you don't stand a chance.

That's their mistake, probably. You can be very agressive against samus up close because she's too slow out of her shield to punish anything. And you can forget about grabbing out of shield because some smash attacks come out faster than that. Samus' grab is, again, for hard reads. Most characters are fast enough so it doesn't get them.

Bad compared to other matchups, but he still has approach options against zoners. The other user is right, Ridley still has nair neutral special, its not as steep a hill to climb when compared to DK's matchup against zoners.

Heavy main forever here, Ultimate has felt like finally made my playstyle viable. Don't have a set main yet but I cycle through my old favorites Bowser, ROB, and Ganon, but this game has me pitching up DK and Ike now because good lord they feel incredibly satisfying in this game.

But ROB for life overall. He's so much fun, and people still don't know how to deal with him at times which makes it even better.
