Like I said it's a purityfag game. Unfortunately this is an actual thing in moonland, westerners sometimes mistake it for being gay but it's a totally separate deal. I personally think it's the worst of all worlds, I much prefer actual character development and interactions or at least something hot but I don't self insert either so what do I know.

Yeah that's the thing I guess, purityfag games are different from just having nothing too. There are plenty of games with cute girls but zero character drive period also, where it's just all gameplay. I don't really care about the romance in Espgaluda or Death Smiles or Melty Blood or whatever. But games like Blue Reflection do in fact push what's going on outside of battle, except that it's all so shallow and hollow. Worse then nothing.

Creepy as it is, this game is made for 30+ year olds. It deals with some depressing and melancholic themes. Maybe it's not so surprising after Madoka that a magical girl genre is darker and more mature than the average anime genre.

It's similar to persona in that you go into people's psyche to solve their problems and improve your relationship with them. Combat is good but spoiled by being too easy and also completely optional, it only really gets to shine in the boss battles. XP is only gained from improving social links.
It's basically a VN with some kick ass boss battles in between chapters. Music, art style, atmosphere, girls are all 8/10. Gameplay and animations 5/10
