Because game devs used to be just software designers and programmers. Now those people work at Google because the game industry is a meat grinder.

Because it's nice to know that the devs enjoyed their work. It can take the enjoyment out of a game if you know that the people who made it were miserable.

it was before the time where every tom, dick and harry had internet connection on their microwaves, to instantly make 10,000,000 shitposts and form movements to destroy a project the second any info about a project surfaced on any medium. So I guess the profession would have been more relaxed.

It was just a bunch of nerds getting together to make something they liked, not some giant corporation hiring to random overeducated robots to make asembly line products

Because generally they were small teams of passionate individuals, everybody making do, everybody has a function that makes a tangible impact on the game daily.
All of them are doing several jobs to the best of their ability, coming in weekends, sitting in board rooms with the big players, flying by the seat of their pants pretending they're bigger shots than they are, because if they can pull it off then FUCK working at a bank.

Every game of any real value was made by a tiny team of skilled fucking nerds.
