So THIS is why it didn´t get a localization
Xavier Watson
Nathaniel Reyes
No it's because it was traaaaash
Christian Turner
Wife material
Ayden Thomas
No it didn't get localized because the Doyle estate was being jerks about Holmes stories even though the character is clearly in public domain.
Daniel Hernandez
Actually, the last 10 or so novels aren't until public domain YET and they use this loophole to prevent earlier works from being public domain.
Especially since those newer works reference the old works and events from them.
And unfortunately that tactic works in American courts, they're basically stalling for time while they still have a decade or so left.
Japan gives no fucks so they did it anyway and no gaijin pig will ever win in Nipponese court so again, they don't care.
It's also worth noting that DGS uses and references material from the last few novels that are still not open domain.
Oliver Price
Do you think they could cover it up with localization magic? Change all the names or is it not that simple? I haven't played it.
Joseph Martin
Not without completely eviscerating all Sherlock novels references.
If it was just Sherlock himself, they could change his name to Herlock Sholmes (very popular method used by writers worldwide to this day) but unfortunately it's much, MUCH more than just him.
Jonathan Collins
I mean how is that any different from Trucy living with Phoenix?
Henry Richardson
Why are they a problem if they're just "references" though
Parker Barnes
Because intellectual property is not just names, but also specific events associated with it.
Jayden Wilson
how is the 3ds emulation of this game?
do I really need to shill 20 bucks for the mobile port?
Gavin Gomez
>how is the 3ds emulation of this game?
I heard some anons say it works great on latest build of Citra Canary (NOT regular Citra).
Hunter Wood
It didn't get localized because it's a fucking Ace Attorney game and they barely do well enough to maybe get a physical release over here, let alone a release for a spin off.
Owen Watson
Didn't they also base the entire last case around an IRL Japanese famous novelist and the plot of one of his books?
Colton Rodriguez
The only reason they do bad is because Crapcom sabotaged the series in the west.
All the DS releases sold like hotcakes with exception of Investigations 1 which underperformed because they released it in 2011 at the fucking height of DS piracy when the platform was effectively pirated all to shit and dead in the west as a result.
But since dumb faceless suits are literally retarded and can't even look at the big picture, they just concluded that people in the west don't like Ace Attorney anymore so they will drastically cut localization budget and limit themselves to digital-only releases of the mainline games.
Landon Rogers
Yes.
Nolan Roberts
Hopefully Trilogy does well to prove them wrong then. I assume it has on Switch because Switch owners buy fucking anything.
Colton Hughes
It's mostly due to the issue around the sherlock holmes stuff and getting sued if they were to localize it in some counties. That and a bunch of retcons theyd have to write to make the whole japanifornia thing make sence.
Ryder Diaz
>That and a bunch of retcons theyd have to write to make the whole japanifornia thing make sence.
No retcons are needed actually.
The "official" localization lore is that Japanese immigration wasn't blocked post-WW2 and thus all the Japanesy culture in localization's Japanifornia.
As this game takes place in 19th century, they don't have to rewrite anything, just say that it's Wright's Japanese ancestor.
Justin Lee
or they could just dump japanifornia because it's not worth sacrificing games just to "respect" a really dumb and shortsighted localization gimmick that barely worked even in the first game
David White
>or they could just dump japanifornia
DGS literally take place in Japan and London and have no connection to the main series whatosever beyond Ryunosuke being Wright's ancestor.
There aren't even any callbacks.
Localization wouldn't need to change anything at all.
Kevin Howard
>because Switch owners buy fucking anything.
It'll probably fail there more than any other system because Nintendo fans have had the trilogy for years. That and they only really buy anything they deem as good otherwise they're happy to let even Nintendo games fail.
Leo Gray
Honestly your not wrong.
That said theres also just the whole deal with the blatent racist shit between japan and europe, and while that means nothing in an historical sence people are idiots and would probably overeact to it cause burgers are sensitive.
Xavier Robinson
All that casual racism in DGS was such a breath of fresh air to me
Alexander Campbell
I´m playing it on citra right now. It runs at like 70% on trials because there´s multiple people on screen, otherwise it´s fine
Lincoln Scott
It didn't get localized because the Brits fucking trash talk those "dirty Japs"
Joseph Murphy
most white characters in Japanese game are racist
they make them harmless when it gets localized in the west
Leo Flores
Try using canary 1041 or older. They had a speedhack that lets this game run at 100% on most systems, even at above native res.
Brody Howard
it didn't get localized because contrary to a vocal few, most people that played the rest of the series in english would not be interested in buying it. the legal and setting issues are small by comparison, capcom will rewrite whatever they want.
Sebastian Nelson
>most people that played the rest of the series in english would not be interested in buying it
AA fanbase is a fucking joke
Alexander Kelly
Well I know I bought it
Jayden Brooks
Has the APK+OBB been dumped yet?
Jack Garcia
It didn't get localized because it's about actual political tension, race relations, prejudice, and all sorts of other things hurting sjw feefees.
Also the cases are shit.
Chase Cox
I remember Maurice Leblanc not giving a shit and Holmes for years. The estate had to change it years later, but still.
Jose Adams
Did you get them on DS and 3ds?
