Maybe not but that whole " deserve " thing is tiresome. Smash has enough characters as it is and everything that needs to be in it is already in. The only people asking for more are refugees desperately trying to have their series be relevant and pretend like they're not as much of a bomb to the series than the syrian next door coming to Europe.
At least it's a Plant with a unique playstyle & sets of moves: Stationary zoning moves & things of the kind make Plant interesting. Quite frankly, as of now, I think Plant could use some buffs, but aside from that, okay character.

smash doesnt have joke characters. dan from SF is a joke character in that he has intentionally worse versions of good moves that better characters have and is used as a fall guy/comic relief in the story and lore. G&W, WFT and the plant have none of those things

Mr. Game & Watch, ROB, and Wii Fit Trainer are all multi-faceted. They all represent elements of Nintendo's history that weren't present in Smash before while also being off-the-wall surprise picks.
Piranha Plant doesn't have that going for it. It's just there for the surprise, and now that that's worn off it's got nothing left.

The plant is all right honestly. Although, we should have gotten another retro fighter like Mach Rider, Sable Prince, Balloon Fighter, or Takamaru. PP is a well known Mario enemy so there's nothing for people to really learn about with him.
