Isabelle has been forced and shilled since NL's release. This isn't a case of "oh she just happened to get really popular", they WANTED this to happen. She's featured on the game's 3DS menu diorama and takes Rover's role in CF as the greeter so you can be sure you'll see her every time you play, even if you never go to Town Hall. Literally no AC character before Isabelle has ever been put on a pedestal this fucking high.

Nook was the most iconic and recognizable character, but Nintendo never really acknowledged this and he was never shoved in your face. K.K. was prominent in advertising and such, but it never went beyond that. Resetti was also iconic but he's the last character anyone would pick to represent AC. Sable was a fan favorite but never got any decent merch. To put things into perspective, Isabelle was promoted to THE series mascot no less than two years after her initial debut. She has appeared in three crossovers as the representative of AC as a whole.

Compare AC related fan works prior to NL and now. Everyone had their favorite, and almost every one of the main cast of special NPCs got a pretty equal amount of love. Nowadays all I ever see is Isabelle, just one character, and that's it. Smash has only made things worse. You don't see this happening to other franchises with similarly-sized casts like Mario or Sonic. Even though they have their main characters, their huge casts get lots of love too. AC used to be all about its huge cast but now everyone's been shoved aside for Isabelle.

Also it doesn't help that her fans are annoying as fuck and throw a fit whenever anyone disrespects their waifu or she's given a less significant role.

I was innocently pretending that New Leaf would be fucking amazing after the rehash that was City Folk, despite hypocritically playing it with friends on my homebrewed Wii. I thought that this would be a major breakthrough. I was going to buy a 3DS JUST for New Leaf. The hype was insane. The little morsels they fed us, anticipating every little thing from the Jap release, going on fucking /vg/ to discuss AX with other fans, it was so comfy, we'd even get together and watch the AC movie on livestream together.

And then I see that fucking yellow dog trailing the player in that small clip, I didn't think much of it. I thought it was a random villager or NPC that you had to lead to somewhere. Nintendo of America knew this. They took inspiration from Seinfeld and Friends, to match the comfy "nothingness" the game seemed to be about. This look is very iconic, especially for older AC fans. These were human kids trying to fit in with the animals they took up residence with so they wear the horns. The remaining cast rounded out everything and they gave equal importance to each of them. Everyone had their place, their moments. It was pretty fucking good.

But now it becomes clear to me with the change in leadership with the old guard passing down the torch to the new guard (Most of them being female) they were ready to fuck this dynamic up. They trashed everybody. Resetti gets cucked into a paywall because "muh feefees" for zoomer 2000s children growing up with post-9/11 parents sheltering them, K.K. is reduced to a flaming jamocha sipping liberal arts hipster faggot, Tom Nook is a rarely seen capitalist jerkwad with no sense of authenticity, and then they fucking screw Sable and Mable over. All just for this one fucking dog, who by the way is based on a breed that is so stupid it thinks it gets trapped if surrounded by a ring of Pringles cans. I liken this to a classic sitcom where the actors either die off or get written out of the show and they try to replace it with a new character, and the new character starts to draw all the attention like a little brother/sister's newborn baby sibling, and the life of the show tanks in quality.

Just restore the dialog options for the NPCs and it'll be a huge improvement. Blathers was completely gutted in NL. Working for Brewster was the best thing but they could have done more with it and given more character dialog from it.

I'd like the option to ask townies to do work again but I don't think that's coming back. Sometimes I play actually wanting to do errands for them and sometimes I want to chat, it bugs me that they made it all one option so I have to talk to people and just hope for a job.

I don't mind having all the control that you got in NL, I would rather them give you too much to do and let me pick and choose what not to do rather than them rolling it back too much to GCN/Wild World levels of customization.

They need to overhaul the way public works projects work though, it was a mess. Waiting for townspeople to suggest something, and then nobody but you contributes to it meant you were just inevitably grinding on the island if you wanted to get stuff done.

You either play game cube or newleaf. Pocket camp is pretty garbage, it makes new leaf look expansive in the amount of dialogue it has. Furthermore the premium currency is becoming rarer and everything is getting more expensive, and when this is where the majority of new clothes and furniture come from that’s a problem.

GameCube and New Leaf are both the best for different reasons. I personally prefer GameCube though.

NST is actually based for reviving her and redesigning her for modern times, that just allowed Koizmui to go back and pluck her right up as is with no fuss. And remember that she was still a character from Donkey Kong, quite literally the first game of the Mario line technically speaking, she didn't really go away. Helps when you make everyone in the game just a menu without any backstory and have her be the menu you interact with the most. Past games at least gave characters a story you could follow and get to know past one or two dialog boxes.

He actually was made as an annoyance first to deter cheaters, the aspect was a side bonus.

You can unlock him.

He shows up once, but his job gets shut down and you have to reopen his office to get him to come back afterwards.

Made him optional. Didn't outright remove him. There's a project you can fund that permanently adds him to your village. They kept him neutered though cus you can just tell him you didn't actually reset and he believes you and never gets more upset than he already has. Very weird.
