I have noticed that Yea Forums loves this game now and it used to hate it. I see threads about this game every day now and a lot of comments saying it's the best Final Fantasy. What happened? I actually love the game myself but 7 years ago everyone just gave this game a hard time while tidus posting

It was never so much hated as it was a point of contention

Yea Forums was always shit and full of nostalgiafags that followed memes and e celebs.

After garbage like XIII and XV came out, FFX is now the new gold standard for gaming

Because it was a good game. Can’t remember anything good from games past 2015, especially from 2012 or later. A simple rpg that had voice acting and not a complete pants on head twist/story. That’s all I’m looking for, plus it not being incomplete or broken up into dlc/mtx.

We need another fall 2001 ps2 game line up.

it's much easier to not be disappointed with it considering all the awful final fantasies we got since and considering the hype it was trying to live up to at the time

Last Mission >> X >> X-2
Mind you, all those are pretty bad, but at least Last Mission was somewhat fun to play.

FFX isn't bad, it was just a dissapointment after VII and IX, and this lifecycle of "indifference -> hated -> loved" is common for dissapointing games. With that said, FFX isn't a bad game.

Nah, x2 is the garbage v hates

It was meme'd so hard everyone convinced themselves it was bad. All most people could say about it for the longest time is that the laughter in that one scene sounds fake, when it was always supposed to sound fake.
Basically, people are sheep

Its not a Sony exclusive anymore do we can like it now

Even if you ignore that laughter, the voice acting is still bad. Tidus, Yuna, Wakka (ffs, I can't believe that guy is Bender from Futurama), Seymour, Rikku. Shit.
Auron and Lulu are decent.

the people who don't like it quieted down since 13 and 15 are much worse

XII came out and people fell for the “active” combat meme. After 2 more awful games in XIII and XV people realized what they missed. The story is really good even if Tidus can be annoying at times. It really was the last true final fantasy before they changed everything in XII.

it's the reddit invasion. that's the only explanation for why this cringe hallway simulator has any fans on here. ffx was the original ffxiii and the beginning of the series' downfall.

>shit minigame only ever released in Japan is fun

Okay retard, at least I can disregard the rest of your opinion

people born after 1990 are the majority now.

Prepare for people defending Overwatch in 5 years
They already defend Skyrim

Attached: 1990 was 30 years ago.jpg (550x535, 31K)

Literally this. NintendoGAF effect, Switch has so little games the owners have to buy any game released on it and say it's great to save face. It's like when Pcfags are really jelous of PS 3xclusives but then

It is also in remaster. In English. At least inform yourself before writing a reply.

No I knew that you sperg. It was only released 15 years later here, if you really think a 15 year old bad minigame is fun you're just being contrarian and lying to yourself.

It was very popular among the general population when it came out, hyped to 11, so it was hated here for the longest time. It seems pasé now but it made a lot of weird decisions at the time like waifu black mage, waterworld tier world, etc. Then you have the cheerful, optimistic lead which wasn't cool at the time, but now all things edge or just cringe so it aged well.

I don't know what the fuck you're talking about, FF 10 is and always will be trash

First, you are a fucking moron.
Second, Last Mission is not a minigame. Do you even know what a minigame is?
And third, as I stated, LM is fun. X and X-2 are not.

You can agree with it, or don't. I don't care. But you didn't know that Last Mission was on remaster until you read my post, and you obviously never played it.

I don't know what the fuck you're talking about
I was born in 96 and most of that same gen are Runescape/Maplestory and WoW players or Weebs / Pokemon retards

Post 2000 are the majority now and they'll be the ones defending overwatch

Yea Forums was already defending Overwatch on launch, Yea Forums has been dead for ages

I played it when it first came out and I was 12. Loved the fuck out of it. I'm pretty sure its just nostalgia fags.

Also the games that follow it aren't nearly as much fun.

11 was WoW wannabe trash.
12 had potential but its gameplay isn't for everyone, and its story isn't as captivating as the other games. I think a complete lack of any kind of romance, or reason for some of the party members to even be there hurts it a lot.
13 is... well I don't need to talk about it, we've all had Lightning shoved down our throat too much as it is. Goddamn waifufags with power man.
14 was pretty bad when it started, seems to have picked up a lot since then.
15 was an unfinished pain in the ass. I feel like its the MGS5 of the series.

>>Yea Forums was already defending Overwatch on launch,
only the porn

okay retard

I love Junpei!

Attached: 5.jpg (516x800, 207K)

Expected ''comeback''.

Because New game bad and when it becomes old game then it's great! It will happen with FF XV and XIII easily in 6 years.

It's old enough that contrarians aren't interested in flaming anymore and haters moved on. Only people that enjoyed the game are talking about it.

>People will defend FF13
I fear for that day to come.

Attached: 48476954_p13_master1200.jpg (1000x1068, 751K)

I can see people defending 15 in time. But 13 is the worst aspects of 10 and 15 put together.

Good. Because XV was a good game

I liked 13, the gameplay was better than most FF games and the graphics were good enough to keep me invested in the pants on head retarded plot

Junpei loves you too and he's got your back bro, always. It's just you and him from now on.

Attached: jun.png (499x349, 222K)

>not a complete pants on head twist/story

>guy travels to an alternate universe
>there's a giant godzilla-like monster
>actually, kid, that's your dad
>and you're both dreams lol

Yeah, a nice traditional story

Attached: 1518146285572.png (599x346, 162K)

It was not a good game in any way, I actually wanted to cry with disappointment as I played it. It left me feeling empty inside when it was over.

In relative terms to other Post-5 FF games its not that crazy

>>guy travels to an alternate universe
Aaaand you're already fucking wrong and didn't pay attention

>>>guy travels to an alternate universe
The reading comprehension of FFX haters.

AH HA HA HA HA HA

>people bitching at one of the few scenes in X that was done correctly

Look FFX has problems. But you chucklefucks haven't even played the game to be able to identify them yourselves. Because the entire point was Yuna explaining how she can go each day knowingly marching to her own death while trying to help Teedus. And since Teedus is completely oblivious to Yuna's plight by this point, he's trying and failing to force himself to cheer up, making the laugh super awkward until both of them realize how absurd and ridiculous this is and they share a genuine laugh 2 minutes later. But I guess actually playing the game and looking at the source material would require effort to criticize making you the exact same as the videogame "journalists" on Kotaku

youtube.com/watch?v=OIh6sXRM_yQ

Why is she such a whore?

Attached: Yuna 88.png (1600x1037, 2.35M)

Attached: 1545532320680.gif (268x325, 1.55M)

As far as I am concerned X-2 is not canon. But even if it was she's still a literal virgin by the end credits of X-2.

You can't play it blind and not love it. Even then people were just parroting memes for ubboats. FFX is a classic

Only a little. Also X-2 is funny. FFX ends with Yuna telling everyone to move on and then all of X-2 is Yuna refusing to move on

>Tidus
>so well written character
>hates his father even though his mother was much worse
I mean, who the fuck ignores her own child when she is with her husband? At Jecht likes like an overgrown kid.
''Cry cry, that's all you can do. I am the best Blitzball player! You will never be like me, kid!'' Who the fuck talks like that? Serious question.

People don't hate Tidus because of that scene. They hate him because he is probably the worst protagonist in the known universe.

X-2 is fan fictiion garbage written by retarded B-team. It was just made while the iron was still hot to make maximum money, they completely fucked up any chance for a real FFX sequel

>At Jecht likes like an overgrown kid.
And Jecht acts like an overrgown kid.
...is what I wrote. WTF? Is this a bug, lol

Japanese people do speak very literally compared to English. Tidus realises that his dad wasn't that bad of a guy and that his mom was a bit overly dependent on him only around 10 hours into the game.

>What happened?

The children who started with X grew up.

>MY CHILDHOOD WAS BETTER THAN YOURS!
>ONLY 80S KIDS KNOW KEK

Attached: yikes.gif (498x498, 1.28M)

So your problem with Teedus is a slight against his mother? Also no one argued that his parents weren't shit. Jecht was hoping to use tough love to make Teedus strong but Teedus got the wrong idea and assumed Jecht was just an asshole. Then Jecht went out to sea, got caught in the storm, landed in mainland Spira, his mother fell into depression and blah blah sad backstory and Teedus heaped more of the blame on Jecht because in his kind everything bad in his life is rooted onto him. Which in his quest to not be like his asshole dad made him just as much of a selfish asshole. Only instead of drinking and punching elephants Teedus just cries.

Here's the thing: even though Teedus needed to grow out of that, and he did, Teedus being selfish was necessary. Because if that selfishness didn't rub off on Yuna who is 100% selfless she would've killed herself as planned and nothing would've changed. It was Yuna deciding she wanted to have her cake an eat it too that caused her group, for the first time, to consider options outside of their religion that demands the status quo and who says out the box thinking is Al Bhed heresy. So that WAS a good decision on Square's part.

Everyone talking about the laughing scene (who watched in english) are too young to remember the disaster of ff7's translation, or the precursor itself in ff6, The Opera scene, yes, your favorite ff game with a funny and smart villain with a nihilistic sense of humour had a scene more sad than the laughing scene, and it wasn't even intentional here.
Meanwhile ffx, instead of having another super sayan villain introduced Yu Yevon, a shell of a broken man, who did everything he could to protect his people and their culture, forcing him to lose all sense of self, finally degenerating in a non sentient ghost for the efforts.
It's been 18 years, and Square has never hit that apex again. 9fags you're not even in the equation, your shitty childish game flopped when it came out, and couldn't even play out iconic old FF's themes like the Four Beast, even though it started as a way to commemorate FFs, soulless trash.

No, it fucking won't
X is a genuinely good game, that's why it's well liked
Meanwhile shit like VIII is still considered to be irredeemable garbage despite being even older

Attached: Yuna 69.jpg (800x800, 71K)

the game is shit but it doesnt mean its bad

I think this is the mission I missed for 100%

explain

This or XII?

Putting aside the fact that even the first line of your greentext is wrong, any story can be made to sound ridiculous when you shorten it

>midget gives magic ring to nephew
>ring turns out to have a demon's soul in it
>midget nephew has to walk to a volcano with his gardener
>gets finger bitten off by a methhead, develops PTSD, takes a pleasure cruise forever

Attached: 1556236797973.gif (517x328, 1.69M)

I don't know, I first played it when I was 10 and absolutely loved it like a lot of other people did.

Never really saw anyone bashing the game until recently.
You're all shit.

I still don't get it Yea Forums, why does this garbage gets a pass while XIII is not even worth shitposting anymore? they are both walking corridor simulators.

>Wakka (ffs, I can't believe that guy is Bender from Futurama),
WHAT

suck it, hater

FFX is based

>At Jecht likes like an overgrown kid.
Have you ever tried to have a conversation with a professional sportsman? They're all developmentally stunted to a mental age of about 15, even the 30+ year-old ones

has to be b8, how can you not know about dimaggio? If you ever played VTMB he's Smiling Jack too

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_DiMaggio

If the shittiest FF game is the last good FF you got then yeah it's good since it was the last FF game we ever got. Fuck Square

just kys user do us a favor

Okay wow, I never knew he also done the VA for Kimahri

Because even if you didn't like it X had actual content. In X when you approached a city you could be solving a puzzle, playing water polo, riding chocobos, having a summoner's duel, finding hidden treasure, learning a language that led to other treasure. But because of XIII's narrative you're constantly on the run. So you can't do anything other than run down the corridor because... well you're on the run. This also means that you can't actually enjoy the places that you go to. Besaid is relaxed because it's a backwater town and you have no idea what's going on. Kilika is similar but a bit more somber. Luca is super festive. Djose is depressing. But XIII only has one speed so you can't talk to anybody and the only information you get are from a literal encyclopedia. Add to the fact that you cannot go backwards and there's a reason why XIII is called a hallway simulator while X still has good will towards it

Don't forget:

>yu yevon has incredible magical power, allowing him to permanently will into existence an animaginary world that maintains the consciousness of billions of people, as well as create Sin, a being so powerful that it brought low every society and reduced the world to a permanent post-apocalyptic state
>instead of simply using his incredible magical power to stop bevelle, which threatened to destroy zanarkand, he decides to use his power to create said dream world for no apparent reason
>his magical power is so sophisticated that he can craft a dream world that is an accurate facsimile of the real world and its billions of people, yet he was stupid enough to let sin destroy zanarkand because he instructed it to destroy all machina-using societies and he didn't think to exclude zanarkand itself.

Also:

>Yuna gets kidnapped not once, not twice, not thrice, but at least four different times, despite having the ability to summon powerful Aeons which could have easily defeated her kidnappers
>constant asspulls like Sin teleporting the party to the desert...somehow
>the party defeat Seymour half a dozen times, yet never finishes him by doing the sending ritual, leaving him to return and continue being a threat over and over again
>incredibly stilted and unnatural sounding dialogue and voice acting

FFX's 'story' is less of a story and more of a series of incredibly lazy plot contrivances

Attached: tidus-01.jpg (441x302, 24K)

Please see

Attached: wtf.jpg (116x125, 2K)

As an example let us compare 2 similar Final Fantasy games with vastly different initial receptions
FF10 is essentially one long hallway full of enemies and bossfights, with a leveling grid
FF13 is essentially one long hallway full of enemies and bossfights, with a leveling grid
FF10 has an interesting story and an interesting battling and leveling system
FF13 has a bland and confusing story with a boring automatic battling system and a dumbed down leveling system that arbitrarily locks you into lower tiers based on story progression

Both games have a similar skeleton but their execution is amazingly different

Most haters like regurgitating someone else's opinion. In FFX's case it's Spoony who is a well known idiot.

Attached: Final-Fantasy-X-Review-Part-4.jpg (720x405, 82K)

Say what you want, but that had a good ending.

youtube.com/watch?v=rBtzudk40pE

How does that apply to my post? I didn't misrepresent FFX story the way that post misrepresents LOTR's story, I listed everything in detail and explained why it's badly written.

Also:

>thinking FFX's trainweck of a story is even worthy of being mntiond in the same breath as Tolkien's work

Attached: 1555846942979.jpg (625x626, 78K)

>11 was WoW wannabe trash.
"I have never played 11."

People are already trying to say it's better than XV.

XV's gameplay is literally hold X to win

user's point about Avengers is that the story sounds silly.
user's point about X is the story is terribly written.

And jake the dog

If that's all the plot contrivances you could find in a JRPG then it must be one of the best ones ever written.

Because barring the Yuna example, which is admittedly stupid, you're doing the same shit. Whatever the circumstances of the war were Aeon's and Zanarkand's machina were not working. Bevelle had them horrifically outmatched. Which is believable considering Al Bhed chucklefuck Brother was running around in a tank that can turn off summoning. Also X makes it clear that Yu Yevon stopped being rational the moment he started summoning Dream Zanarkand and Sin. The only orders Sin had was "destroy machina" and "protect Dream Zanarkand." So it did, original Zanarkand was no longer a priority since it and everyone in it were dead. Fayth. Whatever. Sin teleported the gang to Bikanel because Sin is controlled by Jecht. That's the cornerstone of how Sin was defeated at all because Sin could be influenced by whoever was used to make it even if their mind would eventually break from the stress just like Yevon.

XIII isn't much better, has worse writing, and is far more self-indulgent.

It's a moronic circle jerk with nothing of value versus a halfbaked, mediocre mess. They're both shit, but one is mercifully shorter in terms of core content and less up its own ass. I can stomach bumrushing XV's campaign. I can't stand playing though XIII's.

>allowing him to permanently will into existence an animaginary world that maintains the consciousness of billions of people
No, just the city of Zanarkand. And it's not permanent, nor is YY the source of the dream. It's the combined power of all the fayth of their society maintaining the dream.
>instead of simply using his incredible magical power to stop bevelle
Literally the point of Sin, dude.
>create said dream world for no apparent reason
Preservation of your civilization is a very good reason. If any history has been worth writing down, surely a living version of the society is even better.
>Yuna gets kidnapped not once, not twice, not thrice, but at least four different times,
Convenient how you've left out the fact that she was willingly kidnapped to get close to Seymour to kill him
>despite having the ability to summon powerful Aeons which could have easily defeated her kidnappers
And yet those Aeons can't beat the bosses alone. Gameplay disproves you. Putting aside the fact that she's taken by surprise and a summon requires a lengthy ritual. It's like saying a politician can't be assassinated because the army can defeat the assassin.
>the party defeat Seymour half a dozen times, yet never finishes him by doing the sending ritual, leaving him to return and continue being a threat over and over again
Justified in each instance by the situation. And it isn't half a dozen.

Its the concussions and the lack of oxygen. Thats how I interpreted Tidus emotional developement

>mental gymnastics

Attached: 1554281365522.jpg (782x520, 130K)

XIII has a story. XV does not.

>Deflecting with whataboutisms.
Nice.
There's nothing wrong with admitting X's writing is shit outside of Tidus, just like there's nothing wrong with admitting only disc 1 of IX is finished and Vivi would have been a superior protagonist given the group and themes.

Attached: Vivi.png (793x897, 631K)

>Justified in each instance by the situation.

>the characters can beat up monsters the size of skyscrapers
>they are powerless against two guards
Yeah, great justification

Attached: 1552346069272.png (403x448, 53K)

I still hate it. IT's a fucking terrible game and an abomination for Final Fantasy.

Its not that good.
People have tons of nostalgia towards it so of course you'll find people praising it blindly.

>XIII has a story. XV does not.
How the fuck can you say this when they make the exact same mistakes in terms of basic story structure?
Both games have a fleshed out background but forgot to write an actual narrative, instead creating a situation where the heroes and villains want the same thing to happen for different reasons and the journey is, overall, pointless. The difference is that 13 is loud and stupid throughout, droning on about the same basic ideas for hours at a time and hiding the shallowness with pretension, while 15 tries to mask it with poor attempts at character study and development.

>killing monks of their own religion who think they're defending their leader is something Yuna or anyone in the party would do
Yeah, I'm SURE killing them was the issue.

They literally do this to the Guado and Am Bhed multiple times.

The group beats down guards, priests, thieves, the disenfranchised, etc whenever it's narratively convenient.

All I care about is people finally appreciating 12 after all these years.

People are finally realising the laugh scene was a comedy scene in context and meant to sound bad, so they cant just spam it as a way to write off the whole game without looking retarded

At no point in the story do they kill innocents. Those 3 who pulled Seymour out had no idea what he did and were not complicit in his murder plot.

Who said anything about killing? Just restrain them or cast a Sleep sell of whatever.

The fact that you fight Seymour like a billion times, yet each time Yuna never sends him, is just absurd. Any normal person would take steps to prevent Seymour from being a future threat. Some level of contrivance is unavoidable in fiction, but not these absurd levels. And the Seymour thing is just one example. Every aspect of FFX's story suffers from it. It's impossible to take the story seriously because of it.

Yeah I'm sure all those Al Bhed in machines that fucking explode who we never see again were totally safe. The crew was really concerned about their lives, I'm sure.

Or that 8 wasn't terribly good at presenting its ideas.
Or that 7 rehashed a ton from 6 and Square's creative directors have clearly misunderstood what the writers were going for in places.
Or that 6 is a bit of a mess due to the sheer size of the cast.
It that Kitase's humor in 5 is mostly garbage.
Or that 4's writing is somehow more botch basic than 2's.
Or that 3 makes 4 look like high art.
Or that 2 was far too reliant on cheap deaths.
Or that 1's paradox is poorly conceived and executed.

Every FF has writing problems. Anyone who denies it is a retard.

>instead of "it was all a dream" it's "I was the dream along"
Into the trash it goes.jpg

Watch out he's gonna resort to Tactics or Suikoden like a pseud.

Post more Rikku you fucking faggots

Attached: 13718041.jpg (850x1201, 282K)

Why would I do that when user's right? We should be accepting of the fact that all these games have problems.

x-2 is about moving on you retard.

>Move on by wishing dead bf back to life.
X-2 is stupid.

5>10>6>7>9>8>the rest

Attached: 24.jpg (530x492, 39K)

I like this image

yeah, only the default ending is any good, but can't deny that all of x-2 is about moving on.

>it's about moving on
>the catalyst of the story is Yuna finding a recording of her dead boyfriend
>all the aeons are back even though their Fayth have been Sent and shouldn't be able to dream anymore
>true ending is Yuna being reunited with the human Aeon that shouldn't exist made by the Fayth who shouldn't be able to summon anymore

Kind of makes you wonder why Measter Mika was freaking out upon yunalesca's death. Seeing as how he only brought her to the farplane who's entrance is inside guadosalam. If anything killing yunalesca made the pilgrimage is easier since now you don't have to climb a mountain to get to her. Or they should have stuck to their guns and let Tidus stay dead

You're not wrong.
I'm just saying, X-2 is fucking stupid in a lot of ways.

The dumb zoomers grew up. FFX was the end of the golden age. It's one of the worst in the series.

I'd rather replay 13 than 10.

It's still an ff game, of course it's silly and kinda bad, but as far as ff goes it has an stronger theme and characters than most of the other games and just has some shitty endings.

There is so much absurdity in that game that I have to like it. The Civil War plot was a good idea because on the one hand I can see why people might want to bury their horrific past as fast as possible. But at the same time there's a large number of people who benefited from the old ways and won't quietly let those ways die. But then you solve the thing by having a teenager throw a concert in hot pants. In the middle of a wasteland that's always raining too. And there's only one song. A lot of those people travelled half a planet for that concert you think they'd get even angrier.

FFX really wasnt a long hallway like 13 literally was. FFX had downtime and town exploration, also FFX had the traditional turn based battle system and let you control more than one character, the soundtrack was the last one that uematsu worked on also. False equivalency, even if you hate X I should still think most of you would appreciate these things about it more than XIII.

Young Yea Forums posters don't know, let alone remember, that FFX was the

first

of Sony's big flagship series that got

voice acting

.

Are we pretending most final fantasy's don't do stupid story shit like this?

why

do you feel the need to

type like this

Attached: 1380981822967.jpg (328x399, 43K)

I've got another story that sounds ridiculous when you shorten it

>a paleontologist, his girlfriend, a lawyer and some kids are brought to an island with amazing dinosaurs on it
>the dinosaurs escape and start killing everyone on the island
>the survivors need to escape, encountering lots of dinosaurs along the way
>they escape

What an awful story, amirite

>Why would I do that when user's right?
Because you must have some baseline of what's a good JRPG plot if you're gonna shit on a specific one you fucking pseud.

World was pretty shitty though

X is "ok"
X-2 is god tier because the girls are cute.

Always loved it, but games become better in retrospect when the sequels are worse.

2007 was a big wave of aids, I was a part of it.

People that hadn’t even started elementary school when this game released can post here now.

if only I knew how easy the bossfight was I wouldn't have spent hours upon hours maxing out some characters stats like a retard

Completely generational. Give it a few more years this board will rememeber FF13 fondly from their pre teen years

A prequel would be pretty awesome.

Yea Forums was a christian board until X resonated strongly with daemon atheists.

That's what I mean about execution, 10 was VERY linear, but it was more interesting, had a more cohesive plot, better battles, better progression, the music was great, it understood to let the player explore and interact with NPCs between monster hallways. I didn't notice FF10 was a technically a hallway simulator for almost a decade, that lone speaks volumes about its quality.

Unrelated, but important, fuck you FF13 for having a fantastic battle theme but having the drop in it occur after the average player finishes a battle. Every battle is me fighting trash mobs to the tune of violin build up with no pay off.

I just got the remaster I am excited to play it. I have never played it before.
