Yes, but now that Mania exists and sequels are inevitable there aren't really any reasons to care.
Colors, Generations and Mania all broke the cycle, Mania made people actually want to see obscure lame characters like Mighty the fucking Armadillo
>Lack of friends in screens
When will the "Sonic's shitty friends" meme die?
No, keep the Game Released stage and skip the rest
Mania is just as bad as forces, outside of physics.
>classic pandering
>reused levels with slight changes
>terrible, nearly nonexistent plot.
The only good thing about it is spritework and physics.
Who gives a shit it's all about gameplay
>OLD BAD
>Caring about plot in a Sonic game
Fucking zoomer
I don't remember Sonic getting slammed in reviews until 06 and then people kind of forgot about Sonic until memes said the series sucked.
>zoomer
Nigga I played all the fucking sonic games, and the originals on genesis hardware.
and its the same shit.
Same
Fucking
Shit.
Just reworked for modern platforms.
If you all wanted the same shit why didn't you all just ask them to port the genesis games over?
Apparently ya all did when you trashed Colours
Yeah, 2-D always beats 3-D sonic
>Nigga I played all the sonic games, and the originals on genesis hardware
So did I. I play the fuck out of these games. If you can't tell apart the level design between the original and the remixed levels, just cause they have the same aesthetic theme, you're retarded.
>literally say they are reused levels with slight changes
>Ree you can't see the difference you're retarded!!!!!!
what an argument.
forces did the same shit. Its not better.
>Literally say they reused the levels with slight changes
To win over the classic fans already. If you weren't retarded, you'd notice how the first act is usually a mash-up of both acts while the second act is generally a completely new concept fused with new paths and level designs.
But since "THEY LOOK SAME, THEY MUST BE THE SAME" you won't care.
>reused levels with slight changes

I will crush omochao in a trash compactor. I will kill big the cat with a laser pistol.
not anymore. with forces, we knew it would be shit from the beginning. and the movie
Not you again. Look, cream the rabbit, storm the albatross, or even chaos zero will never be playable on team sonic racing. Just boycott the game and leave us alone already.
Is this what peak autism looks like? I played Mania, and I said they have changes despite being reused but nope, you insist that I am retarded. Epin.
And completely throw away that forces did the same shit. Yeah, good job user. You are so smart. I applaud you, you once again prove that classic fans are incredibly intelligent.
The new cycle is an good game then some mediocre ones afterward.
only first Sonic is aceptable.
Everything after is shit for man children
>And completely throw away that Forces did the same shit
Forces isn't bad because it reused levels. It's bad because it's a piece of shit "game" that isn't challenging or engaging. It's a game that you can literally beat holding down a single button.
>I said they have changes despite being reused
You said slight changes, not entire overhauls like this post shows >you insist that I am retarded
Yes. I really do.
>First info on new Sonic game
>Hopes are raised
This never happens anymore.
>Sequels are inevitable
>All of the Mania team looking for jobs post Mania+
user, Sonic Team are fucking retarded, do you really think they'll hold onto this?
>First info on new Sonic game
>Everyone knows it's shit already
>The Sonic defense force tries desperately to make their game look good, engage in a rivalry with another upcoming game that they'll never win, or with themselves if they're that desperate
>Repeat process until game comes out
>Game comes out
>It's shit
>Nobody is surprised
>Remebering Sonic fans saying how Sonic Forces will beat Mario Odyseey
I almost remember that. Even I doubted it was going to be better and I was actually looking forward to it, and look what happened.
This. I'm shocked that Mania even happened. Shit is a miracle.
>this thread
god, you just can't mention mania without a fight spurring anymore, can you? I swear it didn't used to be this way.
Because Mania is a safe approach to a tried and proven formula after years of either attempting to recreate it or just different shit entirely, and everything since has either dropped the ball or lost the interest of fans for one reason or another
Thank you for posting this, people who say the old levels are barely changed need to see these more.
I just don't think people should forget/disregard how much genuine hype the game generated back in 2016-2017 because of the latest mis-steps, I haven't at least.
it was broken in 2009 I think with colors and generations but besides that 2-game grace period yeah it pretty much sums up sonic.
It kinda did in lost world where people realized that even if you dont have sonic's friends in a game, Sega will still make it shitty. I swear people only tolerated sercret rings because it was a solo sonic game.
>The Advance games will never get remade with widescreen so the bullshit enemy placement is visible
Need to look around more, bro.
youtu.be
Advance was the perfect evolution of classic sonic's gameplay. It had sonic tails knuckles and new characters in their updated designs going around interesting and fun levels. The boost gimmick in advance 2 ruined it.
Me neither. I remember those days. I was so excited to finally get a successor to the Classics despite not having played them in the 90s, and despite not being my all time favorite game, it's the only game I've bought 4 times.
>terrible, nearly nonexistent plot.
where's the damn problem here?
The threads leading up to that game's release were what I could only call Autistically Magical. Pure Weaponized Autism, and I loved every second of it. The game may get more shitposters nowadays but no amount of shitposting will change that part of history.
based
>Dropdash
>Tails' adorable pre-game animation.
It's fucking beautiful, user. Genuinely excited. I should pay more attention to SAGE. The only nitpick of mine is the Speed Shoes should just play that dope Pinball Party rendition of Super Sonic Racing instead of also speeding it up.
Sonic has been a garbage-mediocre franchise for two decades now. I'll never understand why it's so god damn popular outside of perpetual autism being attracted to it.
God portable sound chips sucked
Makes me wish I was there for them, sounds like fun.
>nearly nonexistent plot
How is that a negative.
It's a shame cause the compositions were great.
youtube.com
Don't worry, I'm sure it will all happen again when a follow up is announced.
Yeah, I recommend looking up the Sonic Chaos remake too.
Forces>Mania
>metallic madness crossed out
I didnt think it would get in the game either, it was a nice surprise
>The boost gimmick in advance 2 ruined it.
The boost in Advance 2 is just a visual effect, though. 2 has worse problems, like its entire second half having weak level design filled with bottomless pits and cheap "pop-up" spike placement.
That might be awhile. Personally I don't expect any successor to Mania until 2021, I fully expect a new main game of some sort from Sonic Team next year and then another Classic game for the 30th anniversary
I feel like they need to zoom the camera in just a small bit. Right now there's constantly a ton of empty space on the screen because of how far out it is. Makes it feel a bit amateurish.
That'll just make it feel all the more fresh and exciting when they do the surprise reveal, even more shocking if they reveal it to be all new levels this time, so I'm A-Ok with that. For now we are getting close to TSR and I'm looking forward to it, Sonicbro.
>Personally I don't expect any successor to Mania until 2021, I fully expect a new main game of some sort from Sonic Team next year and then another Classic game for the 30th anniversary
Why would they not just release both games around the same time like they did in 2017.
Same, all the new footage and screenshots look great, and was just what I needed to get the trailer off my mind.
That is very likely as well, honestly. But then, what would be the 2020 release? Personally I would love to get some ports or TSR DLC rather than a new game next year, but I doubt that's going to happen.
And now thinking about that reminded me that posting sonic music is fun to do.
youtu.be
You also seen the new gameplay by gamespot? It's quite incredible how much they graphically overhauled it from the 2018 builds.
youtu.be
>But then, what would be the 2020 release? Personally I would love to get some ports or TSR DLC rather than a new game next year, but I doubt that's going to happen.
I don't see why more ports seems unlikely. Sega already said that their recent pc ports were profitable, and were looking into porting more of their library, future and old, to pc.
Of course they could also just release nothing. It's not like they had much planned for 2019 before TSR got delayed. I guess they had another Olympics game in the works or whatever.
>tfw this could mean stuff like Unleashed, Colors and even THE WHITEHEAD REMAKES on pc
Yeah, I agree. It's just a shame we probably won't get a demo before it comes out, I had so much fun with the Transformed demo before finally getting the game.
Godspeed to a PC port of Unleashed and Colors then. I'm hoping they also come to the Switch at some point alongside Generations, but I won't get my hopes up.
Definitely the latter two. I don't know if Sega would ever bother with Unleashed considering it's one of the titles they pulled from store shelves.
I suppose we'll have to see, haven't they been showing Unleashed a bit more love lately, like the compatibility on xbox one?
It could happen, as they did apparently give out free codes for the Xbox version around Christmas
>tfw can't wait for someone to mod Team Sonic's team boost music to be the double boost from Forces just for the joke value
>haven't they been showing Unleashed a bit more love lately, like the compatibility on xbox one?
I'm pretty sure backwards comparability for 360 games is done mainly on Microsoft's side. All Sega really did was say "sure, go ahead."
sure, but there are a lot of inaccuracies. no one complains about sonic's friends anymore and gameplay is never the "same old" because they always change something or fuck something up.
I hate to diss on Reach for the Stars because I love that song, but I wouldn't mind seeing someone do that desu
They should have had Endless Possibility or It Doesn't Matter as Sonic's theme, those fit him better and reusing Reach for the Stars, which was already used in Transformed, even if it's a remix from Jun, just feels off when just about everyone else gets their regular themes. I'm honestly kind of shocked they didn't use Fist Bump instead to shill Forces
>Endless Possibility
>It Doesn't Matter
good choices.
This.
Give or take a few outliers, it's so true you shouldn't even ask.
Sonic 1-3&K > Freedom Planet > Forces > Mania > all other Basednic Games.
If I had to ask, what do you think made Forces better?
When you are getting to be a 50+ year old Sonic Fan You learn to ignore the cynicisms and just enjoy what you want to enjoy and what you don't want to.
Same with the movie. You can express your distaste all you want. But you all are just repeating yourselves at this rate with how Sonic is over time.
Man, that old? Not too bad, user.
Thanks. Its a waste of mind power to be overly angry at a silly american decision of a design for an anthromorphic character. Just relax. Let the others complain. Once they get older either they stay in that cynicism state or they become like me. Just relaxing and going with the flow.
I like the way you think, user. You're welcome.
I reckon Yahtzee put it perfectly
"It's good! Sonic's good again! Fuck you, mum! I was right to paint my tits blue and wriggle around on the Chesterfield!", but then, as the weeks unfold, reality inexorably sinks into the resistant minds of the public like a lead weight on a jelly. "Well, I guess it wasn't perfect. Room for some improvement. Quite a lot of improvement, actually. Still better than Sonic 2006-- Actually, you know what? Let's just stop talking about it. Holy shit! They announced another Sonic game! Mum, buy more blue paint! This'll be the one!"
No
Well, good thing we have Mania and TSR
As a person who's been playing the Genesis games since 5 years old, Mania is fucking boring, tiring, and insulting. I've playing hydrocity and green hill more times than I can count. Only 4 new stages, out of 13. It's insulting how retards will eat up the same shit over and over again, classictards truly deserve their name. I just want some new stuff god damn it.
if there was a constant criticism of mania is the reused stages
because the new ones are fucking great
also act 2 of the reused stages are kinda cool imho
Hey now, ease up, partner. It's not like plenty of Mania fans don't want new stuff either, it's literally what the fanbase has said about Mania the most, we want a fully original follow up. I guess we just enjoyed it because it was a nice breather after Sonic had been going through a rough spot since 2013. I'm sure you'll get your wish in due time.
Mania nailed the gameplay and the old stages were changed up just enough to where I didn't mind them. Though I do wish they had more new zones, or even just a fully original game.
I hope they can do that too
We will see when Team Sonic Racing comes out.
I mean, what's the worst that could happen?
Anyone's whose hopes are raised by the announcement of a new Sonic game would have to either be stupid or retarded.
>Mania is fucking boring, tiring, and insulting
Calm down, man. It's not that serious. Sure we'd want new levels in a Mania 2, but what does it matter if the remixed levels are changed up significantly and the fucking game plays good?
I was ok with it too, but at the same time I kinda see where he's coming from. We've been on a nostalgia trip with Sonic since 2011 and some people are growing rather tired of it. But honestly, I think Mania is at least the special exception to me because of how much they did with what they were forced to reuse. The game has very visible passion and I won't let that go to waste. I do sincerely hope a follow up will let them go wild, but as it is, the first Mania was a nice, feel good anniversary title. You're definitely not wrong about playing good though, Mania's physics and controls are butter thanks to the Retro Engine.
With the new footage and screenshots that released yesterday, I'm pretty confident the game will end up being really good, but it's still going to be touted as shit by Sonic fans who are upset over various elements of the game, or people still upset there's no transformations or SEGA characters. And of course, many people will just write it off because it involves Sonic period.
Well, at least I'm still holding out for it. Sonic was never good memers are losers anyway.
Same, the 21st can't come any sooner. I'm eager to give the game a go.
I wish the Sonic fanbase as a whole could learn from you. You seem like a chill dude.
Doesn't stop from SEGA and Paramount ruining the beloved franchise in which fans can do 1000X better by now.
Only 2 weeks and 6 days to go, user.
I still can't believe they delayed it for a whopping 8 months, but I guess it's starting to pay off.
Yeah, I respect people like that.
I was under the impression they would only delay it until February, but I'm glad they decided to wait until May, it feels like a perfect summer game to sink lots of time into.
>Checkpoint missions are back from Transformed
>Now use the actual lightposts from the games
So many fans are going to miss out on shit like this.
please tell me there's gonna be a Bingo Highway remix
youtu.be
What do you think?
>Hope
>3D Sonic
MODERNFAG COPE LMAO
very nice
This has been a pretty good early morning thread, sonicbros. To be honest it's probably the time where discussing this series is the safest anyway, but it's time for bed. Stay safe.
Man, the Sonic Heroes soundtrack was so fucking good.
Compared to Sonic Adventure 1 and 2. Its subpar.
Not really. I really like all three of those soundtracks, but the compositions behind Heroes beat out almost anything from the Adventure games.
>Lack of friends in screens
>Good
Fuck off
Good thread
