I've played pretty much all of them, except for the various re-released of the battle mode, and in my opinion, it goes
Generations > 64 TSA > Jetters > Heroes > 64 > Super 1 - 5 (each Super one is better than the last) > R > DS > the rest.

I just remember the wii release being fairly popular, but they died pretty early into the decade and were probably in decline after the sixth gen. There were still plenty of games released from after Act Zero, but they were mainly portable and downloadable titles. Megaman kinda fell off into the 7th gen too, but nowhere near as hard as Bomberman.

You only have them for the first 2 levels. 80% of the game gives you better bombs, and the cross bombs aren't even that bad since it's not always full 3D. It goes top-down or isometric at times.
Also, the enemy bombers were KINO as fuck. I remember this game and Xenogears got me into Gnosticism at the time.

Jetters was good, but it was like MP2 to Generations MP1. Good, but overshadowed by a classic.

Bomberman origins are bizarre but I like the alien side because it makes more sense in the rest of the games, seriously in most of the God tier games you travel to different planets and fight different species of enemies so I like this version

It's a strange case but Bomberman's current 'robot' design was originally used by the enemies in Hudson's NES port of Lode Runner. When making the NES Bomberman game they decided to make the playable character's design the same as the robot enemies from Lode Runner because... who knows. And thus the two games became linked.

I think bomberman hero kind of sucks. It's got awful sound design, and it's one of the ugliest platformers on the system. Enemy design specifically is just plain ugly and lazy feeling.
I think bomberman tournament is the secret gem.

Second Attack. Not only is the single player not shit but you can play the multiplayer with bots and the game has a sort of achievement system similar to Perfect Dark where you unlock more stuff for said multiplayer by winning matches.

I recently played all the early Bomberman games for the first time: the Turbografx (PC Engine) games, the NES & SNES (Super Famicom) games, and the Saturn game. I enjoyed simple arcade style of these games and their final bosses were quite challenging. But when I got to the 64 games I lost interest. To me, the 64 game lacked the simple arcade-like appeal of the original Bomberman games. I'll give it another try later. Haven't played anything in the Bomberman series after that yet.
Super Bomberman used to be my favorite, but my new favorite is the Turbografx Bomberman games, especially Bomberman '94 (which was ported as "Mega Bomberman" on Sega Genesis).

That's actually how a lot Bomberman fans felt when Bomberman first jumped to 3D back then for those exact reasons. Don't expect a simple and sweet arcade run, expect a more complicated adventure instead from those games. They're really worth your time if you want to really get into the series.
