Why is mario party so soulless now?
Why is mario party so soulless now?

As we grow older we awaken from our blissful slumber and become jaded husks of the soulful children we once were.
I haven't played it, but judging by your picture it's the bloom.
They keep trying to reduce the ability to fuck other players over.
nintendo just doesn't care
Pretty much this.
>
The old games are still good though, the real problem is that Nintendo forgot what made Mario Party fun in the first place.
Here is what Mario Party needs
>Lots of boards in a variety of sizes with central gimmicks that add to the play rather than dominate it
>Fuckloads of minigames with many returning from previous games
>SOUL in the form of actual visual effort and ambition, lets bring back costumes for characters based on maps and shit like that
>Online multiplayer with your friends
>a handful of extra modes similar to the battle maps in MP3 and the minigames on the "overworld menu" in the first two
Bam, instant classic. Its literally all anyone wants.
They don't have to shake up the formula of Mario Party this much, everyone liked it the way it was and doesn't like it the way it is now.
>now
I was under the impression it stopped being good when it left the N64.
It was always soulless. Mario Party has always been shit.
This is basically how everyone feels.
The gamecube ones weren't bad, but I remember finding them much less fun and just wanting to go back to MP2 or 3
this
fucking normalfags, I swear
I used to enjoy playing these games with my friends when I was around 10 years old. We had a blast. Tons of belly laughs to go around. As I got older I would play mario party games with my little sister, mostly for her to have fun. Seeing her have fun was my enjoyment. I cant imagine playing these games as a man and actually having fun, unless youre playing with your girlfriend or a friends group while having drinks.
nah.
t.had no friends as a kid
Playing Mario Party 1-3 with my family and friends was some of the most fun I've ever had. It was one of the few games that was so universally accessible while still being fun that even aunts and uncles wanted to get in on it and we'd have the whole family sitting around the TV during holidays taking turns playing short games while everyone else cheers on and talks shit.
Change in developers. The old Mario Party games were made by Hudson Soft and the new ones are made by NDcube.
It was never good. The N64 generation is fueled on pure childish nostalgia for garbage games.
Oh wow. I see what you mean. The modern version does look lifeless and drab. But then again, whomps are dram and lifeless. Are the other worlds as shitty as this one?
Modern UI. There's no personality.
Unironically because they turned down the randomness. It is by it's nature a chance game, if everyone has a chance of wins means no one is having fun.
there are a lot of reasons super mario party is soulless but this is the biggest one
shit looks like wii sports, not a fucking mario game
>or a friends group while having drinks.
That's all videogames really are for me now that I'm nearing 30. I can't really bring myself to stick with a singleplayer game anymore. I still enjoy checking them out, but its really hard for me to keep playing a game once I feel like I've seen all the mechanics it has to offer.
Goofy multiplayer games like Mario Party or co-op shit on the other hand, thats just a good excuse for me and my friends to get together a few times a week, play a few rounds, shoot the shit and catch up.
The older I get the more I look at games in the same way I imagine my Dad and Grandfather look at things like playing darts or poker or whatever. Its less about the game and more about the time spent with friends.
Unironically this. The generic UI screams laziness.
Mario Party turned into shit when they stopped making OC's for the games
Remember Koopa Kid? Tumble? Millenium Star? The Sun and Moon guys from Mario Party 6?
ACTUAL ONLINE WHEN!?
Emulating N64 AND GCN should not be the solution
Why are the boards so tiny?
What the fuck. Why are they so small?
Mario Party 5 was actually good and then the series died. 4 was crap though
2 is kind of bad in a way that the maps heavily rely on keys and you only hold one item
>Mario Party 5 was actually good
I was able to tear off the nostalgia goggles and you can too
Item capsules were one of the greatest changes to the game.
you know i actually had a lot of fun on these 4 boards with my friends and the minigames are very good, but there's been 0 support since the game dropped and i expected dlc to come out like they've done for mario tennis but nope
Capsules were so poorly handled that even MP1's lack of items altogether was superior, it wasn't until MP6 that they were turned into something worthwhile
What's the best 4-7 mario party game and which is its best board? Gonna play a single mario party round and I don't wanna pick shit
The same comparison could be done between old and new Mario platformers. Their artstyle is just totally dead and soft now
6, Clockwork Castle (E. Gadd's Garage if you don't have it unlocked)
Capsules were a great idea but they slowed down the game so fucking much.
I got you an indie bestseller just waiting to be made:
>Mario Party knockoff
>Modding tools let you play as any kinda character, like VR Chat, or MUGEN, but everyone has identical stats
>During the board phase, everyone moves at the once in real time so there's less downtime
>The minigames are all action-y. Instead of weird gimmicky mashing shit, every game uses the same core platforming controls and objectives are varied stuff like "Race to the end of this level but the floor is lava!" and "Survive this tornado!"
>but there's still variety with stuff like vehicles, maybe some weapons, and enemy types. lots of different objectives
>Physics engine which minigames take full use of
>Honestly kind of a cross between CSS/Gmod/Roblox minigame maps but with the board too.
>Each board and minigame can scale up to fit 100 players
>Obligatory battle royale mode: Lose 3 minigames and you're out!
I wouldn't be surprised if people in Second Life tried doing this
>Nintendo forgot
Hudson were the devs of the earlier titles and now they're gone.
Despite there being a few good ones, Mario Party games have always been poorly made cash grabs.
It's not just SMP, this is an issue I've had with a number of Nintendo games as of late. A lot of the interface and UI of these games just feels so bland. Especially the fonts and shit chosen, it's just safe generic blocky/chunky sans serif garbage.
What guts me is that, at least in SMO and BotW, there ARE nuggets of thoughtful and creative interface design but they go woefully underused. SMO's UI creativity was limited to the maps being travel brochures, and in BotW most of the menus are boring and clinical as hell yet the Sheikah Slate stuff gets the kind of stone-like menu aesthetic that you'd expect from the regular menus in other 3D Zelda games.
super mario party is pretty good, seems like they should have released a lot more support in patches after its release though
the river and rhythm modes are fun when youre drinking with friends
the whomp ruins are a really boring map but i like the fruit islands and the tower
because they have made like a thousand of them and nobody cares anymore so they just have the c team shit one out and hope a few people buy out for their kids
>Super Mario Party
>Souless
It's low key great. Be honest, how many of you have actually played it with actual friends and didn't just decide you were going to dislike it based on the number of boards or incessant "MUH ONLINE" nagging? I haven't even gotten into the extra modes yet and I really enjoy it.
>a thousand
There are less than twenty.
autism
I liked the look of Odyssey but yeah 2D mario is a lost cause now.
This. Only dumb zoomers think old Mario Party was any good.
The standard dice block is 1 - 6.
Low quality post.
I played it with friends multiple times and while we had a good time, SMP is the most souless MP to date for reasons already explained ITT
Everyone agrees nu-2D Mario games are soulless
Probably because most dice in the game won't roll beyond 6. All other MP's had dice that got up to 10.
There was someone here a few months back who posted that he tracked the percentage of distance covered on the board for both SMP and the other MP's. Both SMP and the other MP's have about the same percentage of distance on the board covered with dice rolls. This is because while the boards in SMP are smaller, you can also travel less spaces because most of the dice usually go from 1 to 6 instead of 1 to 10.
.
Hate it all you want, but Mario Party 3 is the last ever game where Yoshi had this voice
youtube.com
He sounds retarded now
The new one is fun, but they need to patch in more boards and it really needs more minigames for the actual party mode.
Yes it says it has 80+ minigames, but half of them aren't even playable in the normal mode and the other half is cut off because its a 2vs2 or a 1vs3 game.
That leaves you with 20 games you play over and over and over and over again
I always loved that voice
Did they rub two tires together to make it or what?
I played Mario Party 2 recently with my literal zoomer younger sister and brother and they had a lot of fun.
The game is much faster and a lot harder than the newer ones.
Rushed games to fill an empty release schedule.
Looks like a Unity mod
lack of online has killed any interest i have in the series. there is literally zero reason for these games to not have full online support.
The only unambiguously goof Mario Party game Is DS fight me.
None of that has anything to do with soul, you retard.
Any Mario Party after 2 was godawful and this one is so much better than those ones.
Mario Party 8 suffers from this, the UI is the most soulless thing in existence.
>has always been shit.
None of that has anything to do with soul, you retard.
Everything Nintendo post-Mario Galaxy (including that game) feels completely lifeless to me. Playing a lot of the first party Wii U titles just felt like I was going through the motions. Nothing inspired me like the Gamecube era.
The game is a good remix of the mario party formula it just needs more boards but the game didn't sell enough to justify making the dlc
t. Guy who has bought literally every mario party
>Modding tools let you play as any kinda character, like VR Chat, or MUGEN
sounds like a great way to get sued by the greedy cunts at nintendo as soon as someone mods one of their characters in.
Played with friends a couple times and we all just fall back on 2 now. I'd keep it but the mini games are so boring and I can't play it in handheld mode.
Did anyone mod Nintendo characters into VR Chat?
Its fun with 3 or 4 people, but the boredome sets in due to there not being any minigames
Is that Best of Mario Party game on 3DS any good?
That's not how copyright law works, friend.
>playing a game that takes over an hour for the shortest game over the internet
You would just be playing with bots by the time the game got to turn 6 anyways whether it be because of internet issues or people having to do life
Because it's made to be a relatively safe entry to the franchise that doesn't try to do or add anything new to it, at least in terms of aesthetics.
Couch multiplayer is the only proper way to play a game like this.
I did and even though I wouldn't consider it a bad game it's still as bland as it can get, it has some good ideas here and there but it needs a lot of content and fixing balancing issues.
I liked the atmosphere of 3D World, their handheld stuff definitely suffered the most.
We all have to admit, this is a step in the right direction after the crap that Mario Party 9, 10, Island Tour, Star Rush and the Top 100 brought upon the series. Super Mario Party 2 should the the triumphant comeback (... I hope.)
Just made this
The minigames in SMP are surprisingly good, a shame the boards themselves aren't that interesting to play around.
Also the game are poorly balanced, whoever gets more companions wins the game, even more if you play on 2v2. You can't compete with someone who can move twice as much as you, the game reaches a point where you just do coinflips to see if you have an odd or pair number to fall on whatever you wanted to go.
My only complaint with SMP is the lack of boards.
I don't even mind how small they are, makes things hectic.
Whoever thought shipping it with only four boards should be fired.
My friend brought his switch over and forced us to play mario party. Suffice to say we all got bored by turn 10 and were dying to turn it off. Too much motion control minigames were you have to wave your arms around like a damn retard.
God I can only hope. 4 shitty square boards just don't do it for me, if they had 6 boards and they were bigger and less square I would've bought that shit in an instant.
>playing mp2 with friend
>having shitloads of fun, the maps are fun, the minigames are good and it's constantly tense
>ragequits all abound
>play mp10 afterwards, bowser party
>only 3 boards available
>it's the most unbalanced shit ever, impossible to lose as bowser because you get to reroll if you get unlucky
>the touch screen treasure chest drawing is gimmicky useless bs
>there are like 5 bowser minigames and none of them are fun
Yay.
>online multiplayer
Holy fuck I can't believe they still haven't done this.
I mean I can understand that they probably want to keep the spirit of couch games alive, but the spirit is simply dead. No one goes over each other's houses anymore for video games. I played some of the older Mario Party games over netplay/emulator and holy shit it's still incredibly fun. We were on mics though so that sure helped.
It's too fair, having someone lamp away your star, steal it in chance time, then duel you for enough coins to have boo to steal it but for him to be repelled by gas and then throwing a 2v2 game because you teamed up with first place isn't a thing
god MP9 pissed me off, it was so blatant with the rigged rolls
>with my friends
anything with friends is fun even assfaggots
page 10 bump
This, it's completely devoid of any personality much like the game itself. This also applies to other modern Nintendo games but it's the worst in Mario Party's case.
MP4 may have had shitty boards but the minigame selection is the best in the series.
Didn't sell enough? It's the best selling mario party ever made......
