If you're actually going to play Yume Nikki, it's best to kind of immerse yourself in it. I feel like the experience was very much enhanced by playing it at night when everything was super quiet. It can get a little spooky, but nothing else has been able to evoke that same atmosphere IMO.

One punch man is a parody of your typical hero anime. It has your typical clichéd heroes and villains, then the dynamic of Saitama completely destroys it since he's like a demigod.

There's nothing wrong with OPM. Overlord on the other hand is an incredibly shallow power fantasy that spends most of its first season jerking off to how strong the protagonist is after dropping him into a world designed for him to be the strongest in without any opposition. Its idea of world building is showing us its generic adventurer's guild. His only companions are former NPCs who are literally programmed to like him which is really sad when you think about it.

I did an "anime book club" with a friend back in July completely on a spur of the moment where we would watch two episodes a day and then talk about it. I had suggested Lain because I wanted to watch it for a while, but I had no idea it was the 20th anniversary that month.
The show ended up blowing me away, and I ended up writing a ton of notes about what I thought was going on and making connections and interpretations, and I went on a bender for at least a week straight of doing as much research as I could - learning about everyone who worked on it, reading Omnipresence in the Wired, finding Konaka's personal site and his 20th anniversary blog and google translating it and any other jap site I could find with interviews or info about Lain, shit like that. When I accidentally lost all those pages I was doing research in I was pissed for at least a couple days.
The show affected me really deeply, and I get weird chills in my heart every time I see stuff about it. I want to watch it again so badly, but I keep stopping myself from diving back in, and I don't know why. I think I'm worried I'll just get super obsessive about it again, or maybe I've put it too high on a pedestal. But goddamn was that an incredible experience. (I have the game and script for it too, but I haven't chosen to start it yet either, for similar reasons.)

Easiest braindead way is to make two images, one with the characters eyes facing forward, and the other with the eyes looking at the viewer. Then in some generic gif creator you make 29 frames or so of the gif be the first image and the last frame be the one looking at you.
