It makes more sense to me and also explains why Rantaro had to sacrifice himself and become the Ultimate Survivor by participating in another killing game; it happened before. As for why they decide to reject hope at the end, I would guess it's because of Keebo's involvement, making hope so obviously a fake happy ending rather than the only viable option, as this was the audience's first time participating and so it would be more obvious that hope is just another trick. Tsumugi's not a perfect writer, after all.

Tsumugi rewrote the whole season after the nail painting event with Rantaro and Kaede. Kaede was supposed to be the true protag, and Tsumugi was planning on pulling the 'best friend was a backstabbing mastermind the whole time' thing but the event didn't go as planned.

Not with a reasonable sized team, pretty much all the hard work is done already. designs, script, voice work, school hallways and trial room are already modeled pretty much. All they need to do is make 3d models and animations of the characters.

Kaito just assumed Kokichi was tricking Shuichi, and was trying to protect him. He just couldn't believe that the dude who did nothing but lie the entire game was telling the truth this time. And then he got butthurt about being wrong, but patched things up with Shuichi after like, a day.
