Also wouldn't mind opinions on Bravely Default and anything else.
I'll give you my personal impressions on them and my general advice as well.

Stella Glow
I only played the demo. This was very expensive for a 3DS game on release. The art style is lovely and I hear you can impregnate a witch girl. Good beginner's TRPG from what I've seen, not too hard.
The Legend of Legacy
I am probably the only one on Yea Forums who liked this game, but fuck man I loved it. If you've heard of SaGa, this is essentially a lighter version with much of Minstrel Song's elements in it. A very odd game, it lacks a real main "plot" and doesn't hold your hand, instead leaving you to find out the backstory for yourself and opening optional areas, items, etc. while you go along. Possible to get stuck because it doesn't tell you where to go either. A JRPG on the extreme end, lacking in story and almost entirely relying on the game. Has an extremely sharp difficulty curve.
The Alliance Alive
Now this one, while it looks similar to The Legend of Legacy, is not the same thing, and only has a couple small easter eggs calling back to it. A standalone title from the same dev, this is one of my favorite games on 3DS. More involved story, likeable cast, and lots of optional areas, recruits, and things in it. A nice world to explore on a flying ship, giant bunny, dragon, etc., and little to no grinding at all. Not the longest game (particularly for a JRPG), but I loved it the most. This is also getting an HD multiplat port but I would still recommend this one for the bottom screen map and telegram system. Great game, can't recommend it enough.

Stella Glow
This game is beloved by many. You'd probably enjoy this a lot if you're into the genre.
The Legend of Legacy
I love this game, but you probably wouldn't enjoy it. It falls in that weird space of too easy for SaGa fans, too hard to get into for normal JRPG fans, and it doesn't try and ingratiate itself.
The Alliance Alive
Play this one. It's damn good.
Stella Glow is really slow, which works against it hard. Sometimes I found it hard to push through the combat. The turn system goes on an individual unit basis like tactics, but there are long stretches of times where the game goes through every enemy unit turn, where each enemy takes a couple of seconds just to wait and do nothing. It kills the flow of battle hard. That said, the map design itself is great, the cast is fun, and the music is stellar. I liked all the girls too.
Alliance Alive feels way too basic. I guess its good if you're just getting into jrpgs, but if you have any familiarity with the genre it might not hook you.
I enjoyed it. It reminds me of Skies of Arcadia a little, and having the Suikoden writer shows. It's not the biggest, and it's not the most ambitious, but it's still a good game.
Was a lot more complex than most of the shit this board claims is the pinnacle of the genre
I really enjoyed BD, but having to fight the same bosses over and over again, for the job classes they normally mix up the battle which is fair but the crystal bosses are basically the same
It also has on of my favorite final boss themes out of all JRPGs youtu.be
SMTIV / IVA
seconding
it's pretty slow from what i remember and doesn't improve over time
also i didn't like the music
Etrian Odyssey IV
It was also easy. Still worth it though.
>didn't like the music
heresy, everyone disregard this man
You are thinking of Legend of Legacy
AA is not slow in the slightest
AA>SG>LL
i think it's SUPER gay.
Stella Glow was fantastic, I absolutely loved playing through that game. The combat can be a little slow, but it's really not that bad. It makes up for it in literally every other aspect. Very fun, great girls, superb music and an interesting story with some nice twists.
Time>Wind>Fire>Earth>shit>Water
A kind of compromise is playing on an Emulator and ramping up game speed to 150-300%,
though that means disregarding the game music during battles or maybe only slowing down the game back for the big dramtic fights.
Cardboard > all.
USUM
BD is great, but at a certain point you'll just plow through the boss like if they were paper thin.
Also if already got spoiled the "plot twist" I guess it is not worth to buy. Maybe play FF3 or 4 is better.
The music is great, the cast was fun for me, and the grind pleasant.
The system of command being able to use only one hand was comfy as hell to play in bed because often you got cramp if you play for long sleepless sessions.
Oh and stupid class combos can break the game easily if you dare want to understand the system a bit.
Oh and last but not least : You want to travel somewhere without random encounters ? You can turn them off in the menu.
Hope that helps !
Stella Glow looks nice but the gameplay is hot garbage and is quite possibly the worse SRPG ever.
You've played next to no SRPGs if you seriously believe that.
Legend of Legacy is shit
But Alliance Alive is nice
Yokai Watch is pretty good. I'd also probably recommend SMT4 and EO4/5.
3DS has a really strong library for a handheld.
LBX, it's basically custom Robo arena. Shame it didn't have multiplayer.
Crimson shrouded is a eshop game that plays like a tabletop rpg with dice.
Fantasy life is a rpg/sim where you can go through the game doing all sorts of jobs like woodcutter, miner and Knight etc. It's by Level 5 and looks and sounds amazing.
The new Metroid is exactly what you'd expect, pretty decent.
The ghost recon game is actually decent and plays like a turn based rpg. Can be picked up on the cheap.
Etrian Odyssey IV and Shin Megami Tensei IV are must haves.
Alliance Alive is worth playing. There's a demo on Eshop too if you're still unsure. The battle system is open-ended, but easy enough to get by doing whatever you want. It's a useful entry point for the SaGa series it takes inspiration from.
Masashi Hamauzu does it again:

And if you don't take the mecha duck loli into every battle you're a bitch.
If you're patient, there's an HD version coming out for other systems, but it's not like you're playing for the visual spectacle.
Whatever you do Op just don`t buy Majora`s mask for 3DS its absolute garbage. The MH games are pretty great if you don`t own them especially 4U and Stories. Another OP already said LBX and I can safely recommend that as well. If you decide to get SMT stay away from Apocalypse.
if you like SRPG's, try the mercenaries saga games
>stay away from Apocalypse.
>not wanting an improved SMT4 where you get to punch God in the face in the most magnificent fashion yet
You are not my homeslice.
Holy fuck, where has this been all my life. This is right up my alley.
>If you're patient, there's an HD version coming out for other systems, but it's not like you're playing for the visual spectacle.
Assuming they don't completely fuck up the visuals trying to upscale, the HD version might actually be a boon. The 3DS has small ass screens, and the camera is panned really far back in AA that at the very least it would always strain my eyes whenever I played.
The problem is not with the ending but with all the cringy anime bullshit that happens in between. Apocalypse fixed the broken ass partner mechanic which is a plus but its just meh compared to 4 in my opinion.
Looks like FFTA x Fire Emblem.
Thanks for all the responses. How are the Ace Attorney games?
Anyone have any opinions on Fantasy Life?
certainly worth a playthrough.
the one with layton as well
Really fun to play with friends. Could be fun to be played solo too if you like Rune Factory-like games.
Stella Glow is amazing. Do note that it seems incredibly generic at first, but that's on purpose, it's actually setting you up for a huge twist in the middle of the game. The difficulty also shoots way up.
Alliance Alive is great, had a ton of fun with it, the characters and really endearing.
Legend of Legacy is boring, unbalanced shit. Everything I loved about Alliance Alive is missing and the combat and character progression feel terrible.
oh man, i didn't know it was on the switch.
also has the first game, which didn't make it over here on 3ds
I find it funny that most people who shit talk Stella Glow are too ADD to have made it to Chapter 9. The claims of it being easy also stop there, the second half of the game is brutal unless you power level your ass off or start exploiting Delay Orbs, though even then it won't save you against Eve's first form.
>impregnate a witch
sold
She's 1012 years old and was the youngest of the witches that accompanied Elcrest. She was also his main love interest. Alto is really just Elcrest who slept for 1000 years and lost his memory after they attempted to fight Eve the first time and failed spectacularly. Hilda stopped her aging to keep her final promise to Elcrest of saving humanity, that's why she freezes people and is trying to kill the witches, in order to slow/stop the apocalypse. She's fallen in love with you and only you twice over the course of 1000 years.
>1012
That's oddly specific
Damn user, way to drop some pretty big spoilers on the guy.
She was 12 before she stopped her aging. She starts it back up in her ending.
Well, I did put it under spoilers. There are more twists than that, the whole second half of the game challenges everything you were ever told about the world. In fact it was intentional misinformation from Xeno.
Man I really gotta replay this game again sometime. It was such a fun ride. That, or draw some more Hilda.
Legend of Legacy was fucking awful so awful indeed that it made me not try anything similar to it because how fucking bad it was.
If I want a JRPG I just play SMT and other Fatlus shit.
One of my favorite games of the console, too much shit to do even more with DLC, super comfy and kinda cute, I only wish the game had a date/marriage option even if it was fucking generic, no qt paladin gf for me.
I was in the same spot as you but I still gave Alliance Alive a try, I loved it. The combat and character progression are heavily changed for the better, it plays like a proper RPG now instead of a borked version of FF2/SaGa. Most importantly it has a real, well written plot and endearing characters. I can't think of anyone in the main cast I didn't eventually warm up to, Gene and Rachel are probably the weakest characters though.
>it plays like a proper RPG now instead of a borked version of FF2/SaGa
I should have mentioned that it still plays like SaGa but in a good way, not a "sit there and grind one action forever to get good at one stat".
