The above example is rediculous. The point is that Mecha's appeal isn't with cute girls. Even when a mecha show has cute girls, either the show doesn't do well as a whole, or the girls become the focus.
I haven't watched big robot cartoons for a few years though, so I'm not 100% certain of the current environment. I do know the Voltron reboot still gets flack on /m/ for not have enough Voltron.
