I wouldn't say he's butthurt since he's done OK for himself, but if you recall that time he mentioned being pegged and Idea Guy by the devs around the office and told to make just one game before telling them what to do, it's likely that plus his shakey relation with MGS fans since MGS2 and Konami since however long left a scar on his ego that only the concealer of more ego can fade.

He has to recall at all times he did what those first guys mockingly dared him to, and then some, to not become overwhelmed by the things he wasn't able to do even after all this time and resource.
It's also probably helped that the stubborn approach of ambitiousness and not shying from going for more was made his "style", even as troublesome as it can be, and what set him over and apart from others.
