Movie games are the cancer that killed the industr-
just like there are bad movies and good movies, there are good movie games and bad movie games
The PS1 indirectly ruined the video game industry by allowing games to have lengthy cutscenes and uncompressed audio for voice acting.
It's ok to have a story in video games. It is. Yea Forums is just retarded.
>QTE bullshit
>Cinematic gameplay moments
>Long cutscenes
Admittedly these can be somewhat annoying and are the more traditional tropes that I think Yea Forums is talking about and, admittedly, they're primarily found in sony exclusive titles, but some of those same titles have been very much memorable experiences.
The Last of Us IS a good game. It had great multiplayer, the gunplay was solid, the stealth was basic but decent. It was by no means perfect, but to sit there and say that it was bad is just bullshit.
Both those games have good gameplay and don't waste your time with padding
Shit like Uncharted and Yakuza are indefensible
No. It was Microsoft.
>introduced DLC
>introduced paid online
>wanted to have an always online console that couldnt use used games
>NO HDMI
>no wireless
shig shig shig
The main issue is that video game writers are frauds who couldn't cut it in the film industry, so the stories usually end up being shit. Video games should focus on creating an interesting world that the player can interact with instead of railroading the player through a poor story.
Some stories are good and some are bad. It's the same with movies. I feel like this is just a silly argument.
ME1, WC3, Diablo 2, TW3, TLoU (I liked it fuck u), Bioshock, MGS3, Etc, Etc, all stand out in my mind.
-y
FF7's movie after Midgar was ass though, MGS1 had a good movie
KOTOR 2, Persona 3, 4 ,5, System Shock 2, Lost Odyssey, FFVI, Earthbound, TTYD, Eternal Darkness, Majora's Mask, the list goes on and on. All games that benefit from their story.
Film writers are frauds who couldn't cut it in the novel industry.
>Persona 4, 5
These games are made worse by their stories, though.
You should have learned by now that Yea Forums is full of hypocrites that hate actual gameplay and will excuse literally anything as long as its the japs doing it.
Lost Odyssey's story wasn't that great, it was carried by the spectacle of the gameplay and those absolutely kino memory stories
>implying Persona 5 story wasn't trash even compared to the tripe that came before it
Esoteric knowledge: No bad game ever "ruined the industry", because bad games don't inspire knockoffs. Remember when every game had stupid QTE bullshit ripped lazily from RE4?
Did it ever occur to you that Yea Forums is in fact more than one person?
Typical western trash.
>Movie games are the cancer that killed the industr-
Yes, that statement is absolutely correct.
It boils down to taste to be sure.
>inb4 your taste sucks
you still both played those games just as I did. I enjoyed them for what they were.
>comparing hk to okami instead of, i don't know, one of the japanese games it was actually inspired by
and i like hk. 2/10 bait will get serious replies
FF7 is typical squaresoft trash and metal gear actually had gameplay past the codec cutscenes
It's funny how Yea Forums always calls western games 'movies', when the Japanese were the ones who were responsible for pretty much all cinematic trends in gaming.
1 comparison being iffy doesn't invalidate the rest of the image
QTEs are great. Do you not like Shenmue and Yakuza?
>there are good movie games and bad movie games
yes.
Example of a good movie game: MGS3
Example of a bad movie game: Other M
It exposes your bias against Japanese games.
But my favorite game of all time is from a Japanese developer. I think you meant to say it exposes my bias against shit games.
>It's funny how Yea Forums always calls western games 'movies', when the Japanese were the ones who were responsible for pretty much all cinematic trends in gaming.
Pretty much, yeah:
>Shenmue pioneered and popularized quick-time events
>Ico pioneered and popularized escort missions
>WinBack & Kill Switch pioneered and popularized cover-based shooting
>Metal Gear Solid pioneered and popularized 'movie games' with a heavy emphasis on cinematic storytelling to the detriment of gameplay (just compare MGS to its stealth game contemporaries like Thief and it becomes painfully clear how primitive its 'stealth' mechanics and level design are by comparison)
>Resident Evil 4 pioneered and popularized the tight over the shoulder camera where your character takes up half the screen, necessitating a much slower movement speed and pace of gameplay, in contrast to older third-person games where the camera was zoomed out and both player and enemy moved very fast.
>Final Fantasy and other jrpgs removed classic rpg features like extensive character creation and customization and non-linearity in favor of a more guided, linear experience filled with cinematic spectacle.
>Yea Forums will defend this
-y, and anyone over the age of 25 agrees.
Congratulations cherrypick-kun! You finally graduated from just cherrypicking to also red-herring or just blatantly lying.
yeah but something something liberals rreeeee
oh great wrpg-kun is here defending his shitty irrelevant games
The irony of all these people who say "Yea Forums is not one person" when you also have faggots like in every thread who think there is one person in the world who disagrees with them and posts here
It tells you how much of a feedback loop hugbox people expect this site to be when different opinions make you think it's just one person
stop posting retarded images
I think When they says they hate movie games it's more that they hate games that are trying to emulate Hollywood style of filmmaking like the last of us or Call of Duty or Uncharted. Whereas games like mgs or JRPGs are telling stories that could only be told through the medium of vidya.
>Whereas games like mgs or JRPGs are telling stories that could only be told through the medium of vidya
MGS could very easily just be a movie for every installment and that would go for most JRPGs except when distilled to that point most of them would be fucking dogshit
Literally not a single thing in your entire post is in any way bad, with the only exception of:
>to the detriment of gameplay
which is just a blatant lie
The level of exposition in the metal gear games would never ever translate well to a film. They would just be shity Hollywood action pieces like Escape From New York
>QTEs
>Good
wrpg-kun still seething
You're either retarded or a newfag.
After years of seeing someone continuing to use the same exact argumentative style with the same exact blatant fallacies over and over and over again with not even a hint of change or improvement, you got to have an extremely low IQ, to not being able to recognize him.
why this guy hates jap games so much?
this is getting old
Because he has shit taste and wants to ensure that everyone shares it.
