For gameplay, balance it entirely around making it as unfun as possible to people who aren't esports tryhards. Gameplay wise I saw the infamous Roadhog nerf as the death of the game. It was abundantly clear from then on the prospect of going remotely off-meta and actually experimenting with different characters and their abilities was heavily discouraged. I wasn't even a Roadhog main and I was pissed as fuck.
For the storytelling, just hire the most absolute incompetent people as possible. I could go into an absolute fit of unbridled autism regarding how OW's story has been tailormade to infuriate me as much as physically possible but I already have and I don't wanna get an aneurysm.
Just know I'm still utterly devastated that a game with both a very solid base for both gameplay and storytelling dropped the ball so incredibly hard and I'm still not over it. It was the most fun I ever had with my friends online for the first year and after that there was no coming back.

Add hammond MUCH earlier and fix his design, don't do le epin troll bait and switch bullshit, add junker queen and MUCH sooner, add a minimum of 5 heroes a year (same with shorts, that are at least 10 minutes long), DON'T fuck around with the gamemodes so ctf, ffa, 3v3 etc are all always in arcade AND have the proper maps and gameplay mechanics the modes were built for, MUCH better skin, some of which even change the species of hero as well as changes the hero's voice completely, have a system similar to valves where people could trade and buy the items they want instead of this gambling mess, no more sexism so females look attractive and have nice revealing bodies and not just the males, an eventual campaign that could lead into a movie, prettier menu overlay, able to change items in game, back to multiple of one hero per team, animated character portrait model on bottom right like tf2, community able to submit maps, skins, and other ideas for an overall better game, actual custom maps like arena modes and deathrun like tf2 but give the community the tools to make it even better, etc etc etc

Kind of surprising it fell into obscurity as quick as it did. I mean, yeah, it survived 4 years? Longer than many other games but much shorter than it probably had hoped, especially going up against the most infamous "Oh, people still play that piece of shit?" game.

Man overwatch was pretty fun in the beginning without all the esports and shit with it. I could play multiple heros on the same team and just clown around with my friends. Now, every match is a tryhard match where you must play the meta even in fucking casuals. How the fuck do they think to succeed when they have such little content so limited. Let me fucking play all the game modes instead of having them on a timer.
