What were they thinking?
What were they thinking?
"fuck niggers"
its quite good really
-
im sorry but exactly who ever has come away from SM64 saying "god i cant control this game at all, how horrible."
They didn't think games would use both.
For what it's worth, I think this sort of 3-way design could still work if it had a bit more ergonomy, because there's still a lot of games out there that don't require dual stick or analog + dpad, and it's more comfortable to me than the controllers that have the stick or dpad down, which basically makes either 3D or 2D games slightly uncomfortable.
never had a problem with it at the time
This controller is the ultimate underage zoomer detector. Anybody that's actually played with an N64 knows that's it's not bad.
Left and right handle for 2D games, middle and right handle for most 3D games, left and middle handle for first person shooters. Is it really that fucking hard to figure out?
Japanese people have 3 hands
Oh and the Z Button is the comfiest shit
it's so three people can use two controllers thus saving money
What about racing games? Can't use the analog stick and both of the bumpers for shifting. Trash controller.
That both the D-pad and the thumb stick should be primary inputs because you probably don't need both.
If you had ever picked one up you'd know there's a trigger button right under the middle stick where you index finger falls. Like a fucking shoulder button. Dumbass.
Are there even any games that require all three parts of the controller?
Protype GC-controller
>revolutionises gaming forever
Say thanks kid.
N64 controller is terrible. I can understand what led to it being that design, but as to why they never released a revision after it became clear that it was a flawed design....
Saturn controller + trigger + analog stick
consoles hadn't really had to solve the problem of where to put the analog stick yet except the Saturn 3D pad (which got it right, but was a POS otherwise), so Nintendo had to do some experimentation
>but as to why they never released a revision after it became clear that it was a flawed design...
They did.
It was called the Gamecube.
Doom 64/Turok, still not enough buttons.
How was it a 'flawed design'?
Just because it was functional doesn't mean it was good. The D-pad was ass, the C buttons should've been a stick, and the bizarre three pronged look made it confusing for many people to hold. Yeah it functioned but it wasn't a good controller.
its the ultimate chad controller. you put the middle end in your girl's ass and control her convulsions to use the stick.
thats why rumble was invented, virgins. you think people really care if they get haptic feedback when firing a gun? its for your gf you retard
>and the bizarre three pronged look made it confusing for many people to hold
Congrats, you're dumber than a game journalist
You cannot comfortably access all of the inputs, and there were games that needed them, not to mention the janky mousewheel stick. There's a reason why picrelated's go for $100 bucks more than the first party controller.
>The D-pad was ass
>the C buttons should've been a stick
these are both fair assessments but it doesn't make the controller bad, it's just not perfect
Is there any game that requires you to hold the controller in the Middle and Left section but not the right one? So: Stick + Dpad
Better question: Why is the narritive about the N64 controller looking wacky and not how SEGA and Sony expected you to play 3D games on just a D-pad?
How do you play Kirby 64 on this without having your thumbs slam into each other?
You are as dumb as him. Dpad is great. Its the exact same as snes.
Shit mang, I dunno, I'm not gonna drop a bill on a used controller.
>You cannot comfortably access all of the inputs, and there were games that needed them
Name 3
because Sony added analog sticks later and created the modern controller layout, and everyone remembers the Dreamcast for 3D Sega games rather than the Saturn
"I bet this'll make OP really mad one day." And then they laughed in anime.
i must be thinking of a different dpad if it really is the same one as the snes, sorry pal
Doom 64, Turok, Turok 2
>having to double dip
way to prove your point
Now you cannot strafe with d-pad while aiming with the analog stick without going southpaw total retard. This was the one thing the n64 had over the dreamcast.
Jet Force Gemini, if you really need 3
Those are just the ones I know off the top of my head, I'm not exactly a fan of the console.
ahahakillmeehehe
There were several games you could configure the controls to work the way you are describing. Also 2 controllers holding only the middle sections.
Have you considered most developers aren't going to give you a control scheme that is next to impossible to use?
This honestly looks like the least comfortable controller ever made.
