Yes believe it or not, a sandbox game does actually have sandbox gameplay. There's still quests, but they're secondary and any experienced player pretty much just ignores most of them.

Viking Conquest DLC has a storyline mode if that's your thing though.

But why would you ever play vanilla warband? The achievements didn't get added until a few years after release, when there were a ton of mods out.
