Hal isn't about creativity and passion anymore it's about churning out samey, easily designed games with slight differences to minimize work and maximize profits

Kumazaki is the overall best director Kirby has had. Sakurai should be credited for laying the groundwork, but his best Kirby game was remade by Kumazaki in a strict upgrade; Adventure is still great though. Shimomura had an eye for aesthetics and the most unique vision for the gameplay, but the actual level and puzzle designs were lacking in accordance with that vision (with 64 it's partly excusable due to the issues with cut content). Flagship brought the series in a wildly new direction but then followed that up with the most bog-standard mainline Kirby since Adventure (I do like Squeak Squad anyway), and Goodfeel essentially made a spinoff in the same genre as the mainline.

Kumazaki's games have the best overall balance of gameplay, story, and music and keep pushing their own formula forward. It's admittedly a bit stale at this point, but Star Allies refined the gameplay itself better than any previous game in the series (although its level design took a hit compared to Robobot, which is a shame), and after its post-launch content Kumazaki and HAL make note that a new era of Kirby is coming. The knew the right moment to stop and come up with something fresh, whatever that ends up being. The only shame is that the experimental visual styles are mostly kept to spinoffs; imagine if they saved that Clay tech from Rainbow Curse for Star Allies.

I can't name the objective best games in the series, but my personal Top 5 is majority Kumazaki, or half of it if you count KSSU as half-Sakurai.

Because they feel that the Sakurai games are overrated and the fact that for the most part, Sakurai has a giant bias towards the games he made when it comes to smash.

Reminder that all of the N64 kids whose first exposure to Kirby was Crystal Shards and think that ability mix was an innovative new way to give the player an unprecedented number of abilities and ways to experiment never played Dream Land 3 which had exactly the same number of abilities by virtue of ability + animal friend combinations.

Super Star Ultra is a downgrade from Super Star. The art direcrion and character animation and expressions are far more plastic ang generic. The gameplay and controls were altered to the point where the game is way out of balance, acting as a "very easy mode" of Super Star to the point where the True Arena barely gets to SNES Arena levels of challenge, even with remixed bosses with new moves and less health between bosses. The new minigames are a miss, and the only new subgame I would consider to be good is Revenge of the King. The others are total slogs. They didn't have any creative new ideas for Kirby when remaking the game and they failed to capture the spirit and balance of the original. Also, no on-couch co-op sucks.

DL2's level design is good. DL3's his hit or miss, and 64's is very good. Compared to the modern game, each Sakurai and Shimomura game goes above and beyond designing enemies and levels to keep testing Kirby's controls and abilities.

I've played every game, Dream Land 2 had fewer abilities and half as many animal friends as 3 making it irrelevant for this particular point.

Something about that one made it my personal favorite along with Adventure. Both of those games were hella solid.

I don't want a K64 remake. I'd rather Kirby move onto some new permutation. Whether that means a new approach to 2D design or the jump to full 3D, I think SA was the perfect bookend to the RtDL formula.

I respect Shimomura's style and people who think those are the best titles, but personally I really like Kumazaki's approach to the gameplay. Kirby moving to 3D under him will be DMC-lite and I am all for that.

An expressive, silly friend like that is perfect character to accompany Kirby. They're kids that would naturally get along and want to go on adventures together. Bandana Dee fits more as Dedede's friend, since he wants to stay put and train.

It's the natural transition of how Star Allies plays into 3D. That game already gives every ability a pretty extensive movelist and each Dream Friend is mostly unique as well.

I guess there wouldn't be a ton of systems or a style mechanic though, and I would assume most encounters would be against many fodder enemies instead of 2-6 major enemies most of the time, so I guess the better comparison is that I think Kumazaki's 3D Kirby will be like a cutesy Sengoku Basara with some light platforming and puzzling.

What's wrong with Kirby's best friend being a thematic and ideological continuation of what Kirby represents? Gooey is, essentially, a pure spirit. He's the same species as Dark Matter, but has no trace of evil in his soul. He's somewhat mentally vacant, but all he is capable of his friendship and good. That makes him a perfect ally for Kirby. Kirby himself has more of a complete character, though, which is why he's the star.

Anyone can "play" off of Kirby. He's effectively a blank slate. Look at the cutscenes from games like DL2, 3, 64, they all have kirby interacting with others in a way where the others bring the actual character and kirby is just the pawn.

Why not Kirby just have two sidekicks then? Mario has Luigi as his partner in crime while Yoshi as his mount/transportation to make some levels easier. Kirby can have BD and Gooey depending on the situation. I played it recently, it's my favorit Kirby game. I hate that it's a sub-10 hour game when you know how to get everything, but I still had fun. Favorite ost in the series, too.

I believe the queen is really just a slightly larger normal fairy. We know she floats and her sleeves seem to long so it's not crazy to assume her body is actually smaller than it looks. When you look at her and ribbon close to each other with this in mind it kind of works.

People often forget that Gooey's origins come from DL2. There he's rescued the same way as the other animal friends are, but he serves no practical use in the long run. He's absolutely the runt of the animal friends group.

This level is peak kino when you play with Kaze's 2x speed hack. Level is good enough on its own but the speed makes it way more fun to run through. The dedede section is great, it has some of the best music in the game, and the shards actually require a bit of thinking in advance. An overall brilliant stage, definitely the one that stuck with me the most.

In my eyes, Battle Royale had a good idea for Bandana Dee but they crashed his development with no survivors just by making him the teammate
In my eyes, the best way to do it would be to keep Bandana Waddle Dee as the top Dee and King Dedede’s right hand man. Have Dee would act like more of an active rival that deeply idolizes both Dedede and Kirby, and trains to one day prove himself to his friends. He still keeps the doubt of never being able to match Kirby, and of his best never being enough, but he isn’t a ball of anxiety that knows nothing other than acting meek and “you can do it Kirby!” Have the boy be humble about his origins but the inferiority complex is shit.
Also the dissolving of the Dedede/BanDee dynamic from SSU was a mistake, at least Star Allies did better than the 3DS games

What was your favorite power up?
I liked Rock+Grass for the rock forms, in particular the flight ones.
I didn't play Kirby 3 (or 2? whichever one had animal buddies) until later, so when I replayed I got the references.

It's a special game. I think Kirby 64's biggest issue is its length. There's replayability with needing the crystal shards for the true ending, but much of those you can get on first pass through a level anyways (though much you can't as well).

It's greatest strength was its music, followed by the form-combos and stage-design. Shiver Star in particular is very memorable, with its implication of being an Earth destroyed by climate freezing. Every level had a different sort of theme to it if I recall, yet still variety within.

02 and the Dark Matter in particular are good villains, and I've always missed them. It's fair though, since they were the antagonists in Dream Land 2 and 3 I believe. Their motivation of being unable to escape lonlinee/sadness, and wanting others to feel it as well. is interesting, although not the most fleshed out.

Final Boss theme is probably my favorite track.

There was an autist years back who got triggered when Gooey was even mentioned or considered in the past. He had a way of posting which confirmed him as autistic and the same person whenever he popped up. I can imagine him raging when Gooey did return.

Farewell, Star Allies. I will not forget you after the rollercoaster of emotions that came with your hype train.
Also, that Dedede looks terrible.

In general I liked the curling ability. Fridge was also nice for cheesing. Lightsaber was classic. Overall though I'd say it was the curling one. The animal buddies rock thing was really neat though, one of the more interesting abilities since it's about changing kirby's movement rather than his attacks. Wish they did more with that kind of concept.

The whole charm of Waddle Dees was that they were incredibly shy, meek, humble, and unassuming. Kirby was also allowed to have a personality besides "is a cute baby" and "the infinite power meme"
The more the series went on the more they became generic mascots. Waddle Dees became less of a race of creatures and more of a bunch of walking plush toys with a handful of mascots that act nothing like Waddle Dees. Kirby has recovered a little bit since the anime but not entirely.
