There's a sale right now on steam and on PS4 and I've never played a Tales of game before. Which one should I get? I was thinking of berseria since it has the epic edgy waifu but idk.
For reference, while i think gameplay should be a priority, I would also like the story/characters to not be the worst possible. I don't expect some nobel winning writing, but if let's say one game is 10/10 gameplay and 4/10 story/characters and the other is 8 gameplay and 7 story I'd rather have the second. I just can't stand really extreme cases of power of friendship and ratrded clichè shit.
bersaria isn't the worst. Pretty crappy story but the fighting mechanics are okay. in my opinion, nothing will top Vesperia/Abyss.
Jayden Taylor
3D tales are garbage.
Luis Sanchez
Berseria is the best imo
Isaiah Reyes
Any reason to get the PS4 versions over PC, or should I just go PC? Botched ports, stuff like that?
Nathan Peterson
Is this one of those series where it's best to play them all in order?
Xavier Williams
Berseria's gameplay is button-mashing garbage. Gameplay is a 2/10, story is really generic 4/10 and the characters are good except for the protagonist. 7/10 in that deparment. It is the second worst Tales game, a blatant Damage Control game, and full of insufferable waifufag who buy games with "their dicks." If such faggotry sounds like your type of thing, then waste your money I guess.
Aiden Butler
No, you don't have to. The only Tales titles that have sequels are: Destiny > Destiny 2 (but this one was released in Japan only) Symphonia > Symphonia Dawn of the New World >>>>>>>>> Phantasia (DotNW happens not long after orig. Symphonia, but Phantasia is faaaar away into the future and it is not needed to play Symphonia prior to Phantasia)
Xillia > Xillia 2
Symphonia is easily the best, but some will say Vesperia. Start with those 2.
Nicholas Edwards
I got PC cause you can run SpecialK tweaks and make it run at higher framerates, it was also part of the 13 dollar humble bundle. I don't think there's much of a difference between ports. Ps4 is probably adequate, consult youtube cause i'm not 100%
Brody Peterson
Berseria kinda sucked. It's about as linear as Final Fantasy 13. It's the story that people liked about Berseria. You basically just walk down a hallway with no real reason to return to previous locations, and there are not many branching paths.
Lucas Brooks
>says berseria has a crappy story >recommend vesperia instead I hate you nostalgia faggots so much
Kayden Morgan
Get Vesperia instead. If you want to play Symphonia, emulate the GC version instead, since that's the only version of the game that runs at 60 fps. Yes, not even the PC port can run at 60 for some dumb fucking reason.
Liam Ramirez
Berseria is also a prequel to Zestiria, but lol Zestiria
Evan Perez
Thank god they finally stopped pumping out shitty low effort trash Tales
Jacob Martinez
There's no mod or shit like that to get 60FPS?
Evan Scott
>Destiny 2 Isn't this Tales of Eternia outside of Japan?
Colton White
Nah, I wouldn't say it's as linear. At least Berseria had plenty multiple routes in a given map and optional arenas to fight in. Maps in Berseria aren't a complete linear line like in FFXIII so much as they don't provide much to really explore outside the beaten path.
Aaron Campbell
Think the controller will light up in pink if you play on a PS4. Had no problems with the steam version, think I had one crash-to-desktop in about 100 hours. Story is good, characters are great, I liked the battle system. Only complaint I have is the dungeon design, it was a lot better in earlier games.
Logan Martinez
No, it's not. Many people are confused with it. Eternia was renamed to Destiny II, but the actual Destiny 2 was released in Japan.
I don't know, maybe they didn't expect to make more Tales games? At that point Tales of Destiny 2 was not planned, I think. Or maybe they though Americans are too stupid to buy a new game, so they released a game with ''familiar'' name. Who the fuck knows?
Andrew Flores
OP here
Bought Berseria, thanks for the tips. If I end up disliking it, I will at least try Vesperia or Symphonia down the road to see if I just hate the series or the game.
Isaiah Evans
Every single other aspect of Vesperia is superior.
Carter Morales
I don't know if that says something to you, but story in Symphonia is kinda similar to Final Fantasy 10. I'm not saying it's a blatant copy, because it's not, but they share the same ''theme''. You follow a girl who is chosen one and needs to pray at shrines to receive blessing and get rid of evil Desians who threaten their world. This is not a spoiler as it's explained (a summary) in first 2 minutes of the game. but, of course, as you travel some people will try to stop you... basically, everything good minus unnecessary drama. Really good story if you ask me.
Jaxon Campbell
The plot is literally just beserk, the gameplay is mind numbing (spam random buttons and get combos is all you do), the dialogue is generic anime tropes and cliches. If you don't watch anime or it's your first JRPG then you might like it.
Carson Smith
Is Tales of Hearts R worth getting? I've heard pretty mixed things about it, but it's only £5 atm
Zachary Martinez
I tried to finish it, but I just couldn't. And I beat Zestiria.
Daniel Collins
Berseria is only worth playing on PC where you can use modifiers on the run speed, when you remove all the walking and fighting it becomes a pretty enjoyable VN
Logan Sullivan

Chase Diaz
> I just can't stand really extreme cases of power of friendship and ratrded clichè shit.
Yeaaaah Tales of isn't for you.
Xavier Hernandez
I'd argue it has good story and awful fighting mechanics
Juan Flores
Berseria probably has the least power of friendship stuff though.
Aaron Gutierrez
Which tales has the best gameplay?
Samuel Martinez
Xilla 2. Ignore anyone who says Graces f. They are trying to trick you.
Adam Cook
Not trying to knock on the game, I just don't really think I understand it. Is the beginning supposed to feel this button mashy? I don't remember Graces f or Xillia being like this but I haven't played those in years. I guess because I don't have that many moves yet or something?
Berseria is probably the mashiest Tales game. It plays more like a Musou than a Tales. Probably part of the post-Zestiria damage control and not wanting to take risks with the combat. If you want to have any fun with the game actively avoid using Velvet. Eizen and Magilou have interesting setups, Eleanor has huge hitboxes like Hubert so she is good for crowd control.
Asher Clark
you should play phantasia, then eternia, then synmphonia, then abyss, then vesperia then drop this series like a fucking grendade.....legendia is cool too though
