I was just saying that outside of the roster there isn't much to Ultimate. Barely any new stages. Barely any new modes. Barely any old modes. Barely echoes for some reason. The DLC was picked to advertise Smash Bros. to people that would otherwise be uninterested, not to advertise Persona or any other franchise.

Take that "leak" that's gained a lot of traction: a character like Doomguy is synonymous with classic FPS's and PC gaming, and has specific resonance with an audience that traditionally aren't buying Nintendo/Smash. You have him in the game and pull him off well, and suddenly you have people that otherwise wouldn't be interested in Smash/Switch becoming more inclined to make a purchase. The same is true for Minecraft/Steve, and maybe Erdrick in Japan (though to a lesser extent) - the only exception to this is Ryu Hayabusa, who's probably still most well-known for his NES appearances than anything that came after, and seems like a very traditional pick that isn't going to be drawing in a whole lot of new people. It's possible that they'd throw in at least one character like this to throw a bone to the Smash fanbase, but I think if that was the case, then Ryu Hayabusa isn't the character that they'd choose - it would probably be Banjo, Lloyd, or a Nintendo character like Isaac or even Waluigi.

I think the future DLC is going to follow this trend: I honestly think a character like Gordon Freeman or Frisk is more likely than Porky, because of the new audience they would attract.

Echoes “not taking any effort” just isn’t true. Yes, they obviously don’t take all the time and effort as a regular character in Smash but it’s not quite effortless as people think. If you want to prove me wrong, then go whip me up an echo for any smash game in about 5 minutes. Shouldn’t be a problem, since it’s “no effort” right? Obviously I’m joking here. Making an a new model for any game, especially a decent looking one, takes effort. Most people don’t even bother to make alternate colors for characters in games. On top of that you have to get voice acted lines for these characters.. Even if they have the exact same voice actor you still need to spend time recording lines. Then there’s also the taunt animations, and different victory screens. All of this also has to be play tested as well. I’d imagine at least one echo has cause some glitches that needed to be fixed during development that wouldn’t have happened if they were never included.They also need their own render for the css, trophy in previous games, and their own classis mode. And all of these so far are assuming that the echoes are the ones that are glorified alternate costumes like Daisy and Richter. Others have animation changes during regular gameplay, others have moves with changed properties, and sometimes even a few completely different moves than their origin character. Along with even more bug testing this causes, it’s also time spent balancing the characters.

Nobody is going to buy Smash because it has Joker DLC in it.

Sonic has always been good. He can easily fuck you over by simply timing his up special for characters who like to grab the ledge safely. His back throw kills at high percent, which is not hard for Sonic to do at all. His forward air can even knock you out of the stage, and his back air is a very reliable kill.
