-Clownpiece is now a deuteragonist in fairy manga
-Hecatia is an important character in fairy manga and AFiEU

Now, for Touhou 17, taking the Hell setting and the power struggle that's occurring there according to manga, there might be some big shots that is related to things that have happened in the lore, like 4th oni, Kishin who chase hermits, etc. At least it won't be just filled with youkais that just happen to be there like most of HSiFS cast.

I can't, it's my favourite stage theme.

TD in general has a pretty mediocre OST. Outside of Futatsuiwa from Sado it's not got much going for it. Probably the least memorable Stage 6 boss theme outside of the PC98 games, too.

It's a shame, because the varying soundtracks between spirit and non-spirit versions was a really cool idea.

Stage 1, 3 and 4’s themes are great. Boss themes are kinda meh, true

It's probably just me. They were okay when ZUN's UNTZ was kind of a new and novel thing, but when that's a lot of stage themes now they kind of blur together in my brain. I don't have the same problem with the pre-UNTZ era, all the stage tracks had very distinct themes and suitable atmospheres to me, but then PCBs and MoF's actually sound appropriate to their respective seasons to me. It just makes sense, for some reason.

TD osts may not be as catchy as other themes but I think it captures the atmosphere really well more so than any other games. Night Sakure of Dead Spirits and Dream Palace Great Mauseleoum are still among my favorite ost in the series. Desire Drive is also immensely popular in Japan.

Most people may don't like Small Desire's Starry Sky but I think in terms of ZUNtz I think nothing has topped it yet.

I honestly couldn't feel much of any atmosphere in TD, definitely not compared to the games between 7 and 11. PCB sounds like the lingering of winter drawing into spring, MoF is autumnal as fuck, IN has a level of nighttime foreboding at the beginning that builds into a rapidly escalating sense of urgency as the night begins to end culminating in Voyage 1970, SA gives an exciting adventurous to sorrowful and solemn atmosphere as you descend into the underground that matches areas you enter before going balls out on threat and drama when you reach the Hell of Blazing Fires and fight Utsuho. It all matches the scenario and visuals really well. Even, say, LoLK managed something similar, particularly in Stage 6, but I never got that from TD. But again, that might just be me.

Yeah I agree with this but at the same time I think the music fits Miko's character, at least on the good parts.
Miko isn't some powerful youkai that can flip nature or reality with her hand or a tragic character, she is just a legendary figure. So the music doesn't feel as threatening or melancholy like other bosses.
However, it does capture the "she is the legend and a genius" feeling, well except the guitar parts.

Dream Palace Great Mauseleoum is a great music when you flight into the tower full of spirits. The melancholy really fits the stage. Well, maybe it's just me.

Honestly for me, the entirety of Shoot the Bullet taught me to see spellcards as puzzle games plus execution, as opposed to "bomb as much as possible" in the mainline games. Shoot the Bullet is where I really practiced a million attempts at things that seemed super crazy and impossible for a noob like me at first, and it was the type of format of game where I didn't even want to see pro replays of how to do each spell because that's kinda like giving away the answer; I wanted to spend time developing my own strategies and solutions to spells on my own.

Yknow, it's kind of like the concept of "mathematical maturity" in university math, which is where you learn to look at complicated math not as overwhelming you because you're too stupid and incompetent to handle it, but something you're capable of if you put the time into understanding it. Shoot the Bullet gave me a "bullet hell maturity" which I took from that and started applying to the mainline games once I "understood" how to not be intimidated by the flashy attack patterns as a noob scrub whos just not talented at bullet hells, and just buckle down and git gud. That transition was really satisfying and rewarding, and made me appreciate pattern designs much more.

Stb and DS are still among my favorite touhou games overall. This was my first shmup series, so even though I understand the shot-type, 5 or 6 plus extra stages + boss fights arcadey formula of the mainline games, the photo games appealed to me as a completionist, self-contained puzzle-like challenge where you could focus on the variety of boss characters and their themes - it made gitting gud feel more incremental and concrete. It's also convenient to focus on practicing spells, because you can retry each as many times as you want without going through a stage (and only a few earlier windows games had practice mode for specific spells). I'd honestly say Stb and DS are great as both introductions and summaries of the touhou series.

If we ignore the moe aspect, Youmu is one of the most unique characters in the entire series. She has a fairly elaborate backstory (disappearance of Youki) and is one of the few characters that are actually entirely original to the point that even her species is original.
She also is the only reoccurring playable character in the mainline games who doesn't live in Gensokyo, so she has a very different perspective. In contrast to most other characters she also has multiple interesting occupations.
How is Youmu not an interesting character?

I think every PC in Touhou is curious/doubtful since it's a way to make the plot move forward.
I think judging from few quotes and official story, she is indeed dutiful and diligent, yet more naive and absent-minded than Sakuya. An example I can remember is the quote "If I don't understand it, I'll just cut it" or something like that in IaMP.

Generally speaking, Youmu is a hardworking but ultimately naïve girl. Her exact personality is a bit blurry, but still relatively consistent. I'd say it depends on the context: She's rather shy around her friends, but always very straight-forward and overly serious about the things she sets her mind on. She's usually even a bit arrogant during incidents.

That's just a meme. She's not actually scared of ghosts, only scary stories. It's an abstract fear. The weird part is rather that phantoms typically like that kind of stuff.

IN Reisen is just a typically ocerconfident bosses in Touhou, but judging by other works yeah, she likes to boast about the moon and her race despite being renegade. Other than that she seems to be more logical and collected person.
I speculate that she ran away during the war because she thought that the battle was pointless or she realized she was only used as fodder.

Reimu was always more about small hitbust size and homing for survivability.

Right now, my ideas are a shoot'em up/run n' gun/twin-stick shooter amalgamation, or Touhou-COM: Lunarian Defense. Both ideas will probably prove to be overly ambitious, but we'll see.

Utsuho being dumb/airheaded does get overplayed, given how coherent she was in SA. She's far from the only character to suffer such a fate from the fandom, though. Practically all of them have one or two traits that everyone seems to focus on and exaggerate.

Reimu's shots typically play it very safe in terms of gimmicks, so she's never busted and only best in games where nobody else is busted (arguably UFO, SA). Really the closest she comes to being busted is IN, but that shot isn't exactly there yet.
Oh, and if you count PoFV, Reimu is broken in that game to the point of often being banned from tourneys.

The point being that Reimu shouldn't be "cornered" so long as FH is involved, you can't corner something you can't even interact with. Maybe it's a stalemate because even Reimu doesn't know how to put down oni for good, but she can surely spam bean danmaku from within HF and make Kasen have a really nasty time even if it won't kill her.

Yukari by all rights should not be able to counter Fantasy Heaven, ZUN's description circa IN stated Reimu was untouchable to anything in that state, obviously Yukari would've been factored in by that point. And if Yukari can't, the other Sages would only be likely to fare better if they specifically know how to counter it with an ability more broken than Yukari's, which they might have but who knows. Reimu hasn't used it yet for some reason, maybe there's some contingency on her using it outside of SPR duels that has dire consequences or some other shit ZUN didn't bother to expand upon.

I think Okuu kinda suffer from a bit of ADHD.
As someone who used to suffer from ADHD it's a condition where you use less of your brain capacity/function than normal which results in forgetfulness, recognition problem and limited level of thinking, and it feels like part of your brain is blocked from functioning. In other words, you become a birdbrain.
However, it doesn't stop you to do well enough in subject you're interested in, in exchange that all of your attention and brain function only focus on that subject/tasks.

Now to relate it to Okuu, she is forgetful ( that one time she forgot what she was supposed to do), has recognition problem (she can't differentiate between two shrine maidens and misinterpreted orders) and being generally known as birdbrain overall.
However, she is shown to be able to work with nuclear physics and doing her job without problem, and judging by her fondness of nuclear energy you can tell it's the subject she is interested in, thus she can focus and handle the power perfectly. I won't be surprised if she expertise in nuclear physics.

Also, one thing to note that she cares about her master Satori and judging from one of her quotes that she cares about the underground as well, so despite her initial motive I think Okuu is gentle at heart.

Some of them actually could easily happen.

-The beasts are definitely going to float around. It depends if improving your shots/bomb is crucial or not.
-HSiFS won't happen again
-ZUN tends to dodge expectation, sometimes not in the good way. Oni might not appear, but Kishin does.
-Lack of resources is rare cases, I think.
-Setting in 2hu games always switch around, but I'm fine as long it's still connected to hell.
-I don't think staying in one exact same setting ever happens in 2hu game
-It's common that the first 3 bosses are unrelated to the plot
-I don't think there will be a new playable

My fears are:
-There will be broken shots since the gimmick mess around with it, and that is enough to cheese the game easily.
-horrible bug in the game that doesn't get fixed
-underwhelming characters, music, gameplay, etc

I'm personally not fond of EX Rumia (frankly it's an overused cliche in fanworks), however it does work well as a metaphor I think.
I like to believe that ZUN introduced Rumia with the intent that she represent the average, run-of-the-mill youkai. So her having some sealed away power could be a metaphor for how the youkai of Gensokyo as a whole are a shadow of their former glory, having been forced to preserve themselves in a cloistered off region and restricting themselves for the sake of stability.

Sumireko as the fourth playable character. I think she has a really high chance of making it in as well.
