Most achievements aren't padding. They usually are either "finish chapter x" progression stuff or something really silly that doesn't take away from the main game (minecraft's "ride a pig off a cliff" comes to mind)

More themes. Right now, our choices are "white" and "black". The very bare minimum would be adding other colors.

And more profile icons. Its literally a small square png, and Nintendo has hundreds of characters to make icons of. Yet, we only get a few at a time once a blue moon.

I wouldn't mind a patch for the fact that every joycon I buy within the month starts forcing the camera downwards constantly. I've wasted almost $150 for the pleasure of having to stop and hold my right stick forward until the camera relents and finally comes back up so I can see where I'm going in 3D games. I think the first game I played that had achievements was the first Mass Effect, and to get every single one would have required to play through the game like four times. I knew that day that achievements were bullshit.

Also I'm in favor of achievements to be used as statistics tools, because that's useful on many levels to both players and developers.

Not really. The achievements don't really change the game, they don't add content. It's literally just self-imposed challenges. I don't need the game to tell me there's an achievement for beating the game without getting hit or whatever. I've been doing shit like that long before achievements existed. They're worthless to me.
