The people who typically complain about things like this are ugly anyway. They’re really just salty that they’re not “perfect” like the fictional characters they see everywhere in media. They’re not entirely wrong, but only when it’s taken to an extreme where literally every character is perfect and attractive. This is why the term “Hollywood Ugly” exists, where someone less attractive than a 10/10 is considered the ugly character even though they’re just average-8/10.

I don’t know I never played The Last of Us. The best example I can think of are Chloe and Max from Life is Strange who are neither hideously ugly but not insanely attractive either. That type of look makes sense to me in media because no one wants to look at an eyesore of a human, if the goal is for them to be “normal” looking.
