Its rounder, fluffier design is just more endearing overall. The reason the normal Raichu never had much widespread appeal, aside from Pikachu's sheer popularity, was because it just wasn't considered to be as cute, a trait that even Game Freak acknowledged recently.

But og Raichu is still popular. Not as popular as Pikachu but still popular. Still gets merch made for it and everything and placed pretty well in that favorites poll from a few years ago. Anyway, I actually hate the rounder look that Alola Raichu has. I love the white tipped paws and other design parts like his pretty eyes and sitting on the tail but I hate the rounded look. It looks so much better to me with more definition to the body like in I love it there almost as much as original Raichu.
