Too bad only the first chapter in the first game scared me, you quickly get used to the atmosphere and the... silly nature of the game's writing. The RPG-maker visual style doesn't help in setting a proper horrific tone, either. It's why the sequel had a better approach in my opinion going with a gameplay closer to visual novels. If only it wasn't for the bizarre and TEDIOUS game design or the false promise of a sequel to begin with, even if I liked knowing more about the other students who were in heavenly host it could have been a great sequel.

The thing about the sequels to Blood Covered is that they take that game's perfectly fine ending and designate it as non-canon so the sequels can shit it all up...sort of. Book of Shadows is mostly fine, it's not necessary but it is a nice set of asides that don't really hurt the integrity of the first game at all, BUT THEN the final chapter happens. Building off the designated canon ending, it ends on a cliffhanger so ballbustingly aggravating that you pretty much have to play Blood Drive afterwards, at which point the whole thing really starts going to fuck in a hellbasket. Funnily enough, Blood Drive isn't all that bad to play for the most part, I certainly hope the PC release fixed all the technical issues of the original Vita release that rendered it obnoxious to play at a base level, but the story jumps the shark so damn hard that it almost makes you wish you just never played the sequels at all. But technically it does play better than Blood Covered or Book of Shadows so even then it's hard to be seethingly mad at its narrative ineptitude.
tl;dr - The sequels are a thing. You don't have to play them but you're in it for the long haul if you do and you might wish you hadn't at the end of it all.
