Can the franchise recover from this? Has it negatively affected the future of fighting games?

Yes
Just present Street fighter Alpha 4
With sprites and no ugly 3d model

Yes. No. SFV is still popular and I sincerely doubt SF6 is going to have a worse launch and word of mouth. It will be FINE.
question is if Snoy is paying for the next one too.

Yes, Yes.

>I sincerely doubt SF6 is going to have a worse launch and word of mouth.
Depends on whether Capcom has actually learned from the mistakes they made with 5.

>has capcom learned from the mistakes of 5
>when every street fighter, especially 5, has its fundamental mechanics determined by a gut reaction against whatever was unpopular about the previous game

I mean Ono has been bumped down and Ryozo the Monster Hunter golden boy is in so we'll see what happens.

SFV and MVCI shitting the bed was the best thing that could have happened, and has opened up way more room for other fighting games to get the spotlight.

It's recovered from worse. I'm more curious as to whether any of their otehr fighting game franchises will ever come back.

When is SF6 coming do you think? I don't think I can stomach any more fighting games from capcom looking at their recent track record
>SFxT
>SFV
>MvC:I
they better not choose now to make a darkstalkers

Tekken 7 turning out to be a huge success and continuing to age better than any fighting game in recent memory certainly softened the blow.

a shame his reward for winning the tekken tour was 10 bucks and a trip to mcdonalds

Soul calibur, doa and mk also shit the bed so...

Gameplay wise, mkx on release was the best MK game by far and only got better with patches. MK11 is shaping up to be pretty great itself.

absolutely. If SFV was good there's no way I'd be playing tekken now, but I'm thankful that I am because tekken is sick

Yes
Maybe
I only say maybe because SFV seemed to be the start of recent fighting games being really dumbed down and everyone seemed to follow suit

I feel you brew. Got into T7 too because of SFV being such a letdown. I always thought Tekken was kinda lame because my experience of it was playing 3 as a kid and then every EVO see bunch of Bobs beat each other up in Tekken 6 and bound making the combos look pretty damn stupid. Screw is much better for the eyes and PC release was a brilliant idea.

Even though its a shit street fighter game, its still the No1 among the fighting games even though almost every fighter game series improved and catching up with it. I hope in sf6 things will be better

Pretty sure MK11 will sell triple what SFV sold, no matter how much people keep trying to say it will flop.

>Can the franchise recover from this?
Yes, there is a possibility that Capcom can make up for this in SF6. If learn from their mistakes. Don't try to dumb the game down to appeal to casuals, look at MK just give them a decent story mode, arcade mode, trials and single player content on release and you can appease them. If you have a decent roster as well. Also have a tutorial that goes beyond just the basics.
>Has it negatively affected the future of fighting games?
Not really since every other fighting game seems to be doing well.

Is it a bad idea to buy it now? Can i just get the cheapest version and buy juri with fm? I only played her in sfiv.

It was a bad idea to buy it before the arcade version. Now its okay. Juri is good in SFV but I prefer her in SFIV

I think the best way to appeal to everyone from newbies to pros is to keep the skill ceiling high (which V failed to do), while lowering the floor, i.e. providing plenty of tutorials and ways for players to learn and practice high-level mechanics.

Arcade Version didn't solve all the problems, but it is definitely in a much better state now, i would say go for it, just don't go in expecting the most amazing game

Juri is already in Arcade Edition, isn't she? and the game is fine (most of the time) and thanks to crossplay there's still a big pool of scrubs to fight with even in the middle of the night. It's not like getting into some anime game and finding out the only people playing are 200 maniacs on Discord.

thanks anons I didn't know she was already playable, I'm getting it

May I say before this thread continues : SFIV was TRASH.

current SFV is still the best rated game this gen out of the big fighters, even if that doesn't seem like a huge compliment

the main reason it only sold only round 3 million copies isn't simply the controversial launch. Tekken7 also only sold around 3 million copies, even though it had no controversy surrounding it and was the best selling fighting game series previously.

It's MK's insane growth in popularity that causes all other fighting games this gen to sell less (SC and DoA too). MKX sold over 11 million copies, making it by far the best selling fighting game of all times, and it's not even over for MK this gen as 11 was just released. MK is currently taking away most of the casual buyers from other fighting games.

you didn't know she was playable? Infiltration won Capcom Japan using her (and Nash). Go watch it some.
That being said Juri is quite a bit different in SF5 than SF4, so even if you liked her before you might not like her now.

t. 3S fag

kill yourself NRShill
SF never held some monopoly over the fighting game genre. In fact it was never even popular outside of 2 games (2 and 4), other than those games it only had a cult following.

stop parroting this shitty meme how SF ever took away spotlight from other fighting game series

why am I a NRS shill just for saying MKX had better gameplay than other NRS games. I don't like it as much as SF4 or SFV, but it's the strongest entry in the series by far.

Is this worth buying? I'm mostly just interested in playing 3rd Strike.

Tekken 7 is a predictable follow-up to a series that's never aimed particularly high, it may please casual gamers for a day or two but the stagnant ongoing series is definitely in the second tier of fighters way below Capcom or NetherRealm Studios games, and it's seriously getting old and tired. The lack of depth and subtlety and the emphasis on the offensive, rather than the defensive, puts this squarely two notches below the best in the genre, the "who-can-get-their-super-move-off-first" gameplay leaves much to be desired from a serious fighting game player. Like the prequels, Tekken 7 is geared towards casual gamers and anyone who's been exposed to more technical, more dynamic fighting games will quickly pass on tekken. Other top fighters, namely Street Fighter, DoA and MK games have advanced impressively in their latest installments; but the relic that is tekken just can't seem to evolve, furthermore many combos can be done simply by hitting 1-button, and the nearly "instant-kill" rage art moves are just laughably broken. Instead of a supplying a proper fighting engine, matches in T7 seem to rely heavily on "who can get their rage move off first". So many elements of the gameplay don't even require any sort of skill. In my book, slow motion over and over again also gets old very quickly. And in the end, it's more of a novelty or gimmick rather than an actual, thought-out fighting game mechanic. But hey, the casual crowd will be pleased!

If you want something a little more "button-masher-friendly," tekken might be your cup of tea.... Key word, might.

this
the times SF was successful it was completely justified, with SF2 basically creating the whole competitive fighting game genre and SF4 resurrecting it when the whole genre was shitting the bed for several years. Despite being great games, alpha and sf3 were niché games, and it's not surprising at all that SFV is also only hitting moderate levels of success in a time when the market is so oversaturated with decent fighters with better casual appeal.

people are just fucking jelly for SF having a dedicated and vocal followerbase, and like to pretend that it's SF's fault that everyone drops their favorite fighting games after a few months

it's alright
my only real gripe with the collection is that Alpha2 doesn't have online support

just play fightcade even though it's emulated way too fast. the 3s ports will eventually die but there will always be people on fightcade.

I think the best thirdstrike version is the one on ps3. I guess its okay in this game as well if you dont have a ps3 already

Its literally free to play. Just try it yourself you pleb. Do easy and normal survivals + demonstrations and character stories to make about 200 000fm = 2 characters of your pick.

Street Fighter will never recover because Fighting Games are dying.

Look at all the popular Fighting Games right now, what do they all have in common? Their main selling points lie mainly outside the actual gameplay. This is especially noticeable in NeatherRealm games, they know fully well that the average joe doesn't really give a shit about learning how to play a Fighting Game, so most of their effort is spent on production values, story and unlockables.

Mortal Kombat is absolutely DESTROYING all other fighting games on steam right now.

Console numbers are probably even more in favor of MK

Attached: flawless victory.png (715x646, 265K)

I was about to say that. I'm starting to think SFIV is one of the most overrated games of all time.

check back in a couple months

weeks*

Until these devs learn that the mass normies will only actually play and invest in a fighter that has a substantial story mode with tons of unlockables, instead of dumbing down the core gameplay to the detriment of veterans, it will never recover.

SFIV had its up and down but it at least peak to the extreme at USFIV and leaves the series on a good note.
SFV has been medicore throughout all version because the core design is fundamental bad and dull. It doesn’t have a chance to end on a strong note at this rate.

*a week

It'll need a big break. The general impression of SFV never improved for the general public, nothing they did has been effective. So a new game coming along with the question, wasn't SFV really bad? I'm not buying that on launch! Let the wounds heal, so the general thought on the series is wow I kinda miss that I'd love for them to bring it back. SF4 rode a similar train to huge success.

>but actually street fighter v totally recovered and is great and everyone loves it
We know this isn't true, entrants and views have been dropping for ages when SF4 (and now T7) only grew. At best SFV has improved to a point where the most blind dedicated fanboy isn't quite so embarrassed to defend it.

>Ryozo the Monster Hunter golden boy is in
He is head of the division, but that doesn't mean he has any plans for a fighting game. And the majority of people there are the same. They'd need to completely restructure and get someone else with a real drive to make something.

nah 2 weeks

What you said is good, but only a few really play online, so having a decent amount of single player content is needed. Hell I just checked the trophies on PS4 for SFV and only 18.8% of players have won a ranked match.

When SF6 drops they should have a bigger roster and basic modes at launch

Attached: President G.jpg (729x750, 111K)

No. Not even pushing for FightCade. This port has zero audio/visual options, no training mode for any of the games that aren't supported online, and some weird delay/frame stutters that assure me that these aren't "arcade perfect."

and what was the problem with this one ? i legit had fun playing although i'm not a fighting game turbo nigger .

This. At least a 20 character roster, story mode, arcade mode, ONLINE THAT ISN'T COMPLETE ASS, trials etc...

PANDA? REARRY?

>Can the franchise recover from this?
it already has, sfv is a legitimately good game at this point
a shame it took this long to get here but that's fighting games they take iterations to improve

The thing is, while casuals can't access the higher levels they do appreciate it in some way. No one likes the idea their game is the simple baby game. Even though they might not like thinking about it or get it being able to jack off that your game is so technical is a badge of honour. And it makes for good viewing.

I also think it can effect them unknowingly, in fact it is often better if that happens so they don't feel that they have to know it. This is why a lot of tutorials just don't get completed, they overwhelm a player. When if they feel they have a grip but then stumble on some more it is less egregious. Like it is cool when you accidentally do something you didn't think possible in a fighting game. Tekken does that well cause accidentally pulling off a juggle combo in front of your friends makes you look talented. But when a game is restrictive you are less likely to stumble on it. They also just like mechanics in general, make the lights flash to please their simple brains.

Extremely bare bones for a full-priced $60 game.
>Who gives a fuck? All I need is training mode, versus and online
That worked for hardcore players but meant that word of mouth between casuals maybe interested was "It's not worth it, it's basically unfinished, don't buy it".

I'm making the bar low for SF6 especially after 5.

Quoted the wrong dude

Probably when next gen consoles come out so like 2020/2021

>wow what an intense match that was close what a competitive and skill based game!

Attached: 1556584694474.webm (848x476, 2.1M)

Yes, just go back to the 2D models
Make the women have skimpier clothing
Give some DBZ tier fights in the story
Don't do what Mortal Kombat did

Who are the people complaining about SFV again? Oh, wait they don't play it. SFV is in a much better shape than it was years ago. It's fun and always active because of the PS4/PC connectivity.

Attached: D2oY421UkAAl72U.jpg (800x1200, 163K)

It's not, numbers are starting to decline in psnp.

Goddamn that Cammy was retarded

user this clearly was not representative of a real SFV match. There has to be a minimum of 10 throws in the corner.

I honestly don't understand how normal throws are still so good in SFV. But any match I watch is just corner carry to guess if I'll throw

She got BLACKED

>I honestly don't understand how normal throws are still so good in SFV
Ahaha yes, throws are... so good.

Attached: Crying_Ryu.jpg (405x530, 74K)

I bought it at launch and tried to play for over a year before giving up. To be fair, I liked SFIV and SSFIV infinitely more than AE and Ultra, with A3 being my favorite from nostalgia/etc.

Kek

Can I get out of bronze before SFV stops being free?

throws are garbage, people just get thrown repeatedly because getting thrown 5+ times is preferable to getting hit by a single cc

Is there a way to fix that outside of removing crush counters? They really seem to cause nothing but issues for SFV

Get rid of the H > M > L priority system. The fact the Heavy attacks beat every other button is the reason why people spam heavy attacks so much. Crush counters are just a bonus.
