Because our hero or our favorite videogame character was never that good to begin with. Because most of us who started like Sonic as kids didn't have a happy childhood. That was our only means to see what freedom an adventure was like. The vibrant colors from the levels brighten up our gloomy lives. We have been suffering since the early days. When the game transcended to 3D, the games were at best meh. It belongs to a company that has made several bad business decisions and continues today.
Our fanbase are those that were like us but have lost their minds. They lust after the characters and have been completely consumed by their Sonic fantasies that they have lost all reason. It's why we have Chris Chan, why we had AKnotHoleResident, Blaze the Hedgehog, Guptill89. They are all a result of a shitty upbringing with no guidance whatsoever.
It is the price we pay for being a fan of Sonic. We will never be happy.

The issue is how SEGA deals with their IPs. They only treat well Yakuza. All those good franchises, Jet Set Radio, Billy Hatcher, NiGHTS, House of the Dead, Valkyria Chronicles...forced into a shitty mobile game. Let's hope the new Sakura Wars sells well
