EO is better overall. LoR has all its depth frontloaded in party setup, actual battle is pretty simple. The game also has poor balance overall and makes a seemingly irrelevant character stat(lucky number) actually be incredibly important for post game since only even numbers can use a huge xp boosting pact. Definitely a NIS game though since it boils down to intense power leveling/grinding and character rebirth optimization.

But then fucking Crimea happened. Thanks Putin nigga, poking his nose in not his business. Exchange rate for USD/RUB went nuts and now AAA titles cost 1999 RUB and smaller games doubled their price while wages and shit stayed the same. It's not that affordable anymore. And I don't really feel like pirating nowadays.

FFXII would've been a great start, but it's not on sale. (Really most FFs are a good start, don't play FFV and FFVI on PC though)
Ys series is great, though it's action RPG side. Start of Oath of Felghana, it's the shortest.
Legend of Heroes Trails in the Sky series is extremely good and turn based, but it's also very lengthy.

For what it is, it's pretty fun so far, IMO.
It could've been a lot better though, I think, if they gave you actual control over your characters rather than have them auto-battle. The hard limit of three active skills per character also bugs me.
The "voice acting" is done by a text-to-speech bot, I think, so I'd disable that shit as soon as possible if I were you.

Mind you, I've never played any of the original Wizardry titles, so I might've had different expectations when going in, but for the cost of less than a good meal it's been worth it so far.
