I'd did core 2k before I realized how much time it was wasting and I switched to a textbook and reading. Because of this, I found Kanji decks that organize by grade/jlpt levels that be more useful.

core 2k. but don't use it as your only source of japanese learning. learn some grammar so you can pick apart the sentences that come up in anki.

write the kanji you're learning on sticky notes and put them all over your house. Look at them for 2-3 seconds whenever you walk past them and eventually you'll have no trouble remembering them.

Honestly if you're not a poor fag, get Minna No Nihongo and just work through it. You can get into N3 in 8 months to a year based on pace. Once you hit that, a ton opens up to you.

Start with hiragana and katakana. it will take at most a week. then you do tae kim for grammar and either RTK by heisig or just vocab for kanji. RTK if you want to write by hand, vocab (core 2k etc.) if youi only want to read. You need to download anki either way. It's a flashcard program.
