I personally like Red & Blue Rescue way more, and think the story is better even if it's more barebones and basic, but across the board most people say Explorers of Sky is objectively the best game in the series and they're pretty much right.

well if you went back to it, you'd be backtracking to only gen 3 moves/mechanics/roster. But the game is very comfy world and story-wise. Also pokemon you recruit have their own unique housing area on the map, which was kind of cool.

I'm sorry but Stage Builder right now is my escape from my time waging and working on art commissions on the side. I really don't want to turn my leisure time into that. To be honest I am an extreme casual when it comes to Smash Bros, so if you want more competitive friendly and playable Stages you might want to commission someone who knows what they're doing. I don't know anything about game balance.

Thanks for understanding, I might change my mind and go fix some old ones once I hit the 99 cap, but for now I want to just spend what free time I can find just making fun Stages for myself to enjoy and hopefully other people can enjoy them too.

I actually have a City Escape stage in mind I've been planning to make!!! I've seen a lot of people make them but I've wanted to try to find a way to make one where the Truck actually feels like it's moving down an incline, I don't know if it's possible but I really want to attempt it. And gosh that's a good idea actually for the SuperStar Saga one, I never would have thought to make that a Stage but that sidequest was one of my favorite parts of the game. Personally I've been thinking of making either a Chucklehuck Woods one or a generic BeanBean overworld Stage. The Chucklehuck Woods one could probably have a lot of potential though, because I could make the Chuckolator boss a stage hazard and the lava terrain would actually fit it aesthetically since it would look like the bubbling soda. I really love SuperStar Saga also, it's my favorite of the M&L RPGs

I was thinking Chucklehuck Woods too! With pouring cola decorations! BeanBean overworld is really cool, or the destroyed castle area. I always loved the music change. SuperStar Saga is my favorite as well, I have so many memories playing that game as a super little kid.

the wooden Barrels are really easy additions too to make be platforms since they stack, there's a lot to work with in the Chucklehuck Woods segment, the Chuckolator has always been my favorite Boss from that game, his design is so cool. Simple too, I could put him together in basically four to five pieces.

Partners in Time I consider the most fun one and it's by far the one I've replayed the most, but SuperStar Saga is like a lightning in a bottle moment that none of the sequels ever reached the quality of. I haven't got a chance to play Paper Jam yet though.

Don't waste your time, Paper Jam is the literal definition of soulless. What other ideas for stages have you thought of? You know what else could make for a good level is that Toad Town area above the desert. Or a Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 level

I had a bad feeling that was going to be the case. I honestly was so bored with Dream Team when it came out that I still haven't finished it to this day, and probably never will. It felt so empty and bereft of the creative spark the games used to have, I think the only time I cared at all was when you see Popple again and that's depressing that the only thing I liked was them calling back to when they actually had better ideas. I'm in the camp that doesn't even think Bowser's Inside Story is all that great compared to the first two. I really hope a Switch M&L game can fix things because those games at their base are so good, they just need to be creative again. SuperStar Saga's soul comes entirely from it barely relying on established Mario assets since it was in another Kingdom.

The crazy thing is you just requested two things I had already thought of making into stages! Little Fungi Town and a TH Pro Skater stage! A Skatepark feels like a great excuse to make natural feeling platforms. I think my next stage is going to be either NiGHTS, Splatterhouse, or Chucklehuck Woods. It really sucks that I have way more ideas than I have space for more Stages.

Then again the Pokemon music selection in general is kind of poor, they have a bit too much focus on just battle themes, which I guess makes sense but it still is kind of lame. For the pro skater stage, I LOVE the first level in Pro Skater 3, as well as the cul de sac and most of the levels. Idk how but that cul de sac is just the most fun, and reminds me the most of pop punk days.

also, you are definitely right about SuperstarSaga having soul for the different kingdom reason, just another shining example of restricted freedom ruining a game. But the weird thing is Dream Team was in a different kingdom and it didnt feel as charming at all.

I dont think there will be any more M&L games, theyd have to either go full 3D which is expensive or make HD sprites which is even MORE expensive, I think they will just stick with Paper Mario from now on sadly. It sucks because I always LOVED the M&L games the most.

I already did Grunty Industries, just the exterior as an 8 player compatible stage. I would've loved to do something more intricate involving the interior, but there was no way to make that work as the proportions of Grunty Industries make no sense at all on the inside.

I am usually not the online multiplayer guy. As I said, I tried it out because of the online challenges , but soon discovered the greatness that was stage builder.

You actually pointed out exactly what bothered me about Dream Team the most, is the fact that it was clearly in many ways trying to recreate a lot of elements of SS like exploring a new Kingdom and bringing back old characters from BeanBean but it only highlighted just how restricted or tired they seem now. At least the battling was fun in that game.

I honestly don't know what I'd want at this point. Both Paper Mario and M&L are in a rut of stifled creativity to a serious extent and both need to get out of it badly. For over a decade now I've been saying they should just let the M&L team have their hands on another property, maybe they're just tired of Mario. A Donkey Kong or Kirby M&L style game would be incredible.

It's just $20 for a year dude. It's fuckin $4 if you just want it for a month. I'm poor as shit and I can still afford this.

Kirby would be really perfect for an RPG adventure too considering he's forced to be a silent protagonist, and the world is already so colorful and essentially a ruleless blank slate they can do anything they want with it. The AlphaDream art design would have so much fun with Pop Star. Kirby in general needs to branch out again, it's in this rut for me where the games are awesome but they're just too similar for me to get excited anymore, I want something that isn't another 2D platformer

EXACTLY! Everything since Return to Dreamland has been JUST barely above "decent" when kirby games like Amazing Mirror and Superstar Ultra used to blow me away. They too are in a B-teir rut of just good enough. I feel like Nintendo keeps its most creative energy in its biggest IPs like Mainline Mario, Zelda, Splatoon (which was from the Animal Crossing team) and Animal Crossing. Which would explain why StarFox was so shit, Miyamoto (the anti-creativity man now) lead a team of people under his command. He should be retired entirely imo, he is damaging the company with his insight.

I remember back in a Nintendo Direct speculation thread somebody throwing the idea of a Kirby RPG and I haven't been able to get it out of my head since. It could work so well. There are so many adorable designs in Kirby and making a team out of enemies would be so much fun. Star Allies sort of scratches the itch but it would be fun in a new genre.

I don't think it's out of the question either. Kirby has always had a bit of experimentation in stuff like Pinball Land, Dream Course, and Canvas Curse. Wouldn't be that much of a stretch for an RPG. Still I think if they're going to experiment they'll probably try a 3D platformer next based on the minigame proof of concept in Planet Robobot. As long as they experiment in the next game though. I enjoyed Star Allies but don't they can do anything new in that style.

I think that's what bothers me so much about the weird state Kirby's in. They used to release tons of spin-offs and weird side games but they basically don't anymore, and it's just more 2D platformers. The ones they have made are tiny things built off of the 2D platformers. It's almost too much of a good thing, Return to Dream Land felt special at the time since it had been so long since we had one but now there are so many being put out I haven't even caught up with them yet. Of all their IPs I think Kirby would benefit the most from getting an RPG, I just worry Nintendo might never allow it because anything with numbers or slight strategy to it might deter the primary audience for Kirby in their eyes, no matter how easy the game is

Ive always REALLY wanted a 3D collectathon like platformer for Kirby, mostly because I grew up with N64 collectathons and Kirby games. It would be fun to have a little area to explore in 3D and solve little puzzles with powers that you get from enemies. I have no idea why they feel the need to keep kirby 2D, and it frustrates me.
Kirby Star Allies art direction turned me off from that game. Not only is it not 60fps (which is horrible for a 2D game) but kirbys FACE to BODY ratio is off entirely! His face takes up his whole body, it makes him look like hes too small and Kirby was already perfect! Also the music in the new games is TRASH compared to the older music from the GBA / SNES N64 games

Little Kids are smart enough when it comes to basic RPGs, I was probably 8 or 9 when I played SuperStar Saga and I got it easily, but I understand your reasoning for why Nintendo would think that way.

Kirby has been experimenting but not in a new game sadly. The minigames in Planet Robobot shows some of the ideas they were toying around with. Star Allies on the other hand is just further refinement of the work done in Super Star Ultra. People don't really bring it up but it really takes those design ideas and cranks it to 100 when you look at how it's built around the extra games where you do speedruns with individual characters or do arena fights. Sadly most people drop off before the post game where it actually gets good. Still I think they will have noticed how fed up people are with the current games and experiment more with the next one. I think it'll take some time though and be worth it.

Oh and do you have an art page or anything where you post your drawings? Your OCs always have an interesting style and I'm curious to see more.

The only reason I worry Nintendo would think that Kirby RPG would be too complex is because of the way Game Freak makes excuses for dumbing down the Pokemon games. I know they're two totally different companies but, considering how many tutorials they shove into the M&L RPGs since BiS I honestly don't think their line of thinking is that far apart

Star Allies I've heard nothing but middling things though, no one seemed to ever talk about it outside of what DLC characters got added in. I do know though that everyone says the lore-building is getting even deeper ever since Robobot, which only makes me want an RPG even more. The best kind of world-building is through visual storytelling and combining that with some fleshed out characters in an RPG would be the perfect blend I think

I've seen a couple over the last week, try looking under the keyword Nyx probably

Robobot is a great straightforward Kirby game. I thought the whole mecha mechanic would be annoying but the fact that it can also use copy abilities(a smaller pool sadly) makes the puzzles and combat with it actually pretty fun. The copy abilities are top notch too, one is based off his Smash moveset and Poison is still one of my favorite copy abilities in the series. Very versatile, I was sad when Star Allies didn't have it. Star Allies is another matter all together. I feel if you approach it the wrong way you aren't going to have fun which leads to the less than stellar reviews. Star Allies was built first and foremost to play with children. Levels are super easy to the point that it's accessible to like 3 year olds or younger. It's the second group that it was built for that people don't understand. It was built for Speedrunners. Every copy ability in the game has their own time leaderboard that even specifies how fast you were on specific segments. It's pretty fun just doing a run with a single copy ability and seeing how fast you can go. Most people don't like how repetitive it is so they just stop playing after the main campaign. Lastly the Arena is super challenging this time. The difficulty slider can go from baby's first Kirby game to absolute brutality, and you have the choice of having AI allies back you up or not. Things can get pretty difficult on high difficulties with bad copy abilities, best part is it records your scores if you want to show off.

Those are the reasons I love Star Allies but most people either don't see those modes or don't actually like them. If you enjoy any of the above ideas I would say pick it up but if you don't then I'd say pass as the base campaign really isn't worth the price of admission.

You're preaching to the choir. I started with Kirby 64 and you have no idea how frustrating it is for them to never revisit such a complex and interesting idea as double copy abilities.

Wow you actually sold me on Star Allies when I've been totally disinterested in it until now. I'm not much of a speedrunner, but the idea of recording runs for each Copy sounds great to me, reminds me of the Helper to Hero arena in SSU which was some of the most fun I had completing that with every Helper / Ability. That's actually a really smart concession, Kirby games biggest weakness is always their shortness and easiness which you can turn into a strength by emphasizing repeat playthroughs. That's so cool too that they brought back the Smash ability, I always loved that in Amazing Mirror.

Smash Ability is definitely my favorite, I remember the first time discovering it I thought it was the coolest reference! I never wanted to lose that powerup! I would play Star Allies but the 30fps just absolutely kills it for me, so choppy!

It's weird, Amazing Mirror is one of the few Kirby games I've never completed.
It doesn't make sense because I love Metroidvanias and I love Kirby. I think it's just that every time I've tried to play it I go along normally until I hit a wall of where to go next. I look at the map but it's just so fucking confusing knowing how the branches work and what copy ability I need that I just give up and play a linear game. I think I would enjoy it if I could conceptualize the map properly but I've been spoiled by the map style of Sotn, Super Metroid and Hollow Knight.

I mean you seem like a smart guy, I beat it when I was a little boy, you just need to know that the arrow lines mean its 1 way, solid lines mean you can go to and from, blinking boxes means theres a room isnt complete yet, and a solid yellow room on the map means that its done. I think thats how I remember it anyway.

the labyrinth design is just bland and tiny rooms don't work with Kirby's speed and ridiculous jumps. the game shows you which doors are one-way and indicates when rooms haven't been 100%. it's actually very small.

That was an oversight, caused by the outline on the main platform. I didn't realize until way later that outlining platforms like that basically assures they can't be grabbed. I can't seem to find any way to make outlines like that that doesn't result in that happening sadly

I got over the 30fps pretty quick. It's a drag to be sure but once it was clear they weren't going to patch it in I decided I shouldn't be an autistic PC gamer when it comes to Kirby. I'm sure once they figure out Yuzu emulation there'll be a way to play it in 60fps but until then I can accept a compromise.

Funny how Throw and Suplex have the same hat yet are technically different abilities.

I feel that the newer powerups are basically full movesets, and sadly for some reason I liked it when they were simpler because it meant that each copy ability, you had to think about how you approached enemies. Now you just have a generic "poison" set of moves that all basically do similar things as the generic "doctor" moves or "spider" moves. It was fun back when you had a few moves that you had to really understand. I think it also has a lot to do with how enemies in the older games took up more screenspace so they were a bit more hittable with copy abilities, newer copy abilities seem to do more to hit generally smaller on screen enemies

Kirby power movesets have been complex since Superstar. The beam ability has like a whole page devoted to it's moveset when it's just one thing in Adventure.
It just varies whether they go complex or simple on the particular outing and all the recent outings have been complex. You can still get a bit of simple with some copy abilities though. Something like Rock hasn't changed a whole lot.

Same honestly, but I have an idea for a potentially fun gimmick for the stage to help it stand out. Most of my recent stages have been relatively gimmick-free (with obviously Click Clock Wood and now Cloud Cuckooland being notable exceptions), and Glittergulch's layout is so windy that I can't do a very faithful recreation of it anyway.

I had an idea for Grunty's Furnace Fun but when it didn't work well when I tested it, so I had to shelve it for later. Not sure if I'll revisit it.

Also, Click Clock Wood v2 apparently has issues in (offline) smashes where the foreground doorway doesn't drop down for no apparent reason which really fucking sucks. Wish it let me delete/replace that version entirely as v1 does not have this issue and a v3 feels kind of redundant by this point.
